I have enjoyed this topic longer than i expect, it has being intresting. One thing is to send a message another thing is to decode to ur understanding, so may rap it up by saying...behind a successful man their is a strong woman(wife or mother wether you acknowledge it or not) so both gender need each other to peform their responsibilities. Parents should not contribute to public nuisance by not educating them (both academics and home). Enough Money or not, build ur family give them the best u can and entrust everything to God. HAPPY SUNDAY |

Well...you r right Seventeen: i dint miss anything. I know exactly what op is saying. His argument is that it becoming more of a waste of money to educate a girl since 'most girls' (whatever u guyz mean by dat cos i dont agree) will still look for rich guys to marry instead of being self reliant and make their own money. My argument is that there is more to education dan ending up being rich and all that. If we hv to ask dat ridiculous question op is suggesting we ask our female children b4 we decide and make up our mind whether to give our daughters education (so that it doesnt end up being a waste of money) then the same should be asked a male child too, cos as much girls who are out there looking for money with their 'bodies' after their parents hv supposedly wasted money to train them (as op put it), are also many guys who are also graduates looking for money who have resorted to 419, yahoo-yahoo, armed robbery, pimping, rituals and lots more. So i can safely say dat educating both males and females have the same risks and problems. Ur Male child who u spent money to educate culd still end up useless. The quest and obssecion for wealth is another issue on its own and it affects both sexes. The last thing that should be on the mind of a father or mother before carrying out any duty as a parent is ur childs gender. Just do ur duty as a parent, pray for ur kids whether male or female to make u proud, leave everything to God and hope for the best. |

You missed the line the op is not against educating girls, moreover he said "most of the girls"... Not all Seventeen: God! What did i just read? I cant believe that In this age and time, young enlightened ppl like the op and those liking his post are of the opinion that educating a girl child is a waste. Plz parents, if u can afford it, educate ur girl child, theres more to education than ending up with a good job and getting rich. Infact may i use this opportunity and medium to celebrate my Dad as i always do, everyday of my life. We are 6 girls and our only brother who is the last and the only one still in uni. As a matter of fact we are the ones paying his fees now cos we hv asked our parents to relax and enjoy themselves. We are all graduates and am proud to say we are all outstanding in our various fields, some of us are professionals some are not, but thats not even the remarkable thing about us. I bet u, u would never meet a group of beautiful, smart, witty, confident sisters with very high self esteem like us. Infact when our husbands come together, the unknowingly talk endlessly about us and compare us like its a game of who married the smartest sister. I thank God for our parents that believed in us especially my Dad who never considered us lesser humans because we wr girls. We are not rich (that kind of world definition of rich) our husbands are not rich either but our parents are reaping the fruits of their labour. Even my uncles hv made envious statements to my dad on several occasions. I can tell u that he raised better children and is a prouder father than most of them who had more of boys. My friends always say that i cant hv a conversation without mentioning my dad, and its true because i just cant stop celebrating the man.
Abeg give ur children, whether boy or girl the best education u can afford, make una no mind op. |

Better teach ur kid the plain truth if you truly love her, than whipping up defence covbrand: When you educate a woman, you educate a nation. Irrespective of what happens after school, education is crucial to development, and who is better at passing knowledge than women. Most of you don't know how difficult mothering is, that's why you can talk this way. Not everyone is made to be career minded even most men aren't. So therefore what she does with her certificate doesn't matter, what matters is you give her quality education that YOU CAN AFFORD. |

Better still, its important to train them Toks2008: It is no longer a new thing that after graduation of a male child from a tertiary institution, there is so much expectation from him especially the one whose parents are from a very humble background and had to make huge financial sacrifices.
After graduation, this male child is expected to do his best as regards the ability to provide for himself, his aging parents and also prepare to start a family and we all know the financial demands that come with marriage ceremonies.
As if this is not enough for the male child, the female folks who have spent years in tertiary institutions to have a sound intellect and ought to be a succor in terms of encouragement and financial support have become an additional burden.
Please understand this...there is absolutely nothing bad for a lady be a graduate or not to want, hope or desire a rich or financially ok guy...which lady will not want that?
But it gets even crazier by the day cos most of those ladies who have no opportunity of bagging a degree are unbelievably hard working as we can see many of them doing one thing or the other legitimately to be financially independent while many acclaimed graduates just hope for one unfortunate maga to buy them..how sad.
Ok lets take a look at this..In Nigeria, both the male and the female child go to the same private or public schools right from nursery to tertiary levels,we had the same educational qualification because the last time i checked the University as well as polytechnic degrees are awarded to both male and female...
We go through NYSC together and start looking for jobs in the same labor market in the same country. It is even easier for a female graduate to get jobs compared to the male folks yet these same ladies expect these same guys to be "financially ok" enough to take care of them HABBA!
What happened to equal opportunity to be financially ok since we are faced with same economy conditions. What sought of magic are these ladies expecting the male folks to perform? It even becomes more unrealistic and wicked when ladies are looking for financially ok guys in their 20s and early 30s.
This has made me conclude that its gradually becoming a waste of money and resources for some parents to send their daughters to school since they are likely to come out and dump the zeal and qualification just to start scouting for "financially ok guys" before they can think of making a headway for themselves in life.
So if that is the case, there is no need to get a degree since they don't need that to get a rich guy as they can use their natural body degree to achieve that thereby saving the parents hundreds of thousands of naira.
So i am advising every Nigerian parent to ask their daughter this vital question before spending a dime on her tertiary education and beg her to tell them the truth...
"Are you ready to go to school and acquire a degree to become self reliant financially or are you nursing the thought of going to school and latter come out to start looking for a rich guy or financially ok guy"?
Be observant to the way she answers and make up your mind.

Christianity Etc › Re: The type of wedding ceremony most acceptable by GOD. by ChikezieU(m): 6:33pm On Jan 23, 2016 |
Toks2008: This is a very sensitive and twisted issue that needs to be approached cautiously and intelligently.
I have read in many places where people have expressed contrary views on this all time important issue. I have seen where a lady have asked if she can move in with her husband after traditional wedding?,i have seen a case where a lady insists that until a man does the white or church wedding, they are not considered married before GOD.
I have even heard many people stating emphatically that as long as a lady's bride price have not been paid then the lady is not considered married to the man and so many other discrepancies too numerous to highlight.`
Now the big question is what exactly is the module for a wedding ceremony and what ceremony really is ordained by GOD? When can GOD acknowledge a man and woman as married?is there any part of the Quran or Bible that stipulates a direct guideline of how a marriage ceremony must be conducted to be legitimate in GOD's eyes?
I will quickly answer this from the Quran and Biblical angles.
1.From the Quran:Prophet Muhammad (S) considered simple weddings the best weddings:'The best wedding is that upon which the least trouble and expense is bestowed". (Mishkat)
The Quran wedding ceremony module is simply hinged on Mutual Agreement of Bride and Groom called Nikah.
Marriage (nikah) is a solemn and sacred social contract between bride and groom. This contract is a strong covenant (mithaqun ghalithun) as expressed in Quran 4:21. The marriage contract in Islam is not a sacrament. It is revocable.
Both parties mutually agree and enter into this contract. Both bride and groom have the liberty to define various terms and conditions of their liking and make them a part of this contract.
2.From the Bible:I am very sorry to disappoint those who live by "my pastor said" or "my parents say" to empty their heads of every man made philosophy and get this straight...there is no place in the bible where white wedding, traditional wedding or even court-wedding was ever mentioned and infact there was never a place in the bible that gave any preferred wedding ceremony and the issue of bride price was never mentioned as a yardstick for marriage but a punishment for rape and infact you can pay the bride price and still not allowed to marry the lady because you only paid a fine for rape-exodus 22:16-17:
It is quite absurd that today, many people have the erroneous belief that until all the three forms of wedding is done then GOD has not ordained such and while some say until a church wedding is conducted,GOD will not bless their wedding and i just look at the myopic mindset of these ignorant people and wonder where on earth they got that wrong doctrine from.
There is one scripture that sums up the steps to follow in any form of wedding ceremony you desire to have and that be found in Genesis 2:24: Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and join to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
A.The first step is for the man to make up his mind to leave his parents to be with a woman and start a family together.
B.A couple can be considered joined when they are legally married. The scriptural support typically given for this view is the biblical command to obey the government’s laws (Romans 13:1–7; 1 Peter 2:17). A couple can also be considered joined together in God’s eyes when they have completed some kind of formal wedding ceremony whether in the church or culturally.
C.The third and final stage is becoming one flesh which occurs when sexual act occurs and this is why many people are warned against indiscriminate sexual acts as any sexual act is actually fulfilling the third stage of marital union and many people have actually been married to so many people in their life time.
So whether you decide to have just one of the 3 mode of celebration or you want to do Religious, traditional and court, you are very free. But it is important to note that in GOD's eyes the only thing he recognizes as directed by him is for a man to leave his parents,be joined to his wife and lastly become one with her and which ever way both of you decide to go about the ceremony as long as its not against his ordinances, its perfectly ok.
I hope this makes sense. makes perfect sence bro |

EbukaFran: Rubbish
Without resolving issues of the past, then your future is bleak.
Your history if left uncorrected determines your future
Nigeria needs to defeat public corruption once and for all. That is the most important factor of the failure of this country to achieve its potentials. As of 2009, a Yale Report suggests that since 1960, Nigeria earned $1 trillion from oil revenue out of which $400 billion was misappropriated. That is 40% of the revenue.
We can imagine the % that went into private pockets between 2008-2015. The future generations will never forgive us if we fail to nip it.
The economic hardship Nigerians face today is a result of last minute dollarisation of the country by Jonathan in an effort to win a second term plus a decline in oil prices.
Recovery of some of these loot will help fund the budget and reduce the budget deficit> it will also lay a new foundation for the Nation so that people will know that there are consequences for robbing the country. F9 |
