Please we should be careful with our DIY. certain level of hazards is inevitable but of course without experimenting we won't learn new things. grin
Now I'm seriously having second thoughts about DIYing those lithium I have stored up. First I didn't even store them in the main house but in a shed outside. Second, they are all neatly arranged inside a nylon wrap (in fours), no metal shrapnel or screws are located anywhere near it. Haba! Na wa for Lithium o.

If I will go ahead with the diy pack, I must first get a welder to make a metal container and na for inside that I go put am. I cannor come and be having heart attack.

I took this battery from a ups and connected it to my panel to watch a program. The following morning i left it to charge while my wife watch tv. Unfortunately she went out and by the time she came back, all she was hearing was a shrill noise. Rather than disconnect, remove this battery and return to the original battery, she put on the tv and the noise stopped. Case settled as far as she is concerned. By the time I came home in the evening and she told me all, the battery is bloated ti this level( picture attached).
1. Can i still 'manage' use the battery?
2. What is the implication eg fire hazzard, explosion etc?
2. Why fidnt the cc trip off and stop the vharge agter the battery became full, or is it not suppose to do so. It is a 12/24v pwm
4. Would incorporating a fuse after the cc prevent such occurence in the future for even if i am using a bihger battery (100ah for example) and it gets full while i am not home, suvh can still happen.
5. I am saving up for a mppt cc (that fake/original that was a csuse of argument on this loop recently, bluegate or do: will confirm the name)

It may just be because they caught a ring leader who ratted out the others. You'd expect that most of the dealers will be from one stock. In this, I suspect it is linked to that "young advanced yahoo entrepreneur" guy nabbed few weeks ago.

Now in the same vein, if they were to catch one dealer or ring leader of peeps from SW Nigeria, what names d'you think will populate the list? SW names of course.

So it's just that these met their waterloo this time around. At other times, some others will meet theirs sooner or later.

The sad and most important part though is that all Nigerians, irrespective or tribe or clan, will be recipients of the backlash of this negative publicity. We should cease being selfish in our actions and always think of the consequences and the collateral damages such actions will have on the lives of those people, which may even be innocent total strangers, that are not in on our actions.

of course when all that happens and life appears no longer sustainable on earth, the privileged ones will relocate to some distant planet Mars colony.

Did you think it is by coincidence that some Sci-fi movies depict human relocation to Mars following nuclear apocalypse on earth? Or that Trump has signed into law some sort of "US Space Force"? Or that the Elon Musk spaceX guy suddenly has significant breakthroughs into re-usable space vehicles instead of the one-off use that characterised most space missions?

Except if some sort of divine apocalypse takes place as prophesized in the scriptures in the form of the rapture amd all other events following up to it, a man-made nuclear event may just be a matter of time.

quite tricky.

the charger that comes with the zinox has a charging voltage of 19v with 3.5amps. your solar panel will produce something around that amount IN CLEAR BRIGHT SUNSHINE. on cloudy days the 80w panel will be insufficient. , I still suggest the 150w panel.

also, when connected directly, I noticed the battery voltage kept increasing to the the Voc limit on the panel. this is bad for lithium batteries. which is why the PWM controller whose link I posted will come in handy. it will limit the charging voltage to the value acceptable by your zinox Powerbank.

please be careful.
@ bolded. I guess your Zinox Powerbank has some form of voltmeter added to it which was not originally manufactured in it. That voltmeter is connected to the terminals that receive the direct volt input on the CC-CV board and that is the reason for the absurdly high voltage. Meanwhile, the BMS does its good job of maintaining the cells voltage within acceptable limits.

Or so I suppose.

yes I intend getting a solar charge controller I think it's about 5000 Naira in the market.
So if I have the 80 watt solar panel and I have the solar charge controller I can easily connect it to my zinox power bank right?
Please how much is the 80 watt solar panel price currently?
Only a programmable SCC can give you the luxury to programme the output charge voltage and current to the battery pack. The 4s config gives (4.2v x 4 or 16.8v). Your regular 5000 naira 12v/24v PWM SCC can only do fixed 15.5 volt output at the battery terminals. That is suboptimal for your Li-on pack. 15.5v charge will bring each cell to 3.8v which although is not entirely bad for the cell as the low discharge cut off is 2.7v per cell, but you won't be able to use the full capacity range between 2.7v to 4.2v of your battery.

So effectively at the end of the day, you will be cheating yourself.

Mine has been on 100 watts panel. The device supplier says that it can still do fine on 150 watts. There is a CC-CV board inside that handles the single port for the AC charger or the solar panel. The other board in the device is the BMS.

I have noticed that not all DC fans come with brushless dc motors. Some simply use a brush dc motor. That is still more energy efficient than an ac motor, but a brushless dc motor is the best energy wise, plus it doesn't generate static noise that can interfere with radio signals. Just so you knw.
Thanks. But unless it is stated on the item package or the name plate, don't you think it will still require some tearing down to be able to tell what type of motor is inside?

pure sine wave inverters are more expensive and hardly come in lower capacities less than 1000w.

p.s you should know that there is a load limit of 100w on the zinox power bank. so I guess buying an expensive pure sine wave inverter for a 100w load limit is not cost effective. depending on your load, buy a MSW 300W portable inverter. or check this link:

Thanks a lot.
Yes I use the zinox power bank. The black 105000 m a h. what about inverter? Which inverter should I use?
You can you any of the low cost inverters of around 1000watt (around 750kva) or less, that is if your load does not exceed that.

But then your 105000mah seems to be the cumulative mah of the the cells in the pack, but the effective backup power provided by that bank is less, around 30ah (or thereabout) at 16.8volts. The cells are in 4s12p configuration.

I have about two of those. I constantly use one for experiments and first blew a fuse when I tried to use it to power a 200 watts gate opener (via inverter). I guess the on-board BMS is not designed to handle that much discharge current. I got by with just a blown fuse and repaired it.

Another instance was trying to use it to power a 12v bilge pump that I had used for the fountain in the compound. Well, after one minute of running, it smoked, fumes from the vent and this time as good as blown BMS board. What I am not sure of is whether there was excessive current draw by the pump or some form of back EMF from the pump into the power bank that could have been minimized by some capacitor connection in between the two. Anyways, I have scrapped it and all the batteries, still well within 1900mah each are waiting for a 24v DIY Li-on power bank with a better and stronger BMS.

So you may want to baby your Zinox power bank carefully to avoid blowing it up.

Yup understood, though I must note that my generation period is currently between 8:30 to 5pm and this is due to the fact that I am currently running the minimum panel requirement for the system hence due to low Voc the CC doesn't commence mppt early/late enough, will add more Panels in future as budget permits.

I will not condemn you on the bolded simply because everyone learn everyday. No one knows it all.

Those are restraints, albeit a poor attempt at improvisation since that's not the standard type of materials used for restraints.

Head injury patients with altered sensorium tend to get restless as part of their presentation. They are unconscious but can display impressive powers in movement of the limbs. They pull out endotracheal tubes, intranasal oxygen prongs, face masks or even urinary catheters. These are devices that are sent into recesses in the body of the patient and you wouldn't want them injuring 'emselves in trying to pull out these things. So the need for restraints.

It's not racism as you thought.

Let me give an analogy of what you just said.

A tank of water is connected to several pipes and one of these pipes take water back to the tank, then you expect the water to sustain for a long time even though other pipes take water to other places for other uses.

The electricity generated by this generators being used for other purposes while part of it is used to recharge the battery and you expect the generator to continue running. Niggah, go back and study engineering very well and focus more on energy conservation.

For your info, I watched the 6 minute video from begining to the end.
The dude did not mention anything about perpetuity of the machine vis-a-vis the water. He says 1 litre runs it for 6 hours producing 1000 watts of 230v to 240v energy. After 6 hrs, the water needs replenishment. That the generator works is not the feat here, but the fact that it works on what you can obtain cheaply from your environment is the feat. The 18ah rechargeable battery (sold for less than 10k) is not something that should give a significant minus to the apparent efficiency in that set up.

Energy companies will frown at people using a freely obtained product, especially one with a good emission index to produce energy.

Probably why the video was taken down by YouTube. Nigerians with dubious claims.
I don't think it was taken down by you tube, but if it was indeed taken down,, I see it as bad belle and I'm glad i already downloaded the video.

I would love to get in touch with the dude to take me thru how his concept works. That way I'll be able to reason out its viability or otherwise. Then i won't have to bother myself arguing on social media on the workability or otherwise of the concept.

Years back, people that experimented with electric vehicles in form of lead acid battery driven saloon cars (remember that trucklifts have been battery powered for years) and uploaded the videos on you tube had such taken down and the crude oil companies mounted an intense campaign against them successfully. The guys simply removed their gasoline engines from their scrap cars and transplanted a forklift drivetrain in such cars. Some of the guys actually alleged being approached by some energy companies to bury those workable ideas of theirs or risk getting into serious trouble.

In less than a decade after, the rave about electric cars began with the use of Lithium battery technology (lithium battery technology had been maturely developed since about 15 years ago including the intricate Battery Management Systems that accompany its use, yet the proof of concept of an electric was deemed impossible as at then). The credit to this technology is solely claimed by the caucasians thru their boy Elon Musk who unsurprisingly is also the custodian of groundbreaking space technology that may hallmark in the privileged amongst men relocating to a space colony while the earth crumbles under the destruction that our activities has done to mother nature.

Now in less than 5 years after that "officially gazetted/permitted" rave about electric cars was allowed to start, electric cars concept has developed at such quick and massive pace that even trucks now conveniently do fine on batteries.

What d'you think happened within those short period that wouldn't have happened a decade ago if some government conspiracies had not clamped down on it?

There are always genius outliers amongst populations in every race. These categories of people are able to innovate and invent ahead of their time. But government and government agencies step in to regulate such people as they seem fit, or at most twist the narrative as they wish to. If caucasian, then it was really an invention amd this is propagated as much as possible and integrated into the psyche of the "less privileged" race. But if the inventor was black, and sadly as blacks are neither really writers of their own history nor custodians of same, the narrative gets twisted or shoved into oblivion such that the average black will then believe that nothing of spectacular invention can proceed from his race. The Hydrogen bomb and Nuclear bomb were inventions way ahead of their time, midwifed by geniuses but allowed to be birthed by the powers that be because at such time, such invention was expedient to end the war, otherwise it would have equally been tagged as an impossible feat to harness such massive energy from just a splitting of invisible atoms that make up an element.

For me, and in the case of this dude, I would have loved to be educated on how he made this to work. I will then juxtapose that with my own background knowledge and with that help myself overcome the belief system that traditional science has indoctrinated in me about the impossibility of such concept and then maybe strike a partnership deal with the dude and with a few other well meaning individuals. I can provide the finances, some logistics, apply for patents and a start up is birthed. The west and the Nigerian government may go to hell for all I care. By the time the concept is put to good use to power a whole of small community in my street or hometown, self-sponsored, it will be hard to shut down. You can shoosh one person, but a whole community who has had first hand experience of the workability of such concept will be harder to quieten.

The recharging will be done during sun hours and of course the battery (master) will be fully charged. At that point the power to the inverter to charge the slave battery will be majorly from the panels rather than solely from the battery.

hi, why don't you buy a 12v Dc fan & a GOTV 12v adapter. connect the adapter to output of inverter, then place fan directly blowing into the inverter. that's what I did with the 3kva VIL inverter whose fan only kicks in at 65°c. I connected the above and placed it to blow air into perforated side vents near the inverter transformer. fan only works when inverter is working. the inverter is much cooler now.
OR
most fans in these portable inverters are evacuators not blowers. the fan is not powerful enough to evacuate heat build up hence increase in internal temperature. can you change direction of flow of the fan, so it sucks outside air and blows over internal components rather than evacuate it? Just reverse/flip placement of the fan. ensure some gaps exist in the casing to allow hot air flow through.
Thanks baba.

See ehn, that thing, I was literarily struggling with it for the better part of yesterday. I guess being pressed for time also contributed to the problem. I have only yesterday and today to get things right before I'm off again. Yesterday I burnt off another 12 volt digital temperature controller that I intended to hook up for intelligent control to a cooling 12volt fan for the stuff; connecting it into the light control port of the PWM SCC with the deliberate assumption that it will be 12v output irrespective of it being on a 24v set-up. After the loss, I was forced to do what I should have done earlier by measuring the output at that point on the SCC and alas, it was 29.4volts.

Hating the fact that I'm seriously running out of options, I went back and for like 30 minutes ransacked my storage box and made sure I found those damned buck converters (something I should have done 4 weeks ago that would have probably saved me the loss of the first inverter, two cooling fans and a digital temp controller.

I plan to get an extra conduit box this morning, fix it atop the one embedded in the fence and move the inverter there while leaving the SCC and batteries in their former position embedded in the fence. Then hopefully that new conduit box should provide ample space for even a 14cm by 14cm fan (found one in the storage box).

I noticed that thing about blower vs evacuator fan too and except you mentioned it now, I had thought little about the significance of the positioning. Only problem with this inverter is that the fan's btu is just too small to handle the quick built up of ambient temperature in the hot sun. Some other fans of similar sizes (40mm by 40mm) that I blew up earlier had better performance (those ones that you will hear their decibels at almost a meter away)

I will give your GoTV adapter serious consideration but only on the condition that I can achieve daytime-nightime control of output to the adapter or else I risk adding to the 10w overnight draw (2w gate opener+8w no load inverter draw) and that may deplete the 7ah 24v battery before dawn.

I only hope those local computer accessories shops stock PC fans that I can work with cos I only have one left now, in case it also gets blown grin
