Chief I honestly think Vicmo can still do something in this squad. He has that big game mentality which we will need facing bigger teams. If our wingers were killing it with the SE I wouldn't insist we should recall him.

My personal 28-Man list for AFCON

Goalkeepers

Maduka Okoye

Francis Uzoho

Daniel Akpeyi

Defenders

Ola Aina

Tyrone Ebuehi

Chidozie Awaziem

Leon Balogun

William Troost-Ekong

Kevin Akpoguma

Calvin Bassey

Zaidu Sanusi

Midfielders

Wilfred Ndidi

Frank Onyeka

Joe Aribo

Alex Iwobi

Alhassan Yusuf

Ovie Ejaria

Samson Tijani

Attackers

Odion Ighalo

Paul Onuachu

Kelechi Iheanacho

Taiwo Awoniyi

Ahmed Musa

Victor Moses

Emmanuel Dennis

Samuel Chukwueze

Chidera Ejuke

Moses Simon/Ademola Lookman

A few thoughts behind my selection. Goalkeeping department pretty much picks itself. Defense doesn't need more than 8 guys honestly plus we have guys amongst them who can play multiple positions so no reason to add any extra numbers. Ekong for now should be given a nice seatbelt on the bench.

Midfield first four names are a no brainer but after them not much else. Yes we have talents but they aren't any obvious ones that stick out so I'm just picking the ones who might be able to do the job. I included Tijani because I feel any squad going to a tournament should always include a young prospect. Not because he might necessarily play but so he can learn and know what tournament football is all about before he's mature for the next competition.

The unfortunate absence of Osimhen has made me include Ighalo. His experience will come in handy to help the other strikers plus he's in decent form. I'm optimistic between KC, Taiwo and Onuachu one of them will step up to the plate. Victor Moses if he agrees to return is absolutely needed. Vicmo still has big game mentality which is essential going into a tournament with the magnitude of the AFCON. Musa presence is a given. Whether due to Captaincy, 'federal character' or 'experience' I have made peace with the fact that baring injuries he will be selected. Not sure who to pick between Simon and Lookman. On one hand Simon has been one of our better wingers when talking about club form but his awful performances in the GWG lately has me doubting if he should be going to Cameroon. If Vicmo declines to return then Simon will take his place.

Whoever is going to handle the team has an absolutely stacked attacking talent to work with even without Osimhen so should make good use of this obvious area of advantage.

I'm sure Alex is as well grin.

Looks like Rafa is not the right fit for them. Hiring Ancellotti was a step in the right direction unfortunately they have regressed since his departure.

Impressive CV but what is his coaching style and philosophy?

TheLoneCitizen:
Oh I understand.

I know you selected Amunike already.

But Nigeria's Eddie Newton has expressed his interest in the Super Eagles job. PRK.

He has achieved milestones at every club he's coached.

In his first managerial season, he finished 3rd in League One behind Leicester, MK Don's second highest finish in their history.

In his second job, guided West Brom back to the EPL.

At Chelsea, he won them the Champions League and FA Cup in one season.

Just last year, he won Trabzonspor their first trophy in 10 years. He was sacked because of FFP and Trabzonspor couldn't afford new signings.

He is currently director at 2020 Champions, Basaksehir.

What do you think?

Mikel 2013 is as close to the best I've ever seen him in the GWG. Creative, unmovable and inspiring. Watch the game against Uruguay in which he scored he scored dude was really on top of his game.

Personally I think the tempo and style of the EPL really hampered his growth as a complete CM. A slightly slower and more tactical Serie A might have done him wonders. Credit to him that despite not reaching the heights many of us expected he still had a very good career better than most players.

This was how Messi fans said copa is roadside trophy and that messi doesnt need it. Now that's the same trophy many are saying France Football used to edge out Lewandoski. Haba!!

Funny thing is Messi doesn't feel any Trophy is irrelevant. Check even copa del Rey celebration. My crux is they had to scatter Copa America calendar to increase the chances of messi winning it.

Again. Balon d'Or wasnt open to non Europeans in Maradona days, abi?

I bet you, since it was more clinical then than now, Mara would have won 9. I lie? Even some African stars asides George Weah would have won it too.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:43pm On Nov 30, 2021
You are not given awards out of thin air. Actual work and numbers back up awards not bias and who you like. Modric at the WC was just there nothing spectacular. CR7 in 4 matches did more to win the player of the tournament than Modric that went all the way to the final. Who did Modric even face sef? Nigeria, Iceland, poor Argentine team, penalties wins against Denmark and Russia, England? abeg abeg

Sneijder I repeat performed excellently in the biggest football tournaments of that year including the WC where he scored 5 goals. The same tournament Messi couldn't score a single goal.

I respect Iniesta please don't set him up for dragging. At least Andreas picked good moments to shine unlike Modric who did nothing in UCL and UCL final.

SerVik:
You see, unlike you, I do not use only numbers to tell me what I watch with my eyes, if I did, I'd probably be among the lazy football fans who believe lampard is better than iniesta.

See, if you watched the 2018 world cup and honestly don't believe that modric played the most significant role in taking Croatia to the final then maybe we should not be having this conversation.

My point from the beginning of this is that modric had as much impact in 2018 as sneijder in 2010, and if you believe sneijder deserved ballon d'or in 2010 and modric didn't deserve it in 2010 then your bias should be glaring to you.

You speak of numbers, if we pull up Messi's numbers from that year, will sneidjer's hold a lamp to it?

Even Yar Adua shame small when he win election na!

TheGoodJoe:
No. CR7 was magical in the League and Champions League. Then went to the World cup and had an impactful presence for his national team.

How a guy he beat repeatedly for man of the match awards in the league and Champions league because of an impactful world cup he did not win gets to win Ballon d'or is criminal. They were not mates.

This was madness.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:11pm On Nov 30, 2021
You must show me actual numbers not popularity contest this is not Nigerian elections.

Sneijder had the highest number of assists in UCL, man of the match in final. WC highest number of MOTM Awards, joint highest goal scorer
yet he's undeserving?

Modric was he Madrid's best player that year? Player of the tournament that lost world cup final cheesy how many goals did Luka even score or how many MOTM performances did he win to be named player of the tournament? UEFA best player that had less assists than James Milner grin grin grin abeg no use laugh kill me

Milito that scored 6 goals behind Messi and CR7 just proves my point how ridiculous the awards system is.

SerVik:
Sneijder lost UEFA player of the season to milito, lost world cup player of the tournament to forlan but deserves ballon d'or.

Modric won UEFA player of the season, won world cup player of the tournament but didn't deserve ballon d'or. Got it. Loud and clear.

Better season indeed CR7 scored 30 plus league goals that season Ribery 10. CR7 finished 2013 UCL highest goal scorer with 12 Ribery scored only 1 goal grin true true Frank shine well that year cheesy

If you then want to use trophies won please use the same energy to remember Jorginho.

andrewbaba44:
Them Dey bring 2010 but they act blind to 2013 ,when it was all clear there

Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 12:18pm On Nov 30, 2021
Modric example and that of Sneijder is not the same. CR7 had also won the UCL that season was even more instrumental than Modric for Real Madrid. At the World Cup Modric wasn't the obvious best player of the tournament so how they decided to give him the Balon d'Or only the organizers and people that voted for Luka can decide but don't forget Ronaldo had a rape accusation hanging over his head which maybe scared voters.

Sneijder I repeat performed excellently at two of the biggest football spectacles for that year no one would have batted an eyelid if they had given him the Balon d'Or for 2010

SerVik:
Fast forward to 2018, modric had almost the same season as sneijder 2010 and majority of football fans said Ronaldo was robbed.

It shows that many people didn't genuinely believe sneijder should have won that award, they were only angry Messi won. Give that award to Ronaldo and the conversation would be different. We saw it in 2013.

How is it even a debate?

forgiveness:
Sneijder was the second best player behind Forlán, no 1 assist in UEFA Champions league, motm in the UEFA champions league final, UEFA Champions winner, joint top scorer in the World Cup, most motm in the World Cup, won the league, won Copa, etc.

What did Diego and Forlán did to deserve it? Even Messi never deserved it.

Yes Sneijder wasn't Inter's best player but he contributed. Plus his performance at the World Cup that year clearly showed he was deserving of being named world's best player. Performing at two of the biggest grand stages of world football and still not being considered? Haba mana!

SerVik:
Going by your logic, sneijder wasn't Inter's best player in 2010

That's the thing no can clearly point out who was Munich's best player that year because it was a collective effort of guys like Ribery, Muller and Robben etc.

The same way Chelsea won through collective efforts of Mount, Kante, Harvest, Rudiger, Mendy, Jorginho grin and everyone else.

If you are capping for Ribery then why are you against Jorginho?

Sneijder won UCL that year na!

Ribery wasn't Bayern's best player that year. CR7 and Messi had almost equal records that season but Ronaldo edged it.

andrewbaba44:
Okay ,why didn’t you say Diego Forlán deserves it or David villa with 5 goals and the trophy

What about the ballon d or cr7 won 2013 without winning anything ,I guess Ribery didn’t deserved that one

For your info Messi deserves the 2010 ballon d or and if there was anyone else who should win it then it should be iniesta

Both of them didn't win prestigious European trophies so their names don't figure in this debate.

Now Donna won Euros Mendy didn't participate. Mendy won UCL Donna didn't participate. 1-1 abi?

So what can we now use to separate them? Their records for last season and Mendy clearly bests Donna no argument.

Thank someone posted Mendy and Donna's stats for last season. Edourd trumps him so how were they able to give it to Donna?

andrewbaba44:
Many of you didn’t know donarumma was seria A best goal keeper last season

Donna won seria A best Gk and won best GK at the euros and also won the player of the tournament ahead of midfielders strikers defenders but yet he doesn’t deserve the award ahead of mendy because mendy won the champions league best Gk ,same mendy that was not even close to Ederson at the epl last season
