Comrade it's ok off the mic grin

However their shortcomings you can't deny that they blazed the trail for the Keshis, Yekini and co.

LOOL You and this anti-Nwakali agenda ehn grin

In all seriousness you make solid points about being cautious with the hype we place on a player we have barely got a look at especially as regards the SE.

The only area where me and you might differ is if he deserves a call up. Next month friendlies are coming up so let's see how he performs. The worst that will happen is he drops a stinker which all of us on this thread will see with our korokoro eyes and the matter dies a natural death. On the flipside he turns out to be half decent in SE colours who could be reliable at least for the short term.

charlesemeka85:
a player that haven’t done anything significant since he left the shores of this continent over 7 seasons ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What they do is to stream Chaves games every weekend and their major focus is to measure his passes whenever he delivers one 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Them they use tape stream Chaves games just to measure nwakali’s passes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Imagine the Chrisantus boy I posted about an hour ago. He just spent a year in spain, from the 5th tier heading to laliga in the summer

Maybe the kid’s jazz man strong and he needs to recommend him to nwakali 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well said unfortunately Emilokan is behaving as if the presidency fell on him in error. People are getting more agitated by the second and they won't be patient with him for even one month because of the biting inflation at the moment.

GeneralDae:
I swear. They seem to think their Government performed some kind of magic in 2022 to stop their currency slide then.

It was simply because they pushed forward most of their interest payments on debts as recommended by IMF which gave the Govt some breathing space and indeed the currency. IMF package also gives investors confidence normally to buy more of that local currency and bring in the dollars.

Nigeria can raise Eurobinds today at once and dollars would flood the market but this is like postponing the problem into the distant future and incurring more foreign currency denominated debts for the future.

What Nigeria would do is sell assets of NNPC, sell some electricity assets. sell the refineries and these talks are ongoing but are medium term solutions not short term solutions.

We need some short term solutions aside Eurobonds.

Nigeria would also need to do something about crypto because 56 Billion dollars from Nigeria went into crypto in 2022. We need to integrate crypto somehow.

Finally BDC's have to be reduced to only a few licensed ones at the airports. Naira cards should become fully functional for FX but with limits.

Honestly it beats me that we're still doing d**k measuring contests on top the same time wahala we're in. I would think Ghanaians would be more humble considering how their country's government have been defaulting on bond payments. Nigeria as bad as we currently are we pay our debts.

You read my mind looks tactically sound plus he's young and ambitious. Sainfiet looks like another stop gap measure that may or may not work out Gernot Rohr 2.0

MallamSpicey:
I can't fault Peseiro if he wants to go to Algeria, North African FA's pay way better and are more organized so maybe he will thrive better there. Personally I feel we should go for the Angolan coach if we want to go foreign...although i have a feeling we might go for the former Gambian coach (Tom Sainfiet...the guy has been flirting with the NFF lately.

He's been decent for the Inter youth team this season 7 G/A in 17 appearances. Has also made the bench of the senior team for a couple of Serie A matches.

You're absolutely right that he needs professional matches under his belt to build confidence and experience.

As for senior appearances I'm optimistic that will come remember he joined straight from Remo Stars youth setup straight to Italy just one year ago so he will obviously need time to get used to European football but the Inter coaching crew must have been impressed by his talents to be including him in their senior squads.

Would have been an ideal inclusion for the olympics had the Nigerian football team qualified. Still I think at some point during the year he should be called up to the SE to be evaluated.

Blueelf:
You guys that always mention Ebenezer, have you actually watched him play? Or are you basing it on the fact that he plays for I twr Milan Youth side?
How many senior team appearances does he have? Even in his youth side, what are his stats like? What are their ratings compared to their age Mates in Italian/world football?
This isn't about optics but actual ability. For me, those guys won't be ready till 3-4 years at this rate.
They can feature for our age grade teams but let them not be put under undue pressure for the senior team

Sometimes you also need officiating to go your way.

Who else noticed VAR failed to take a look at a very obvious elbow by Kessie on Zaidu in the first half.

Home town decision I guess because I'm so sure it would have been checked if a Nigerian player did the exact same thing.

Doesn't change the fact that the Ivorians were the better team.

True unfortunately at this point the pressure was relentless. Mental fatigue I guess on Ekong's part.

BascoVanVeli:
He was aiming to block the shot instead of going for the ball. That ball was there to be won. Once Haller got a Touch there was nothing anyone could do. If Ekong had at least gone for the header it might have thrown him off.

Pressure too much but the flick was top class would beat many a defender.

Unfortunately Alex is the convenient scapegoat.

Funny thing is I'm surprised how every body has developed amnesia that in Iwobi's first game where we deployed three midfielders he gave some defense splitting passes and even had a shot at goal.

Alex sacrificed his game for the team in this tournament yes he wasn't excellent but haba he tried na!

Safarigirl has already trashed out the point thoroughly so won't say more.

charlesemeka85:
many of them fail to put into consideration that this is the first time iwobi is been deployed as a DLPM

A role that he isn’t familiar with coupled with the pressure and demands required in a big tournament like the afcon

All their eyes were just on the guy to put a foot wrong so they will slaughter him. The games he played very well none of them commended him but once he has a bad game they all crawl out gun blazing 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Even many paint it like he is in the super eagles till date because of his influential uncle jay jay

And the same influence hv kept him in the epl over 7 seasons since he graduated from Arsenal’s youth team

The two have a share of the blame more so JP cause he didn't do enough to scout for new midfielders. Nwabali that he discovered na fight cos left to him Uzoho would have been in goal.

Rohr for all his faults always tried bringing in and integrating fresh players.

I mean you took a player like Bruno and Raphael to a tournament and didn't give them minutes are they that bad?

She's talking in context of the squad. Nigeria winning the AFCON is expected but in terms of our squad strength nobody rated us top three favorites to win this edition.

All she's preaching is appreciate the boys for their efforts while criticizing them for their short comings.

Morocco with their Europe based star players were knocked out by home based SA players but I should lose sleep because the host country also full of quality Europe based players defeated us in a hard fought match?

Ok.

codemaniacs:
In our team only Nwabali plays in Africa.

Our other players play in top leagues across Europe, so SE has one of the best set of players on the continent in fact top 2 best out of all the other countries. I will place them at #1.

SE didn't win the Trophy because of reliance on Osimhen for goals.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 11:15am On Feb 12, 2024
You've made very solid and logical points.

The only point I would chip in is that I feel JP should have risked playing a three man midfield to push Iwobi further up the pitch to add creativity and help repel the relentless Ivorians who had a field day in the midfield.

The only game we saw a semblance of Iwobi's creativity was when we played three midfielders against Equitorial Guinea. I understand fans frustration with Alex's overall midfield performance in this AFCON but he was clearly a square peg in a round hole because JP didn't manage his midfield options well in my opinion. Is he saying Onyedika was that poor? If so why did he call him up? Even Yusuf that wasn't in his plans at all got games.

Kayyy:
My verdict, we have done well, we have exceeded the expectations we had going to the tournament, no one gave that squad a chance to get to the final, the problems we had in the final today was a problem that was obvious for over 6 months or even our world cup qualification. We had a patched midfield that did well getting to the finals but was badly exposed today. No point feeling bad , I can only praise them.

Now my reaction to this, enough of huge ego of we have too many talents and any player that doesn't want to play for us should not come, it's time to build our TEAM, qualifying for semi finals and Finals in Afcon and loosing should not continue to be a habit, it was obvious we needed ball carriers and runners to help Onyeka's hardwork in that midfield but lacked it soon much. Now we need to go find them. We need 2 technical teams from the nff that should go round and convince players to play for Nigeria, we have to many diaspora talents that we can't just relax and say we can't beg them infact from the English league, Italian league, German league we can build a squad from them, while watching that final today I could just imagine having a runner like Ogbene of Luton town and a ball carrier like Eze along with Onyeka we would counter that ivory coast team like demons. We gave our attackers especially Osihmen little chance., It's time to go and reach out and convince the diaspora talents more

The second technical team should focus on the local league and African league and find talents there too. We should not be patching up a squad with few weeks/ months to the to tournament, there is another Afcon next year we have work to do. Thanks very much.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 10:57am On Feb 12, 2024
We over achieved. We don't have the best set of players on the continent.

Yes we are blessed in some areas like the attack but let's not be dishonest going into the competition we complained about how poor our goalkeeping, defense and midfield was.

So don't make it sound like we were run away favorites.

The performance of the defense and Nwabali pleasantly surprised us that almost had us winning the trophy.

Nigeria is always a contender at the AFCON like Egypt, Cameroon and Ghana but that's not always a guarantee we will win all the time.

codemaniacs:
There was no strikers crisis..

apart from Awoniyi, Boniface and Sadiq.

there is Akor Adams, Gift Orban, Terem Moffi, aribo. e.t.c

The team did not over-achieve..

The SE standard is to win the competition.

If Super Falcons reach the final of WAFCON will you say they over-achieved?

First of all let me send a big appreciation to the Super Eagles for representing the country with pride, guts and sacrifice. Your performance captured the imagination of a nation and we are thankful for the joy you gave the whole of Nigeria these past few weeks. Keep your head up boys your day ultimate glory will come.

Going forward there are many lessons to learn from how the final panned out and I hope the NFF takes their time to note the areas of the team that need improvement (hello midfield) and ensure we draft quality reinforcements ASAP. The team is still a work in progress but we're not far off from having a side that will dominate Africa and compete favorably at the World Cup in the nearest future.

Speaking specifically about the game yesterday like I reasoned with some notable posters before the match there was a possibility of us getting punished if we didn't take the game to the Ivorians and it sadly turned out to be so. I hope JP or whoever will be in charge of the team during the World Cup qualifiers will try to find the right balance between attack and defense. JP showed two extremes that should be balanced out the pre-AFCON attack-centric side and AFCON defensively minded team need to be harmonized to get the best of the Eagles.

Before concluding my post I have to congratulate CIV for being worthy winners on the night. They were good value for their victory and deserved the win based on how aggressively and positively they approached the match.

Kudos also to the hosts and CAF for organizing the best AFCON tournament in living memory.

Do we risk playing a midfield trident of Iwobi Onyeka and Alhassan with Iwobi at the tip? Or run the risk of serving them the usual menu cos all na risk at this stage

You've spoken my full mind D'Law.

Zaidu for all his frailties is full of boundless energy who will always keep the opposition wingers and fullbacks occupied. Aina is a better crosser of the ball no doubt but he doesn't get into goal scoring positions the way Sanusi. Like you rightly said if not for wastefulness and lack of composure Zaidu would have at least been on two goals.

My main concern for Sunday is the midfield. I don't want a situation where we will be soaking up pressure for large sections of the game. Senegal sat back and were punished we shouldn't think how we approached them in the group stage will work out. I think if we take the game to them they'll be caught off guard a little cause I'm sure they will be expecting 'hezbollah' football from us.

Mujtahida:
How can you take Aina from the right where you get to reap maximum benefit and put him on the right where Zaidu offers good defensive cover? You want to attack and score forgetting that if they score you due to frailty at the back and you fail to score, dem don win you. Didn't you guys see that Bassey for the first time in this tournament was not comfortable due to the absence of Zaidu?

It's not that I like Zaidu but I'd rather reap maximum benefit in having Aina play on the right than take 70 percent having him on the left where Zaidu offers at least 90 % defensive cover.

Truth is that in terms of getting into good position on the left Zaidu is better than Aina. It's just his final balls that let's him down. If not he'd have scored at least two goals by now
