Kilode?!: I feel your pain.@^^ RFLMAOBro Kilode?!: you're definitely a danger to society and with the killer question it's something else The Cotonou advice is actually very refreshing and an eye opener for the average Naija trying to make sense of our idiosyncrasy. I love the Ilesa advice too. |
Gayigaskia You obviously still think that Nigeria is really that Giant they said it is. In french west Africa they call it the giant with mud feet. Keep deceiving yourself, Niger has found its own oil and the refinery has been built with the Chinese investment. And mind you Niger will be by 2014 2nd only to Canada with the biggest Uranium mine in the world. So Niger is impoverished what about Nigeria? Rich?@^^ I have never for one minute assumed that Nigeria is that Great let alone a Giant. Uranium has been mined in Niger for quite sometime now hence Quadaffi and the French have always been interested in the place. It's not news or new info and it does not negate the fact that much of the Sahel region are impoverished by bad Leadership like Nigeria, Chad and Cameroons. It has nothing to do with "francophonie" or otherwise. Poverty, backwardness and bad leadership are the unifying attributes amongst us all. We cannot escape it. It's obvious that you are not amused by my choice of word "impoverished". What is there to be proud of In Nigeria and her equally corrupt poor neighbours? Please relax and do not get overly sentimental/touchy over nothing . The issue is about Nigeria and her inherent incompetence, self destructive corrupt leadership and not Niger per se. |
igbo2011 It is bettter having Niger refine our oil than having foreigners outside of Africa do it. We need more intra African trade so atleast Africans do business with Africans.@^^ Yes every sane person supports intra-African trade/cooperation. The outrage is about questionable non transparent oil refinery close to Nigerian border that was built by a so called "impoverished" country(Niger) in quick time. Where is the oil coming from? Who are behind the idea/finance? Why could Niger build a refinery expediently and Nigeria with her oft taunted capacity, lacks the will/ability to rectify her parlous state of affairs in her local oil refining industry/incapacity? Are we really serious, patriotic nor honourable as a people at all? The so called leadership(Nigeria) is unpatriotic, sick and cynical. |
Vigilante You've got to ask yourself who owns the refinery in Niger? I bet its the same Nigerian thieves.@^^ Gbam! +1000. The refinery was built solely for the Nigerian market by "invisible" Nigerians&Nigeriens. They are extremely methodical and thorough hence it did not take them much time to complete the refinery expediently. Our so called refineries are still under repairs or service or awaiting spare parts/never ending funding. Sincerely, Nigeria is not fit for purpose under the kind of leadership pervasive all over the country. We are sick and not honest enough to admit it that all is not well with us as a country let alone as non existent nation . |
Katsumoto .Besides the white folks in Essex are different from the white folks you will find in Surrey or Berkshire. You will find many Nigerians who live in the suburbs who still travel into London for association, hanging out, parties. Not many move to the suburbs to start hanging out at the pub on Friday. They are likely to be at 805, Presidential, Mama Calabar, Tomi's kitchen, etc When you do find Black folks in white clubs, pubs, they are hunting and you can't blame anyone for hunting. @^^ bolded you'll kill person . It's refreshing to laugh heartily on your insight. I guess you're a real raver . and very good observer of the U.K. scene. In the U.S.A because of its size and dispersed nature of Nigerians, they do not have such luxuries. It's a shame we've lost our sense of humour on this forum. Please, the topic is redundant and we must not take ourselves too seriously by engaging in tittle tattle/needless bad language etc. Are we not dissipating energy in engaging in banalities in this forum most especially as some in this forum have put some "order"/re-orientation to the OP and his cohorts. Deliberate ignorance is not an option. |
Shymmex Nigerians commit crime everywhere, but the ratio of Nigerian kids committing crimes per population in the UK outnumbers that of Nigerians in other civilized countries. Bare in mind that the population of Nigerians in America is arguably twice, or three times the population of Nigerians in UK. The question is, why is rife among Nigerian kids in the UK?cheikh Gang banging happens where kids/teenagers have a shared "world view" and live in close proximity to each other. Nigerians in the U.S.A. do not have the "luxury" or misfortune of living in very close proximity to the predominantly vulnerable community as in London. America is bigger and actually segregated. Nigerians in the USA are likely to mind their own business instead of mixing with the host community that may influence their kids negatively.@Shymmex Pls see above^^ for my opinion on the matter. The Nigerian population in the U.S.A may be large but they are actually dispersed between the various states/cities and towns. There are no opportunities to Bleep like those who live in the "Projects" or in council estates of some inner cities of U.K. especially London. I think that the other contributory factor in some Nigerian(British) kids/teenagers from these estates gang banging is peer pressure and bad/absent parenting skills by delinquent parents who have become assimilated into the sub-culture of the underclass(Carribbeans). Please keep in mind that majority- over 90% of most Carribbean households are single parent homes. Some Nigerians have learnt to "play" the system by voluntarily becoming single parents because it's economically viable and profitable(welfare payments). Soon or later apathy and mindless consumption patterns sets in which breeds hopelessness and avarice in fickle uneducated minds. There is more to it but it's not rocket science to see or predict the future of some of our youths from bad homes living in some council estates/ areas of London. Proximity to like minded youths and families with almost identical aspirations, go a long way in fuelling delinquency/bad behavioural tendencies. Naija Britons cannot escape it if they are unfortunate to have uncaring, "dazzled" and "assimilated" delinquent parents more so if they are from single parent homes. |
Cap28 but along came the gentrification projects whose objective was to reduce the high concentration of blacks in the area by dispersing them to othr londn boroughs thereby breaking their ability to form cohesive communities and build up a strng economic base like othr minority grps in london.@^^ Hi Cap28, you'll agree with me that a lot of our people(Black Britons) have an inherent penchant for wanting to be dispersed or living in so called white areas as a "mark" of achievement/ social climbing. It's very prevalent amongst Black people to boast gleefully that they are the only black resident within/in their neighbourhood. Truthfully, slavery and colo-mentality have done our people so much damage that sometimes we actively promote and participate in actions that undermine our own survival as a group/people hence we do not have the equivalent mini mumbai or little India or China towns anywhere outside of Africa abroad. We do not think strategically let alone adopting a "war psyche" at all times as to be prepared. We do not understand the fundamentals of "Power" and how it's achieved/maintained as a community. We cannot achieve power if we are actively looking outwards to associate with "enemies" instead of consolidating/building your own community. Our desires and everything we do is predisposed- "outwards" from shopping, schooling, residence, entertainment and sex et al. |
Shymmex I only replied to the bolded part of your post - because I was raised here.. I can't really speak for Nigerians in America, because their struggle is different from mine. All I can I say is that Nigerians over there have it better - probably because of Affirmative Action reserved for blacks, regardless of their country of origin...@^^ Do Nigerians in U.K. not have the same life chances like the (white) Britons if they are legit in the country? Education in the U.K. to some extent is literarily "free"/Loans and accessible if you are willing to put the hard work. Perhaps the only place where Nigerians meet some obstacles are in the search for work etc. Affirmative Action may have opened up more opportunities to Nigerians in the U.S.A. but is that not a function of the nature of the place/size and politics etc? There is no basis for comparison between the two countries whatsoever. It's like comparing Nigeria and the Gambia or Ghana. Nigerians in the U.S.A. don't exactly fraternise with the host community(African Americans) nor live cheek by jowl in the "Projects", like some of the vulnerable Nigerians living in the U.K.( so called "problem" Estates). The so called estates in U.K. are socially superior and better than their American counterparts. Gang banging happens where kids/teenagers have a shared "world view" and live in close proximity to each other. Nigerians in the U.S.A. do not have the "luxury" or misfortune of living in very close proximity to the predominantly vulnerable community as in London. America is bigger and actually segregated. Nigerians in the USA are likely to mind their own business instead of mixing with the host community that may influence their kids negatively. The OP is obviously ignorant of the U.K. and to some extent not quite clued up on the American scene too African American or not. Sincerely, there is no basis for debate. America obviously will have more material opportunities because of size etc but nevertheless, the UK is still a better place in every sense of the word for the "Black Man" outside of Africa/homeland. America comes a distant second. |
Katsumoto To be honest, Nigerians have been too reliant on the system. Ostentacious lifestyles sometimes prevents Black people in the UK from expanding. A guy who owns a small shop in Peckham has bought an e-class before its even one year. Indians on the otherhand will look haggard for years, focusing on expansions. I don't want to get into this too much before Nigerians attack me.Katsumoto They should also put more emphasis on their kids and not the silly parties they have every single weekend. It is absolutely ludicrous for a parent to go from work to a party and back to work without going home to check on his/her kids. Especially when you live in the worst parts of London.@^^ Never thought you are stridently against our foolish "habits". You are on point Bro ![]() |
BlackBaron I disagree bout the racism part. Blacks were among the first wave of immigrants to the UK. Yet, the Indians who came much afterward seem to be better off with a burgeoning middle class. I'm often surprised to see a second or third generation black family still living in sink hole estates whilst their Indian counterparts have long climbed up the social ladder.@^^(Bolded)^ Are you sure of your historical and sociological perspective/interpretation of the U.K. scene? |
shymmex[/b ]99.9% of everyone born here is first generations - the 2nd generations are not even old enough to be gang members..@^^ Bros you are definitely wrong about your assumptions about first and second generations not old enough to be gang members. Perhaps you are assuming that Nigerians began arriving U.K. in the late '70s or '80s and not before. I think Gbawe's views on the subject are on point and truthful. |
̴Bluetooth A woman can achieve anything if she doesnt do boys.Keep it up girl.@^^ Gbam ...you'll kill person... |
hbabe It is shameful that our leaders have no confidence in our health facility in Nigeria. A big big shame!@^^ What else do they have confidence in? Nigeria? or Education?- when their children(home and abroad) study in foreign owned institutions. Lucky Joe's children attend American Int. school. So where is the belief in anything Nigeria? |
Rossikk The problem is not that there are no hospitals in Nigeria to treat whatever is ailing Mark. There are. Especially top private hospitals with highly trained personnel and cutting edge equipment. The problem is INFERIORITY COMPLEX of many 'leaders' for whom anything done by a black person cannot be considered good enough compared to what a white can do. They always believe they will get BETTER treatment by whites NO MATTER how good the facilities in their own country.@^^Gbam+1000. They don't even consider Cuba(black). |
TisaBone I did not say aggressive, but assertive.@^^ bolded above^.... when did thoughtlessness or impulsiveness mean assertive? |
tpia@ i think most men like women who arent 100% fixated on men to the exclusion of every other thing.Gbam+1000times ![]() |
@OP 13 years may seem small or insignificant but it's more than life(12yrs) sentence in British Legal system. Even a one day sentence of any of our so called "leadership" should be something of enormous SHAME to us all as a people. What is it about Niger deltans/South South people with gross indiscipline and lack of decorum in their thieving quest even when it's not necessary? (1) Thief Madam/Mrs Ibru (2) Alamesiagha (3) Odili (4) Madam umbrera/President's wife (5) J. Ibori/ wife and mistress et al., (6) Lucky Igbinedion. (7)pls help me complete the long list. Is it that poverty (material and spiritual) is synonymous with their lot hence they are so wretched, uncouth and crass/crude in every sense of the word? What is it? I still cannot understand the thieving streak of Mrs. Ibru. |
@OP I hope Nigerians, especially their law enforcement system and so called Judiciary(legal system) should reflect seriously on the import of the shameful end of someone they collectively protected because of his "office" and stolen MONEY. Every Nigerian should feel embarrassed and ashamed of our so called "leadership" and thieves wielding enormous power/influence in our midst. It makes white folks feel superior and as usual, our saviours/redeemers again. We can't blame them anymore . It is sad indeed. ![]() |
PhysicsQED I honestly hope more evidence can be found supporting the thesis that the roots of Greek civilization were mostly Afroasiatic.^^ Actually the DNA of the Greek is Asiatic(middle-East) than European. The Europeans(north) because of their "Purposeful" sense of history/self, have to anchor their "civilisation" mission and sense of well being on something tangible and somewhat illustrious than on their traditional marauding "barbarian" past and perhaps present too hence Greek/Macedonian history is very handy indeed . Europeans are good story tellers and blessed with fantastic imagination too. They are very good at translating their thoughts and imagination into reality good or bad. They are not ashamed of mimickry/copycat. You only have to observe the Nazi(Hitler) era Artefacts etc . Just for the record, I don't think Diop was really much of a "radical". He went to France to study physics under a famous white French physicist, married a white French woman, etc. He was mainly out to correct some erroneous definitions, distortions, and Eurocentric perceptions about Egypt, but the man himself does not seem to have personally been much of a political/social "radical".^^ You are right but no one expects him to be "perfect" or "radical" either, otherwise the essence of his scholarship is lost. Diop was never a follower of "fashion" or what's in "vogue". Yes he married an Oyinbo but that was the norm amongst his generation of 'educated' french colonised Africans of his time. He is strictly a scientist/anthropologist not a political or social animal. He is very doggedly/thorough. His personality is very serious and unsmiling. African history as we know it today may never have been featured in the UNESCO history of the world but for his doggedness. As usual Africa would have been invisible without his scholarship/resoluteness. Ivan Setima and Chancellor Williams are what I'll classify as "populist" historians but it does not trivialise or undermine their work either. I hope you get my drift . |
Ufeolorun We don't need to re-invent the wheel we can tweak it like the Chinese are doing but we must first build a nation. We have capacity like everybody else but what we do not have is a coordinated structures fully guarded by few influential minority who prolly will be dictators,THE INFLUENTIAL MINORITY WE HAVE BEEN SADDLED WITH ARE SEXUALLY PERVERTED,MORBIDLY HEDONISTIC MIDDLE AGED LOUTS.I say this cos most of the countries we now call developed had once in their life an authoritarian system that enforced compliance and harmony then they graduated to Democracy, thats why i laugh whenever the West calls Chinese government totalitarian.China will never allow democracy for years to come cos they know their success right now and in the future is heavily dependent on sovereign ideological coherence(a proper country)^^Gbam+ bolded We don't really have an intellectual(ideas) elite in Nigeria as such. We tend to group mere "story" tellers etc as intellectuals and monied political thugs/delinquents as elites. Our journalists are even worse if they can be called journalists at all |
Onlytruth Infact the more I think about this, the more I become convinced that we really don't have the right men as governors in SE. None of them has dreams matching the REAL potential of our zone. Yet people wonder why our people leave in droves to other places.^^ Bro you have given your succinct and honest answer to your thoughts already in the highlighted above . I have said it severally that so called leaders(Governors) in Nigeria lack vision for the possibilities/potentials of their constituency/domain. They have enormous power and influence but lack the necessary creativity or problem solving abilities for any viable society. It's not unique to the South East alone. It's an African thing- Inertia and Laziness. |
Katsumoto You are partly correct in that most of the UK spaces at Oxbridge go to white students but that is mainly in certain disciplines such as law, literature, and history. Most science positions go to foreign students and home students who 'conform'. To conform, you must have attended a private or grammar school, played rugby, cricket, etc. If you are some brainy black kid from Islington or chalk farm, then you are unlikely to get an interview. It is difficult to get an interview if all you are relying on are your grades. If grades only, then they must be so good that you are mentioned in the dailies. As a home student, you must bring other abilities to the table because there are too many applicants. That doesn't hold for foreign students.^^ Bro you're very much on point. Although I might disagree a little with the mention of Islington and Chalk Farm as they are not exactly typical of the usual relative inner city areas like Southwark(Peckham), Tottenham or Hackney. Islington and Chalk farm are predominantly populated by fairly well heeled educated middle class whites usually with very good university education. For some reasons not quite clear to me most lecturers/academics and writers reside in these two places. Perhaps it's a case of "birds of the same feather flock together" or "water seeking its level" . Nevertheless your analysis of the inherently elitist British educational system is very correct. |
SEFAGO If they are willing to accept International students who are African then discriminate against those who are british just because of tuition does not make sense at all.^^Education and admission into the UK( higher Education) is far more complexthan meets the cursory immigrant eyes lacking the sophistication and awareness of the inherent history/sociology of the place. Most Africans(Nigerians) lack basic understanding of the societies they find themselves hence we bumble along because we do not have the national cultural base or foundation for a cohesive worldview that guides our informed or uninformed actions anywhere we find ourselves. Education in the UK has become a very big business racket for the British government. If you have the 'dough' as a foreign/international student you're very welcomed if you can pay the very extortionate "overseas" fees upfront. Education in the UK has always been very economically based, elitist/class based and highly politicised. It's truly "OLD" Europe ![]() Most local(British) students these days are abandoning higher education because of the "market" forces governing tuition fees and living expenses for the local British prospective student desiring college or university education. It has become a luxury for most local students hence choices are very limited especially for the poorer immigrant community of the UK(Nigerians) included. As a matter of fact British(White) students are now seeking admissions into universities abroad in countries like Poland, Czech republic, the rest of Europe etc because of the "politics" of education in Britain. Education policy in Scotland is very different from England and it is cheaper or subsidised for Nationals only. British Education has always been elitist and was designed as such originally before it was expanded to appear "inclusive" to the uninformed/uneducated eye and mind. Please we should not outrightly condemn or malign their system. It's a product of a very powerful Imperial Nation and people who know their "Purpose and Mission" in life/ the "world" where the sun never sets for King and country(Empire). The history and purpose of British education makes for interesting reading indeed . Immigrants were never intended to be part and parcel of the equation of real British society. America would be relatively open and inclusive but we know the history, size and the social dynamics of the place hence it's very futile to compare the Uk to the USA.Nigerians have excelled in practically every sphere of "Academia" or "education" but are we not getting over ourselves by thinking that "literacy", "education"(highly-certificated persons)etc is the same as being a truly Educated person?. Perhaps this is where much of our so called 'national' problems lye. Education to the Nigerian is basically another "consumer" item or accessory or truthfully a "Meal" ticket for survival and nothing more, hence we are very static or underdeveloped because our understanding of what Education really means is lost to us unlike the Chinese, Indian or Arab. Education is beyond mere "Meal" ticket. The British like the rest of the West and the Asians understand the full concept and importance of "proper" national education for sustainability of their civilisation/nation. Education is actually about warfare in its true sense not just about meal tickets hence Africans never really excel or transform anything but job hunters more than any other group anywhere home or abroad. We do not yet understand that the world is in competition(War) and we are not yet a nation let alone planning or thinking about proper Education for self/nationhood either. We are just mere lone rangers bumbling along in the world full of hyenas. The analysis of the Nigerian system by StrangerF, PhysicsQED and Kilode?! are very on point. |
Nnenna1 SMH.@^^ hi Nnenna, How do you do? Well, it's only a handful of persons owning, benefiting and looting the wealth of the so called nation hence material poverty and poverty of spirit coupled to serious deprivation is the norm in Nigeria. We generally celebrate mediocrity and wicked persons in our midst hence the convicted and those who have 'escaped' justice are still heroes in their domain. Please relax . I share your pain and sentiments too. |
MsDarkSkin Dude! You ARE Igbo. Smh@^^ Hi MsDarkSkin He is not Igbo but it does not matter either. He is a normal Nigerian like anybody else on this thread who refuses to appreciate the anthropological import(ance) of the write-up/OP. Generally, we are backward not because God dealt us a bad hand but because we are inherently LAZY and not interested in intellectual rigour or scholarship like other "races". Sadly only a few are interested. You'll think that only the Fulani, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba own or populate Nigeria except recently when the Ijaw muscled into the conundrum. I like your pose .You are definitely representing your yard ![]() |
Ngodigha1 When a man takes his life in Igbo culture, it is an abomination. While in Yorubaland, it is not. @^^ Not quite true. Igbo persons(Men) are more likely to threaten suicide despite it being an abomination. In history of places in the new world(carribbean-Jamaica)e.g., the igbo slaves were noted to be uncooperative and melancholic because the men were not allowed to live together with their "wife" in the slave farms by the owners/overseers hence they are prone/preferred suicide. In Jamaica it is in the folklore that if you are so stubborn etc or suicidal, you are seen as 'ibo'. There is no culture besides the Japanese(harakiri), Old inuits/ Eskimos and some Indian(Hindu widows) that revere suicide. The Yoruba certainly do not find suicide acceptable just like many other African cultures. Perhaps you are misreading and misinterpreting 'history' of Afonja and the recent so called suicide of a prominent person in Ogun state. That does not make it any less of an abomination in Yoruba land and other places in Africa. Africans are remarkably " a very Hopeful" race not easily given to foolhardiness and suicidal tendencies. Self immolation and suicide has never been the African way. |
ebecode Unfortunately, world politics is not rice and beans. As a matter of fact when it comes to chosing a world bank pres if US nominates & Japan & EU vote for d candidate. The candidate will win.is as simple as that.@^^ Gbam!! . The "joker" or "Ace" is held by America whatever our quasi-sentiments may be. "Who pays the piper calls the tune". Besides, Jim Yong Kim is South Korean born(Oriental), American and an Academic too like any of the rest so called qualified candidates in the fray. The Voting patterns determine everything. The African sympathisers(votes) are in a minority with no financial/power leverage whatsoever but have enormous sentimental or "moral" goodwill. I wonder where the realists of this world will cast their votes? . Numbers and Backbone counts. NL opinions, support or even haters do not count . |
OK2NVME i hav said it b4 d next war will not be fought to keep nigeria but will be 4 d hausa/fulani to have acces to d atlantic thro ode uwa nation.@^^ Well, They already do via the perennial control of the customs and excise ministry/ports in Lagos, to the exclusion and ineffective development of other ports in the South. The control of the ports and customs and excise have always been under the grip and effective control of the North since the military era till this day. Think about it bro. |
@OP Well, In Brazil despite the large black/African population, there's an inherent hostility and antipathy towards anything African hairdo or Braids. It is considered vulgar or too black for the So called Brazilian psyche. Brazil is truly a horrible place for the Black experience, never mind the general goodwill most people(outsiders) hold for Brazilians. it's a shame indeed. |
playmode Don't you guys ever get tired@ Word^^^Gbam!!!! . It's as if we've refused to think. Bro, I share your pain. |
Andre Uweh The Oba of Benin-HRH Erediuwa has always intervened in Edo state politics. I can Remember how Gov Onyearugbulem suspended him because of this idiotic act.@^^ Did Onyearugbulem really have that power let alone legitimacy in the traditional Benin affairs?. I guess he was being drunk and foolish as usual. |
. The issue is about Nigeria and her inherent incompetence, self destructive corrupt leadership and not Niger per se.
.
