Busy_body Wow, have always wondered about their blatant and in bad taste me, me, me and mine attitude, many thanks for this eye-opening final piece in the jigsaw puzzle.@^^ Thank you . You may also recall that when Mrs Dora Akunyili was at NAFDAC, she visited India to confront the manufacturers of the fake/sub-standard drugs, also met the Indian government officials too. The telling thing about the tour, it was on BBC and CNN. The Indians did not show any remorse but rather bemused about the whole contact. Did the Indian government do anything drastic about our complaints- Crooked manufacturers potentially damaging the national image in the eyes of Africans(Nigerians)? It was not taken seriously but treated with levity and contempt quite unlike how the Chinese dealt with the sub-standard milk powder issue and drugs. The Chinese were swift in their action against the milk manufacturers. If I remember clearly, the manager was sentenced to death or long term imprisonment for damaging business and national image. China may not be perfect either but they take such matters relating to corruption very seriously if caught quite unlike the Indians, where such matters are a permanent feature/attribute of their politicians/government officials just like Nigeria. Please watch Indian tv news or read their national dailies you,ll get a broader view of the people and their character/aspirations. |
cap28 i remember when an arnold schwazzeneger film about a terrorist attack on america had to be postponed because it was to premiere on Sept 15 2001 - 4 days after 911. Of course such conventions do not apply in nigeria where making money is more important than human lives.@^^ The premiere is not in Nigeria and such conventions do not apply this time, considering the fact that 3days of mourning has been observed/declared by Lucky Joe for Nigerians worldwide. Schwazzeneger has the clout/bargaining power to cancel/postpone a premiere but I doubt if the Nigerian film makers have the financial muscle to do the same in U.K. considering the contracts already signed about the venue, tickets, hotels etc. The producer/director of the film is a Nigerian, so I believe that he's very much aware and sensitive to the crash/coincidence. Also, most of the UK punters were adamant that the show must go on as per phone-ins to BENtv with Obi Emelionye present dialoging/seeking their views whether to cancel/postpone the premiere. It's very much out of his hands/control. Please be a little charitable to his judgement. It is beyond mere making money. Besides, many atrocious deaths occur on our roads daily even on the said day of the plane crash apart from the war going on all over the place in Nigeria. Do their lives not matter too? Flags and 3days mourning are never lowered/declared for ordinary mortals who die on our roads daily or victims of Boko Haram in the country. Nigerians are more likely to die on their roads according to UN reports sadly. Sensitivity about deaths of Nigerians within and outside of the country is not exactly a national attribute of ours especially by the government, never mind the 3days mourning declaration by Lucky Joe and his cohorts seeking an excuse to have an undeserved break from numerous scandals bedevilling them. Cynicism and contempt of fellow citizens by the pseudo-elite is the norm. |
HNosegbe Goodluck Jonathan is the President today but he is not going to stay more than eight years. Nigeria belongs to all of us and not for one person.@^^ Are we not in a "democracy"? Why is Gulak precluding the results of future "democratic" elections(2015) . |
texazzpete So nobody is complaining about this movie (about imminent plane crash) being "too soon" after the Dana Crash.... If na sanusi matter you no go let us hear word.@^^ It's unfortunate and Uncanny coincidence. Contracts have been signed long before the "Dana Air disaster". I don't think they have the kind of clout to cancel/renege on the already signed contracts pertaining to the venue, air tickets ,hotels and etc. Besides, Omosexy and majority of the U.K. punters, insisted that the premier must go ahead despite the unfortunate "Dana" crash. Her husband is a pilot so it's almost close to home for her. Life and show must continue anyway . The losses could cripple the "film" maker(s) as per reasons above if they did otherwise. |
cap28 nigerians love copying european fashion - but they forget that those clothes are designed by europeans for europeans with european body shape, take a look at all of the over weight women wearing clinging dresses that only accentuate their bulging stomachs and sagging arms and legs. If these women were to wear traditional african clothing they would look much more elegant as it would cover up all of the nasty flabby flesh on display here.@^^ Gbam+1000. Only Sasha looked reasonably cool compared to the rest wannabes. The men looked silly/ childish compared to the women. |
cindyrella see as nija celebs dey fall our hand@^^ Gbam +1000. Na waooo . I fear o |
MsDarkSkin It happens all the time.@^^ Hi Sis I hope that you haven't become "hard" like them yardie gals . You are too cute/ soft looking for the stuff above . |
ogbeche77 However, spokesman of Delta Football Association Timi Ibikagbaro ,@ ^^ that's the mind set of a wretched person from the South of Nigeria especially the Niger Delta area . Is [b]showing off not a Nigerian trait? Is it illegal? Timi Ibikagbaro is certainly envious and jealous hence his detailed outburst. I blame Obodo for venturing into the envious good for nothing area where corruption and bad bele is as natural to the people as hooliganism/thiefry. |
andrewza But even so brazil is richer than most african countries same for india. Both nation slums are large than any thing you can imagine. But the nations (not the people per say) are rich.@^^ According to you they are rich nations but the people are not. So what's the point of coming from a so called very rich nation if the majority of the people are very poor ? Are you not contradicting yourself? That's certainly the mind set of an "apartheid" "successful" economy by "winners" who are on the other side of the fence. I do understand you. It's very difficult to eschew or banish such an age old mind set. It will take generations if not hundreds of years to eradicate. The mind set of the oppressed(slave) and the oppressor(master) are damaged and warped hence it is usually very difficult to reconcile both sides in the short term. That's partly the reason RSA is very restive and mindless crimes are pervasive. You obviously have a "good" heart but it's very difficult for you to empathise nor fully understand the enormity of the problems on our doorstep. it is not your fault. You are only human. De klerk finds it difficult too just like Malema will never be able to empathise with the White folks. Liberation fighters rarely make "fantastic" leadership, nevertheless, it does not mean their message is not on point or hearts are not in the right place at least for sometime . Mugabe is human and not perfect but struggle and oppression have shaped his world view/instincts given his age, quite unlike the very young Africans who probably never saw direct "colonial" UDI era oppression let alone participate in the war of liberation. Most of us especially most Nigerians and the rest of so called independent Africa will never understand/empathise with him because of general misinformation pervasive in our environment-(education) is no longer what it should be. We cannot deny the fact that he was good for most of his early years in power and to a large extent now . The MDC leadership are not exactly competent and savvy enough to take power. They are just like most inept African opposition parties seeking power in various parts of Africa including Nigeria, Liberia, Uganda, DRC Congo, Sudan(north&south), Angola and RSA. Africa is a very difficult political terrain. Our problems are not insurmountable if we change our personal values/attitudes and bad habits too . |
dasparrow When it comes to being tribalistic, sexist, hateful etc, we are quick to flex muscles and excel. However, when it comes to standing up for our rights and demanding good leadership from our elected officials, we scamper. And then we wonder why our country is so messed up.@^^ Well, that's the sorry state of affairs in the so called country(Nigeria). It's very despicable and horrible indeed. |
@Op The Vaswanis have been in shady business deals for too long from their late father to the so called Vaswani brothers. They have pocketed our so called power elite from Obj to the present regime. The Indians are laughing at Nigerians for they actually have more influence over our elite than we know. Our people are cheap and gullible. For a few dollars/pounds any of our power elite can be bought. The Indians and Pakistani are the conduit through which much of our national wealth is transferred overseas by looters of our treasury- eg Dubai, London, RSA and India. Their involvement with our so called power elite predates Lucky Joe. |
justwise i'm supposed to encourage you to go and read Lancaster House Agreement with open mind and stop referring me to something you know little about.@^^ . I will not indulge you nor give my identity away on this forum about what I know, since you have already assumed that I know nothing about the Lancaster House Agreement. Ok Mr know it all and open mind so be it . |
andrewza Another crack point.@^^ The highlighted - Do you sincerely believe what you wrote above? Have you actually visited any of the countries you glibly mentioned above? Let me help you a little bit- Brazil is basically an European country just like old apartheid South Africa planted in the jungle of South America with a very large pool of "quasi slaves" Africans/blacks as cheap labour since slavery days. Nothing has changed for a majority of poor Brazilians who are not of European stock. Was apartheid South Africa any different? I am surprised that you even mentioned India and Philippines. Please enumerate how these countries are inherently better than African countries perhaps in the art of corruption and general poverty which both countries have in greater numbers than any African country. Please try to travel and stop swallowing every misinformation you hear on CNN, Fox News, and BBC et al. I write from first hand experience not from story books or pseudo-News networks. Also I don't do blaming the West or Europeans/Foreigners for our/my problems whatsoever. I know that we are at "WAR" or in "Competition" so I am not foolish to assume that your kith and kin will ever wish me well. I have perished/expunged that kind of thought from my system long time ago . I do not even believe in the acceptance of so called "AID" let alone advice from "enemies" . |
justwise The west is NOT our problem, some African leaders if not all are far too corrupt, wicked and only care about their private bank accounts.@^^ You may be right on the above statement but how many so called countries in Africa are truly "nations" after the demise of colonialism? Again, we have unfinished business. We are putting the cart before the horses. We assume that just because some "buffoons" have usurped power with their cohorts in tow, all will be well with us in Africa far from it. We have not built any "nation" beyond our ethnic nationalities hence corruption and ineptitude will reign supreme everywhere. I don't do blame the West or foreigners either . |
justwise South Africa went about their land-redistribution peacefully and with the interest of economy at heart hence the healthy state of their economy now.@^^ where do you get your South African "land-redistribution peacefully" facts from? Have the full and complete "land redistribution" taken place in South Africa? Why do you think there is so much restiveness in South Africa but for Mandela's presence/intervention the place could have blown up. There are so much unfinished business in Africa especially in South Africa. Please do not mistake the relative "peace" as something to be proud of nor to rejoice in. Find out from the knowledgeable (Africans) indigenes, how they feel about the whole charade. Nigerians will never understand the impact of "apartheid" on the people hence they think about South Africa and the rest of Africa the way they do. Nigerians are inherently lazy, lacking in knowledge(politically) about other parts of Africa. Please, read up on the Lancaster House Agreement on Zimbabwe before making uninformed decision about Mugabe. Nigeria is no better either. South African economy has always been "healthy" since apartheid era so do not be fooled. Ask the Africans the owners of the land if the economy is "healthy" for them. |
Sagamite Women tend to be focused on and are attracted to a man's control/access/ownership of resources (e.g. money, connections, fame etc), his attentiveness to them and his physical attractiveness.@^^ You are truly a dangerous man to women . Is there no trick(s) in the book of "womanology" that you do not know ? Certainly, you cannot be fooled by their pseudo wiles and guiles(tricks) . Did you grow up amongst women? It will be difficult for you to easily "fall in love" . You should consider writing a 'guide' book for "gullible" men folk especially naija men who seem to be easily dazzled by the opposite sex. I share your viewpoint. |
igbo2011 It is a damn shame. Jews get reparations blacks don't. Did you know that during slavery white slave masters received reperations blacks didn't get their 40 acres and a mule. Every ethnicity recieved their reparations but blacks. Japanese for the nuke and concentration camps.@^^ What does it matter that "blacks"/Africans did not get reparations or 40 acres and a mule? You have to keep in mind that "blacks" were considered sub-human or property so "rightly" in their(whites) own infinite wisdom, believe that they should be compensated instead of "rewarding" non persons or "subhumans). With the above mind-set, how do you think that they'll ever apologise let alone consider "payments" to you/Africans?. It does not make sense to them. The other races got compensation and apologies because somehow they have "earned" it and they are considered fully as "human beings". Africans in contemporary times, have not demonstrated/acted in ways that engender positive acknowledgement and recognition as full human beings because of our collective actions/inactions in our own domains anywhere in the planet hence I said that the rest have "earned" respect or grudging positive acknowledgement by our detractors. If we clean up our acts and do the right things as "normal" human beings, instead of prioritising the renaming of universities, as issues of life and death like in our domain(Nigeria), as the most important issue of the land, then we deserve contempt and not to be taken seriously by purposeful positive action peoples of the world especially by our natural detractors. |
texazzpete Adamawa State is named after Adama. Why the heck does GEJ now feel he needs to rename the Yola University again?@ GEJ has no sense of history nor is he a "thinker". Sincerely, he has demonstrated that he is small minded and idle but certainly not a fool . It is a shame that he is on course to waste the south south "opportunity" at the Presidency. Foolishness knows no bounds indeed. |
buzugee pardon my ignorance and i am on no ones side but is anyone forcing you guys to patronize the indians in nigeria ? are there no alternatives ? and somehow i get the feeling that if you all are not struggling to catch up with the joneses and to keep up appearance and to feelamong, you would not patronize any of these people. and i dont mean to sound anti-nigerian but you nigerians are the most annoying and materialistic people alive. so i can see why despite all the insults you supposedly recieve from these indians you still patronize them. this is because your desire to 'shine' far supersedes your self respect and dignity. i have seen nigerians in nigeria with 5 blackberry phones. why do you need 5 blackberry phones ? and why do you always put your mobile phones and car keys on the table anywhere you go ? see all these things you 'shine' with you have to get from indians and chinese so i can see why you dont mind bypassing the insults so you can get your shine on.@ Gbam! +1000 on point. |
shymmex The inferiority complex, and ineptitudeness of the government caused the crash, not the Indians.. If we had standards for aviation, and the Ministry of Aviation enforced these standards - I doubt the air crash would have happened..@^^ Gbam+1000. There is no aspect of Nigerian life that is not affected by our so called Government ineptitude and corruption- Oil industry, Education, Health, Security, Immigration, Customs & Excise, Sports, Presidency (Politics) and Religion et al. We are deeply in a mess/trouble. We know nothing about those we do business with let alone get into "bed" with like the Indians et al. The Vaswani family were barely seven years in the country but they have managed successfully to pocket every member of our so called power elite - from Obj to the chief of customs&Excise that even when they were deported, another set of politicians(Yar Adua) regime allowed them back in quick time. We are not a nation hence anything goes. There is no emotional connection to anything worthwhile except the desire to loot and rip off the so called country(Nigeria) for a fee. For a fee, anybody can get into Nigeria and do whatever they want with the connivance and protection from the middle and top. We have to be honest that we are not yet a nation. |
Bontee Yet i would want you to be clear about our corruption syndrome, so it is out of greed and wickedness according to you?. If so how do we solve it or don't you think that this democracy and capitalism is the cause of our problem. I don't think people would be very corrupt like this if we still go by our traditional ways of doing things. Let me ask one question, what was the level of corruption within us before the Europeans came to colonize us?.Well, corruption only happens when you do not have any moral, self restraining scruples or qualms and the added opportunity/knowledge that you can get away with it. The only people who can safely profess undying love for Nigeria like IBB et al have infinite reasons to do so. Their ill gotten wealth, security and happiness is guaranteed within the Nigeria they have created hence any discussion/conversation about the status quo/corporate arrangement of the country is seriously discouraged loudly at times violently too. There is no corruption syndrome as such but rather there is a tendency and proclivity for it because of the peculiar circumstance of Nigeria like other multi ethnic based African countries too. "A thief rarely will still in his/her own backyard" because there is an emotional connection to his domain. How many Nigerians sincerely are imbued with such emotional connection for anything outside of their immediate ethnic domain/nationality? We have for a long time deluded ourselves/ shouted ourselves hoarse about how we love Nigeria as if that by itself, is enough to connect us to each other emotionally. Our so called institutions(schools etc) are not designed to instil cohesive nationalism/patriotism in us let alone engender the foundations of self love/pride that goes a long way in discouraging such vices like corruption et al. Democracy and Capitalism is not exactly the root cause of our problems nor the cause of corrosive corruption tendencies. We are not yet a cohesive "nation" so our problems of corruption is unlikely to go away any time soon even with strong arm "leadership"(Buhari). |
Bontee One theory which i heard about is that every English speaking country colonized by Britain is extremely corrupt more than the french speaking colonized countries. So how corruptible tendencies is usually mirrored to Britain and another which i heard of during a Nigerian debate to fix Nigeria is this.@^^ Bros, please do not blame the British . It may appear that the Francophone countries are less corrupt but truthfully corruption is what every African country have in common whatever language we may speak. The difference between the Francophone countries is that they are relatively poorer excepting Gabon and the two Congos. Besides, their populations are relatively smaller too. Corruption happens a lot where there is something to steal in the first place hence DRC Congo was the champion under Mobutu,Ivory Coast, Gabon and Central Africa. Britain is not known for blatant corruption as the USA,Italy and France so that theory is out of place/wrong. Nobody taught Ibori how to steal. He is just greedy and wicked. We cannot afford to blame others for our shortcomings. Again as usual "burying our heads in the sand". |
nagoma Nigeria is world wide known for corruption and both national and international crimes. I wonder how Nigeria can be explained according to your " national religious belief theory"@^^Bros, Is Nigeria a nation ? Everyone is a lone ranger without care nor a modicum of emotional attachment to the place you and I refer to as Nigeria. Besides, we do not have a supra-national culture let alone religion. Are you surprised that we are bumbling around and confused even within our own mini-national groups because we have been infected by quasi/pseudo-religious imports like Christianity and Islam. There is nothing inherently wrong with these faiths per se but we have to admit that there is a lot of psychic dislocation amongst our so called "believers" - Christians with their "head in the sand" docility and the so called muslims with equally confused understanding/interpretation of Islam by their actions et al. Africans south of the Sahara are definitely in trouble and in flux. It is a very serious issue and topic for us to do justice on this forum my brother. Corruption and other ills happen in a place where you do not have any emotional attachment to let alone respect for. Have you not noticed how our villages and small towns are relatively cleaner than our so called big "cities"? When people move to an impersonal place(city) where they do not originally belong to, the tendency to loose one's self governing morality goes out of the window because of the quasi anonymity the city offers to the new "miscreant" who is more likely to behave very badly in every sense of the word, than in their village or small town. Our Politicians including the President do not have any Emotional attachment to Nigeria never mind their fancy rhetorics and oaths. Nigeria is just a big "super warehouse" where if you are lucky,in the right place at the right time, your susceptibility to lootocracy or thiefry will never be out of place because there is no convincing moral outrage whatsoever because you are not in your immediate domain. That's how bad it is. There are no Outrage except the usual grumbles or in Naija parlance- bad belē ![]() |
S@NNiE we however condemn in strong terms the extra judicial killings. Women and children sustained various degrees of injuries from the military bullets. As far as a civilised world is concerned, we see this act as extra judicial killing and unfortunate worthy of all remorse by the Nigerian Army.@^^ I hope with the numerous reports of Nigerian soldiers engaging in extra-judicial killings and rapes, that the vexing genocide/massacre at Asaba has been confirmed/proved beyond reasonable doubts that our men in uniform are not fit for purpose. They do more harm to so called security and peace keeping in the country and even outside the country by killing and abusing civilians instead of facing their mission diligently. "The chicken has come home to roust"- I dey laff. . |
Busy_body They have sold their souls to the devil because they want to make a quick bob, at the expense of their "good name/reputation" . . . And that indian Sudique poster up there ain't even ashamed to say they are only in it for the maximum money they can get.@^^ I presume the majority of Indians are "Hindus". Well, in Hinduism there is no such thing as that "high minded" sense of "morality" like feeling unusually troubled about misdeeds, going to hell/devil. The concept of conscience as interpreted in African culture or in quasi Christian view point does not make sense in Hinduism nor in relation to so called good name/reputation does not arise so long that the " end justifies the means". It is no wonder that India and Pakistan are bedevilled with corruption like Nigeria and other unwholesome ills quite unlike their other Asian counterpart(China)- (Confuscius). You can to a large extent tell a society's values by their national religious beliefs and habits . Please keep in mind that Pakistan has not always been a muslim enclave but has an older faith(Hinduism) which dominated the Indus valley before the Islamic invasion/conquest of some parts of Asia. They are inherently corrupt and lacking in conscience as you and I would think/know. |
