Eguavoen as a person is liked and respected by many people. His coaching pedigree is not great if we're being brutally honest but for sure he will do his best.
I don't expect him to perform miracles at the AFCON winning a tournament requires at least 2-3 years team building and understanding. I expect him to be very bold in this AFCON. Let us play some aesthetically pleasing football to the eye. If we go down let not be said we didn't give it a go.
Truidstar: Eguavoen is a sound coach. We are going to be better defensively. Expect immediate changes in that backline. The likes shehu abdullahi are gone. Musa will remain for purely sentimental reasons. A member if the 28. But rarely play.
TFLASHOGEE: na people like Dem go push Samuel Peter enter ICU that year wey Dem Klitschko beat am enter ICU I rugged I come from Nigeria I dey chop akpu when he reach fight na only you go face am
guy why na?
You just made me remember how swollen Peter's face was that day thorough brushing
So Rohr is officially gone. Has his faults but will always appreciate him for getting the team back on track. Pity his diminishing performances didn't allow him finish his work from beginning.
Eguavoen has my full support as manager but can't really place how he will do honestly don't know what to expect now.
Whatever happens will back the team in highs and lows.
Guy!!! abi na jazz. Once he puts on the GWG lately he plays like the second coming of Ifeanyi Ekwueme
AndSunGorilla: Does Simom have a clone? Because me am not understanding o. He can play like this so why does he keep giving us natural manure each time?
PurpleHouse: He's not even named on the team. Na so he allow laziness and comfort zone kill him glorious career. But them nor dey see this one stone Ooh. Na the ones wey nor get enough opportunity.
Comfort zones has buried more destinies than death itself. What a waste of talent. I have no more pity for him. He could have pressed for a move last season but he nor gree.
I'm not stoning or mocking him, just angry at his love for his comfort zone.
Chief that's the issue Ndidi is and has never pretended to be a creative type. His role which he does very well is to shield his defence. The lack of creativity in the middle of the park is down squarely to the level of talent available at the moment. Wilfred at Leicester works with better CMs so he can leave the creative part to the likes of Tielesmans and Maddison. Even without Ndidi the team is still flat creative wise.
Plus it's not just subjectively looking at his game but also at his numbers. Ndidi's stats over the last few seasons stack up well with the best DMs in the game right now.
IDENNAA: I , personally, don't see these qualities you see in Ndidi. I think Ndidi is part of our problem with SE. I feel he stifles the team creativity. Has not really proved himself in GWG.
Exporting is all fine and good but won't you feed your population first?
You have a family of 7 to feed instead of growing food on your farm you choose flowers instead. The money from the sale of flowers you use to buy food which will be more expensive. Doesn't it make sense to grow food for consumption and export the rest? Even if it's six times more lucrative than food the gain from flowers is wiped off due to the money spent on food imports. Nigeria's problem is that we have encouraged too much imports in areas where we have an advantage e.g. Petroleum, Rice, Textiles etc.
SUFFERInSMILIIN: I am not going to lie here at all some of the price of the heart culture flowers is 6 times what you will get from growing food. I am also a farmer and knows what I am talking about. You plant what gives you the most money on your farm, you cannot do like Nigeria when you borrow 1 billion US dollar to do farming and you only hamfist 1 million US dollar
haqhaqhaq like I said before one of two things will happen after the AFCON he will be sacked or we won the tournament.
nelszx: Seems from all indications, the NFF wants Rohr to continue and he'll lead the team to AFCON. Its worrisome that the NFF can't sack a coach who is underperforming really really worrisome.
Na look we dey look now, it's not only Rohr that will go after the disaster class about to happen in Cameroon. I wish the team well but I'm not expecting anything from them with Rohr in charge
lol that's so true. Unfortunately the ignorant ''hot takes'' would have fouled the air so much that any intelligent contribution afterwards would be seen as conspiracy or ''defending'' govt.
Just to tell you that on Nairaland, the ignorant buffoons are the first to jump at topics and demonstrate ignorance and lack of substance. You probably need to get to page 3+ (on the average) before you start seeing sensible comments
I disagree a bit with how you listed your distinctions.
You can be below average but not piss poor. For instance Ekong is below average he will give you 5/10 performances but not usually horrible.
You can't be average and be considered good in football terms. Mikel was good never average for example.
Above average can never be equated to excellent. Above average is like saying that ''bros dey try sha'' while excellent is world class levels
TheLoneCitizen: There are only three distinctions in football.
Below average. Poor Average. Good Above average. Excellent.
A world class player is an above average player who has performed consistently at the highest level. An elite player is a world class player who has achieved consistent success at the highest level.
So I don't understand where you are headed, because I never said anything other than this.
Rafiki all this story you listed doesn't make sense if your country still relies on food aid to feed your population. And please don't come with the lack of arable land excuse. If you have space for flowers you should definitely prioritize some to grow some freaking food.
Mkenya2019: Dream on. Ghana can never teach us anything serious.
Twenty-eight of the cultivars were grown in two to five countries each during the 2013/2014 main crop season. Most notable among those were DK8053 (reported from Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia); ----Kenya Obatanpa (Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Uganda, and Zambia); - -Ghana PAN53 (Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Ghana); SC513 (Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe); DK8031 (Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and Mozambique); ---Kenya ZM521 (Ethiopia, Angola, Malawi, and Zimbabwe); PAN67 (Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia); ---Kenya and SC627 (Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe).
70% of maize grown in Kenya comes from the Ghanaian breed Obatanpa GH.
In Benin, they call it Faaba Togo and Mali call it Debunyuman Guinea, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Senegal call it SAMMAZ 14 Mozambique (susuma) SA,Uganda,Ethiopia,Zimbwabwe , Swaziland, Malawi
This breed is grown in 47 out of 54 African countries.
His struggles in France reduced his value in my eye a bit. I think his problem has to do more with his attitude and not his talent level. I have seen glimpses of his ability that makes me think he can massively improve.
andrewbaba44: Onyekuru is an average player ,no need of all these long talk
Bruv which raised bar has he struggled at? Is it the AFCON? Even the WC you cited he was injured and didn't play much in 2014. Even his below par 2018 performance he still managed to score a goal and assist
jihday: anytime the bar is raised higher Moses tend to struggle, see 2014 and 2018 WC. Bringing him back isn’t necessary IMO
At least Vicmo used to be heavily involved in our AFCON and WC qualifiers that year Boateng no do shishi for any qualification match just to come enter squad with him yeye sense of entitlement.
SerVik: I also agree that the squad should not be closed against those who did not contribute to qualification, especially if those players were not invited during the qualification phase. But you have to agree that this Victor Moses case is similar to Boateng of Ghana, and who is to say he wouldn't abandon us again after the world cup?
Egbon have you watched Vicmo in the Europa league this season? Honestly he still has a good amount of skill left. Moses might not have the blistering pace of 2013 but his football brain and intelligence is still top notch and hands down better than any of our current wingers.
Icon4s: For all these talks about the recall of Victor Moses, I will say ' Victor Moses of 2013 is not the Victor Moses of 2021/2022'. His pace and direct play really counted much for him then, just also like Ahmed Musa. That blistering Pace of Victor Moses is no longer there. I can bet he would struggle if recalled.
The current team is not lacking in number of wingers, so please, Rohr should focus more on integrating a more promising Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure into the team. Instead of recalling Victor Moses.
Men watching those clips gives me goosebumps. That Algeria and Cameroon match were definitely one of the best individual displays I have seen from a SE player bar 1994 set and Mikel in 2013.
Men Mikel and Vicmo deserve serious props for being the spine of a team that basically had no fullbacks, goalkeeper or consistent striker. Without those 2 no way would we have qualified for Russia.
12large1: It all started in 2013 when the late Keshi eagles were highly unimpressive at the group stage vs zambia, burkina faso and was touted to be eliminated by the star studded ivorians. A certain victor Moses thought otherwise. He controlled the tempo of the game and delivered a world class performance
Moses was Nigeria MOM and player of the tournament in 2013…. Notable mention to emenike, mikel, Onazi, enyeama
2018 WCQ…. Nigeria is drawn against the number 1th ranked team in Africa (Algeria). 5 times ANC champion (Cameroun) and Former ANC winner (Zambia).. everyone gave up on qualifying for that World Cup until moses showed up again
Summary, when it comes to African football, victor Moses is a King and he will walk into SE 11…. Against international teams worldwide (there’s a doubt)
Ighalo return was simply for experience substitute and motivational purposes but Victor Moses own is NEEDED. He will walk into that 11
Agree 200%. His imminent return brings needed cutting edge and experience. Despite being retired for almost 3 years Vicmo is still our best performing winger.
