TLuzzie: Indeed! IF it had a beginning. If Physical Cosmology later reveals that the universe had no beginning, and has existed forever, then the idea of an eternal origin must be discarded, and "God" in ALL its forms will be permanently dead. I think the universe has no beginning. Mistake people make is assuming that the Big Bang was the beginning, Beyond the Planck epoch, science have theorized that there was something, just that it has no predictive value. |

TLuzzie: Lol. When I call myself an atheist, it's in relation to the Gods of monotheistic and polytheistic religions, not the origin of the universe, which MUST definitely exist IF the universe had a beginning. So you might want to ignore semantics and letters and focus on the idea behind them. The caveat there is IF. |

Full Definition : belief in the existence of a god or gods; specifically : belief in the existence of one God viewed as the creative source of the human race and the world who transcends yet is immanent in the world...

KingEbukasBlog: There is no origin . And yes , the universe continously needs God for its existence. And God can decide to end the existence of the universe since it is greater than it and exist as a separate conscious being. Creatio ex materia already said that the universe can exist separate from god, it just needs the continuous intervention from god in order the sustain it's existence. I think adding that caveat is some sort of ad hoc hypothesis to make the argument make sense. Going by the logic of creatio ex materia, god can go off in one direction dancing outside the universe and generally having fun, while the universe can go off on it's own to develop into the universe as we know and never the twain shall meet. Why does the universe need god for its sustainability? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Deism- The Last Refuge For A Dubious Religious Apologist by CatfishBilly: 12:18pm On Jul 12, 2017 |
KingEbukasBlog: No it does not because without God the universe will not exist . The universe needs God to continously interact with it for it to exist from past infinitude
That means God can decide to end the existence of the universe even though it has coexisted with It from past infinitude .
You get? Let me see if I get. The universe and god are not two parallel lines from the same "point" of origin, they intersect at some point and the universe continuously needs god for its existence? |

KingEbukasBlog: A we talking of Christianity or theism? What concerns the scripture now because it does not even say the universe came from nothing.
Created out of the being of God is somewhat like panentheism, whereby the universe is the material manifestation and it interprenates in it but the immaterial being is yet distinct and greater than its material manifestation.
Ephesians 4:6 King James Version (KJV) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
I think this verse gives the greatest hint that everything was created from the being of God . Can somebody explain this to me in simple English. Thanks. |

EnigmaticEnigma: That friend had no idea who my professor was.
Remember I said I called the tow company and if they had trucks available at the time, I wouldn't even have found the need to go to the computer lab.
It's not very often in Dallas, that you call a tow truck company for assistance and they tell you that they don't have trucks.
Lastly, imagine a key in the middle of the street. Not in a closed classroom or a closed toilet, but a street were thousands of students/ordinary folks use. Then of all the people walking on that street, it's my professor who happened to pick it up. Same professor I wouldn't have called, if not for my friend. Same friend I wouldn't have met, if the tow company actually sent a truck as usual when I called.
Remember, the friend suggested I call the professor cause he thought I may have left it in class, which may be common. Meanwhile, the professor found the key on the street. From what you mentioned here, your friend made an educated guess (it's not out of place to think that your professor saw your keys when he assumed that you lost them in class) which coincidentally, happened to be correct. So, I'll put it down to a mixture of an educated guess plus coincidence |

ifenes: This is really interesting. I am happy to see people who think outside the box with upgraded minds. All humans are the same but all do not vibrate at the same frequency.
All mobile phone can primarily make calls and send text messages but you cannot expect the 3310 Nokia to carry out the unique functions of an iPhone 7. In fact the vintage Nokia fone will argue that it is not possible to do a video call simply because it cannot do it or imagine such possibility. This is what goes on in the human world. Logic is limited and those governed by logic alone are prone to sever ignorance. They want evidence they can see with their limited foresight. It is not impossible to explain a 3 dimensional theory to a 1 dimensional being.
Once upon a time I joined an "Atheist" whatsapp group chat via naira land. Honestly I have never met such extreme ignorant minds as I did on there They claim to be "free thinkers" but will not consider the possibility of a parallel universe or possibilities of existence of higher dimensions. They were always quick to debunk. They crave debunking anything contrary to their views. Such mindsets are enslaved to science and Charles Dawkins just as Christians are to the false interpretations of the bible. Oga ife, please, let this go. I'm begging you. |

spacetacular: Read above. So, compare that to these But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:12, 20 NKJV Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. (Matthew 18:19-20) Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. (Mark 11:24-25) These totally presented Jesus as a cosmic vending machine. How do you reconcile? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Christian Doctors And Science Students (science Vs Religion) by CatfishBilly: 6:06pm On Jul 07, 2017 |
spacetacular: And I have shown you that Prayer cannot be experimented upon. So the Templeton foundation prayer experiment isn't evidence as its impersonal to you. Below is an analysis of the experiment.
"The problem with the Templeton prayer study was based in the hypothesis itself: if we pray for someone then God will intervene in some supernatural way to restore a person’s health. No doubt this is a wonderful concept, but it eliminates the truth about the subject being studied. In the same way that the Prosperity Gospel cult has undercut the basis of Christian belief, this study is based on a lie. Somehow people have come up with this idea that if we ask for something then we can obligate God to deliver.
What kind of God would he be if we were able to say just the right words or preform just the right action that would somehow get God’s attention and thus getting a desired result? This concept makes God not God at all, but rather some cosmic vending machine or light switch
In John chapter 3 Jesus describes to a religious leader, Nicodemus, the nature and action of God. “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.” This makes the scientific study more akin to the study of psychology. If God is a volitional being, then we cannot expect that God will perform based on a regular standard and without fail.
In essence this study was not about prayer at all, but about the effect of positive words and their impact on a person’s health.
This is not to deny the power that abides in prayer, but it does stand in the face of a fallacy. Prayer is not about getting our goodies from God, but it is about trusting God to do what is best. It is about building a relationship and leaning on the truth that comes from that relationship.
This study would be just as flawed if it were conducted on child-parent relationships and we expected that the child would receive everything she asked her parents for. No doubt we would think very poorly of a parent who did that and it would be no stretch to expect that the child would be a lazy, fat brat. No doubt we would be in quite a big mess if God also fulfilled every request to our liking. It frankly gives me much satisfaction that this study was a failure, because it strengthens my trust in a God that cannot be contained".
So you see what you say drew you away from God drew another to God in a much stronger way.
Carefully read the observation again. Jesus actually presented himself as a cosmic vending machine. The new testament is littered with passages to that effect. Unless you're choosing not to look at it from that angle, then that would firmly be your choice, not what the scriptures say. |
