chief no need to start pressing panic buttons. The fate of the team lies in how offensive we can be which the SE list for the qualifiers largely addresses. I'm also not comfortable with our threadbare defense but even with our complete defense at the AFCON SA nearly got a shock result over us if not for a bit of good fortune. As long as the midfield and attack will repeal and keep the bafana bafana bogged down I'm not too worried about the back line. Aina and Ekong's omissions stick out like a sore thumb my guess is that they are both not completely fit. After all said and done this squad list is still good enough to get the job done against SA and Benin no excuses. Wish the team all the best. Marjoribanks: Haa! We don enter one chance! Ajayi, Awaziem, Tiami, Bassey as CB against SA? lol! No left back?
If Bassey get injured, please who will play the left side? This Finidi sick I swear!
Bruno completed 90 minutes this weekend but decided to invite one Sodiq based on these quack journos recommendation.

I watched the press interview he didn't say anything unduly controversial just indicating that the senior players as long as they are in the team will continue to form the leadership of the group which is normal with every team. I think the media is just looking for unnecessary click bait where there's none. humility33: The press conference he gave shows what he has to offer and his comment on the captainship in the super eagles
The problem of the super eagles is not even leadership but team strategy ànd tactics......that best suit our players.

Honestly I think we all need to chill and give Finidi breathing space to do his job. What has he done or not done well to be rushing to judgment 'he know be am at all?' George is one of us who needs all the support to succeed not constant second guessing at this early stage of his reign. Don't misunderstand me I'm not saying he shouldn't be criticized when he does something wrong but let's give him the benefit of the doubt. humility33: NFF for just close eye give that pep former assistant super eagles job
This Finidi nor be am at all I just want the likes of Lookman and Oshimen to miss out on another world cup |

Chief I don't understand why you're disrespecting Boniface who's currently the highest goal scorer in an amazing team like Leverkusen. Kudos to Guirassy however lack of trophies will count against him. If he had done well in AFCON in terms of goal scoring yes he would have had a big shout. Your argument is like saying Harry Kane is favourite to win Balon'dOr ahead of Bellingham or Vinicius because he scored 40 goals plus this season. Marjoribanks: Where is the list? lol! Boni is highest on the list based on? When Guirassy is there? The highest scoring African in the top 5 leagues. Scored again today. That is 26 goalsss!! Hakimi & Osimhen will even be higher! |

HakiWHAT? Why should a ghost worker in AFCON, Ghost worker in UCL, and a activity former in Ligue 1 be worthy of a APOTY nomination? Salah has a big shout but I think Lookman, Osimhen, and Boniface could take it. Kudus, Guirrasey, and maybe Haller deserve honourable mentions. Marjoribanks: APOTY 2024 top nominee as at now are: Lookman (top favorite), Osimhen, and Hakimi! You can take this to the bank! |

There's no doubt that JayJay was an incredibly talented player infact I would put him in my all time top 10 greatest Nigerian players but let's call a spade a spade and not just a farming implement. Okocha wasn't as efficient and effective as he could have been given his immense talents. His propensity to hug the ball too long sometimes disrupted the SE attacking flow. Watch the USA 1994 games where he didn't play and compare to the Italy game. Even the 2000 AFCON watch the semifinal match against SA where he was suspended then compare to the other SE games in the tournament to get what I mean. daveP: Exaggerating plenty gaan. Guy was quick with great passes when he sae an opening and hesitant when there was no opening. He didn't get dispossessed and yet Nigerians make him look like some Uchebo on most occasions. If the chances he created ended in us winning that game, the narrative would be "JJ was phenomenal"
Nobody talks about the wastefulness of those he was passing to in finally 3rd from deep. Smh. |

Siasia was more impactful in the SE than Kanu. Was a good foil for Yekini in the early 90s. His performance in the 1994 is overlooked due to the disciplinary wahala he had with a Westerhof before the second round match against Italy. His more mature interpretation of the midfield role at the USA 94 WC really gave the SE a cutting edge unlike the playing to the gallery jayjay in his early days. I can remember a handful of games that Sia1 came up clutch for the SE. Marjoribanks: I was familiar with his story! He did not play any AFCON until 1992. That is my point!
How then can I rate such player ahead of Papillo? |

Na that indiscipline matter be the koko. Pesin wey go club the before match. Also remember how he was bounced from the 2004 AFCON squad for smuggling girls into team hotel after SE lost first group game against Morocco. jihday: if injuries did Iroha bad them injuries destroyed Celestine, he never really touched the height he was supposed to, he was also indisciplined too sha. |

Very fair assessment kudos egbon. If I were forced to choose I would probably go for Babayaro because of his technical qualities on the ball and ability to go forward and defend solidly. His longevity and overall impact in the SE is very low which admittedly would rule him out of the best LB conversation. Iroha like you rightly noted was rock solid for Nigeria injuries did him bad. Kog45: I want us to give fair assessment to our judgments regarding the trio.
Ben Iroha was a solid member of Westerhoff era and did so well.He has below Europe career. He won Afcon and had two WC appearances. What could have been his best tournament was marred with injury and Mike Emenalo step in.He had 50 caps and a goal.
Celestine Babayaro remain the best talking of European career. He played for Anderlecht,Chelsea and Newcastle. He played in two WC and was a regular member of eagles in the late 90 to mid 2000 with Afcons appearances. But I will rate his super eagles career average 27 caps and a goal.
Taye Taiwo would have been the best Nigeria LB.He started well with Marseilles but his transfer to AC Milan ruined his progression and he never recovered from it.He played in a WC and had Afcon appearances. He had good eagles career with 54 caps and 8 goals.
My submission, based on Europe career I gave it to Celestine Babayaro…..On trophy I gave it to Ben Iroha cus he was part of eagles that was ranked 5th in the world…..Ranking Taye Taiwo the best eagles LB would bring debate but If he was part of 2013 Afcon team he would have been adjudged the best cuz having 54 caps with 8 goals showed how solid he was with eagles.
I hope to see emerging talent that will break Iroha,Babayaro and Taye records in eagles. |

Dude you crack me up I've been disposed to Finidi being the SE's coach but I won't lie the Mali friendly sowed seeds of doubt in my mind if he was up to the task. Hopefully the NFF will back him up with competent back room because no doubt he has a talented group of players to succeed. Amuneke I feel still needs to prove himself in another coaching role. If he stays the course he will get his chance with the SE one that day. Oasis007:

Like wetin. They said Finidi doesn't get UEFA Pro, we dropped Link, they said na Lie. Where is the Link that proved Amuneke gets Pro and Masters?!
They said Amuneke is drenched in the pool of tiki-taka, same as Finidi cos he was made in Ajax. As a player, Finidi is far more successful than Amuneke. He is a UCL Winner and also won other Trophies that Amuneke didn't even smell as a Player.
As a youth Coach, he managed a spanish U19 Club [not even U17] for 5 years. Guess what?! Spain is home of tiki-taka. As a Men Coach he has won a League, as in a League for God's sake!
He is technically a foreigner too, coz he is also a spanish. LOL! |

The undisputed starters in the SE right now based on current form and impact for club and country are Nwabali, Ekong, Aina, Bassey, Onyeka, Osimhen and most definitely Lookman! Boniface based on the tactical set up can be a starter. Iheanacho on the other hand has dropped to be an impact sub. Meliforme: In my appraisal Ademola Lookman can be rightlfully benched for the likes of Victor Boniface and Kelechi Iheanacho because the duo interprets the SS role better. |
