GAZZUZZ:Thank you for the response. I will schedule one as soon as possible. |
Good morning Oga Gazzuzz. My 2017 Honda pilot V6 jerks when accelerating between 35 and 50mph. It also takes time to accelerate from 35-65mph in general. When I turn off the Economy mode, the acceleration is a little smoother, but not completely. Could thia be some transmission issue? As advised, I went for a scan and it returned "0 DTC". Secondly, it makes loud squeaky sounds like an a car with a dagling dislocated part (I sometimes think of it as a dangling from bumper, even though I am almost sure it is not) in the first 10-15mins of motion. The fact that this sound stops after some minutes confuses me. This car was recently bought used and the mileage is relatively fair (67k). I am afraid these problems are common among users of this model/edition based on what I have read online. Please advise, and thanks. |
ositadima1:I'll add this to your list. I think it has been recommended on this thread by others in the past. "The little book of value investing" by Christopher H. Browne It is quite basic and easy to read. My reason for recommending it is that it helps with investing even in markets such as US where it is difficult to narrow down a search for undervalued stocks (unlike in NGX where you can decide to use a common sign such as consistency/growth of dividends payment as a safe starting point). A lot of references and great examples dating back to 4-5 decades. I will be giving out some books to interested persons, starting by the end of this year by God's Grace. This will be a contribution in appreciation of the knowledge/exposure I have gained on this platform having read all pages (baring a few here and there, less than a total of maybe 200pages). Mailing will definitely be a hurdle, but we will cross the bridge... |
Anybody who is able to raise NGN300k or more and is wise enough to consider the stocks market as a place to invest should not be seen as an easily-misled mind. "Newbies" is quite overrated here, especially because school fees is a must, regardless of how much of a guidance or education one receives. A newbie is one who is just initiated into a system, and on the contrary, the ones who are considered gullible have chosen not to be initiated into the system of trading/investing - rather, they hear that market indexes are rising, and they want to partake in the free goodies (such persons like to take advantage of ponzi, crypto, anything that sounds like money doubling), and should never be considered newbies because they will rush in and rush out whether they lose their funds or are lucky to double it. Mcy56 has been dishing out live data (good summaries that can easily be permutated for a quick TA), and those of us who have been shut out of live data by the likes of Meristem have been able to follow through price actions without efforts. Please do not feel attacked - everyone whom you think is attacking you probably once praised you in the past for your selflessness here. It is not a bad move to trade stocks either in combination with investing, or as the only goal for being in the market. This forum has helped many of us learn FA either by piintinh us in the directions of resources for learning, or by analyses by the selfless fellows. BullBearMkt and FxUser also did a great job introducing TA (2016, thereabouts) and encouraging members to learn. I personally think that people choose to benefit from capital gains, sometimes as added risks, not just because they are not informed. A good trader makes a kill of every milking cow (fundamentally sound or not) just as an investor strikes bargains where value lies. With the law of diminishing returns still valid, dividends hunting is just a phase in NGX. >10% dividend yield is like blood money in most economies, and I think it is okay to encourage people to learn how to identify opportunities. Having invested in other markets, I know how difficult it is to identify value, or even worse, to identify opportunities (which usually lie in fundamentally unsound stocks). Trends in the world are moving at a fast pace that nobody wants to be left behind. If people are working 3 jobs just to amass enough for the lives of their dreams, why would hunting in the market be offensive? If Amazon now retails raw food, one has no issues raising funds through hunting (the NSEMPA holier-than -thou way of describing trading), as the CEO of their portfolio. Getting too comfortable with dividends might be risky in itself. Both growth and value are essential for success in any asset class venture. |
Geovanni412:This is not to judge the advice or anything. Just a thought. I don't think one's capital should solely define whether to go for blue chips or kobo kobo stocks. I belive that 40% price appreciation in ZENITH is the same yield as 40% price appreciation in WAPIC. And I think a 10million Naira investor needs yield on their capital as a 50k Naira investor does. Kobo kobo stocks need big monies (translating into required volumes) to move stock prices too. I know your advice is in good fate and informed, boss. I'm just clarifying things so they can view the approach holistically. NB: the two stocks mentioned are only references, not implying any recommendation or otherwise. |
ekkywolex:I tried Investment One but NIN was a requirement, and I don't have one. Does anyone know any brokerage that does not require NIN? This help will be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽 |
Curry30:It has been terrible for months. I am actively looking for another brokerage. I am okay keeping them for what I currently have, but not for future transactions. The "live" market data is not functioning. otokx:If I understand your approach correctly, it is stressful because you would need to pretend like you're about to buy/sell to see active bids/offers and other information. It is sad that they have not for once come out to announce an ongoing solution or ever even acknowledged that they know their clients are going through this headache. |
emmasoft:Oga Emma, I am trying to open an account with Investment One through your link, but I do not have a NIN. I remember asking you a while ago and I think you mentioned that BVN was sufficient. |
Saviourplease:Thank you for this inspiring story. I still share mine till today too. When my service year ended in 2013, I had saved NGN206,000 from the NGN19800 × 12months (made sure my tithe and expenses were covered by my PPA allowance), courtsey of my parents' and family friends' help to secure a me a PPA 20min away from home(where I grew up). I split it in half and bought FBN, Eterna, DangoteSugar with one half. I remember reaching out to Pa Emma after reading some of his posts/topics; he was kind enough to grant me a phone conversation. One thing that I have learnt ~10years after is that consistency and being open to education/knowledge is key to growth (or building wealth). I will share below. When I had a life-changing opportunity/event in 2018 (5years after my initial investment), my immediate investment in NGX was more than 5-fold what I had accumulated in the previous 5years of investing. As my income increased over the years, each tranche of investment was heavier than all what I had accumulated by the reference time. Today, I set goals in such a way that the I try to own as many units (units of shares) as the monetary value (Naira) that I used to dream of investing. For instance, if NGN1000 total value of a stock was a dream for me 5years ago, my revision today will be to own 1000 units of the stock. These revisions are my way of growing. Long story short, I'm happy to see such stories as yours and I think we need more such stories here to encourage people with real-life tales. If we see mentions (and even screenshots) of "heavy" dividends or purchases, which I believe are motivating, how much more the stories that we all can relate to - everyone has a begining, goals, current phase and future goals. Everyone who contributes here is doing a great job! |
pluto09:It is really terrible! |
ojeysky:Seconded. My experience with Meritrade has been poor for over a week now. Meritrade is not accessible - both the app and the website. "Trade now" was not accessible this morning while the site was up. The "Market overview" page is also faulty - lists only about 16 securities and does not show bid and offer information, neither is the limited information anything close to real-time. I have been trying to place orders but none is working. Meristem could have at least notified its clients/customers that they will be experiencing some technical glitch in a stated reasonable time frame. |
jceesquare:Thank you sir. I went for a scan yesterday and it returned "0 DTC". The best immediate help I could get to understand what that meant was a Google search which did not really help. I am not sure if the scanner is sophisticated enough as you recommended. 9icetoo:That's relieving to know. Much appreciated sir. I am not sure if there could have been more codes, but I really hope it's nothing major as you guessed. |
Hello house. My 2017 Honda pilot V6 jerks (very lightly and barely noticeably) when accelerating between 35 and 50mph. It also takes time to accelerate from 35-65mph in general. When I turn off the Economy mode, the acceleration is a little smoother, but not completely. I am guessing this is some transmission issue, but have no idea what it really is. This car was recently bought used and the mileage is relatively fair (67k). I do not know if this is a common issue with Honda because I have always used Toyota and I have never had this kind of issue. Please advise, and thanks. |
new highs....Agbalowomeri: |
Mpeace:I was going to say this too. This is a good example of buying the rumor and selling the news. Both investors who are privileged regarding insider info, and traders who can speculate well based on precedence must have bought before the results were released. In this case (UCAP) though, buying the news does not seem like a bad move, unless the goal is to trade shorts. |
Mpeace:That is sad. We can only hope that things get better. |
ebuka1997:It is unclear why we fill out our BVN numbers when opening accounts, and certain processes cannot be automated yet. |
onegentleguy:Modified quote. For many, these selfless analyses of yours and of other contributors here are beyond hints for making profit, but avenues for enlightenment/education. Much appreciated always. I was really trying hard to see what bonanza was being talked about when I started seeing some posts here starting on Monday. It might be quite misleading to regard 5% drop in price as bonanza. If my average entry price in Zenith is N24, its current price might need to drop to as low as N17 (almost ~30%) to make a meaningful impact on my average entry price (if the units bought at low price is significant when compared to existing units). If we are not seeing such drastic drops in price, many of the conclusions here might just be overblown, and sadly just for the purpose of discouraging members who spend time and efforts to educate everyone else here. We might be enjoying stocks being traded much below their fair value or near-term potentials, but that does not qualify a 2-5% drop in price (over the course of a week) as a "bonanza". |
emmasoft:Thank you for the prompt response sir. I really appreciate, and will let him know. |
emmasoft:Modified quote. Good day sir. Please I have a friend who does not have an active Nigerian passport (but an active foreign one), and has no BVN. Can he open an investment account with Investment One? Or any other reputable stockbroker? I am not sure if opening a CSCS account would come with some hurdles, given this situation. Thank you, and I would appreciate any helpful information from any member of the forum too. |
ositadima1:This is selfless! And for welcoming all suggestions/corrections politely, weldone sir/ma. |
sonofElElyon:This is an attractive price to me. In 2020 when NSE ASI dipped to 26K (almost half of what it is currently) or thereabouts, UBA traded N4-N5 maybe a little lower. To me, such a historical low (at least in a 3-4yr history) is what I would call a margin of expectation if my investment goes wrong. I personally think 50% drop in price during a strong bearish season is not too bad for a long term investor. I was dreaming of buying while it traded around N6.60-N7 but no funds. Personally, I was waiting to see their 2021 FY and dividend info before increasing my position because Pa Emma mentioned how the low dividend they paid last year might not be a good signal (I don't joke with his analyses). I bought my first batch at around N8-N8.30 last year when there was no news, and now that the P/E and dividend yield signal good returns, I think it is a good buy at current price. Maybe the following Feb 18th post from a boss will give more support to my opinion: onegentleguy: |
![]() GANDALF1: .FCMB at N0.97-N1.10. I had to read this multiple times, and even in my mother tongue and applying the appropriate stresses. I could not stop laughing. I agree with you sir - age in the market is an asset that cannot be bought with money, if the investor/trader sees every event as an opportunity to expand their knowledge base. |
Biafran4life:I remember reading your post, and I was interested in seeing the outcome. On point boss! But I don't pray it moves up yet . Current price seems very attractive for buying more.Which one is big for nothing? Elephant? |
Mcy56:Weldone for the selfless updates Madam Mercy. I was expecting this too based on historical trends. Anyone buying UCAP/AFRIPRUD after release of FY financial reports might be buying at a wrong time. It always obey the saying that "the good result has been factored into its current price AT release of reports". In my opinion, the best way to position for dividends in these stocks is to buy when there is low activity in the market during the year (maybe June-Spetember), OR if buying for trades/shorts, one should buy about two months before release of Financials (based on speculation that it will rise before release and still rise when some people start rushing to buy with the hope of juicy dividends). Capitas7:The summary is that an investor who bought at N9 in H2 last year and enjoys the capital appreciation plus apprx 15% div yield and a trader who bought UCAP two months ago at about N10-N11 to sell at N14 a few days after release of Financials would both make more profit than an "investor" or a "sharp guy" who buys at N13-N14 after release of Financials for the hope of enjoying the juicy dividends and then selling shortly after payment. |
emmanuelewumi:This sounds really good. Thank you sir. Hopefully opportunities for entry will be presented during the growth period. |
sonofElElyon:...and from 71k EPS compared to 72k 2020 EPS. There is no noticeable growth to make investors particularly excited. This reminds me of Pa Emma's note from a week ago: emmanuelewumi:AFRIPRUD remains the dry bone I will keep believing in: someday it will rise again . Hopefully more opportunities (lower entry prices, attractive P/E) to load will open up in the coming months. Far from the best, but way better than many on the exchange. |
beejay1:Apparently, they are experiencing troubles with emails too.
|
Topson88:Some are being discussed here on a regular basis. What qualifies as growth potential stocks for me might not qualify as same for you my bro/sis. The following is not part of the answer to the question, but meant to shed more light on my post: Most of the stocks that surprised investors (positively) and those that shocked investors (negatively) were either discussed or mentioned on this platform. UCAP was discussed in 2016. Guiness was mentioned by 2 or 3 bosses here, similar story for Vitafoam, some pharmaceutical companies and so on. Sound fundamentals, consistency, management, etc. exist in many stocks, such that in a matter of some time, they will be the center of the market's attention. The price paid for uncalculated FOMO is sometimes more frustrating than living with the bitterness of missing out. |
emmanuelewumi:Very informative - no growth without innovation. APR seems very deep in this sleep after all. I always wondered why the growth of APR stopped all of a sudden. This is good to know. |
emmanuelewumi:Hmmm... good word for thoughts sir. I can't wait to see the day Afriprud will wake up, so I can give this kind of narrative too. Till then, I will keep buying Afriprud with at least 30% of my UCAP dividends (as in previous years). |
gbengafaro1986:On the positive side, there are enough stocks with growth potentials to go round. |
