People should understand police was organized in europe during second industrial revolution to protect owners of factories and plantations. In essence, police was established to protect wealthy people not masses.
During colonial era, police was organized to protect colonial masters and force masses into submission.
Fighting crime is just secondary exercise. Less than 10% of people in various detention facilities are criminals. Most people awaiting trials are detained for petty crimes. Really , we do not need national police. Even state and community policing should be for handling major crimes. Petty crimes and civil cases should be handled through arbitration. Police officers have been demonized and weaponized to oppress, intimidate,maim and kill masses.
