You all had better held ALL the state Governors responsible as well. Or is it a selected campaign? Its the Senators that refused to pass the PIB in the 1st place. They are our real enemies here. Hate me or Love me, SUBSIDY MUST GO! We have been crying out for technocrats and now we have them, only for we not to support them. TECHNOCRATS will always say the truth and take drastic measures to achieve the common good (Remember elrufai and his bulldozers?, Soludo and his recap order?) I pity those in favour of retrogression. The fight should be strictly for enthronment of transparency and not against subsidy removal! |
I foresee a counter-protest for suspension of strike |
I propose that the #occupyNigeria movement be a continous process long after the strike is called off. Rallies may be held simultaneously in different cities at a particular day of the week, say Saturdays. During the rallies, Govt officials must be present to address the crowd and answer questions. TWEET meets between key Govt officials and the masses should take place on designated days too. Topics bothering on national security, health, power, infrastructure and sundry issues will be discussed both physically and online. Any suggestions on how this may be achieved? |
Interesting, FG should not budge yet untill NASS , State govs announce their cost-cutting measures. If they revert now and people relax, it will be back to sleaze as usual. |
Its very true. I live close to the Army Cantonment in Owerri. For the past few days i have been seeing Trailers filled wit northern folks fleeing. Many of them came from Bayelsa and Rivers and took refuge in the Army compound. Yesterday evening, 3 trailers left escorted by soldiers but returned cos fillin stations refused to sell Diesel to them. 3 days ago, a 'convoy' of northerners were blocked at onitsha and they had to turn back to the barracks. Will watch out for them this evening so i can get some pics. E DON RED OOO!! |
The NASS are guilty as hell in all these. Q: WHY HAVE THEY REFUSED TO PASS THE PIB? A: because many have vested interests in the oil sector and are also being heavily bribed by IOC's. Q: WHY ARE THEY SUDDENLY SUPPORTING THE MASSES IN THE REVERSAL OF THE FUEL PRICE? A: To avoid having to cut down on their largesse as the masses are increasingly crying out for. |
Na by force to protest?? Ok, we support the fuel subsidy removal. Are you satisfied now? Do Remember in Imo during the Last elections when the people virually Occupied owerri? Youths slept outside the INEC office till we got what we wanted- a change in governance and a knock-out on corruption. If the protests were strictly against corruption in govt, we would have done the same. But majority of the protesters in sw and north only want the fuel price to be reverted to #65 and THAT IS A RETROGRESSIVE STANCE! |
El-Rufai has no moral grounds to criticise GEJ's approach to subsidy removal. He rendered many families homeless in Abuja in the name of sticking to the Masterplan. - i supported him then. I also support GEJ's radical approach even if many Nigerians (including myself) will feel the pain. Both the power and oil sectors must be deregulated with immediate effect! Its up to us, the general public to fight corruption. Channel the protests to the Local Govt 1st, cos 90% of them dont hav a blueprint. Our state governors and House of assembly members, Senators, Reps, Executive in that order. (By the way, did any of u 'sort' while in school? If yes, you are guilty of the corruption as well) |
The NASS members and govt officials will go back to their normal embezzlement business, marketers will hoard fuel in anticipation of April subsidy removal. The #occupyNigeria movement will then amount to nothing but a conservative, retrogressive hullabaloo if we fail to enthrone transparency in govt. |
A family of three were flying in their private jet. The man discovered that the engine had caught fire and a crash was imminent. He and his wife searched for parachutes and found only two. He took one and gave his wife the other. "What about Junior?", the wife asked. The man replies, "Leave him, we can always have another kid!". He jumped right off the plane. As the wife was about jumping, she saw Junior with another parachute and asked him where he got it from. Junior sobs and replies, "Daddy took my school bag!" |

cantell:I dey tell u, |
Not all Hausa-fulani are Boko Haram members. But every ALMAJIRI is a potential recruit- and they are about 15 million of dem!! |
Very Good. SE folks know what hardship really means. They started life afresh from 20 bucks given to them after the war. The temporary 'hardship' of the subsidy removal is child's play compared to that. March on, compatriots. Nigeria can only move forward by radical policy changes. Meanwhile the protests (against corruption) should also be targetted against ALL NASS members who are only supporting the subsidy replacement to avoid the mass calling for slashing of their entitlements, state govs and house of assembly members whose embezzlement skills are no less legendary, LG chairmen of whom most don't have any developmental blueprint, do-nothing councillors and all past public officials of the past 4 decades who are the major culprits of our infrastructural predicament |
whitehawk:you are a true patriot. This subsidy issue is even threatening my relationship. My Gal is a staunch #occupynigeria activist and im a pro-deregulation supporter. Just hope everything ends well. |
@Manny4life, Thanks for the details. I only read earlier on that ACN governors are backing the masses. Now, i'm enlightened. |
I nearly got e-mobbed in a chat room for supporting deregulation. I support the protests against corruption as well. But the bitter truth has been told and we've all gotta pay (hopefully temporarily) for wasting our opportunities in the 70's through 90's. The protests should not be targetted against GEJ only, but to all LG chairmen (of whom most dont even have a written budget!) , councillors (who only collect salaries), state governors and house of assembly members (who are significantly bloating our budget), Reps, Senators, (who must slash 70% of their income) |
y2kaustin:i saw my former maigard in owerri yesterday, he has totally changed his dressing to camouflage as a southerner. The other northerners are hiding in the army barracks. We are not aggressors but they knew what fate would befall them if they walked freely while d killings ar goin on in d north. P.S. I can bet with my 'last card' that Fashola supports the subsidy removal |
y2kaustin:if we decide to go the 1967 way, are you not gonna fight us again? How will protests solve the Boko Haram menace? The only solution is to pick up arms and wipe those bastards out. |
efisher:seconded!!
PointB:thank God we still have reasonable folks in NL. Ngozi should not give up till she is vindicated at last. (but meanwhile, i would appreciate if Exec and Nass slash their total entitlements by 70%! If GEJ team can achieve that, i would stake my life as a pro-government protester) |
Picture this. You are a law-enforcement agent stationed to protect the state house. Some irate youths who may not even know how to spell 'subsidy' and have no idea of what the protest is about, brandishing sticks and matchetes jump the fence and charge at you. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Drop ur gun and run?? Attack an armed US marine lyk that and see what will hapen! |
goggs:exactly wat im sayin, People need to understand the real meaning of civil disobedience. |
RIP. But some protesters are being overzealous. Why attack traders that decided to open shop? Must everybody join the protest? |
Dont d police have enough rubber bullets to go round? Why using live bullets? |
Patriotic |
Nsiman:Welcome aboard the ship of enlightenment, for we shall sail past the troubled waters and berth at the shore of economic eldorado. |
LeoMax: studyineu:Make una take 2 - 2 bottles 4 my head, Fuel subsidy is dead and gone!! Nigerians should channel the protests to ensuring 50% slash in Nass entitlements and speedy improvement of infrastructure with the money saved! |
As long as they have not talked about slashing their obscene salaries and allowances, they are not yet serious on the debate, The economy is at stake here and nobody is giving alternatives to curtail the budget deficit and sundry economic woes- SLASH YOUR ENTITLEMENTS BY 50%!!! then add the savings from subsidy removal. (my opinion) |
Obamedo:Exactly my point. We should be protesting and pressurising the govt to slash executive and Nass allowances by 70%!!, Then pressurise the govt to utilise the the extra money saved from the slash and subsidy removal to improve power and other infrastructure! Thats the way to move forward. |
They should slash 50% off, Then still remove subsidy, |
