Ndipe, I don't see the bridge that connects female circumcision to prostrating.  The former is a criminalistic action; a heinous crime that should be outdated.  The latter is simply a way of saluting your elders.   One is an involuntary bloodshed and is usually done without your consent, while the other is voluntary, requires no bloodshed or forceful action.  If you choose not to prostrate you choose to walk away without a bride, simple as that.  We don't always have to feed our culture to the dogs in favor of the white man's overglorified approach to life.

The connection is that coercion is involved in both practices. I know yoruba people whose parents force them to prostrate to every single 'elder' they make acquaintance with, family member or not. some of these so-called elders don't even deserve the respect. That's why some do it anyway(prostrate) and still talk shit about the person. Last time I checked, culture shouldn't be forced on someone. One should voluntarily embrace it, that's the only way it can be sincere.


I agree that the two are stupid for not discussing that before hand but maybe the girl in question isn't making a big deal of it, maybe it's just the parents.

Even if he gets custody of the kids, she won't be paying him anything. It's usually the spouse who earns the higher income who pays. Either way, he'll still have to pay her alimony dues.

@Chiogo, Wish I can have the best of both worlds. The weather is georgeous from November to around april. Hardly any Winter. Definately no snow. Then Five to six months of miserable 90+ degree summer heat. After sometime you just get tired of the heat. Actually hotter than Naija in summer. so I can't really say. other than the heat. I will take texas any day. beautiful homes. good roads, good place to bring kids up.

Yeah, I heard the houses there are huge just like mansions in naija. I guess it has to do with the warm weather. You know it's mostly cold in boston, big houses are a no-no. . .that'd require a lot of heat during the winter. I'll probably visit texas this summer, my aunts live in houston.
