Femmyfamous4u: I kept saying it that all the noise about centenary is sham, wastage of resources, misplaced priority and as a matter of fact, distortion of history. I've been hearing in the media that Nigeria is 100 years old. For God's sake, let's not distort history!! Let it be known to all and sundry that decades ago, countries like cameroun, Benin republic and others were separated from Nigeria and it would be wrong to declare such date as their day of independence as a country since they were still under colonialism.

It was all over the media that FG had budgetted about 74 billion naira to build a centenary city for the celebration. In the face of unemployment, poor power supply and looming insecurity the FG chose to squander such an amount to an event that will add nothing to us as a country.
To me, if the FG wants to celebrate anything other than independence, then, it has to be being a republic.
Exactly my thinking!

That's some experience! I don't think it's got much to do with racism though. I just think it's a case of someone not doing his job well. After you've sorted everything out and you're comfortable, you can make a formal complaint to the management of the place with evidence. This will also help others who'll go there later.
Something important i noted from your story is that you wanted to check into a budget guest house but was expecting top-class treatment. That was a little bit unrealistic on your part too. Just get over the experience, enjoy your stay and come back with good stories 'cause i want to see Elmina soon too.

As I've argued in the past, Awolowo and Mandela are different in their achievements, one is a nation's builder and while the other is a freedom fighter., in fact I will only compare Mandela to Ken Wiwa, not Awo, and not Kwame.

In terms of international recognition, of course, Mandela had to deal with white supremacists which automatically puts him in the watchful eyes of the world, but Awolowo was simply trying to bring civilization to his people which usually doesn't elicit passion or praise from the outside world.

My African heroes are Awolowo, Nkrumah and Mandela in that specific order, but lets not totally forget the struggles of Thomas Sankara
When i saw this i smiled. People tend to forget him when mentioning African greats.

It is no secret that Tecno is NOT in China. I know they make some of their phones in Ethiopia, they make some in China but they definitely don't sell them in China. They sell only in Africa. There are big Chinese brands that partner with GoogleAndroid officially the same way Samsung, HTC, LG etc do. Tecno is known only in Africa.

Please how do you feel about the fact that government is intending to celebrate in 2014, 100 years since the amalgamation of Nigeria (a thing we had little say in) by some British dictator? How do you also feel about the fact that 2013 came and went with little said about celebrating 50 years of our existence as a proud republic?
Business › Re: The Success Of Tecno: A Business Lesson For All by Chartey(m): 2:16pm On Dec 31, 2013
chukxie: Tecno is making a kill in Nigeria more than it's doing in any other African country. I hope the Chinese government realizes the importance Nigeria / Nigerians are making to the development of Tecno as a brand /company!
Well, don't hope too much because Tecno is not even known in China.

greatwaters: Yea, thats true. BTW, have u heard anything about Ilori's internationa future?
That guy doesn't look like someone who wants to play for Nigeria and i don't think he's a player that can make a whole lot of difference at Super Eagles level.

mostly clunky in their style of play... I hope dey improve
My brother, the real problem here is the quality of coaching. MOST of these coaches are clueless and can only talk. They use outdated coaching techniques and don't know a thing about modern football.

Two4Two: Yes it is a business lesson to all of us, but we should not forget the saying NEVER SAY NEVER. They have already studied the characteristic of Nigerian market and discovered that giving us quality products with low price will break even and that's exactly what they did combined with aggressive adverts ( huge capital investments) to endear the hearts of many Nigerians thus making their products house hold names especially among the students. Don't forget the purchase of the right to BBM etc or what do you call it.

Chinese guys sure know how to take over market. I saw them sometime ago in the remotest part of my village, hawking lace materials this also shows the extent they can go to get the market share.
Nna, na wa o. Which rights are you talking about? See as you come comment like person wey sabi wetin im dey talk.

Sports › Argentina Prepares For Nigeria With Ghana Friendly. by Chartey(op): 7:27pm On Dec 30, 2013
Argentina are considering setting
up a friendly game against Ghana
in their build up to the 2014
World Cup to help them face
Nigeria in next year’s
tournament in Brazil.
According to reports from
Argentina, the country’s football
federation have penciled down
Ghana as one of the countries to
play to help them have an idea
about the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The South American team are
pondering over a friendly with
either Ghana or the Ivory Coast on
June 4.
This would enable them sharpen up
for their final group game at the
World Cup against Nigeria.
The Argentinians will face the
Super Eagles for a third time in the
same group after 2002 and 2010.
Ghana on their part have a tough
task to progress out of a group that
comprises Germany, Portugal and
the USA.

ketoprofen: And who told u igbos hardly have Igbo movies?
Are u in the east?
All the cds i bought these last 3 months are of Igbo movies.
Do u think there is any Yoruba movie CD in the east?
Same way easterners are not aware of yoruba movies unless when they flip thru dstv.
Moral: talk only what u can defend.
You honestly know the Igbo movie industry(if there's anything like that) isn't comparable to the Hausa and Yoruba movie industries in size at all.

I learnt that in my time, so what does that make u sound like?
Which univ in Yoruba is named after a Yoruba word?
Trash
Studying a Nigerian language is not COMPULSORY for all students in any university at any level right now. Stop lying.

Education › Re: Gregory University, Abia To Make Igbo Language A Compulsory Course by Chartey(m): 11:48am On Dec 30, 2013
TribalEAST: igbo musicians still sing a lot in yoruba language neglecting theirs e.g don jazzy, dr sid, d prince, chidinma etc.

Yoruba is very easy to understand such dat if parents dont speak it to their children, the streets will in terms of music and movies. Igbos hardly have igbo movies.

Yoruba language has even mixed with english and pidgin english in nigeria. Words like jo (joor), jare, oya, lepa, o(i give am o!), soji, gbajue, nogere, komole, suwegbe etc are constantly used by all tribes.
True! But I'm more concerned about either the hypocrisy or clueless-ness of these people. They complain they want to promote the Igbo language through this university but the very name of this university is European. Can you imagine this in Yorubaland. If it's in Yorubaland, the school will have a proper Yoruba name and the school will gain popularity in no time. All in all, i think making learning of Igbo compulsory at pre-degree and 100 levels isn't a bad idea.
Education › Re: Gregory University, Abia To Make Igbo Language A Compulsory Course by Chartey(m): 8:53am On Dec 30, 2013
Xtfield: I have always admired the Igbo people. Unlike my Yoruba people, Igbos are very good at passing on their language and traditions to their children wherever they live. Hardly can you see an Igbo child who will not understand and speak the language at age 6. Not like the Yorubas who view speaking Yoruba as a sign of backwardness. We sure have a lot to learn from the Igbos on this and other issues.
Everything you've said is just the other way round. In fact, some few years back Igbo musicians had to incorporate yoruba into their music to sell. People like Ruggedman, African China and Dj Zeez couldn't even identify with their Igbo heritage boldly.

To the topic, these people should have started with giving the school a very fine Igbo name. I have a feeling they think the school won't be attractive to even Igbo people when it has an Igbo name.

ussy360: tnks broda...Wat abt job opportunity huh
You see, this is a question that has no straight answer. Your course shouldn't determine your job. A first degree is just a first degree and nothing more. I believe there are lots of opportunities in both fields although most people think it's just lecturing. I am no authority in any of the two so don't take my word for it. What you need to do is get close to people who've gone far in either fields beyond the B.Sc and who also love what they're doing. They will advise you well and even mentor you. That way you'll have a clear-cut idea of the path you want to take when you graduate. Hope you'll get something little from this?

Can't remember the last time something like this happened in Kaduna yet people will open their big mouths and say "the north is not safe".
Moral: Everywhere has it's security challenges. The indigenes and non-indigenes live in all those places. There are people in even Iraq and Afghanistan who've never witnessed any form of violence. So when you try to make it seem any place has a monopoly of violence, you only show your ignorance.
