MafiaCity: Hello sir. Good morning. I went on the 17th August, that's yesterday for the second shot like you advised. The lady at the Primary health centre said I should come back on the 21st September for the third. When do you think is advisable to go for the third and final shot, sir? The standard 3-dose regimen is given at 0 month(now), 1month after 1st dose, and 6months after 1st dose. And the minimum interval has to be met for maximum effectiveness. I don't know where the person giving it to you got his/her own regimen from. The 3rd dose should be on Jan 17, 2021(6months from the first dose). Anything from the 4th month(Nov 17) can be accepted, but definitely not Sep 21. |

Homeboiy: I was told that my dad is sick, that he cannot urinate, even when he tries to, it's only a small urine that passes out. He has gone for different tests, a doctor in a particular hospital that he spent 5 days told him to go for native medicine.
After spending 2 weeks taken native medicine, there is no improvement. I did my research and it seems to me that he is suffering from urinary obstruction dysfunction which can be corrected through surgery.
Please doctors, Where can this surgery be corrected in Enugu state and how much will it cost?
Please someone should help me out. That idiotic "doctor" that advised him to go for herbal medicine cannot be medical doctor. There are actually lots of idiots who are not really doctors in Nigeria, but are running hospitals because of the endemic corruption going on there. How can a real doctor not know about obstructive uropathy from BPH or CAP, and what to do about it.? Meanwhile, since you're in enugu, what happened to UNTH? Take your old man to UNTH. Even the routine antibody screening sometimes take up to 2 hours before getting results I was talking about a normal situation, not a Nigerian situation, where a 1hour test takes 1week to be done. An antibody test for hiv shouldn't take 2hrs anywhere in the world. Lets not begin to see abnormal things in Nigeria as the new normal. ALEX182: So I have this American patient who I recently came across. He's a fat dude who is like in his late 40s but has a very jolly and likeable character. I introduced myself and we got talking afterwards.
After a while of chitchat, he asked me where I was from. I told him to take a guess and he said said, you sound like you're Nigerian. I told him (regrettably) that I was Nigerian. He started smiling and told me that he had a Nigerian girlfriend and that we both had similar accents.
He then started telling me recent occurrences that had befallen his girlfriend in Nigeria. He said the lastest story was that she was in Abuja and as she was on her way to the airport in a taxi, the taxi had an accident and she was seriously injured and had to be rushed to the hospital. He said that the hospital demanded money before treatment started and he had to hustle about $4000 and send to her in order for treatment to start.
He said that after a week of her being in the hospital, they wanted to discharge her despite her still being in pain. Because she had exhausted all the $4000 on treatment, he said the hospital had threatened to discharge her on the streets and he was trying to borrow more money to see if he could send it to her so they could continue with her treatments.
He furthermore told me that the girlfriend said that she was a Nigerian American citizen who was currently stuck in Nigeria due to her passport having expired and also due to Covid lockdown at airports in Nigeria. He said she had asked him for $300 to renew her US passport from American embassy in Nigeria.
Another thing that he told me was that just before covid struck, there was a similar pandemic which happened in Nigeria early this year and that his girlfriend had contracted the disease and he had to send her $2000 for treatment. Right now he said he's broke but is waiting for like $2000 disability check from the US government next week which he will send to her as soon as the money clears.
As he was telling me this tale, I was so angry with Nigerians and how they take advantage of people in love to scam them. I wanted to swear for the scammers
I'm at a dilemma here. Do I tell him that he's being scammed by Nigerians or do I continue to be professional and just ignore it. Because I don't want him to think I'm involved with it because these oyinbo people can turn everything on your head and accuse you that is your people in conjunction with you that are scamming him. They are that crazy. The good part of me wants to help him but I'm hesitant that it may turn out bad for me. Please matured responses. Let the American guy know, please. The idiotic girl is even messing up the name of the country and it's hospitals abroad. Which hospital in Nigeria would threaten to discharge one to the streets after a week of receiving $4000 dollars, when staff in most of the hospitals contribute money from their peanut salaries to pay for some patients' bills? You have no reason to protect any idiot soiling the name of the country home or abroad. |

micellgevity: This is 9:22 AM on the 6th of August 2020. We are all standing waiting for the doctors and none of them has shown up. I don't know what to call this. But I believe this has shown the level of inefficiencies in the Nigeria's health system. Worst still, each clinic will only attend to five patients, they say they are reducing the numbers of patients they will attend to because of Covid-19, and this is 9:25 AM already, and the clinic will close by 12:PM. As I am typing this, a receptionist is returning some cards to their owners, telling them to come back next week. Pls, should all these sick people die because of the fear of Covid-19 by our inefficient hospital? A university teaching hospital for that matter. Most of us have been here since 5:30 or thereabouts just to make the list of those that will be attended to. I shake my head for this country. Our brothers from the East will say "Nigeria is a..." You know the rest now. I weep for Nigeria my coun3. I recorded a video of it, below is the link to the video. To watch it, just copy this link O8dXcbezc2o and paste to the YouTube address bar. You guys need to know the difference between teaching hospitals and general hospitals, health centres, private hospitals, etc.. Teaching hospitals are training institutions for residency programs(postgraduate medical training) and research. There are usually morning programs that run from 8am to about 9-9:30am every day. During this period, only the emergency departments and few others function. So, don't go to the clinics in a teaching hospital by 6am, and expect to see a doctor by 8am. The doctors will be in the conference hall for presentations by that time. Patients with emergency conditions during this period should go to the emergency units, and not the clinics. When you understand this little details, which most of you don't care about, some of these complaints won't be coming up. The ministry of health fully knows about the programs, and those training programs are the basis for accrediting those hospitals. This explains why you complaints won't go far, as you're the one whose fails to understand how such institutions function. |

How do you intend to sustain yourself during this training? Also, if you fail to secure a job after the training, how would secure the finance to start your own business? Between going for this HVAC training, and going for an additional training that would enable you as a microbiologist to function as a medical lab scientist, which one would have a better career path. I don't know much about the engineering job you intend going into, but as a doctor, in know that a medical lab scientist can live reasonably well in Nigeria.
My younger brother read mechanical engineering, and from what I've seen so far(I'm still paying his rent after over 6yrs of graduation), I don't think I'll ever allow any of my kids to 'loose guard' into any engineering course in Nigeria.
Anyway, let the engineers talk. |

Health › Re: Most Nigerians Don't Have Typhoid As Hospitals Claim As Widal Test Unreliable by ChybuzzDD(m): 12:54pm On Aug 05, 2020 |
Is it hospital or your roadside laboratories? We've said it here several times that typhoid is not as common as many Nigerians believe it to be, and that Widal test is not a reliable test to diagnose typhoid. To diagnose typhoid with a Widal test, it has to be done at least twice on different occasions, with clear demonstration of rising antibody titres. In Nigeria, they use a single test to do their diagnosis. The confirmatory test for typhoid fever is blood or stool culture, which those labs don't do.
Again, most Nigerian patients only know about typhoid and malaria, and always want to be diagnosed with one or both of these. Diagnose anything other than the above, you'll be fired back with "God forbid; it's not my portion", and you'll feel very embarrassed.
This bad attitude is helping to fuel the typhoid scam and malpractice in Nigeria. |

shegemarle: are you for real, u got a credit alert of 600,000 naira..so how much did u invest, is this ROI for a particular month on a a cummulation of all ur earnings. simply put, u must have invested over 4m.
well i hope u are not planing on reinvesting or increasing ur capital. cos from what i have observed, MBA forex pays ur back ur money monthly and the total is never up to the capital.. except u decide to stop but trust nigerians, as long as it pays then they will keep going back.
if every investors pulls out MBA will go bankrupt and that is never gonna happen so they wont let u all pull out...why will u even think of pulling out when to u, u are making profit on ur capital. how will MBA Forex crash, simple.... if the heavy investors pull out their investment...eg, those investing above 10m. if they decide to withdraw their capitals then how do they pay back the capital of their investors.
let me make this easy to comprehend.... i invest 600k for a 15% ROI in 6 months...calculate 15% of 600k....which comes to 90k per month. 90k mutiplied by 6 is 540k...which is part of ur capital. so after 6 months the greed factor sets in, why not invest more or reinvest? in all over 80% of investors have fund held in MBA...u are just taking a chunk of ur money on monthly basis. not every one wants to pull out. the money remains there. no one is trading with ur money but rather paying u back ur money in instalments, they have set aside a certain amount of money for themselves should the scheme crash which will though.
my advice, after the 6 months, take ur profit and capital and leave...soon the scheme will explode into ur faces.
a word is enough for the wise It's obvious you're a very poor fellow, from the way you were analysing and screaming over someone's money and investment. The 600,000 you just saw has made you run mad. Did he ask for your help? |

Jewel1515: The cultural and religious beliefs that has resulted to the death of many is one of the driving force behind this programme. I know of a friend's Mom that died from a health issue that could have been averted simply because her" daddy's in the Lord" said she needed no surgery. I also know of another who would have gone through a successful mastectomy if not for her religious people, well she died and till date her daughter keeps saying that her mother was killed by her pastors. There are so many things we would love to achieve with this programme, one of which is to let people know that Cancer is not a death sentence especially when it is detected early. And for the lady's a part of them which they consider an asset should not lead to their death. Many women in Nigeria would rather die than have their breast removed but this is not so in some other climate. There is a great need to educate people. A lady died of breast cancer because her husband refused mastectomy for her, according to him what will he suck? Well I believe he is not sucking that of a goat now that he is widowed. In fact, I raise all my four limbs and 20 digits for you! You absolutely understood the problem at hand. A doctor friend in Nigeria just yesterday informed me about a 30yr old female banker and lawyer whom he visited in another hospital yesterday where she was being transfused in portharcourt. This lady was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago with left breast cancer that has spread to her lungs and liver, and is not incurable. She only went to the hospital when the disease has gone beyond her breast. On enquiries, she said she noticed the lump over 6months ago but ignored it, because it was not painful. This wrong notion about pain is very regrettable, widespread, and has led many to their early graves. Breast cancer DOES NOT cause pain usuuslly in its early stages. Pain only comes when the overlying skin has been involved and broken down to cause an ulcer/wound. The type that comes with pain from the beginning(called inflammatory breast cancer) is rare, and occurs mainly in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Now, she has been told about surgery, but has vigorously refused it. Although, surgery at this late stage, won't reverse all the damages already caused, it would help reduce further spread to the vital organs, and remove the chance of it spreading to the skin of the breast and causing unbearable pain. My greatest worry is that if an educated and financially stable banker and lawyer can be this negligent, how about our millions of poor and illiterate women all over the country? There's a serious and urgent need for mass enlightenment campaigns about this disease. |

Jewel1515: We are a media house creating awareness on cancer and we interview cancer Survivor's to create this awareness. You will be doing the world a great favour by telling your cancer story. Please contact us through my DM. Thank you. In Nigeria, there won't be many as they usually seek for care only when the cancer is already advanced. As most cancers are not curable, early detection and aggressive treatment are the only hope of survival. The high rate of ignorance, poverty, cultural and religious beliefs in the country are impacting negatively on early cancer detection and treatment, and this is limiting the number of survivors. I believe the poor outcome of this programme will make you turn your attention on the above factors and encourage you to start campaigns on how to solve them. |
