It is not a crime not to have a boy friend, you should remember however that you cannot eat your cake and have it. You see there is a huge competition going on out there everyday, people jostle for the best genes to raise good kids. Relationships are supposed to be practice matches for the main game in your life which is marriage, IF YOU ARE SO INCLINED!

Its a personal choice, stick with it. Do not expect however that someone, tall dark handsome and loving working in chevron or shell or total would be sitting at your gate and waiting for you to snap out of it and say hey I am ready for you. That's where you would be in for the shocker of your life, like it or not in Nigeria as time goes by especially for women (no pun intended) your "marketability" kinda drops. Not in the sense that you are no longer good enough but just like a 3rd class graduate, you would not even be given the chance. As you grow older also the pool of "good candidates" begin to narrow. You start to work, the number of men who have the chance to see you begins to diminish by the day.

So take your time, but also do not throw away the lessons you have learned from your past relationships, that is what they are there for.

Dear OP,
I have been in your position before, funny enough it was a good learning curve for me. "You don't have a personal relationship with God" she says, and I thought something was wrong with me. I went to church prayed and prayed, begged God to not let her go but alas what happened? She still left, it was one of the many things that made me realize that prayers were fruitless. I decided to embrace my stance fully and gave no excuses for it.

Today though, like someone said I have learned to watch who and whom I discuss my religious beliefs with. I am not stupid enough to be fighting for any cause so I just shut my mouth when I am surrounded by bible touting Christians, I learned that to explain your position you have to gauge the level of intelligence of the person, and you have to pass your point as subtle as possible to the other person. I do not subscribe though to deceiving someone you want to share the rest of your life with. From the very onset before we do decide to go into anything just like checking your genotype I say hey this is what I believe and MOST IMPORTANTLY here is why.

You must realize that by default people think you need church to have a moral code, this is where you explain to her what your own moral code is ( if you do not have one you need one ) and how you see the world. Like me I do not hug the lines closely on either side (being extremely good or being extremely bad), I say it how it is and what it is, the goal is do not deceive her, no matter what she has to know. You see more than anything else in the world we all want to be in relationships with people who first of all feel "accountable" to us, we want to be in relationships with people whose "word is their bond" regardless of tribe, religious beliefs etc.

Having said that the world is not a perfect place, religion is so important to some people that they would not compromise on it. So expect people to run away, you also need to be careful to watch if her answer to you is based on the "running chemicals" in her head and be man enough to end it there and then. Do not also always expect that the fact that someone is not religious equates to the person being good enough and vice versa.

In summary, there are good people and there are bad people, Christian - Muslim - Ifa worshipper - Yoruba - Hausa etc, you have to look if you would be a perfect match, if you can compliment that person and like wise the person complimenting you, I know for a fact that I cannot be in a relationship with myself or someone like me, its gets boring.

ogeelove: Hi everyone. I've been reading this book 'mere christianity' by c.s lewis. If ever one is confused about the basics of Christianity then this book is one to read. I find it refreshing that it does not feed me peoples notions but tells it as it is. E.g thou shall not steal means thou shalt not steal. And why should one not steal? becos we love GOD and we do not wish to cause other people pain and distress. I read the bible and attend church but alas I find that I am at odds with the teaching.
I am at a stage in my life where I am confused about who I am in Christ and what type of worship GOD requires from me. I guess I crave for those days in my youth when preaching the gospel was more about love, compassion and all the fruit of the spirit. Maybe I am being too intellectual. I do not know.
If u've read or do get to read this book pls share with me your findings. Mind you, I do not wish that this post be used for abusive words, self justification or pastor bashing. Peace of GOD be with us all.

I remember when I was confused. So many things made no sense, Christianity or religion I should say just has way too many contradictions. For a brain like mine that needs things to be in syntax nothing made sense to me. Thou shalt not steal you say, did you read further down to see the punishment for stealing was death?

Now, you said that we can scrutinize what God does. That presupposes an intellect that can judge God's actions. And if it presupposes that, you cannot go on to say that we are not on an intellectual level with God unless you mean He is on a lower level than us. But I don't think you mean either because of the phrase, "God-given intellect", in an earlier post on this thread. That phrase implied that the intellect we are scrutinizing God's actions by is dependent on God for existence and thus operation.

If this is so, then God is His Own Judge and can only ever be rightly judged by Himself not us. If we ever judge Him, our intellect can only do so rightly by appealing to His Conception of the issue in question. Therefore, it is not the right approach to declare God guilty of lack of love because He ordered the extermination of whole nations of people for sin when the same God has said of Himself that He is Love. At least, that approach is impossible to an intellect that considers itself God-given, such an intellect would rather ask, "why would God Who has said that He is Love order an entire nation of men, women, children, unborn babies and old people destroyed? How exactly does Love do that? I don't understand."

That latter approach is born of humility, it says to God, "I agree that only You can explain You and I want to understand You, teach me Who You are and what Love really means for it is clear that I do not know." It is also born of Faith because it counts first on a God Who cares enough to answer a question that He, being God, has no obligation to answer and second on a God Whose answers are always true and thus are to be believed and accepted.

God would not answer that He did no such thing as the OT recorded, rather He'd show you the fuller picture that helps you understand how even these "massacres" are actions taken by and sanctioned by Love.

To judge God guilty of a lack of love is to suppose that you know what love is and to do so in the face of God's Own declaration that He is Love is to call God to the dock on an authority that is not Him. In other words, your argument is not upheld on the authority of a God-given intellect. If it is not, what authority is great enough for you to appeal to to arraign the Christian God Who also considers Himself the Most High or the Highest Possible Authority for actions irreconcilable to Love? Simply put, by what authority have you judged God's actions in the OT incompatible with Love and thus called Yahweh a liar?

Well I think your analogy did not sound christ like at all. Forgiveness is the bed rock of Christianity how many parables did the lord give about it, the bible is awash of lines asking y'all to forgive.

On a more serious note I think the sacrifice of Christ was a symbolic event such that posterity will be able to refer to it. In the OT, they were used to sacrificing animals to cover for their sin so by extension this was to be the final sacrifice.

An intelligent mind like yours should easily pick that this sounds more like what man would do and not God, killing Gods own creature and burning it sounds/smells to you like what a God intelligent enough to create this universe would want to appease him?
Why sacrifice at all, just forgive mankind. Why send a flood? Kill innocent kids who had no choice but to not join noah cos their parents refused? Why not make all the bad guys disappear?

Sidenote: I believe life on this earth is not all there is. So, someone dying in this life might not be such a big deal to God as long as the person did all that they were scheduled to have done here i.e. lived a "fulfilled" life. And in Jesus' case, I'll like to think he did.

^to that, I say no - at least not according to our present understanding of what good is.

This is of course problematic because we are limited by what we know. Some questions we can ask ourselves - how accurate, true, correct - is our understanding of what good/loving is/entails? does our understanding of "good/loving" change with time? generation? culture? context? circumstance? etc etc... is 'good' rigid? is it fixed? or is it relative? fluid depending on the situation?

One aspect I can speak to with confidence - when you say why couldn't God just forgive? If someone harmed my family - my husband, or children or parents - and in the court someone stood up and asked me why can't I just forgive? I will not only shoot down the criminal, I will also shoot down the person who suggested forgiveness.


All in all, I wish you well my dear. If christianity is for you, you will make your way back. If it is not for you then you will move on to other beliefs. Still, it is well with you. Godbless.

During my early career I once worked where there was compulsory prayers for everyone by 7 in the morning, I never subscribed to it. For that I would fight with any Muslim to make sure their religious rights were not being infringed upon. This is different, there is a dress code and wearing the hijab violates this code.

Let us make this more practical, if I have a restaurant and a muslim works there as a waitress I would expect them to be neatly dressed in a particular way. Allowing the hijab is mo more a sign of preference than a religious public holiday. A secular society allows all religions to be practised without restraint provided nobody is harmed. If I might put things in perspective for you, as strongly as you feel about the Hijab, there is someone out there that feels strongly about her twin peaks of sheba inspiring the men around her, compulsory or not to your religion is irrelevant and inconsequential, what is important is within the rules and the confines of what this public school has stated is the dress code before you signed your ward up.
I respect that the Hijab wearer feels it is compulsory, no problem. Should that now mean that she should be given a special preference because her religion dictates so? Surely not! If there is an already agreed laid down rule in the school of what a constitutes a uniform, no one should be exempt. If you feel your Hijab is compulsory to wear then go a school where it is allowed as part of the uniform its that simple.

Going to school does not change the fact that public n-udity is an abberation. Please leave it out. Most societies everywhere encourage people to dress up to varying degrees of conservatism. Would you really liken the communities in Brazil who still go around virtually in the n-ude to Catholic nuns?

My friend, an aberration in society is determined by that society, it goes back to what I say is the collective decision of everyone to say hey I would not like to see this in public space, so we all come together to agree simples. If we all agree what a school uniform should be then thats what it should be no preferences to anyone at all.

I believe God's love for us is obligatory, from his own perspective. But from our perspective I do not think it is.

To clarify; Love means a strong positive desire - that you want the very best for someone. But "the best" is subjective to purpose, and to available knowledge. What we might think is the best might not be in the grand scheme of things. Only one who is totally outside the scene can know the entire picture and ascertain what would be the best outcome. We as humans are limited in our scope but such a one would then be God.
