FashionRe: Are You A "Tomboy" Or A Tomboy Turned "Girly Girl" by chiogo(f): 5:12pm On Jul 18, 2009
I'm definitely not a tom boy but people have had the impression that I am(maybe because I like rap music and I played b-ball) undecided But I'm not overtly girly like "Oh my gosh!! my nails have broken" LOL, I don't even get my nails done at the salon - I did my nails myself for prom!! cheesy

I'll say I'm in between, I love fashionable clothes but some girls be forcing it like the picture FL Gators posted of the girl with the sunglasses and hat LOL. I'm still learning to walk in heels, I like 'em but I'll rather not break a foot so I'm starting with little heels first. haha. And skinny jeans are cool, they're good for my body shape - I'm skinny. Definitely won't catch me in baggy jeans. tongue

And yes, I love big bags although I'm tiny lipsrsealed mostly for school though - those calculus textbooks can be really heavy. But I wouldn't carry my big bags just to go out.

I dunno about white people's cook out. . . .ordinary fried eggs is hard for them. . .no offense but black(no matter where they're from) and white people's foods are different. So I noticed.
FoodRe: Is It Only Me? I Don't Find Western Food Tasty by chiogo(f): 11:49pm On Jul 17, 2009
It depends on the kinda western food. Yes, they're mostly tasteless or salty like the mashed potatoes(I wonder what they enjoy in it). My mother buys the packaged ones but it just stays there until someone is seriously hungry and there's nothing else to eat. cheesy

Mac and cheese is okay sha, first time I had it at my aunt's house I was like, "What the hell is this?" lol. As far as western food goes, I'm on that fast food thingy(BK all day!!) tongue pizza too is tasteful. And then chinese food. Other than these, I eat mostly Nigerian food or at least we cook our 'western foods' like spaghetti, rice, etc the 'Nigerian way' to give them more taste. smiley

They shoulda never come on the show if that's the case. . .wth? these heifers only eat, walk around, and mumble incoherent stuff to themselves. I even prefer the ones from flavor of love, at least they're confident. These naija girls no try. angry

Jeremih can sing but I dunno about that song oo. .  I'm not allowed to enjoy that song 'cause of the lyrics.  tongue Anyway, it's no longer stuck in my head.

The remix with Fabolous is even worse. . . . lipsrsealed Fabolous is something else.

I heard R.Kelly recommended/signed the guy into the industry or something. . . not surprised.

They're about to make a song together.

CultureRe: Nigerian Children Ashamed Of Their Names ? by chiogo(f): 9:47pm On Jul 13, 2009
sugabelly:
Actually giving your children Biblical names is still mindlessly copying another culture. If you want to give your child a Christian name, name them Jesus, Mary or Joseph, nothing else.
What do you mean by nothing else? David, Isaiah, Esther, Jacob, Magdalene, etc are not biblical names?

Anyway, I get the other points you're making.

CultureRe: Nigerian Children Ashamed Of Their Names ? by chiogo(f): 5:46pm On Jul 13, 2009
sugabelly:
So I don't believe you should have given your son a Hebrew name. There are no Hebrews, and I repeat there are NO Hebrews that would even dream of giving their children an Igbo name.

Sure, you might say insecurity is not the reason you gave your son that name, but it all boils down to the same thing: Why are Africans so ever-willing to give their children foreign names when foreigners would laugh at you in disgust if you even suggested an African name for their child?

And by the way, it is only if people insist on using their African names that foreigners will learn how to pronounce our names properly.
Actually, some foreigners give their kids African names especially those seeking to find their African roots. Even some whites do it these days when they think an African name is 'cute' without even knowing the meaning. I have a friend from Barbados: her name is Jamila, middle name Ayo. According to her, her mother got them from an African book.

Let's just agree that foreigners wouldn't dream of giving their kids an African name. That's also because they're not the ones trying to make a living in Africa, you're the one trying to do so in their country. Some people will claim inferiority complex bla bla bla but believe me, I'm all for the 'identity' thing and giving kids names from their culture.

You'll agree with me that some Nigerian names can be really tongue-twisting especially for foreigners and yes, you're not supposed to care, they can go kick rocks!! so long as your name has a nice meaning behind it. Wrong!! OK, you can be adamant all you want and insist on bearing your native name, foreigners are going to butcher it badly and at the end of the day when it's being called, it doesn't have the intended meaning. So, why not make it easy on yourself? At least keep the native names nice and simple - some people go on a long thing when it comes to Nigerian names. Giving your child a biblical name is not exactly the same as going 'western' since there are many Nigerians who are Christians. Even Nigerians living in Nigeria bear English names without a problem, all of a sudden it's inferiority complex when someone living abroad does it.

PS: you can't force anyone to pronounce a name right if they find it completely difficult to do so. I can say that since I've been living here, not one person has been successful enough to say my name right. Only the few Igbos, not even all Nigerians much more all Africans. I'm just saying.

If you can't beat them, then you join 'em, right? cheesy

Of course attractiveness should be appreciated, it's not a bad thing now, is it?

Besides I don't think only artificial beauty is appreciated. I'm sure if one is beautiful w/o the plastic surgeries, liposuction and stuff, society will appreciate one even more.

PS: I don't think make-up should be categorized in the same manner as plastic surgery.

See, i've been listening to rap since 1991, and i can tel u a lot about the come-ups of all the rappers on d scene right now.
Eeyah, since 1991?? I wasn't even born then. embarassed

kay29000:
Game was born feb 1979, and jay was born on the 4th of december 1969. That is 10yrs btw then.
LOL, I woulda thought that with your erm. . .expertise on rap, you would know it's not about age. who cares if it's a 10 or a 20-yr age difference? Rap music is just like basketball, anybody can bring the 'Game' to the court depending on how talented you are. 30 is not young either, shoot! I bet Jay-z achieved more at that age though than Game is currently doing.

You say you don't particularly hate any rapper and you go and make this comment:
The 40yr old virgin. He's married to one of the hottest R&B divas. You people will soon come up with more excuses to hate on him. who gives a shit whether he's a virgin and what does that have to do with the issue at hand? lmao. I guess you haven't heard beyonce's 'ego'. smiley

LMAO. Same thing here. "Correct me if I say it wrong. . . ." or " I don't want to murder this name, but the ID# is. . . ."

Once they reach the name and take a deep breath,  I just stand up and say my name. grin grin
Chei, I don't stand up oo; I just wait for them to try their very best. tongue I remember this girl called "Olaoluwa", they called her name wrongly in school and the man was like, "Is that how you say it?'.
