yMcy56:Humility in high places. . |
yMcy56:I appreciate your complimentary words. And yes, it is important for investors to watch their backs as you said. Very important. That is a lot of honor, sharing the post of a junior student though ![]() |
Mcy56:I have just learnt to remind myself of Fxuser's quote: "lower lows beget newer/lower lows", which I think means the beginning of a decline should only trigger an action - patience. A trader may continue to jijo in such times, but an investor needs to wait so that it becomes an opportunity. Let us take FBNH for an example. Some people bought at 33 and waited all the way till 22, till 18 and finally till 12 (these prices were supports at different periods). It may sound funny, but that is one of the troubles with being an investor. If we imagine people who bought all the way down 30, 28, 24, 22, 18, 15, 12 we'd observe they would have made more losses than the earlier group. More available cash makes an individual believe they can buy in more tranches further down the trend, meanwhile patience makes an individual wait for supports as entry prices for each tranche. I have just restated what you already know ma'am. Maybe I should just borrow the quote: "the market can remain irrational more than one remains solvent". During periods like this, we need Sir Intendy's updates. Winter is here! |
Mcy56:Yes ma'am, being an investor, as you subtly mentioned, requires large capital. But for someone like me, even though I have a very little capital, the fear of uncertainty makes investing a safer haven than trading. I have been "learning" trading with some fractions of the long-term stocks in my portfolio, but I may just be waiting till I'm large before touching the money-doubling stocks (usually very volatile ones with no strong fundamentals). As my school-mother, you are a student with a difference. I read and learn from your posts, so na guru's like you dey help us get confidence in the junior class where we belong |
rebekah2011:You have added a lot of insight, and I see this as an eye opener to the treasures lying in Zenith. I may look in that direction someday (when I have a much heavier capital); I respect your analysis always. In all, patience is very important when stocks are approaching 52-wk low prices. |
I have been thinking of posting this as a contribution to help newbies and possibly some experienced members of this forum. It is what we all know, but many find hard to follow. For so many reasons, becoming better at investing and trading is way beyond just adopting a plan/strategy and sticking to it. Every strategy still has some needed tweaks based on general market movements or however things turn out in one's portfolio. I have seen some oga's here talk about how they average down, and that catches my attention always, because I think they are too quick to do so. I would like to use UCAP which constitutes about 90% of my portfolio as an example. I joined the moving train early last year around 4.06NGN, and kept on averaging down after the downtrend both pre- and post- dividend payment through till around June when I ran out of funds. I know my usual entry time (which I have been doing for about 4years) to be towards end of the year, and so after I came here for TA advice from the oga's, I sold a third of my holdings when there was a bounce from 2.88NGN to 3.03NGN and re-entered at 2.70NGN. I later sold that chunk at 3.34NGN and held the cash. Now, the decision on when to re-enter is a major task. I watched this same stock drop in price from around 3NGN post dividend, but I deem it patient to allow it shed about 15-20% before I think of buying. The stock passed through 2.80NGN, but it would not have made any difference. While I am a very inexperienced learner and may be very wrong with my planned timing/price, I believe I am making a good move because patience is very key in times of general downward trends. Many large pockets do not have this virtue (patience), and so they continue to average down per 2% drop in price. Of particular mention is Zenith. I would advise that people who bought at 22NGN do not average down until a significant drop in price occurs. Profitability wise, when you buy at 21.80NGN and you buy later at 20.40, it is not averaging down because there are significant charges and all which swallow the units gain or value recovery. In summary, I want to quote @Fxuser's saying: "lower lows beget lower lows". We are all in this together, but we may yet need to be patient before averaging down or selling loss positions out of panic- it is too early to dive into many stocks (falling knives). It is easier for traders to make these decisions, at least because they rather sell on bounces than average down, but investors (who are often at the receiving end in a bear market) struggle to. N.B.: My portfolio is not heavy at all, very insignificant, and on a loss that I am not worthy of giving opinions where oga's dine, but I love to see us all happy/winning in all situations. |
Mfunkynation:I did on Tuesday (April 2). My last name starts with A and I use GTB: if any of those is applied. |
MyVILLAGEpeople:That is not how it works. This is commendable, it is done everywhere. Educational institutions can and do honor talents all over the world. Great people who have created very beautiful profiles for themselves in their career paths even deliver lectures at convocation ceremonies in US. It is a symbol of hardwork, persistence, focus and other qualities required to excel in academics. Moreso, this is the Music department of the school; so it is an event that brings the students and faculty closer to the real world of the profession. |

Mcy56:Thank you very much ma'am. You are very informative as always. |
Hello everyone. Please is today not the markdown date for UCAP? I need some guiding information. Thank you. |
Infinitisi:Good observation. I miss his wealth of information lately too |
dharpzee:Good morning. The minimum amount Meristem accepts for TB investment is N1m. How true is that please? And what is the current interest rate on their mutual funds? Thank you chief |
lonelydora:I share in this line of view. If the last 20years (1999-2019) had been spent experimenting, we probably would have had a party/candidate to confidently settle with by now. As for Ezekwesili, she may not make a totally bad president, as the economy may be boosted on all fronts, but her rule may be ruined by her past relationships with PDP |
Sheq:Please feel free to. I'll be glad to offer any information I can assist with. I guess you mean by email |
donbenie:Thank you enlightening those who seem not to know much about car editions/models. Lincoln is a great brand with unique interior materials and designs. A Nigerian driving a Lincoln is driving a luxury car. Most people hear Linvoln and think about the Lincoln Navigator 1999 edition. The brand rolls out editions annually. |
It is encouraging and inspiring to see such, but in an economy where the real inflation rate is deadly, the money in the piggy bank continues to lose value day by day. Another discouraging factor is the fact that one may just be so unlucky that they get enticed by a friend's late edition of iPhone, and there the money goes. Summary: The whole idea is very great, but how commensurate is the value and eventual use of the money with the deprivations made to gather it? |
Sad news. The topic is double on the front page |
fxuser:Weldone oga Fxuser. Your selfless efforts are appreciated everytime. |
yesloaded:Thank you for the quick reply. The "shipping only" option is what I am in search of. |
Do you do courier services for items from US to Nigria? What are your rates, if you do? And how? Thank you. |
Educative piece |
This is true, but same everywhere. Even in India and China |
Willie2015:Very mature! |

fxuser:My teacher Fxuser, I really appreciate you for this update, and particularly for not forgetting my situation. God bless you sir. I was going to put up an update sometimes this week about my action after you gave the analysis (and guide). As I stated, I never practiced stop loss in the past few years. So, I read your reply to my question and that of Oga BullBearMkt almost everyday (I practically read many times almost daily to understand the messages between the lines). I put up 33% of my UCAP holdings for sale, and about 30% was sold at an average of 3.03NGN (20-21% loss) last week. I feel I should have sold at least 50% though. I will watch out for the 2.40NGN you mentioned. I may end up using the free cash for another stock selling at a great discount(after patiently waiting, till the plunging index gives positive signals). Now I am experiencing the feeling that cash is king, even though one of my legs is in the storm. Oga BullBearMkt, Oga Tritri, I appreciate your analysis and guidance back then also. |
Mcy56:Thank you very much for bringing this to my notice. I will do that immediately. |
Sheq:The pleasure is mine, my oga. Yes, it is safe to remove your email now, I have saved a shot of it. You may send a Nairaland PM if a need arises and I will receive your mail (that may be a good alternative as well). All the best once again |
Sheq:Oh, it's been a long time, and it's true that thread is closed now. There are slightly strict rules on this current thread where I'm replying you though. The tuition and fees are the same for international and local students, even though it is on the high side (as I assume you know already). The school is good in general, and being a private institution, structures, equipment and student-faculty ratio makes you get what you pay for. I am currently not on WhatsApp, but if this was not helpful enough, please feel free, I'll be glad to advise (on any alternative medium). All the best. |
fxuser:I really appreciate this. It is very enlightening. I think I'll just be hopeful that I am able to have some spare cash ready in case the bears decide to have a lavish feast (the uncertain side). God bless you sir |
