Thats the cage for my kenari bird. I just had put it in temporarily till I find what to do with it.
Canary, you mean. Like someone pointed out, it's a lizard buzzard, a beautiful bird of prey found in Sub-Saharan Africa. Just let it go please. Birds of prey are not meant to be held captive. It needs to hunt and thrive in the wild.

Oh puuuuuleeeez! No language is superior. If we originated the food and named it, then the western world should adopt our names for our own indigenous foods. We haven't tried to rename cheeseburgers and mashed potatoes so garri remains garri. Na we get am, so na we get exclusive naming rights.
EducationRe: Accommodating An Insolent Girl by chival(f): 11:35am On Apr 28, 2021
daveyjay:
Good day NLers, please I need your take on this.
I'm a student in one of Nigeria's prominent public universities.

A girl decided to vie for admission in my school via the predigree programme but she had no accommodation. Because of the relationship between my parents and hers, I offered to take her in from January till now

I offered a roof over her head.

The first night she came, she slept on the floor and I wasn't okay with that, the following night, I told her she could have the bed, I vacated my bed and relegated myself to sleeping on the floor, we can't share same bed since she's neither my babe nor sister. And this sleeping routine has continued ever since then. The floor is my new bed

I gave her my spare key, uncensored access to my kitchen and everything within my legal occupancy.
Cut long story short, last week Tuesday she woke up, had her bath, ate then stepped out briefly, when she returned we were outta water. Tap water of course. She called my attention to it to which I remained calm. Meanwhile I hadn't eaten neither had I bathed. At noon, she came to me that she was hungry but couldn't cook due to unavailability of water, I then asked her if I am to fetch her water??!.

She said she was gonn take food stuff to her friend's place (upstairs) to cook.
I replied by asking how many of her friends had lacked water and brought food stuff to cook here??!

She got angry and took some money and left

That same Tuesday, I went to see Chelsea game, when I returned, I asked her if she cooked but she didn't dignify me with her attention talk more of a response.
I thought it was rude but considered it as one of the many tantrums of ladies

The following morning, she woke up, acted like I don't exist, couldn't greet... had her bathe and left. Returned, unlocked the door, walked in like I wasn't there, ate, left to her friend's place.

On Thursday she repeated the routine, I called her back when she was going out, I asked her if she considered me as her father, brother or boyfriend that she'd wake up and start throwing attitudes...
I made her understand that I am her benefactor.
Hardly did I finish before she left. She returned and continued in same path and that has continued till this very moment...

Last night she didn't sleep at home, when she returned in the morning, she unlocked the door with her spare, walked in, ate, brushed, dressed and walked out without a single word e come be like say I be ghost.

What I did, I changed the locks, took some stuff, sealed my door with strict instructions to the caretaker then moved to a friends place outside my lodge and I've been there ever since.

She has returned and has been calling my line but I've been ignoring...

Now, is my action too harsh or still in line??!
She went too far and your actions are justified. Call her to come pick up her stuff and find alternative accommodation

EducationRe: He Was Sacked For Making Bad Comments On Report Cards by chival(f): 9:37am On Apr 27, 2021
I have noticed an emerging trend. School owners are now more interested in the business side of things than in giving the pupils under their charge a wholesome education. For this reason, they pander to the whims of parents who are actually no better than glorified babies themselves.

In the past, no one would castigate a teacher for making a negative but true comment about a child in a report card. On the contrary, the parent of the said child would give him or her a well deserved beating for being naughty enough to warrant the comment.

This points to how spoilt children of these times are. Is it any wonder then that many of them end up morally corrupt, impolite and without scruples? If I were the parent in question, I would thank the teacher for being observant and then take steps to correct my child accordingly. The times have indeed changed, and not in a good way.

FamilyRe: When Is The Best Period To Introduce A Child To Sex Education And How? by chival(f): 1:50am On Apr 23, 2021
The age at which children, especially girls, go through puberty is becoming lower and lower. Most girls start menstruation around 10/11 these days. For this reason, it is necessary to have that talk with them as early as possible. Anywhere around 8-11 years old is fine, for girls.

As for approach, be blunt and straightforward. Explain-
1. What menstruation means and the implications. Ovulation etc.
2. Explain what sexual intercourse is, and the consequences.
3. Educate your children on the antics used by paedophiles - scare tactics, threats, promises etc

In addition to these, be vigilant and develop a relationship with your children that will make it easy for them to confide in you.

Cuba don't belong on that list because he sucks.
Tyler don't belong because he sucks
Idris is a great actor but he's British not American.
LL Cool J suck as an actor but he's a great rapper.
Steve Harvey suck as an actor and comedian.

Denzel is number 1.

Everyone else on the list are cool.
LL Cool J isn't a fantastic actor, but I do love him in NCIS.

Love them all apart from Steve Harvey and Terry Crews, but I hear Crews is a very nice and kind-hearted fella. undecided
However Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Will Smith, Idris Elba and Terrence Howard are my all time favourites.
FamilyRe: Parenting: Should My Child Have A Smartphone? by chival(f): 11:50am On Apr 18, 2021
I was initially against this, but my husband bought our daughter a smartphone for her 11th birthday. We have Locategy installed on it. It's an app that links a parent's phone with a child's phone and allows the parent monitor and control the child's device remotely. In addition to this, I also regulate her use of it. A portion of her school work is done online, hence the need for the phone.

If it's necessary for your child to have a smartphone, please install Locategy on it to allow you monitor what he/she does online real-time.

I started avoiding them seriously when one of them suddenly cut sharply into my lane, forcing me to swerve to the right. A guy standing by his parked car chose that second to open the door and I rammed into the door. The damage to my car and the other car was bad, but the guy let it go, maybe because I am female. Meanwhile, the keke driver sped off.
FamilyRe: Interesting Facts About Firstborn Children by chival(f): 12:07am On Apr 17, 2021
If you're a parent, chances are you've thought about birth order and how it affects your kids. Am I harder on my firstborn? Do my kids have a normal sibling relationship? Does the order in which the kids were born really matter in the long run?

Turns out it does. Scientists have done extensive studies on family make-up and how it affects not only how you parent, but your kids' health and personalities.

The following are some interesting facts about firstborns:

1. They're Born To Learn.

Is your oldest child a bit of a know-it-all? It could be because of their birth order. Firstborns really are born to learn, according to a 2013 study, published in the Journal of Research in Personality. Researchers at Belgium's Ghent University found that birth order actually affects a child's lifelong goals. The eldest child, they found, wants to "master" or "learn," while the second child tends to want to "win." It certainly goes hand-in-hand with number one, doesn't it? Other studies have also shown firstborns (and only children) tend to pick more academic-oriented careers as compared to their younger siblings.

2. They Are Skinnier.

That same study that found firstborns are at risk for diabetes also found eldest children tend to be taller and slimmer than their younger siblings. Why? Scientists think it comes down to the mother's uterus -- which changes after her first pregnancy.

3. They're Bossy ... If They're Females.

Not only did researchers at the Southern California Child Study Center find bossiness to be more prevalent in firstborns, but they found it to be based on gender, with eldest girls more likely to be domineering than eldest boys.

4. They're More Prone To Asthma And Allergies.

Does your eldest child have breathing issues? It might be because of their birth order! According to research presented at the American Thoracic Society's 2008 International Conference, genes act differently in firstborn kids, particularly the genes responsible for asthma and allergies!

5. They Have It The Hardest.

Tougher on your oldest child? You're not alone! When psychologists from Duke University and Washington University tackled the topic of parental rules and birth order, they found earlier-born siblings are more likely to be subject to strict rules and parental monitoring and more likely to face harsh consequences for wrongdoing than younger siblings.

6. Organised Organisers

Having spent time watching their parents do things in a more organised way than younger ones would; and having been asked countless times to coordinate their younger siblings in observing siesta or getting ready for some activity or the other, firstborns tend to be organised in their personal space whether it’s in their side of the room/wardrobe, in their academics and at work, later in life. It’s no wonder they do well in leadership positions.

Yays or Nays?
I am a first child and every single thing on that list applies to me. I'm amazed.

Some men are mean!
Why don't you allow them to get used to the fact that the daughter is now married!
It's not easy to break a bond like mother daughter.
Anyway personally I could. Never be married to a man with your expectations!
My family remains my family irrespective of marriage. Same goes for my husband's family.
This is why it is important for couple to agree about such things before marriage.
Very sad...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkQ2a_3mB4g
My husband and I had that discussion before we got married. I remember him telling me emphatically that we would not allow incessant visits from relatives on both sides. More than a decade later, my siblings have only visited about 2 or 3 times each, while his siblings and parents visit very regularly and a lot of times, without prior notice. smiley

Christianity EtcRe: Do Intending Christian Couples Really Hear From God Before Getting Married? by chival(f): 9:38am On Apr 11, 2021
My experience - First off, I am not overly religious. Just before I got married, I had two guys interested in me: my husband and a young Nigerian doctor in America. Naturally, most girls would want to go for the doctor. I was praying for/about him one night when I heard a distinct voice in my thought say to me "Pray for (my husband's full name) instead. I was surprised.. At this time, I didn't even know his full name. I later found out his full name was what I heard. My husband was working, but his financial standing was nowhere near the doctor's. I wanted to rebel but I couldn't shake off that voice. I considered that God's direction and we got married. We've been married 12 years.

Ruff Ryders Anthem 98, was in JSS class. We bought lyrics books, took them to school to mime with portable cassette players.

The stress of getting these songs on cassette then, you had to buy empty cassettes, write down the tracks and pay dj to get the tracks for you.

Wasted money on battery for this cassette player.

Having large posters of your favorites rappers on the wall of your room.

You're a king if you can afford any of the hand carry cd/cassette players in pic 2&3 those days.

Nobody go hear word for the whole street.

RIP DMX
I can relate. I did all that. The 90s were lit. You didn't include Angel in the list of great tracks by DMX. Angel was my best. The lyrics are also nice. Been listening to it again since yesterday.
Car TalkRe: What Are Your Funny Experiences Teaching A Woman How To Drive A Car? by chival(f): 9:34pm On Apr 07, 2021
Years ago when I learnt to drive, I went to a driving school where I ended up learning absolutely nothing. The instructor would yell at the students so much, and then to top it all, all we did was drive down a road in an estate and then execute a U-turn. After doing this for two weeks straight, he would present you with a certificate and wish you well. After learning, I bought my car, and realized I still had a long way to go. Finally, my mum taught me. I should have just given her the money I wasted on the driving school. One of my neighbors who went to another driving school at about the same time I did, also had the same complaint.

This woman is extremely stupid. I don't even know where to start addressing this, but my biggest concern is the fact that she brought her child into this and revealed her identity inspite of the controversy surrounding her birth and paternity, without thinking of how it will affect the girl in future. This is gross stupidity.

How I pity her poor husband, having to be brought into this slough of shamelessness just because his wife was shameless enough to date a married man for monetary gains and shameless enough to admit it publicly without thinking of how it will affect her loved ones.
