High rates are not good for the economy, that is why you get those rates in periods of high risks. It is better to have lower rates for the good of the economy and better standard of living
Are you saying that the economy is better now than in 2017?
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by chigo4u: 10:40pm On Jul 28, 2019
What we can only complain about is the rates. People were getting as high as 17% for 182 days tenor in 2017. I wonder what really changed in the economy between 2017 and now for rates to get this low

The more money you have the more clearer it is to you that tb doesn't make sense..

But what choice do one have?
T.B. makes sense. Instead of leaving money lying in the bank it best to put in T.B. infact to me T.B. makes sense only when you have more money

Dude no advertiser will pay $5k for Nigerian traffic. It is at most 500usd. Please don't argue just go and check out the ppv rates for each country. There are lots of things when it comes to ad revenue. Ppv, ppc, cpi, etc and also if the viewer skips the video immediately you'll be paid less and less

Guess you are referring to the down stream sector or petroleum products marketers.
Femi Otedola moved away from that sector to the energy sector which gives a higher profit margin and the players are currently few.

Do you know how much major petroleum products marketers are owing banks.
The only thing I think FG can do for Dangote is to completely remove subsidy but even as Buhari couldn’t remove subsidy despite increasing pump price, I don’t even know how that will end up.

Even if rates go below 5%, treasury bills still have the role it plays in the financial independence equation.
Treasury bills are basically short term investments
Thanks, you already said the rates might end at 8% before December so no need waiting for increase in rates this year. I’ll have to bid in the next primary market lol.

One doesn't have to wait to see.

We can project its impact on the oil sector based on what the coming onstream of his cement/sugar/flour factories did to the hitherto thriving businesses in those industries, especially when we know the government will do anything to ensure his profitability.
You can’t compare the oil sector in Nigeria to those sectors, there are lots of big players in the oil sector, people who even Dangote can’t muscle out.

Oando has corporate governance issues, excess debt, made the biggest loss after tax in corporate Nigeria about 3 years ago. Loss of over N200 billion.

Most of the the non performing loans in the banking sector are loans given to oil marketing companies or Nigerian own companies in the oil and gas industry.

A company got a $250 million loan from First Bank that is not performing.

Femi Otedola just sold his shares in Forte Oil for a whopping N65 billion about 4 weeks. And he will be investing it in the power generation sector.

I think he has seen the future and guessed the sector might not be profitable in the nearest future, most especially with the coming on stream of Dangote Refinery
Why is everyone thinking that Otedola selling his shares in forte oil automatically mean the future of oil sector in Nigeria is bleak? It might just be a wrong business move, no one can be certain. With the hype over Dangote refinery I can’t wait for when it will start so I can really see how it will affect the economy.

I want to ask you though with the low rates of tbills now, is it good to still invest in it or do stocks/bonds, which is most ideal for this period

“The CBN had offered treasury bills worth N107.1 billion for sale, but received subscriptions valued at N473.6 billion from investors.”

Wow... Anyway I think the August 1st rates will be higher

Yeah, I'm aware. Aside being an international bank, what else do you know about standard chartered bank NG? For personal reasons, I show preference for NSE listed firms. I didn't include Standard IBTC, another "international bank", for a reason.
This is hilarious. Diamond bank one of the biggest in Nigeria also listed in NSE crashed. Most of Nigerian banks use Standard Chartered as intermediary for international transactions including stanbic ibtc. Btw, Standard Chartered is targeted at the rich, minimum opening balance is 50k. You shouldn’t have mentioned it at all. It is one of the most solid banks in Nigeria.

Someone with 100M or 1B won't even approach many of the banks (you see as almighty) for savings, not just investments. There are banks I won't save 1b, banks like FCMB, Unity, Jaiz, Standard Chartered, Fidelity, Polaris, Heritage, Wema, Citi Bank, and Ecobank.

Does it mean savers in the aforementioned banks are gambling with their funds? Does it mean the above banks are scammers or Ponzi? Due diligence is all about conducting personal research.

As far as I know, I-Invest folks or Sterling bank are yet to say they're doing business with investors money. Treasury bills is what it is and let's leave it at that, unless the company has come to say otherwise. The only body in charge of T-bills is CBN so for I-Invest to fail, CBN must have failed other investors in GTB, Zenith, and the rest.

Let me ask you, if CBN fails to pay back your yield, how're you going to get your money? You think your bank would sell its assets to refund a money you invested with CBN? That you approached a bank with $1 trillion assets doesn't mean a thing. They're simply agents that can't be held responsible for CBN/Government's failures.
Did you mention Standard Chartered? Lol. An international bank? There’s no bank that’s safer to keep 1 billion in Nigeria than Standard Chartered bank, ask the former Chief Judge of Nigeria.

The issue of I invest has been overflogged here, can we go back to TBills please.

People have different apetite for risk, so let everyone do what they want. People will still do MMM anyday. The moment I started seeing Sterling bank partnership with the i invest as ‘fishy’ was the moment I wrote it off. But to each his own

Yes that’s also what op is asking for, he has made his capital from Nigeria like Dangote and wants to branch out like Dangote. Honestly your mentality is why you are yet to make it abroad, your reasoning is very low. Even on this thread there has been many people that have disclosed that leaving Nigeria is the best decision they have made, infact it’s only you that’s here saying the contrary so the problem is you and not the system. Maybe you are waiting for government to knock on your door and dash you money lol

and have you checked the number of people who are indebted in canada or USA, how many people in these countries can boost of $10K, that this young man have. i know is not about money, but guy it is not easy anywhere. success depends on how smart you can think and improvise your investment ideas, not necessarily but your location.
How many people can boast of that in Nigeria? Atleast outside, even if you don’t have much you are sure of feeding and basic amenities while over here nothing comes with the poverty. There is no environment to promote smart thinking in Nigeria

The same Dangote that is targeting to be listed on London stock exchange? Dangote probably stays outside Nigeria more than he stays in Nigeria

that is the issue

the middle class is thin in Nigeria

the poor; hopeless and miserable forms the vast majority.

my parents live a "good life" in Nigeria and I was privileged to live the kind of life I did as a young kid growing up into adulthood and all that

but I cannot say because mine was like that, that is the story id NiggerArea.

I saw so many suffer
Just go on twitter or instagram and do even 1k giveaway and see the amount of people that will subscribe and yet someone is saying people are making it in Nigeria lol

Dey deceive yourself over there and continue to reason like a hopeless being. I'm very sure you are still living under the care of your parent. A lot of people are making it in Nigeria through legitimate mean. Na today Nigeria no get electricity, roads, water etc abi na today dem just born u? You better emancipate yourself from the shackle of ignorance and poverty mentality and increase your hustle. No food for a lazy person even in Europe, America and Asia.
If you are offered a visa out of Nigeria even you will run faster than your legs. Check the number of people making it in Nigeria vs the number of unemployed. Like same Nigeria that is officially the poverty capital of the world. Pleasee
