dangermouse: Every country has a right to align itself with any legal organization. No country has a right to stop another country from doing that. People who are supporting Putin on this should thread carefully. We all saw what happened in Germany under Hitler. China, Iran and Russia are going that way. Dictators should not be encouraged. Not now or never! This is not about supporting dictators. This is about national security. No sane leader who knows what he is doing, would allow such. Why did the US kick against Cuba allowing Russia have a military base in Cuba, and were ready to go to war over it? It was because in case of a war, it would avail Russia the opportunity to attack America. Cuba had the freedom and rights to align with whoever she deemed fit but the US was going to have none of that. Why do you think Russia should now allow such? |

Hmmm. I still think diplomacy is the best way around this. UK, US and NATO should make an agreement to not accept Ukraine into NATO, and should also make Russia sign an agreement to not invade or intimidate Ukraine going forward. I very much understand Putin's thinking. No matter how much freedom and liberty we think Ukraine deserves, it would be foolish of Putin to trust the west and allow NATO admit Ukraine and now use them as a base to attack him in the future. No sane leader would allow that. Not one who has seen several wars and certainly not a man of Putin's calibre. |

LilMissFavvy: It is not about the party he will come out from, it's about the personality. He can use the APC flag and still perform very well. How will he campaign for people to vote APC after all the ruling party said about him? Just try and search through the internet. The man was seriously rubbished with all manner of preposterous allegations. So much dirt. How do you want him to turn that around in his favor? Parties win elections, not individuals. He would have to go out and campaign for himself and APC, what will he say about PDP knowing fully well he was the last PDP president? Think of it. |

Dead on arrival. As much as I supported Jonathan in the past, I will never give him my vote under APC. What it would mean is that he lacks common sense and principles as a man. As a matter of fact, I would actually campaign against him once he contests on the platform of the APC. What exactly will he tell Nigerians who have witnessed the disaster called APC? Does he think he is strong enough to make Nigerians overlook the fact that under APC, the country has slid into chaos, near disintegration and extreme poverty with insecurity of unprecedented levels in the history of this country? What does he want to tell us? He should better respect himself and not even contest if he is not sure of getting the PDP ticket. He would only end up messing himself up and ruining whatever legacy he had. |

sagitariusbaby: are you aware that Europe has started work another has pipeline from Qatar? Energy prices may go up in the main time but it will definitely crash down once the Qatari project is completed. Russia has bitten more than it can chew. Putin must be made to respect international laws, we cabt afford to have a lawless world power There's no such thing in place. Besides, Qatar has stated that they cannot unilaterally replace and supply all of Europe, their gas needs and have suggested diplomatic solutions to the crisis at hand. Even the US is currently operating her gas exports on a maximum output. Any attempt to divert these gas from US or Qatar to Europe means that there would be shortages to other markets where they already have contractual agreements to supply to. Nobody is winning with these sanctions.

CrownedPhoenix: I used to love Putin. The strong no-nonsense untouchable badass ex-KGB agent, man made of steel. A balance to world power etc etc
I thought and believed Russia to be non-expantionist. Loved that country for their resolute willpower throughout history. From the fire of Moscow to Stalin's snipers in Stalingrad, I have loved this country of theirs.
But in this past few weeks I have made time for reflection on the man Putin.
The respectable demeanor and aura he carried has been reduced to dust, revealing another power hungry, devilish Hitler.
I am horribly disturbed by his flagrant disregard for rules of engagement. One a KGB agent should know better about.
Declare recognition for parts of a sovereign State. And then decree troops be deployed into a sovereign state?
This is unacceptable by any standard.
What a low-life cunning way to invade a sovereign State. Some hype it as a game of chess. I call it con.
Watching a man I so much revered talking nonsense history and making an utter fool of himself on TV. Couldn't believe it's same Vladimir Putin I could argue to the moon & back for.
Except China who's waiting to play same script on Taiwan, anybody supporting this insanity just because they hate America should have his/her head checked.
He is saying all the Anti-Putin activists can gather in one place, declare themselves a sovereign State and have other nations recognize them.
He referenced how a country can not pursue it's security to the detriment of another country, what exactly has he just done?
Well, by this provocative action of his, if Ukraine doesn't immediately formally apply to join NATO, then something is wrong. What are US troops doing in Syria? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Russia - Ukraine War Tension: Live Updates (Pictures) by chronique(m): 2:00pm On Feb 22, 2022 |
Both the US, UK and EU are mad. When the US was sponsoring their co called "moderate rebels" in Syria and providing them with arms and ammunition to fight the Syrian government, the rest of the world said nothing. They didn't sanction the US. They acted like nothing happened. Now, that Russia is doing the same thing, they are busy huffing and puffing. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: USA, EU & UK Impose First Stage Sanctions On Russia by chronique(m): 1:47pm On Feb 22, 2022 |
ocelot2006: I blame too many Hollywood movies and Tom Clancy fantasies. Western Europe's already suffering from high gas prices. Let's see what happens when Russia turns off the gas valves and watch Western European homes and industry freeze when the next winter come. Meanwhile Russia will be supplying China gas via the Siberian pipeline as Chinese industries switch from dirty coal to cleaner gas. They will soon come and tell you how US and Japan will supply EU gas as if it is that easy and cheap. Imagine buying something for 2 naira per litre and claiming it's expensive only for you to quarrel with your supplier and now start looking for a new seller to buy from at around 4 naira just because you are quarreling with previous supplier. How long will it take for you before you start feeling the extra expenses from your pocket? Besides, most suppliers out of Europe like the US are already operating exports at full capacity and as such, it would not be very easy to shake off the effects of losing the supply of Russian gas. Prices would eventually skyrocket and of course, people would start protesting when it gets out of hands. They have forgotten the whole of Europe is just coming out of the economic downturn experienced due to Covid... As it is, the whole of Europe and Russia need each other more than anything. No one would benefit from this crisis. I was reading comments of certain novices claiming that EU and US had placed sanctions on Russia and I laughed. They actually didn't even realize the sanctions are not against Russia's economy directly but were issued against investments in the 2 regions that had just declared their sovereignty from Ukraine. These sanctions have nothing to do with Russia's current businesses with EU and the US. |

IhateYouMan: The US and EU will cripple the Russian economy in no time. Watch this space. You lots don't even understand the dynamics of the EU market where Russia supplies the whole of Europe over 40% of basic energy needs that they can't possibly get elsewhere. Tell me how the US wants to supply gas to the whole of Europe and at what cost? Are they going to construct new delivery channels? You guys just sit on Nairaland and type away without even knowing the dynamics of the things you say. |

ufotty2001: ICAN has lost value.. it is not like before.. now a chartered accountants are earning below 70k.. People who don't know will think you are being pessimistic or hateful... As far back as 2007-09, ICAN chartered accountants were coming to do ACCA so as to boost their chances of getting jobs. There were already too many ICAN chartered accountants in the market at that time. I wonder what it is like now. In a labor market where you have so many people with that certificate and a larger percentage of them can't get jobs, the pay would likely not be very good. Yes there are those earning pretty well but then when you look at the statistics, it's not very encouraging. This young chap has an advantage cos of his age, though. To boost your chances as an accountant, you might need to have in addition to your ICAN, ACCA and CFA. |

Hence, the lack of jobs amongst most graduates. Accounting is just like law now where you have so many charge and bail lawyers. |

As much as I would like to congratulate him, I fear that this his feat might not translate to much. Accounting is one course that churns out too many graduates and the labor market can hardly absorb them even when they become chartered. In my days of doing ACCA, I knew of an ICAN chartered accountant who was earning 30k per month and came to register for ACCA. This was around 2007 or so. Dude was married with kids, was working on the island and living on the mainland. I was always wondering how he was surviving. The luck this chap would have is that he is pretty young. |

Again I repeat, google the US Research & Development budget, it is massive than Russia and China combined. Russia and China have a lot of catch up to do. US is not stopping too.
Check this out, you will have an idea of who the US is. They call them the United States of America for a reason!
