It is easy for you to say this because of how much man has achieved in development. When you need fire, why don't your brain think of rubbing stones together like our forefathers did? You easily grab some matches or lighter or something electrical because they have been created. Same with religion; that primal drive already has a platform in existence already.
"Rubbing stones together like our forefathers did" is the equivalent of not learning anything since one's forefathers. Even one's forefathers would call one stupid for ignoring everything one has learnt since then. You might as well ask me to communicate with drums instead of using modern technology.

Religion is a platform for learning and advancement, and not just doing what one's forefathers did. Believing what one's forefathers believed, believing at all, instead of learning and understanding, is just plain dumb. Some might like being that way, but I think that would be against God's command that one "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground", and be blessed. It would also be a waste of Christ who's entire existence and teachings was to reduce ignorance and stupidity and live.

There is a reason we benefit from standing on the shoulders of our forefathers.

I have not seen a straight forward answer so far... If the saviour of the world concept was Brought to Nigeria by the igbos.. Will Yoruba believe the story and worship him as God, the binis too, Ijaw.... Etc, will our African brothers worship him....?..
The answer is yes, if what the Igbos bring to the Yorubas is seen to be superior to what the Yorubas already have.

Only stupid ignorant people would cling on to what is inferior. And no, I'm not saying what Yorubas have is inferior, just that those who brought us the religion you are so against were so much more superior in their propagating methods - deceit, guns, books, preachers, none of which we they brought these things to had and so were not able to resist them.

If Egypt had been so smart in propagating their knowledge, Osiris would likely be our god today and Horus would have shown us how to live eternally on earth perhaps. The smart nations know this. We were once British, but are now more America inclined with China hoping to Chinarise us while we refuse to Igborise or Yorubanise ourselves.

I don't need to hear about it... I don't need a book to tell me I have to respect my parents or elders.. It comes naturally..
In my village we don't even kill anybody no matter how grevious the crime is.. We banish or send to the evil forest.. So if Jesus was from my part of town.. He would have lived to a ripe old age..
Jesus, and the Bible, is not only about 'do not kill'. I've repeatedly said it is responsible for you knowing about a lot of the things you say here, and without it you would not even know about the Torah or be able to read even. Or do you not understand that the Bible is a collection of books, like a library for you to read and question and understand?

Please know that I am in complete agreement with you if your rant is against believing. But to not read it all? I doubt you'd be as intelligent as you are or know half the stuff your research has enabled you to understand if you hadn't read the Bible.

Most wouldn't know anything about their local history without it, not to talk of that of Rome, the Jews, or even Egypt. And you just need see how the nations that brought you it have developed to understand how beneficial it has been. Nigerians are walking across the Sahara Desert and swimming across the Channel to get to the heaven they created with it. You'd hear them call home a zoo.

But if you doubt me, see who has a longer life. I've added Japan so you know it's not Christianity that is responsible for living long, but learning, which the West did through Christianity and Japan through their religion, and which we as Nigerians are doing through religion evidenced by you using it as a topic to educate and enlighten me.

Wow! The day a lot hinges on is finally here.

So first of all, knowing how this would inevitably pan out, I want to appreciate budaatum for the role buda played towards making this happen, hence buda needs not deactivate regardless, for that would not be fair on buda for proving that buda was not just talking, but could put buda's moniker where buda's mouth was.

So please buda, do not deactivate for I have already achieved my objective of engaging you on this, and it's not that you deactivate, so if it's up to me, your moniker would still remain active after the end of this year. Thanks.
Very funny jnr. Truth be told though, you have changed somewhat, and that would be a miracle if it weren't that you got schooled and there's no miracle about that.

Still, I'm going to have to hold you to this for the record, least you be let off and revert back to what you used to be. Besides, as you can see, it is not up to me, or you. Nairaland gets to decide who deactivates.

So good luck with the time we have left to the deactivation of one of us. And in case it's buda and I don't get to say this after, I'll miss you all, and wish you the most wonderful and properous new decade during which greater things would you all do.

If only you'd leave things to God, instead of treating God like the puppet on the end of your string.

You will learn.

jesusjnr:
That said, God is not man or like men, but God is God, the Creator of man, who made the Heavens and the Earth and everything in it which He also made in the beginning.

So when man stops, Is the time God begins, for what Is impossible with man is possible with God, for with God all things are possible.

Thank you Father, for the day has come for all men of the Earth to know that You're their Maker and the Lord of all the Earth. And that there's none like unto You.

This day is also an opportunity for You to show unto men what You're able with anyone who gives you the hundred percent you deserve.

Thank you once again Father. I love you so so much!!!

I wouldn't like to disturb you budaatum, but since you said you don't believe that Fulani, herdsmen and others are responsible for the menace and atrocities. Read this yourself and let it be my response to the last mention on previous topic.
I read it and my first reaction is 'lazy journalism'! I am certain the rapist did not just park his herd by the side and commence rape so how and why say it was a herdsman who raped? Just as people here blame herdsmen, this report says the same with no evidence of a herd.

It is typical of we Nigerians, I suppose, to not bother with evidence and to just believe. That's not the behaviour of intelligent people. Intelligent people would ask for evidence instead of simply believing whatever they are told or read in a paper.

Na wa for you self. You're making shoddy inferences. Result of too much unnecessary emotion.

Feminism shouldn't be tantamount to filling your breast with abhorrence towards men. It shouldn't be about equality but rather about equity. Yes, buda, women will never be equal to men, but that does not mean they can't operate on equal footing with men.

By the way, if one were to gingerly observe this bloody shenanigans being propagated by man-wannabe loopy feminists—intending to cage men—the implicit dishonesty and the perversion of divine order being marketed in such an unsavoury endeavour would manifest even to the most blinkered to realities.

Your pathetic feminism is hate-hinged, and a seemly avenue to bring forth needless acrimony and bewilderment in an already well-established, well-understood and wholesome symbiosis. Any flimsy attempt to scuttle or truncate that Godly age-old relationship shall be met with revulsion and deemed satanically-demonic and demonically-satanic.
Not all feminist want to cage men. Some just demand to be treated with regard and respect. It's just a pity some men are pigs that no sensible woman would wish to reduce herself to be equal to.

As for "Godly age-old", "God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them", sounds pretty equal to me until men redefined it and made themselves superior, which they obviously aren't.

How dare you? Are you comparing Boko haram herdsmen genocide, community invaders and land grabbers to random shootings in the US? Where both black, white and yellow are the target to local killings in Nigeria where Mr. A is killed while Mr B is free.

Apart from attack by Islamic terrorist group most attacks in the US are random shooting. Not religion-related. Know where to draw the line.
You probably don't know boko haram and Fulani herdsmen have killed more Muslims than Christians.

Christianity Etc › Re: Rethinking Atheism: Existence Of God by budaatum:

You need to read my post again. Religion only tries to provide a platform for the natural instinct of man and its need for a connection to the Supreme Being. The resason you think knowledge of God comes from religion is because of how we are now born into it and how societies have been formed around religion. It is interesting how you can muddle up the first and last statement to create a problem that doesn't exist.
You wouldn't have any knowledge of a Supreme Being if no one indoctrinated you to believe in one through religion, and the only natural instinct being fulfilled by it is that of ignorance which education would fill if you allowed it.

DirtyGold:
It does not make sense to you because the religion you grew up in programmed you with certain bogus believes that defy logic.
It was you who said you don't understand, and not me. Go read yourself again.

DirtyGold:
A lot of those beliefs you probably believed and held as golden rules once upon a time dont exist in other religions or even variations of the same religion you grew up in. How then do you blame God for what the founders of your religion documented with their limited knowledge? Evolution, science and space exploration are products of man's intellectual development and doesn't remotely suggest man's independence, rather it provokes thoughts of how marvellous the universe is and how much more we dont know yet... all of which cannot be attributed to nothingness or random arrangements.
Blame God? Me? You need to go find out about me instead of allowing your "natural instinct" to delude you. buda does not believe and was not born into a religion.

DirtyGold:
All sorts of gods exist and you can do that to them. However, God created you with that brain to think and understand the world you live in and see how all fit together and appreciate its Maker. So, yes, use your brain to think about all these ideas and questions and you might find answers.
I smh lol.

I might have agreed with you except op clearly said "some" and we all know there are many.

OP, you make it seem like you have been deceived or lied to by a thousand pastors. You experienced just one man's weakness and suddenly generalize it.

Your parents obviously had some weaknesses, would it be fair to suddenly assume that all parents are replicas of the weaknesses you saw in your parents?

I condemn the insincerity you claim was exhibited by the pastor, equally your ill-advised public shaming of pastors; this wouldn't make you any profit either, remember.
