Good day House.

Please I need the screen for this inverter. Probably you have a dead inverter who can be a SCREEN DONOR!

Kindly get in touch with me.

Lol @ screen donor. Like organ donor.

I think you can easily get this stuff on any of those online Chinese websites at cheapo prices.

I remember weeks ago that I needed to help an family friend repair his kids tablet. Had been charged 6k for repairs which i almost paid. All these very rare tabs with strange names. For a whole month dealers going to Lag could not find a matching screen and I had to retrieve it. So i had a nudge to open it up, copy out the code numbers on the flex cable and entered it in the search box on one of these websites and viola! I got it down to Nigeria for N1,860 naira, fixed it myself and it's been working fine ever since.

@impatient... Lol i knw that feeling. Very sorry for the loss of equipment.

@battery... I never knew lithium had button cells oh. Thanks for the tip on removing them. Where can i get a replacement for it? Or would a normal button cell of diff chemistry work? Maybe its supposed to charge the lithium cells hence I'm asking abt the diff chemistry swap
The lithium cells are supposed to be recharged as you use the device with the mains. I think the only place you can get replacement will be online stores like AliExpress.

The wattmeter I use was not shipped with a battery as I am expected to buy a button cell into the battery compartment. I believe it probably requires a non-rechargeable type. But since I haven't even the luxury of time to start looking for the right battery size, I have been using it as it is. I think you can also use yours in that manner.

Any medium range inverter of 1.5kva should be ~ 1050w, say a PF of 0,7. D inverter should be capable of *2 surge(minimum, so that will be 2100w). So, yes it can handle a 1500w surge. Some inverter claims *3 surge.
Thanks bàbá.

hi all,

i have two wattmetres that stopped working, opened them up and found batteries inside. apparenty those batteries are gone. the thing now is that i discovered those batteries were spot welded!! what can i do to replace the batteries?
Those are rechargeable lithium button cells. 3 days ago, I burnt the 12vdc/12vac input/230VAC output sinometer I had by plugging it into a 220VAC socket. Two pieces had been lying fallow unused for about a year and both batteries were presumably discharged. I was able to rejuvenate the 220VAC input within seconds of plugging it into an AC socket while the 12VDC/12VAC input plugged into a 12vdc source only lighted the manual led but the LED screen wouldn't come on after about 30 minutes. I got impatient and decided to plug it into an AC socket and poof!

Now in hindsight, I should have simply removed the spot weld (it's possible to just do it like you would the 18650s) and use the 230VAC variant to charge it, a long process that I was unwilling to go thru and thinking I could get away with a quick 220vac on 12vdc/12vac. What da heck was I thinking?!

I will advice you just get a sharp long nose plier to pry the nickel contact off the battery, it's a 1.2volt nominal button cell which is totally discharged so I think you shouldn't worry about any fire hazard associated with the lithium chemistry shytes. Get a rechargeable replacement and just solder it (in the absence of a spot welder).

i have a question. i use a luminous hybrid inverter and I'm planning on upgrading to a felicity mppt charge controller. the question is,will charging the batteries with the inverter and controller simultaneously have any negative effect on my batteries?
I don't suppose so.

It will just be like when you have both a standalone 220v battery charger and your SCC hooked into the battery. Both will charge as they should, carefully guarded by their respective charging algorithms vis-a-vis the SOC of the battery, which will of course be entirely different from when each is used separately.

Thanks @ Oshomo12. And sorry, my bad. 750va I meant. grin

So you assume the 1.5kva inverter will handle a surge current of 1,500 watts of the freezer comfortably?

By the way, does anyone have experience with the 12v/1.5kva version of this product here as regards the surge power it's capable of handling?

NiyiOmoIyunade:
It depends on your specific inverter.

What is quoted on label sticker should be the rated continuous running power as the main highlight then reference the surge capacity if it is noteworthy.

The high end inverters like Victron or SMA or Magnum e.t.c you can typically run them at near 100% of their rated capacity with no issues - *this is subject to standard temperature derating of the inverter load*

The asian origin inverters are a mixed bag - you generally want to stay within 70-80% of rated capacity for indian brands like Su-Kam, Luminous e.t.c especially with surge loads and all - these generally seem to have zero to low surge capacity - they are designed more like UPS.

For chinese brands like MustPower, these have up to 3x surge handling capacity but for continuous running you still want to stay within 70-80% of capacity. These mustpower types have robust transformers and FETs, the failure mode is commonly the control circuitry and associated components.

For all those other chinco el cheapo inverters especially the transformerless types, you generally want to stay within 50-60% max (no surge loads at all) if one hopes to use them for a long time without breaking them.
Thanks for looking my way Oga Niyi.

I was planning to get a prag inverter for mumsie's freezer. Freezer was initially on a 1200w/12v rated chino stuff but occasionally at start up draw of 1400 watts by the freezer, the inverter flops. I have to do 2 or 3 quick restarts of the switch to get the freezer to eventually have the start up draw of 180 watts and then things go smoothly. This Thermocool freezer is rated 110 watts continuous power but i can't explain why it has to give a start up of 1400 watts at some times when at most times the start up draw is 180 watts (sadly the wattmeter did not detect this arbitrariness when the freezer was tested at the point of purchase).

Reason I'm thinking that a prag 750kva/12v may have 1500 surge capacity required to start the freezer without having to do those 3 minutes priming of re-starts to get the 180 watts startup draw, a process that seriously limits the prospect of automation for daily operations of the freezer.

Do you think a prag 750kva will be alright or a higher capacity? The power needs is only for the freezer and no other appliance added.

Okay.
Would those 2kva series also be able to power a 1hp inverter AC, alone I mean?

Now there is this thing I am a little confused about. Is the ratings labelled on these inverters (kva) the continuous power rating or the surge rating? The reason for seeking clarification is that I notice some products on offer online give a labelled rating to their device which eventually turns out to be the surge ratings and this makes some buyers to complain in their reviews.

Is the standard expected rating on any inverter label the continuous power or the surge power?

Thanks.

oh i didnt see that, i guess your inverter has a good surge rating??, maybe mustpower brand??
a 4kva/3kw mustpower brand has a surge rating of 9kw, hence it can power a 2hp or even 3hp motor/pump, as motors draw as high as 6x rated energy during startup.
so at OP, make sure your inverter has a good enough surge handling capability
Thanks to earthrealm and Oshomo12.

Questions
Two fans and tv power constantly, for how long, eg 24/7?

What are the fans wattage?

Pumping 2hr, re u wiling to pump during the day only or u want to pump at night?

Inverter
A good 24v 2kva inverter will handle the work.
Thanks.

1. Fans are just the low wattage (<35 watts at full op variants) x 2 makes 70 watts, with the TV and about three 5 watts LED bulbs makes lkke 115 watts (that's assuming the 22" TV take 30 watts at full blast). All these to be worked only during shop hours: 8am till around 8pm everyday except Sundays. Definitely sundown hours will span from 5:30pm, so that's like 3 hours of run off of batteries.

2. Pumping will only be during daytime and since there is a storage tank, no emergent water requirements that may require pumping during the night is anticipated.

Do you imply a good 24v 2kva inverter will handle the work, especially with the load of the 1hp pump just fine? Let me quickly add that since some degree of automation (float switches and other gamut) is being planned for the entire water pump-storage system, the 1hp pump may kick in during any of the daytime moments other appliances are on the inverter. So would a 24v/2kw inverter adequately muscle the surge expected?

What ampacity and config of battery bank would you recommend?

How 'bout panels cap and config?

Thanks.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ceaser: 9:56pm On Jul 09, 2019
Dear profs.
Okay, so there is a surface well pump of 1hp that is to be weaned off of generator power and migrated to being powered by inverter and solar. Thinking the unit will be on a stand alone set up. This stand alone set up will constantly power about 2 fans and a small 22" TV (in a nearby shop the roof of which will bear the solar panels and house the inverter) and occasionally handle the pump for 2 hours at a time. Pumping will likely be every other day or at worst every three days.

What would be your advice as to the best set-up (battery cap, inverter size, panel sizes and config?
Also would you say PWM or MPPT?

Now with the thought of going DC, some online seller gave a link to solar surface pumps.

About 518usd, DC36volts, 450watts- https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32441288260.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.3d073e5ficYCD6&storeId=1021488

About 370usd, DC48volts, 800watts- https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32981225145.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.3d073e5fYTfFYJ&storeId=1021488

Overall costs of those including solar add ons appear non cost effective compared to AC pump-inverter arrangement.

Which of these two approaches (i.e AC pump vs DC pump arrangement) would you say is wiser for the solution?

Thank you.

I got a voltmeter and I only charge the batteries to 12V maximum. I don't exceed that.
You can get by if you stick to that schedule. But i think part of the fun especially with lithium things is divesting yourself of the much stress of having to frequently baby sit that battery chemistry, for it tolerates more discharge abuse than the average lead acid chemistry. I think you having to constantly look out for when it reaches 12volts may not be fun enough. What even of you have to leave home when it's charging and you are not chanced to measure it?

I think a little curiosity about lithium BMSes and try DIYing some will be of great help.

Clamp either the positive or negative terminal of the battery cable and turn on the inverter with no load connected to it. You can then be able to see the no load current drawn by it. A wattmeter can only check the wattage of devices connected to it.

This clamp meter keeps resurfacing as a reoccurring decimal amongst things I should have, having been able to get thru most applications I encountered with the use of the regular voltmeter.

I think some cells were dead before I started using them cos I didn't throw any cell away from the dead laptop battery as I have no means of testing anything.

Also, I only charge it for 5hours whenever it needs to be recharged which is mostly once in a week cos I only use the fan at night when there is no nepa light for the ceiling fan and that 5hours charge can carry me for about 5 nights at average speed before the fan stops working and needs to be recharged.

I have been doing it that way for 3 months plus now. Unless if charging it for the 5hours can raise the battery voltage above the 12.6v maximum. But, the battery has never for once gotten hot. Can it still explode without getting hot?

Where do I get a volt display so I can always put it off when it gets to about 12.4V? Or is there any device I can connect to it that would automatically stop charging once the volt gets to the 12.4V?

below is the battery that came with the fan. It says 12V.

I'm not using any external charger to charge it. It's a rechargeable fan. I'm using the inbuilt charger, I guess.

I disconnected the battery that came with it and connected the laptop battery directly to the wires.
shocked shocked
Ojigbijigbi!!!
The in-built AC charger will definitely reach 14.4v or maybe 15v for a 12v lead battery. Now to place 14.4v charging voltage on the Li-on pack with bypassed BMS means each cell getting at least 4.8v instead of 4.2v max. Bro, you have been lucky for 3 months.

I have inadvertently shorted 18650s couple of times and it has always been a frightening experience each time. Now imagine those edgy lithium chemistry 18650s catching fire from overcharge.

All DIY 18650 setups that I have are outside the house. Even the factory made banks that I tinkered with by adding extra batteries are all installed outside the house. In freaking metal casings!

Very true, it peaked at 800+ at startup, but eventually went down to 600+.

The other regular units are stuck at +- 1300 all through.
So that means a 1.1Kva (better with a 1.5kva) inverter will stand "gidigba" if hooked to a stand alone modular unit for that 1hp inverter AC.

Nice.

The Hausa/Fulani and their Yoruba collaborators have continually denied the Igbos of the either.
But really, how do you think this works? You tag the country a Zoo and you expect people to be sympathetic to your cause? The first time I heard radio Biafra was one of my trips to Onitsha and boy was I shocked by the hate and violent against the rest of Nigerians being promoted? When Radio Kudirat was on air against the military junta, the messages broadcasted were always the mind of Nigerians against the military junta, not the world of the rest of the country against the Hausa which held power then. As a result, the common hausa man on the street was sympathetic to the cause being broadcasted on Radio Kudirat. Why make more enemies for yourself when you can simply make more friends and gain more ground and support base therefrom? Even right here on this post, the man who advocated for Igbo presidency is of Yoruba extraction and half of the replies that follow have being about the bashing of his kinsmen. I mean, who does that?

You really need to ruminate on this and change your approach to conflict resolution in order to clinch that which you so desire. Brute force may not always suffice.

Femi should understand that there is a silent restructuring sweeping across the country. It's understandable if his ilks decide to overlook it because they are in the opposition. For the first time since the return of democracy, our local governments are getting financial autonomy. The committee set up by the president in march to review the autonomy of state legislature and judiciary just submitted their report and will also be implemented. They would also get their own full autonomy. There is very strong advocacy for state police to enhance security of Nigerians. Truth be told, steps are been taking but I guess the present government is taking it in piecemeal.
God bless you. The high power delegation that met with PMB on South West Security few days ago stuck to some agenda: State Policing and community policing and also implored the FG to stick to the recommendations in the white paper of re-structuring.

The recent developments in rail and slow but gradual economic diversification is to groom non-oil producing regions to stand on their feet should re-structuring take a foot hold. The FG has placed ban on forex for textile importers (to give some leverage to the North), palm oil (south south), coal (SE), bitumen exploration (SW). While these may not be enough, it is a start. Lagos is working towards being accorded special status. The part that this government is trying to use to spoil the good plans is the nonsense "Ruga settlement" which I am tempted to believe that PMB is not in full control of things, but a cabal, for such foolish idea to sail through (I stand to be corrected).

Concerning the Local Government autonomy which the thieving governors fiercely opposed, the good thing is that it has come to stay and it will be easier for the FG to demand accountability from the LG chairmen (who does not have immunity) than they would from state governors who have immunity.

I urge Nigerians not to resolve in their resistance to the establishment of grazing routes in whatever forms the FG disguises it. You stood against "grazing reserves" and "grazing colonies" successfully. "Rugs settlements" should be strongly resisted. The only allowed form of cattle husbandry should be ranches. Private business is private business. Let cattle owners negotiate for LEASE of lands from other regions apart from theirs under terms and conditions laid out by the owners, the breach of which can call for a revocation of such deals.
