PoliticsRe: The Fashola Vs Akpabio Thread. by cjrane: 2:03pm On Sep 14, 2013
Fashola is a shameless noise maker. Like his average native Yoruba person. It is an insult to compare him to Akpabio that have been developing his state without any help from the Federal Government nor heavily taxing non-indigenes unfairly, only to deport them after using their tax money.

If the Federal Government of Nigeria had not built Lagos as Nigeria's Federal capital territory and in the process creating our present economic problems by the mindless spending of all our money earned in the oil boom days on Lagos infrastructure, instead of building sustainable industries around the country to help Nigeria develop in a balanced way . Lagos would have been far less developed than Ado Ekiti in spite of Fashola's noise making.

jbaur24: CONSTRUCTION of the proposed shopping mall for Nnewi would commence in a few days time, Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has said.

Obi ,who spoke yesterday at the inspection of the ongoing Agulu Lake Hotel and Resort with two new bridges, said other malls at Awka and Onitsha were ongoing.

“The mall at Onitsha and Awka are ongoing. In a few days we shall start that of Nnewi. We had planned these things and have enough money set aside for them. We shall also start the three Arms Zone, for which we also have enough Money set aside,” Obi stressed.”

Will the Mall be sited at the Nkwo triangle?

That is the most central open area to adequately make the mall centrally located for easy accessibility.

Uba. The Igwe of Agulu, His Royal Highness Igwe Innocent Obodoakor
took a swipe at Gov Peter Obi, describing him as a failure in governance of Anambra state and also a big disgrace and disappointment to Agulu

Agulu cannot boast a single well dualized modern road nor a single

PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane:
ubomez2@yahoo.c:
Thankyou for your proactive move. I would suggest to my fellow AIIAnites that you google ' Ethiopian airlines customer review'. They do not have a good reputation and are third rate in my opinion. It is not merely about opening ticketing offices in the major cities in the south east. As I have pointed out earlier AIIA needs airlines that will inspire confidence in our businessmen and women and is cost effective to fly out from Enugu. For example you have top airlines such as Qatar, Emirates, Turkish, Singapore, Cathay Pacific Airways and Qantas Airways. All these airlines ply the routes that are familiar to our businessmen -Dubai, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and others. The govt should go back to the drawing board and do some proper market research before rushing to introduce international flights just for narrow political reasons. The world today is a small village and economics is the driving force.
Why aren't people talking about Kenya Airways ?
It is also a very efficient and even more cost effective airline that ply the same route.
Again, one European airline
(For Europe and United States connecting via either Douala or Lagos stops into Enugu:

Air France flight : New York- Paris -Douala-Enugu

or

Brussels airline from New York- Frankfurt-Douala-Enugu
) to cater for Enugu bound passengers from Europe and North America will be appropriate.
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 3:51pm On Sep 10, 2013
I wonder if they didn't have enough passengers for that trip and wanted to combine two trips into one?

Anyhow, they should open up a booking office in Onitsha and Aba ASAP! Most of the people i talked to expressed concern about using travel agents to book their flights to China and Dubai via Ethiopian airline, which is often higher than the competitive rates for other airlines such as Emirates,Egypt Air or Turkish airline. Opening up a booking office in these major commercial centers within the catchment area of AIIA will eliminate other accessory costs and make their rates very competitive. Not to talk about the convenience to their service markets located in these cities.

Abagworo: RIP to the dead. I've still not been able to understand Igbo people's love for 4 storey building or there about. I've once been a critique of the buildings which is noticeable in most Igbo towns and villages.
Everything isn't always about tribe. Buildings have collapsed in Lagos,Kano,Calabar, Abuja,Warri etc. Everything isn't a tribal thing.

Why they build tall buildings?, is the same reason why they build tall buildings in places as Lebanon, Palestinian West-bank New York and even Japan.

Any how, with the spate of collapsed buildings in the country, the Government must launch a war against adulterators of cement and importers of fake iron rods.

3ace: I hope he's not referring this as prophetic because it's no longer that USA may strike Syria.
[b]You can call them gullible, naive, easily persuaded or whatever words you think your superb intelligence can muster, but let me just tell you that those of you still playing with the words of this great servant of God will eventually learn the wisdom of some of us who initially doubted him completely, only to eat our words of doubt later through the years. When Prophet Joshua suddenly begins to warn about a rather off the topic issue, be certain that something dreadful is being warned against.

I personally consider Prophet TB Joshua the ONLY credible man of God in Nigeria. I haven't said there are not others, but i said I personally consider him so.

In-case you didn't watch his Sunday service or you are just trying to mock yourself,
TB Joshua is urging restraint by the World and powerful nations from using force against ASSAD regime of Syria. He said the issue inside Syria will be overcome with force being contemplated now, but it will eventually spread violence into more than 5 countries in that neighborhood. INCLUDING TURKEY!

Prophet Joshua is begging that the issue of Syria be re-introduced to the Arab league to seek solution with the ASSAD regime through love and not by sword. It will be a difficult process but it will have far less consequences than striking militarily on Syria by a coalition of nations

The determination of Sambo and GEJ to hand over Enugu electricity disco to their friend and financier Emeka Offor will make the man feel like he does not have to obey any rules since he knows the VP. Besides, such man know man corruption is the reason why previous attempts at privatization have failed.
PoliticsRe: Proposed West Africa Trade Centre To Be Sited At Onitsha by cjrane:
asha 80: cjrane that akpaka forest reserve as you said is a reserve...are you sure it has not been agreed in the state that that forest reserve should not be touched?
My dear, it was made a reserve in the time of Jim Nwobodo in the 1980s when they wanted to build some sort of safari or game village with animals to become a big tourist attraction in the old Anambra state. But the whole idea is simply sick! How do you have a forest reserve for wild animals so close to a vibrant city with human beings? If they had ever gone to Kenya to see how far such reserves are from high population density area, you will see how ridiculous the idea was from the beginning.

Anyhow,Onitsha is one of the cities in Nigeria with serious housing shortages and need to expand and decongest the city center. Part of the achievements of Ngige was moving some markets away from the city center to the periphery such as Nkpor. So that everybody does not need to come into the choked up city center for everything in the world. He also encouraged the electronics dealers to move towards the bridgehead area from Iweka road. Many jobless people or touts(Ndi oso afia) in the choked up Iweka road ended up owning a store in the new bigger site. Mbadinuju had earlier tried to do the same thing by building the Oba Inrernational market to move the medicine/medical equipment people at the bridgehead to that site. He couldn't do it because he was such unfocussed and unserious guy and today, that multi-billion naira market has been abandoned to animals and the ravages of erosion.

The Habitat for humanity masterplan for Onitsha mainly center on the need to build at least 4 new flyover bridges along the Enugu -Onitsha expressway the first between Uga road to Atani road, the 2nd between the MCC road to Oraifite street, between Awka road to Limca road and 4th at Nkpor new parts.

See Plan Here: ( http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CC8QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.unhabitat.org%2Fpmss%2FgetElectronicVersion.aspx%3Fnr%3D2687%26alt%3D1&ei=1G4nUtHeE626sASymoGQCA&usg=AFQjCNEJ3ZffE7hbIN5HYSh7nMETXiwOtw&bvm=bv.51495398,d.cWc )

It is an excellent plan, but for the purposes of this discussion read their recommendation on transportation and housing.
They recognized that for Onitsha to be liveable the current choking of the two major highways with activities and crossing which create unnecessary traffic must be solved. They also recommended a major dual carriage way and bridge to open up Akpaka reserve to link Enugu-Onitsha expressway at Nkpor to Onitsha-Otuocha road and to Nsugbe. Nigerians often run abroad and marvel how "Oyinbo" were able to plan and develop their cities and country into beautiful liveable places! The difference between them and us is PLANNING!.

Except for Abuja, We never take anything called planned orderly development seriously, we think it is too elitist and we must waste our money building slums all over! grin Funny enough, some of the slum buildings cost more than well planned ones we could have! A serious government should have set up an implementation committee to figure out parts of the plan that can be afforded immediately and the parts to designate as short or long term development plan for the city. But,no, the plan will remain what it is, a mere piece of paper. While we continue to build haphazard structures here and there and call it development.

The folly with having a forest reserve for wild animals in a city experiencing such acute land shortage for decent houses for human beings is preposterous to say the least! I am not for another round of madly erecting buildings as we saw in 1982 at the creation of Awada or even creating another slum like Okpoko layout by allowing crazy indiscriminate, unregulated construction of buildings, but an orderly well planned way of developing the area. Just like the Enugu State government has showed us the way in the method it is developing the Enugu Centenary city (Independence layout phase 2) into a well planned beautiful place.

Cairo,Egypt and Beirut Lebanon are regarded as very beautiful cities! Yet the are composed mainly of exactly the type of buildings in Woliwo and Awada layouts! But the building were planned in packs of 5 or 6 highrise buildings, with their own parking lot in the middle and parks where children could play. If Awada Layout had been planned by a responsible government with wide roads and parks for children and basic amenities provided,it would have been the most beautiful, breath taking areas of Nigeria to behold.

I tell you that guy has no point. Meanwhile have you been at Niger Drive to see if the bridge is not being constructed?
Bros, from my description, you should know i must know the place in GRA Onitsha like the back of my hand, So don't get me started.

Peter Obi is undoubtedly the best Gov. Anambra ever had! Willie Obiano might be another technocrat like Obi to get things done too.Perhaps due to lack of funds,Obi didn't do these strategic bridges that would have unlocked the potential of Onitsha.

You and Igbo son can argue because he obviously doesn't know Anambra inside and out.Not me oh!From Omagba to GRA i use my two legs dey waka everyday. So NO BRIDGE IS GOING ON AT THE END OF NIGER DRIVE OR ANY POINT OVER THE NWANGENE STREAM!

^^^Now this is a well thought out, well reasoned proposition! But unfortunately we've never had visionary leaders in that state......to 'think out of the box' and go a bit further in governance than just constructing a few rural roads here and there, and doling out cash and presents in the dying days of their administration thinking no one is clued on to their tricks!
Absolutely my brother!

Even the Anam City project which would have taken off had Peter Obi built the prescribed bridge over Anambra River died under his watch because he refused to build that bridge! Although Peter Obi did more than all previous Anambra Governors combined! Obi was the first Governor to plan for Anambra's future after Emeka Ezeife's initial emergency plans!
PoliticsRe: Proposed West Africa Trade Centre To Be Sited At Onitsha by cjrane: 9:54pm On Sep 03, 2013
ACM10: I doubt if there is any free land in Onitsha to be used for such project. Unless the government plans to demolish residential buildings and markets to make way for the project.
Onitsha does have enough land to expand. Those who do not know the geography of the place will not understand what i will describe. There is a place called Akpaka forest reserve (GRA Phase 2) forbidden by the powers that be from being developed. This area with landmass 4 times the size of present Onitsha, is walled off from Onitsha by the Nwangene stream or river as it is called.Unfortunately, to access further land north of Onitsha, a road must pass through this area.Just look at Onitsha from google earth and you will see the short-sightedness of previous Anambra leaders in properly expanding the city.

The city had been restricted from developing in its northern fringes by the Nwangene River. Unlike Rochas that built the bridge linking New Owerri to the old Owerri, No Anambra government had deemed it necessary to build at least 3 bridges at 3 points (1st. At End of Niger Drive GRA,Onitsha, 2nd at Omagba and 3rd at Nkpor) over that stream or river. If one wants to go to 33 area or Nsugbe from Nkpor,a distance of less than 2 kilometers, he must go round to use the Nkisi road bridge a distance of more than 35km going in a circle! The result of this lack of foresight by successive Anambra govt. was that Onitsha was forced to expand only along the Enugu-Onitsha and Onitsha -Owerri expressways.

The day a visionary leader decides to build these bridges over that Nwangene river, Onitsha will have freed itself from that natural stranglehold and there will suddenly be enough land to build 5 more cities the size of present Onitsha from Nkpor to Nkwelle -Ezunaka!

Only the mortally insane or a mischief maker that will say someone working for a bank he does not own, will take the state's money to enrich another man's business! So, if i am working for Shell, and i get a better job with Texaco, i will use Texaco's resources to enrich shell that i have already left? grin

However,I'm not surprised about such senseless rubbish being said about Willie Obiano. Just take a close look at those saying it! It is the same Yoruba people that pathologically hate Igbo and want Igbo to leave Lagos that are pushing for their traitor Ngige. A man that have demonstrated his unquestionable support for the mal-treatment and oppression of his people so long as he benefits politically from the oppressors.

Yes, the Yoruba people support for Ngige is borne out of a criminal desire to use him as a point man to siphon the Anambra resources which will be directed towards funding their Yoruba party. A party that has made it public that they are totally against every Igbo interest, but need Igbo money to fund anti-Igbo agenda!
