Its funny how some people honestly think they can cheat their way into school.
You see some1 who wants to study medicine carrying expo to jamb and post ume...so what are you going to do when you get in...carry expo and sort till you get out.
Well like our dreaded thermo lecturer (DR Lucky) used to say
-University is like an open continuous flow system. Where some people are begging "let me in, let me in!!", and those inside are crying "let me out!! Let me out!!"
I blame d family system actually. We all talk about corruption in high places, but we forget to mention how corrupt some families are. when a parent can actually give out money to his child to runz jamb. Well that paints the picture of the nigerian society.

deife: I'll be as brief as possible, Nairalanders. To tell you that kidnappers & ritualists exist & are on rampage is an understatement. What you need to be aware of is that they adopt different strategies to capture their victims. I'm going to share with you one approach so as not to become a prey.

I was at Law School busstop at about 6.30am today when I saw a cab & told the driver my destination. He told me to board. I noticed that there was a 'passenger' beside him & another one at the back. So I sat at the back.
Within 30 seconds of our journey, the young man beside me offered the driver #100 as transport fare. Immediately, the driver started shouting. The dialogue ensued between both of them:

Driver: How dare you offer me a hundred naira as transport fare? Aren't you the one that put that bag in the trunk? In fact you have a case to answer. Where did you get that huge amount of money from?

Passenger: (sobbing & genuflecting) please don't expose me. My boss died this morning. He was a Hausa man who ran a Bureau de Change business. He died after a brief illness. As soon as he died, my colleague made away with one of his vehicles. Because I don't know how to drive, I decided to make away with this money.

Passenger at the Front: How much is in the bag?

Passenger: 1.1 million dollars

Passenger at the Front: Oga driver, you know what? Let's strike a deal with the man. (Facing the Passenger at the back who at this point is already shaking like a jellyfish) Are you ready to share this money with the rest of us on this car?

Passenger: Yes sir!

Passengerthe one who 'stole' the money) We need a herbalist or witch doctor to help us make the charms ineffective because the last time I tried to touch the money, I fell down.

Driver: (Cuts in) that's no problem. We will get a pastor or a herbalist to destroy the charms.

At this point, the passenger asked for my views. To be candid, so many things were on my mind. I felt this could be the 'major break' I had been trusting God for. On the other hand, I wasn't comfortable because if what the passenger said was anything to go by, & I partook in spending the money, I would have murdered Peace & Sleep.

Me: No true pastor will agree to be a part of this.

Before you could say Jack Robinson, the Passenger at the Front quickly offered to phone a herbalist that he claimed to know. Meanwhile the driver had taken the alternative route instead of going through the Toll Plaza. As soon as we got to a point, I told the driver to stop, I told him I wasn't interested, & immediately got out of the car & took a long walk.

To cut a long story short, when I got to work, I just hinted my colleague about my experience without going into details & guess what she said! She told me their modus operandi which tallied with what I experienced today.

So Nairalanders, I urge you to always take time to pray before you go out & be close to God. Put God first in all you do & be security conscious. May you not die untimely in Jesus' name & may God's grace be constantly available to you & your loved ones.

I honestly can't vouch for this figures, but saying dat the figures are false based solely on the rise in price of commodities is wrong, and that was my issue with you.
The spending power is the real issue and not the rise in price, and this I believe is the real challenge any govt in nigeria will face.

Reading the comments so far, I get the idea that a lot of people are J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ confusing deflation and inflation.
When someone uses the increase in price of rice or garri in his area (blindly forgetting that there are thousands of other markets scattered around the country) to debunk the figures, I J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ see it as a mild confusion.
As someone said above, that inflation rate has reduced doesn't mean that price of goods won't go up (that's why its called reduced INFLATION rate), it simply points to the fact they it will increase at a more slower pace.
In order words price of commodities MUST STiLL INCREASE! But now @ a lower rate of 9.6 percent.

As some one once said, decrease in inflation rate doesn't mean decrease in price...it J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ means a decrease at the rate things are going up.....in english...THINGS MUST STILL GO UP!

My younger bro is about writing jamb, and we really had a though time getting him to decide on what course to study.
He finally decided on being a pilot (my mum want craze!! ), and being d first son in the house (dad is late), i had to give the yes or no.
So I had to arrive @ a balance, since nobody really forces anyone to do any course in our home.
I convince/ advised my bro to do mechanical engineering (seeing how supremely confident he is in mathematics, futhermaths, physics and TD). My logic is that mech. Eng. and airplanes are kinda related, so on one hand reading mech. Eng. Will give him a degree of versatility, while still giving him d option of doing something in aviation and @ the same time keep my mum's BP low .
The thing now is that am not sure how he will move from being an engr. to a pilot.
So how does one become a pilot here in nigeria?
Can someone read aviation right from jamb?
How sound was my judgment?

In the first place, they're usually too young to know better. They either get pushed, or they just follow the crowd.
My post is made out of compassion, not criticism.

And as per government . . ., well, I think we should start from the first level of 'government' the kids know - their parents. It is at this point that the problem starts from, when the parent cannot advise their child but is rather pinning their own aspirations on the child. What's the use of pressuring children to study majors they are not suited for, or to even go to college in the first place? Maybe all the child needs to do is learn a craft or a trade sef.

Had a friend that had all the hallmarks of being a tight engineer back then in ss3. I mean the dude had mad TD (technical drawing) skillz, and was the 2nd best graduating student.
Only for the guy to opt out of TD exam days b4 weac cos the parents told him he was to be a doctor. Sad thing is the uni didn't take him for medicine...so he was suck with microbiology!
Men!I Was so upset. The guys maths and drawing skills is something I could only dream of...and he is now J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ a microbiologist. Smh

Its a general call to do something about the igbo penchant for dividing @ the time unity is needed most. She used the example of how the rest of the county see the igbo's as people who only dance to the highest bidder, and will even go against themselves for the right price. This was the reason for her call of unity. Claiming that she was only referring to igbo's in government is highly narrow minded

As a matter of fact, that statement made me respect her even more. Its one thing exalt your own people, but it takes courage 2 also see their faults.
I insist that the average igbo dude living in other parts of the country (maybe outside the east) have little or no trust for another igbo person (maybe apart from his immediate family). How do you then expect a man from Bomadi or calabar to trust you. Those issues need to be addressed hence her statement.

The bottom line is that the there is a negative perception of igbos in this country, and the individual igbo person on the street isn't really helping matters.
The 1st step in solving a problem is the acceptance of the existence of that problem in the 1st place. Without that what you have is J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ a journey through a thing called denial.
Am from d south and currently serve in delta, and can attest that the average igbo dude, doesn't trust the next igbo dude buy his side. Which is very very different from the total acceptance a yoruba guy has 4 another yoruba guy (or even hausa to another hausa) anywhere here in delta.
As a matter of fact, J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ speaking d language makes you automatic pals with either of the hausa or yoruba guys here.
That being said, have made some good igbo friends here, but still my experience with a few (as regards our cds account) leaves a lot to be desired.
Any form of generalization is a fallacy, but the behavior of a few will always cast a bad light on the rest. As mrs Ngozi said. The change must come from the individual.
As concerning her statement on merit, I long for the day when for someone to get a position,it wouldn't matter if the person was from the north, east, west or the bleeping atlantic!
