snydergp My dear, its not just we Africans who do such things even NATO did it especially the French Airforce also fired missiles at innocent people at a funeral in Libya. U.S forces do this dailly in Afghanistan with there drones yet no one reports on this only Al Jazeera does. Don't believe in the Hype all humans african, arab and european are capable of such acts. If the Isreali army kills 11 children tommorow believe me the story will only be known 2weeks from now and then those Holy Jews will claim selfdefense.@^^ I am not talking about the "big" events like warfare etc. The actions of those you mentioned above are not exactly similar in its import for us as Africans. The drones/bombs are directed to some " impersonal foreigners who you do not have any emotional connection with whatsoever hence there is no "obligation" to care nor expect any high minded contrition or acknowledgment of some wrong doing. It is in the nature of warfare between "foreign" people anywhere. The mindset and outcome is the same everywhere. This is not about who reports what or who is not . African conflicts like in Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Rwanda, DRC Congo, Libya, Mali & et al are all internal fratricidal wars hence extremely painful and damaging to citizens of such places. The wounds take forever to heal unlike if your enemy was some overseas foreigner/enemy. Americans and the Vietnamese have "kissed" and made up and perhaps earned mutual respect from such war experiences. It rarely happens in internal so called brotherly wars hence I worry about our general behaviour towards each other as individuals/society.I sincerely worry about our actual perceptions/ behaviour towards each other as individuals and as groups too. Do you not think that we have some unwholesome attitudes towards each other which some of us even refer to as "tribalism" "prejudice" etc? I'll hazard a guess that our attitudes towards corrosive corruption is informed by some of our negative perception of what is right or wrong because we do not demonstrate a little sensitivity/care. We cannot deny that we have a whole lot of unfinished business amongst us which makes it even far more dangerous to our selves/existence as a people. It is what informs bad decisions in our governments not being able to do the right thing for society instead of personal/ self and genocidal tendencies/ actions within our various countries. |
Sagamite If we had been doing that to our murderous almajiri grads up North, maybe we would not have the seasonal murderfest they enjoy so much.@^^ The Almajiri are not murderous per se but perhaps some ex- Almajiri grads as you put it are murderers/criminals and have become easy recruits to the BH(quasi-islamic liberation) cause. Sincerely , I worry more about our inept and lazy government(states and central) who have inadvertently managed to encourage their development/murderous growth in our midst in the North especially. I put it down to the fact that "we rip what we sow". "The chicken has come home to roust". Various regimes in Nigeria have been wicked and deliberately neglectful of their responsibilities towards the people under their "rule"/administration. It is only a matter of time the oppressed will return to haunt everyone innocent or not. Nature does not allow vacuum . |
Sagamite If they did not give the police the excuse or reason to be prosecutors, magistrates, judges and jailers I would not support the police if they shot them. But they did and I am happy they did.@^^There is such thing as "intelligent/Smart" policing tactics. Somehow, the SA police culture like their American counterparts believe in "Rambo" "muscular" style policing inherited from their very recent ugly/sad past. What stops the police from defusing an already tense situation by making a tactical retreat a few metres back instead of the usual show of "who has the biggest gun/"ammo" in the field. Retreat/temporary/tactical withdrawal is no weakness but strength of character/intelligence on the part of a good commander/officer in a no win situation. The goal is to minimise the dangers and loss of innocent lives. It is not about a boyish 'Ramboesque' solutions where everything "scatter" .The so called useless ones in "societies" actually serve their purpose in keeping loads of so called "useful" ones in work/jobs too . |
Sagamite They murdered 10 people like savages because they wanted higher pay.@^^ Every loss of life is a stain on our collective being/psyche. I have always worried about us(Africans), especially about "what we do and how we treat each other as fellow human beings. Believe me, my fears about us is borne out of my Naija domain and observation of other places in the continent too. Sometimes, I wonder when we are going to be "sensitive", humane and mindful of how we behave towards each other as Africans, as individuals/government officials(private/public) everywhere especially in our immediate domains . |
Sagamite I believe in vengeance and I am a strong advocate of vengeance.@^^ Sagamite Do you remember our conversation about our trigger happy murderous Naija policemen? You know my stance on that . No surprises .As for your second point about "People should get the right punishment and response for their actions" -- Since when did the police become prosecutors, magistrates, judges and jailers or in this case "licensed" "murderers"? I quite understand their "espirit de corps", seething anger for their dead comrades in arms but that does not excuse "murder"and even worse "Vengeance" by any arm of the government. South Africa is reputed to have one of the most comprehensive liberal laws in the world so why did both sides not excise patience for further dialogue. Anyway, that's SA where old habits of "brutish" quick fix methods of yesteryears have "worked" for them. Life has always been very cheap in SA so perhaps loosing a number of semi-illiterate miners is no biggie. Shocking!! My father I think should be "bright" enough to remember our recent history of "institutionlised" violence and wickedness so perhaps he'll "chicken" out and not be present at such very tense gathering . I sincerely find it surprising that there are some South Africans who have forgotten their "history" so soon, that they are even forgetful of the inherent pervasive cruelty, wickedness and violence in their society. The people are mindless in their gratuitous violent tendencies just like some ghetto Americans. It is sad really. |
Sagamite If they are so dumb to be used like that to kill innocent people and distabilise society then they deserve to be taken out.@^^ Hi Sagamite, how Na? Do you sincerely believe that the "miners are exactly that bright let alone articulate enough to fathom the enormity/consequences of their would be action by wielding "low tech" weapons. Somehow they forgot the memory of their "recent" history as South Africans. History/memory always rewards those with a good grasp of it. The SA police have always acted like their Nigerian counterparts as "renegades" whether they are right or wrong does not matter. Believe me, the truth of the events are already lost on the people. What is left now is basically recriminations, silly committees, lies, and half truths etc. We'll never know. The truth always is in-between . |
RSA I must admit that South Africans are a very violent nation, although we never really have a real civil war,but we only solve our problems through violence, just look at the police reaction to this incident, xenophobic attacks, goverment services protests, labour strikes and other protests are all violent. We burn clinics, local goverments offices, mayor's houses when we protest.@^^ Thank you RSA. I've said it severally on NL and in private conversations that SA is a "damaged" society and there is so much unfinished business everywhere in Africa. It'll take many decades if not hundreds of years to wean them(SA) of the above violent "psychic" disorder. Old habits die hard. It does not matter who's right or wrong in this case. From the responses so far, I can deduce that we have all been inured to violence and ugliness that nothing shocks us anymore especially Nigerians. It is a shame that the many decades of military rule and the accompanying brutish behaviour, generally have sensitised and cowered everyone so much so that even under so called "democratic" dispensation, we still exhibit and clamour for more "authoritarian" military era methods of policing our numerous crises(police check points) et al, numerous uniformed(police) body guards for all manner of persons- from politicians to business men/women etc. Presently, our so called soldiers(JTF) are treacherously committing genocide in Bornu state(NE Nigeria) in the guise of chasing after Boko Haram(BH). A part of me somehow, may think that they deserved the "death wish" but what does that make us as so called " intelligent" "humane" humans beings? We should all be careful for what we wish for others because of their "temporary" madness if we may describe the "strikers" and "police" vengefulness as so called "right" or appropriate response because two or three of their men have been killed. I thought that Law enforcement must not be motivated by vengeance and excessive show of brute "power". I know this because Nigeria has become a highly militarised/violent/aggressive environment albeit low intensity of course in some areas not quite like SA where violence is literally/psychically institutionalised. We are all diminished as human beings by the ugly scenes of the massacre and it damages our collective psyche as a people. I sincerely send my condolences to those on either side of the "craziness" and wish you well too. I am ashamed as an African. |
violent Shouldn't we all be going out with machetes and demanding for the heads of our senators and representatives on a sacrificial calabash? nothing else should compensate for this daylight robbery of the Nigerian people and selfish allocation of wealth in a country dangerously populated with young restless jobless population.@^^ I agree with your sentiments . Seriously, do you not think that it is about time we started collecting/collating names and addresses of everybody/relatives in power in Nigeria/abroad.- children, wife(ves), relatives, girlfriends/boyfriends, business associates especially their asian collaborators?. Sincerely, it has to be "bloody" without qualms/sentiments else we'll remain the same- regressing backwards into oblivion. The BH has shown us the way albeit not quite progressive but we have to be methodical and clinical about it. No politician nor even some of our so called business persons will be spared the potential anarchy/fire next time . The time for "pseudo-intellectualism" is fast coming to an end. BH has actually drawn the iine on the sand. We either do the right thing or die not trying at all. Sentiments are over. |
Rhino.5dm Below is the letter from Ojukwu displaying his love for south west. Read and tell why should any sane person support these greedy fools.@^^ I think the above was very clear in its intention/responsibility. I do not see any intention to "occupy" or behave like a potential "conquerer"/"conquistador" by Biafra(Ojukwu). Besides, Biafra had the "soldiers" and "guns" albeit not grande by quantity/quality but they were willing to give their meagre support to the West(Yoruba Land" if they so wish/desire to effect the break away from Nigeria. I did not see any overt desire to dominate/occupy the West but mere desire to Aid the consolidation of a liberated zone in the West perhaps under Banjo . Also if Biafran lives are going to be made available for the enterprise, it is only right that they have some modicum of control over their personnel/officers in a foreign land they are aiding to liberate. Do the American forces in foreign lands relinquish authority over their soldiers/personnel to others(foreign) commanders? Definitely not!. They are not even allowed to be tried/imprisoned by foreigners anywhere. Bros, there was never any such intention by Ojukwu to "humiliate" or "conquer" the West. He has made that clear in his numerous statements/interviews and actions as per your post above^. Please do not fall for ethnocentric propaganda just because things did not turn out attractive later. That's the nature of our Naija today. Some of our elders/elites have truly failed us and it takes courage to disown some of them too. I do not take Fani-Kayode that seriously anyway. Nigerians love catchy headlines by our so called "elites". It is not a big deal. |
Yeske! In case you have problems with comprehension, what the northern elder meant was that since the SW didn't want to join in the war against Biafra, the SW MUST provide a one mile corridor to the sea(of course your dull should tell you that is an occupation of the SW) and instead of Awo calling their bluffs, he acceded to their demand....joining in the war.@ The military are in power and in charge of NIGERIA during that period. Why would they seek permission/access to the sea/ports? They are in charge already!. Awo is not a soldier but a "bloody" civilian so please let it it rest. It is not within his remit/powers whatsoever to call anybody's bluffs as you put it. Please think of something else to say . |
Katsumoto Shut the Bleep up dunce, why should Awo support Ojukwu? Was Awo an Igbo man? On what basis should Awo have supported Ojukwu?@^^ Gbam!!! I've always wondered about such "dependency" syndrome. Where is it from . It is truly annoying indeed. |
Katsumoto Seriously, when will these Biafrans raise their game?@^^ Since when did NL "biafrans" become "Biafrans" . Do you sincerely take them seriously ? |
Onlytruth The 3rd Marine co was handed over and COMMANDED (for show of unity by the rest of Nigeria against Biafra) by the Yoruba sons, just to command. Nothing more.@^^ That's the absolute truth. Fani-Kayode is trying to be smart and not being clever. There are many living witnesses to the invading soldiers. Adekunle was not in charge of Midwest sector as such. I wonder why he'll spoil his original line of thought about the "subterfuge" of the north against the West only to subvert the "truth" with a bare faced lie about the make up of soldiers in the Midwest sector. Was there really a "war" in Ore or the Western flank as such? Banjo only tried to "negotiate" because Biafra(Ojukwu's) instruction then was that the West is not an enemy nor to be perceived as a conquered territory hence they stopped at Ore instead of driving straight to Lagos. Believe me there was never a serious resistance on the way to Lagos as such because Nigeria was taken unawares on that day(NIGHT). Never mind Propagandists/revisionists who know nothing about the actual events. Why would Banjo be negotiating for a safe passage if not to demonstrate the good faith of the Biafrans that they came in peace and respect not as conquistadors/occupiers. I'll rather people focus their attention on preparing for internal strength/cohesion in our backyard than dwelling on finger pointing over spilt milk. History rewards the researcher and those who know how to interpret events correctly. Sincerely, Awo is not the problem as such. He was a mere victim of the circumstance. There were others who aided the decisions of the said period. "Elites" everywhere can be very deceitful and damaging to their own people and the Nigerian variant are absolutely despicable indeed. Fani-Kayode is only trying to be relevant and ever present in our consciousness by his almost frequent/intermittent "outbursts" just like the "delinquent" Dokubo of the South South. Nigeria is a theatre where everybody is basically an "actor/ess" trying too hard to make a mark on our "dumb" false consciousness because there is nothing actually happening in Nigeria other than "Thiefry" and Lies and violence. Everybody is trying to rip-off the other even on "factual" historical matters too. We are definitely in a sorry state as a people. The sad thing is most so called Nigerians are not discerning enough to analyse/see through things without sentiments because we are self absorbed in our ethnocentric(tribe) consciousness 24/7 to the detriment of "good" education or knowledge of things as they are around us. The West as at that period did not possess enough indigenous(Yoruba) soldiers as to be able to push the Biafrans back across the Niger. The West under Gowon was like an occupied territory by Nigerian(northern) troops. The reality must have dawned on Awo and he is certainly not a dumb politician like Fani-Kayode is implying by saying that he was sold a dummy(President) by the North. It is military regime we are talking about with absolute power and an Awo or any "bloody" civilian is nothing but an accessory for their mission/goal of " keeping Nigeria One is a task that must be Done". Awo or any other civilian then do not have any leverage whatsoever. Trust me on that . Igbos should not focus on him too much. |
ndu_chucks It is too difficult to workout sharing formulas for ports, off shore resources, and other national assets, to make any kind of peaceful split work. So, nwanne OP, your question is hereby rendered INVALID.@^^What's so difficult in determining where ports and off shore resources belong? Why will I want to argue/fight over oil/mineral resources in Lake Chad area with a Kanuri/Rep. of Bornu? It'll be foolhardy and greedy of me to be covetous of something that's far away from my territory and against all "natural" laws and "common" sense. Believe me there will not be any war as some NLs presume/preclude. Who will be fighting who? What will be the war aim? Is it to force or enforce a "marriage" or "union" with an unwilling partner? I think we are being lazy and disingenuous in spreading disinformation/fear. Where are the soldiers, weapons, and etc going to come from to prosecute a full scale war? Nobody has a monopoly of terror if it comes down to it. Seriously, I'll like a thriving, viable and strong Nigeria as a black man but somehow, I doubt it, that I'll ever see that materialise in my life time as things are now . It is as if we are purposefully disinterested in "Progress" or a thriving, empowered, free society of black men/women. What are the so called national assets that are so important that solutions cannot be found? |
1k001 Again another who has fallen into the trap of referring to a race as inherently corrupt and mindless. I take it then that you are just as corrupt as Ibori seeing as you both have the same skin colour and hail from Nigeria (assuming of course that you are a Nigerian)@^^ Nigeria is not really a nation compared to India and Pakistan. Nigeria does not have a national cultural identity let alone a national philosophical identity which can be ascribed to the people. We are all "lone rangers" hence the perenial national malaise etc. India on the other hand has an identifiable national identity/culture etc which we can say is Indian despite the multiplicity of various ethnicities within the territory just like Naija. They have managed to forge a national language/philosophy/culture etc. We are not yet a 'nation' in Nigeria so anyone ascribing any negative epithet to me as a Nigerian is a waste of time. It only assuages the person's hang-ups/ inherent prejudice which I have no control over let alone give a damn for. Without sounding PC(political correctness), seriously, can you not identify national characteristics/traits/attitudes? Can you not say things definitively about Americans, British, French, Arab(s)(Saudi),etc?. I sincerely, appreciate and respect your opinion on this subject of (PC) and prejudice etc but much of prejudice are to some extent based on certain "objective" realities/'knowledge'. Can we help it? Yes! we can sometimes. My opinion is based on certain philosophical/cultural realities of the people(India and Pakistan). Culture and national philosophy defines a people not just 'PC'. It may not sound wholesome or ok hence the reticence because we are afraid that somebody else may call us names too in return. Ibori is as far away from my personal values but I take solace in the knowledge that he does not represent my values- personal or even "national" as we do not exactly have a nation as things are presently whether we like it or not. India is a nation so when I talk about a former citizen of India like Fareed, I am making a judgement based on his nationa/culture. It is not pretty or attractive though. It is what it is. I apologise if I have offended some sensibilities. I do not do "PC" most of the times. Sorry ooo. |
wesley80 But what you must realize is that people don't tune in to watch his programmes cos he's got a Phd from Havard but because he delivers and analyses the news better than most while managing to criticize govts in a most pleasant and constructive manner that leaves you nodding in agreement. Like noted in the link above, there are a number of excuses he could have given that would be considered tenable but he hasn't done so, rather he's chosen to accept full responsibility and take the fall. I hope he bounces back soon.@^^ You are right. I hope he bounces back too. It is the inherent hazard of the job and the nature of the American close "scrutiny" market place/culture . I hope that you realised that I never said anywhere in my posts that he's "unintelligent" . I do not talk like that . |
iragbijile Now I understand why you think he is intelligent . . .@^^ . |
Ajanlekoko A lot of Nigerians are even beginning to hold them up as a standard@^^ Our power "elite" in Nigeria certainly do hold them as a standard hence their closest allies in "business" - lootocracy are Indians and Pakistanis. Ibori's closest adviser(lawyer) Indian actually was imprisoned too in the U.K. like him. It is sad that we do not really know the kind of people we are associating with let alone getting into "bed" with as business partners etc. They are inherently corrupt and mindless. No doubt that they are "academically" bright but that is all there is to it . Creativity is something else. |
Oyb please reserve your incoherence for the defense of gej@^^ Damn!! . You harsh ooo . On point! |
esere826 I dont always agree with him, but do you know how tough it is to be able to weave an almost seamless narrative around geo-economical and social facts?@^^ Bros, if you are well travelled especially if you are originally from the so called third world, educated properly in the liberal arts et al, have the resources of good institutions around you such as Time/Newsweek, good hype around you and access, believe me you'll also do well if you are articulate enough . He is certainly bright but not exceptional than any one on NL. I can name a few at the top of my head . |
betrani PhysicsQED I posted a another link in the second post in this thread to a different article that goes into more detail (with more instances) of the plagiarism from Fareed Zakaria. Read it and you'll probably understand the situation a little better.@^^ Thanks for helping me out . Talk about jumping into conclusion without actually/clearly understanding the essence of the topic . We are ever so much in a hurry and "I too know" or "playing smart and not being clever"/Bob Marley . |
Jarus Honourable he accepted the slip and apologized.@^^ He had no choice but apologise or else face law suits etc. It is the easiest/cheapest way out of the mess. It is not Naija . The consequence for such misdeed is grave in the developed world especially U.S.A.. |
afib4all am sure u've not been watching is programme, the guy is gud, know doubt about it but no1 is perfect@^^ Where in my post did I say he was not good/bad? Obviously I've not been watching his programme avidly like you do . It is clear to me that you did not get the drift of my post. It appears to me only Ajanlekoko et al got the drift. Sorry ooo . |
betrani this is hw most of u run to conclusions! Do u ever weigh issues before u venture into exposing ur illiteracy? Everybody plagiarize but hw well u do it is what makes u good! The originator of the text I read there wasn't lephoar either her's is different because no one ever got his or her hand on the original text!@^^ I suppose you are very literate/intelligent hence you wrote the above highlighted ^ . You are truly hilarious . Never mind, someday you'll understand the drift of what I wrote as Ajanlekoko certainly does. I am indifferent to Fareed et al. Why would I need a Fareed to "interpret"/"analyse" the world for me? Please try to be a "free" thinker and not "follow- follow". If you have a genuine need to understand the world around you, try to incorporate other "sources" too in your daily diet of "information/ analysis" by other "interpreters" not just those you already revere hence the hostility against my opinion . Did you not read the part where I mentioned Nigerians(lack of originality/creativity) too? . Did you miss it? Clearly you do not understand the drift of my post. Sorry oo . |
*Ileke-Idi lol @ ppl taking the NL virgin seriously.@^^ . You are something else ![]() |
ogugua88 I don't plan on marrying. So kids with my boyfriend is heaven to me. Amen. Say another prayer for me o. I'm feeling lucky.@^^ You are blessed already with your attitude and graciousness . |
esere826 Highly intelligent chap, how could he make such a slip?@^^ How do you adjudge him being "highly intelligent" chap? Everyday is for the thief but someday he/she will be exposed. He's Indian by birth so nothing surprises me-" the End justifies the means". That is their inherent philosophy to life and to everything else. Corruption is never far from their backyard. It can be attributed to some character flaw if we look at it holistically - his roots . I am not easily impressed by some pseudo-intellectual American wannabe Indian. He is certainly not the first nor the last. There is more in the pipe line from where he comes from. Academic qualifications for them is the easiest path/part to get into the "act" just like Nigerians excelling in academia too(qualifications) without originality/creativity either. |
PhysicsQED If this isn't carried out, Nigeria can still survive, but whether it will thrive and prosper is another matter.@^^ The above question/doubt is something every so called Nigerian must seriously "Contemplate" on or else we'll continue bumbling and muddling along like a motherless child without direction . It is frightening and sad indeed. I am tired of hearing the oft touted "Nigerian Potential" by friends and foes of Nigeria because of our so called "size" and human/economic "resources". I wonder when are we going to get our act together? It is obvious that "chaotic" Nigeria is certainly attractive/profitable/desireable for the "power elite" as it is now. |
