Ah, the collapse of the bankruptcies.
With free money, forbearance, and eviction bans, consumers were let off the hook in a historic manner, as the above charts have shown. As a result, the number of consumers bankruptcies in Q4 dropped to the lowest on record of 93,800.
https://wolfstreet.com/2022/02/09/it-only-took-11-trillion-in-free-money-plus-forbearance-eviction-bans-to-perform-this-miracle-on-delinquencies-foreclosures-third-party-collections-and-bankruptcies/
And its inevitable eventual consequence of paying for it.

The US trade deficit in goods and services in 2021 exploded by 27% from the then-record-worst deficit in 2020, to $859 billion, according to data by the Commerce Department. This is the result of 30 years of rampant and government-policy-encouraged globalization by Corporate America, from Walmart, Amazon, and the vast auto industry to the pharmaceutical industry.

By the way, they are complaining about fuel price rises in America and in UK. Some blame Biden, but I'm very certain it is bubu's fault that petrol price is rising all over the world.

America never had it so bad guys! Oil price going from less than $30 to over $90 in less than a year under senile old Joe!

backbencher:
The solution is to remove subsidy, allow marketers to control the price, then in return for 'high prices' we get regular supply of quality and clean petrol...and more refineries, more jobs, more investment.

But no, we want cheap fuel.

Well, this is what we paid for....dirty and occasionally adulterated fuel...because we want it cheap. Not standard.
Can you imagine? And I bet you are the only one saying this, though I'll read further to see who else has a brain.

We want cheap then blame bubu for adulterated. Bunch of jokers. That's what we are.

budaatum:
Electrical Tomatoes

The emboldened is about the only bit of this that got my attention but I notice it caught no one else's.

"Price controls"! It means a product is kept at a price set by government, and in Nigeria, we know it's kept low and very likely beneath the cost at which it can be sold at a profit. Like petrol really. But we can at least claim a reason for petrol with our crude oil and our ineptitude at running refineries. Electric though!?

Imagine it were tomatoes. You invest in land and fertiliser and labour and grow them, and when you get them to the market and government sets the price. I'm absolutely certain if that price is higher than the cost at which you grow your tomatoes, you wouldn't mind much. You'd likely be delighted if it's high enough for you to make a tidy profit. And if you're fortunate and the price set is so high, you'd likely invest in more land and more fertilizer and more labour and grow even more tomatoes. But this is Naija, where the price set by government is more likely to be way below your costs so that after you sell your tomatoes, you would have lost money.

Now think, you lost money on your tomatoes. Are you going to plant tomatoes next season? If you're into the charity business or you're stupid, you just might. But if you're not and have rent and school fees for your kids to pay and you want to eat and pay the interest on a loan I very much doubt you'd be stupid enough to throw your money away growing unprofitable tomatoes!

Well, that's the case with electricity in Nigeria I'm afraid. You generate it, transport it along unreliable transmission wires, lose a large chunk of it to illegal use and theft and what you do get paid for does not cover the cost of producing it. Now tell, would you plant electricity next season? I very much doubt it unless you're into the charity business or you're stupid of course, but somehow I just can't imagine you'd be either.

So, what's the solution you might wonder. Increase the price of electricity of course. But come on people, increase the price of electricity so electricity planters can earn more money and plant more and sell more? Surely you must be cursing me by now, or haven't you noticed you'd have to pay more for my electric if you want it?

Ok, perhaps you're all nice civilised folks and don't want to curse me so let's try a different way of looking at this. Imagine Buhari removes the price control so I can sell my electricity at a market determined price like I currently sell my tomatoes no doubt at a profit high enough for me to want to plant more next year. Are you cursing me yet? I'm sure you would be if it was the subsidy on petrol I were talking about removing. Hell no! You'd likely stone me if you could get your hands on me!

Well, that's what this piece is saying where it says "The private sector is given little incentive to invest.” After all, I'm in the electric planting business for the money and the profit and not because I love you all as Adam Smith would say, so why give you light if you aren't paying me for the priviledge! And you wanna complain you're in darkness?!

When you pay me enough to cover my planting of tomatoes after paying for the land and the fertilizer and the labour and the interest on a loan and cover what I lose to theft and illegal harvesting, and still make a tidy profit to reinvest, I will plant 12000megawatts of tomatoes and I will sell 12000megawatts of tomatoes and even more megawatts of tomatoes than you can eat even because you would be incentivizing me to invest what you pay me in more land and more fertiliser and more labour to plant more tomatoes so I will have more tomatoes to sell you and make more money. But if you want cheap electric, keep your price controls and don't incentivize me but don't expect me to waste my time labouring in the sun just so you can have light because, like you, I ain't that stupid nor into the charity business!

Anyone cursing me yet, because I am telling you, we are too cheap!

PastorAIO:
Some feel that Paul concocted his own sauce all by himself. A master chef indeed. How many Michelin stars should we give him though.
An amazing individual, that Paul. Some say he was responsible for the Gospel according to Luke but not Mark nor Matthew and definitely not John. Anyone who read the philosophy of his day would see how he mixed a lot of Greek philosophy into his writings. And wisely too. The world was in turmoil at the time so some more general education was needed for the masses for whom Plato would have been far too advanced, so he wrote a childs version. Pity is, most then live by the bread of their Bible alone and do not bother with all other Words that proceedeth from God's mouth, so to speak.

Just imagine what our ideology might be without the book and you might see how far it has brought us. Egypt would have remained more unknown without the entire book and we'd all be writing here in Arabic which arrived in the land known as Nigeria like 500 or so years before Christianity. And that's if we were allowed to evolve beyond the almanjeri status of not understanding the words we read. Not that most do now, mind, but it could have been worse.

I'm glad we have what we do have, as inaccurate as it historically might be, and as misunderstood as it currently is, since it points one in the direction that one should commence asking and knocking and seeking.

We see dimly now, but eyes are gradually opening.

If its not ill-intended then perhaps reign it in somewhat with conscious intention.

My Lord, regarding light creating shadows, I'm still thinking about it. Creating seems to imply intent, so perhaps I'd double down to light being responsible for shadows since you can't have a shadow in zero light. I admit though that the land I'm on is shaky.

This is impressive! IBEDCs should go after all government agencies that owe them money, then they'd have enough incentive to invest in generating more electricity. As it stands, no government agency needs to pay their electricity bills. You just imagine Nepa trying to cut off electric to a barracks or a ministry and you'd understand how much they might owe.

So therefore' you win,
No election malpractice and rigging in Nigeria,
All election held were free, fair and credible,
Settled.
Sonn, this is a pity. No I do not believe. And if you had evidence, you'd have provided it so I can know instead of merely stupidly ignorantly believing you like a brainless idiot!

In my own Orolu Local Government of Ifon Osun in Osun State, there was election rigging and malpractice to the extent that the election was reconducted, so I do not know how you conclude that I am claiming there is no rigging and malpractise in Nigeria elections. Next you'd accuse me of claimimg I say all Nigerians are honest!

My point is, we have courts where we can challenge election rigging and malpractice with proper valid evidence, though courts too can be accused of rigging and malpractise, but that is part of the election process, and its evolutionary effect. We after all do not have the rigging and malpractises of the 60s or 79 nor even the rigging and malpractises of 93 and 99 anymore since rigging and malpractise evolves over time, just as we too should evolve in order to detect and rule it out.

Sonn:
am almost getting tired if voting for nothing since 2015, How do we vote for Mr A and ends up with Mr B? those things PDP use to do under OBJ,
Too painful.
Please, do not give up. We will have rigging and malpractises in the 2023 elections. Our duty is to be diligent so rigging and malpractise are not what determine who rules us just as it has not determined who rules Kano and Imo contrary to what you seem to believe.

I hope you are not conflating "materialist" as used in these discussions with "materialist" as used to refer to a person who is focused on worldly wealth.

materialist
/məˈtɪərɪəlɪst/
Learn to pronounce
noun
noun: materialist; plural noun: materialists

1.
a person who considers material possessions and physical comfort as more important than spiritual values.
"greedy materialists lusting for consumer baubles"
2.
Philosophy
a person who supports the theory that nothing exists except matter and its movements and modifications.
"an atheist and philosophical materialist"
I think you are permitted to assume that anyone who responds to you must have some depth but I understand how this may often be untrue.

No, Deep materialist in this case is not the wealth sort, though spiritually speaking it could be the sort of treasure found in a field.

My point is that most people do not model themselves after the definition of words or a 'Christian' would not gnash their teeth and a 'Muslim' would not blow people up.

LordReed. Just a passing thought I thought to drop. I have told you before about my thoughts about the root of reality being something I call an infinite field of potentialities. The mind is like a minuscule droptlet of that infinite field of potentialities. This is why a mind is a terrible thing to trifle with: because a mind can do almost anything.

The brain is only the physical tool for the expression and manifestation of the activity of the mind.
You wouldn't realise how close you've gotten to what many choose to call God.

The mind is not terrible, unless you fear the power it invests in you.

Eve used her mind, but they wrote it down as a serpent to deter you from its use so you'd be a slave like Adam.

There's you, insisting you are buda while I stand aside and watch you make an idiot of yourself, which you would eventually pay dearly for, not only for electoral fraud but also for impersonation and identity theft and etc.

If you were the electoral officer and find many duplicate budas or anybody turning up, I'm certain bells will ring and measures taken. Electoral officials from either party would most certainly raise objections, especially if multiple duplicates turn up.
