Try university of waterloo olujastro: It seems getting MSc admission into Canadian Universities is a 'big deal'. I've applied to two schools now but wasn't admitted; UofManitoba(Mech Eng.) & UofRegina(Pet. Eng). I wouldn't know what they really want but I know those are at least not the top five ranked schools in Canada for which makes me wonder why they reject like that. After coming up with a good SOP, academic references, CGPA of 4.2/5.0 (Mech Eng), meticulously filling their application forms; One wonders what they really from me again! Them jus dey wack my $100 sha.. |

I thought they were meant to give me temporary resident visa (like 3-6 months) then at the point of entry I would be issued Student Visa…..but I was given (16 months )visa that will expiry the same day my passport expires…. >> Accommodation: I need advice on very cheap and conducive accommodation. I wouldn’t mind sharing room. they don't issue visas beyond the validity of your passport. You're even lucky. My visa was issued until a month before my passport was to expire. |

Reesqot: I was thinking about this but how do I go about having two passport? Is it not a problem if I tender another passport at the POE different from the one I used for application. Thank you you won't have two. The old one will be 'canceled without prejudice'. Make sure you have both passports at the POE. You can use a passport cover or rubber band like me |

Do you know if my study permit will be issued for the duration of my course or validity of passport. validity of your passport. However, there was someone who renewed her passport before leaving Nigeria I.e after she already got her trv. That way her study permit was issued for he duration of her program since she had a new passport. All she will have to do is get a new trv at her convenience. |

My school is in canada. thank you As far as I know, Nigerian banks don't pay CAD directly. I went to the bank, they converted my tuition from cad to USD equivalent. The money was converted to cad along the way. I dunno the process inside out. Just go to the bank, they know how they do it. |

fraque192: Hello Guys, I've read a lot through the posts but I couldn't quite find a definite answer to my question, which is; is it too late to start January entry application by mid November? That's when my school transcript would be ready. Thanks in advance for your help. It depends on the deadline the school gives international students. However I'd say its late because before you get a reply (admission) from school then apply for the visa (which takes quite a while), we will be way past January. |

benefe: Hi Chichi, I will like to know how long does admission process take for engineering graduate studies. secondly did you do TRV, I am a bit confused because on CIC, I saw that temporary resident visa is for visitors but here I can see students still apply for it. kindly enlighten me. thanks Hi! I'm not an engineering student but it took me a month + to get a reply from the school. The important thing is to apply before the deadline set by the dept for applications. Yes TRV is what you will apply for from Nigeria. It is the visa that allows you get into Canada because you really are a visitor. At the POE you will be asked to produce certain documents and asked some questions after which you will be issued a study permit; an important piece of paper that will be stapled to your passport. It is the study permit that gives you status in Canada . TRV is more or less a travel document. To clarify, I believe its the study permit form that will be filled and submitted in Nigeria but a TRV will be issued. You'll get your study permit when you arrive in Canada. I hope I haven't confused you. |

ceemac: Hello Chichi... I wanna study for Masters of Power Systems and Energy in Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering... The only issue is getting an Academic Supervisor before getting admitted, was this same with yours? How do you think I can get admission there? My CGPA is 3.9/5 and last two years links 4.2/5.. What do you think I should do to getting admission as getting an Academic supervisor is posing difficult. Hi, I didn't need a supervisor because my program is course based, no thesis. You should contact the department's program coordinator for more information on that. I've been told some don't need you to have a supervisor before they admit but that's hearsay. I can't confirm + I'm an arts student. As for your cgpa, before I applied I sent an email to the graduate program coordinator with a soft copy of my transcript and I was advised to apply . You can try that as well and see how it goes. No harm in trying. I'm sorry I can't be of much help. All the best. Also go through the list of professors in the program and look for someone whose research interests align with yours and contact them (that's if you've not done that). |

kwenu: hey house what are the steps for applying to a university in canada for undergraduate studies?
do i need TOEFL or and standardized test? is it a must? i saw a school whose tuition fee is about $5000 but its (web-metric)web ranking is very low will the embassy grant me visa if i apply to such school.
how long does it take the Canadian embassy to grant visa after admission letter is been given?
please all help me with advice on how to go about studying there Hi for TOEFL, it depends on the school and level of study. University of waterloo does not require English language testing for graduate students from Nigeria. So you will need to confirm with the school. As for web ranking and all, if the school is a designated learning institution, I don't see any problem. Confirm that on the CIC website. Processing times are not consistent. It ranges from weeks to months, so it is advisable you apply as early as is possible. |

kwenu: please chichi tell me, help me answer the questions above i posted, is it a must that i must write standardized test for admission purposes into undergraduate studies in canada?
is a low tution fee university a red flag at the canadian embassy? Hi. I am not sure about standardized tests for undergraduates because I am a graduate student. And no a low tuition fee uni should not be a red flag. Unless there are inconsistencies with your application, I don't see why the tuition cost will be a problem |

I had my tuition for the final term and living expenses for the 9 months i needed my study permit to be extended to. You should have an international student adviser that will help you calculate how much you need to have. I called the hospital i did my medicals and they sent me a letter of confirmation that I did medicals with them. If you are still in Nigeria, You can go there and ask for it, sexysammy0906: No prob, Thanks for the infor. already done the new passport. pls how much had to be in your Canadian account?? and the proof of medicals what was that?? |

42 with no kids is not a problem. Having children is a personal decision. I do not see why the VO will have a problem with that. Going for a pgd will of course ring bells. He might have to give reasons why he is being sponsored at his age though (I think) Omonjoe: Thanks I will advice him accordingly. He has enough money to co- sponsor himself sha. |

HI I am just seeing this. I dunno if its late but here goes. For renewal of passport in NIgeria, I only went with the old passport and money. Then for visa extension (within Canada), its the study permit you extend 1st. I had to submit -Proof of medicals that i did in Nigeria - Statement of account (I used my canadian account since i had all my money there) - Letter of enrollment from my school - Passport data page and copies of all visas and study permit - Passport photograph. - Cost of study permit extension $150 I applied June 16th and app was approved yesterday. Once i get the study permit document, I will apply for a new TRV since the old one has expired too. Apologies for the late reply sexysammy0906: Hey chichi pls what were the document you included for your passport renewal in Nigeria and how much did it cost?? And what were the document that was required for the visa extension. Thanks |

Graviton2: Based on personal research, I used to think it was loosely related. My bad! I am going for a program in political science and government myself. okay, cool. You can just look at it from the area of how countries, TNCs, MNCs, and individuals operate in the international system and how sometimes conflict arises between and among them. That is where peace and conflict can be connected, among other ways. I will go on but that will become me lecturing you. LOL. Wish you the best. |
