Nigeria does not have much industry and likes to do things backwards. So much money spent on airport before great road and rail or water infrastructure. I have been to Taiwan which is an industrial giant. Their airport is nothing special but their roads and sea port? Massive. That's where you see ships stacked high with containers ready to go out. Their cities skyscrapers everywhere not village houses with dirt paths like Nnewi or 6 storey buildings with filthy gutters like Aba and Onitsha.

Anambra is less than 1 hour drive to 3 airports 2 of which are international. Is building an airport more important than transforming primitive cities with dirt roads everywhere run on Keke that have no parks and disorganized markets where people sell inside 10x10 tiny shops and under steps? When are we going to think like civilized human beings by prioritizing things?

I am expecting the usual abuse about being old, worthless, hopeless and frustrated from the regular idiots on this forum in 1,2, 3

Even after being the Federal Capital territory for many many years, and many years of collecting enormous federal allocation more than 10 times of Anambra's, Lagos cannot boast of anything like the pictures you posted. Yet, it is Anambra you are advising and disappointed that they rose from total ashes after the civil war less than 50 years ago to build 6 storey buildings instead of looking like Hong Kong? grin grin grin grin

Please, Ibadan that didn't even fight any war, kindly show us the dirty 6 storey buildings there, before you even talk of Ibadan looking like Kano.

The airport in Imo state which is near Anambra is a cargo airport. Why is it not in use
Imo state government has been soooooooooo unserious with getting permission for International cargo operations at Owerri. Even to enlongate the Owerri airport runway from 2.5km to 3.5 km to land large bodied cargo planes is treated as a joke by Imo State government.

Most of the people in this forum begged Rochas to use the fact that Imo is the only APC controlled state to get permission for SMICA, yet they simply waved it off as nonsense. Anambra knows it's economy needs a cargo airport and they are making huge sacrifices for it. You should applaud them not throw obstacles at them because Rochas and Hope failed Imo people!

Why isn't Afam4eva arguing that since there is an International airport in Port Harcourt which is less than 2 hours away from Enugu on an expressway, there is absolutely no need for another international airport in Enugu. Instead use the money for building Enugu airport and repair the Enugu - PH expressway so that the journey might be shortened to even 1 hour drive. If you ask that, their argument will suddenly change direction! This is why Igbo pipul are the butt of jokes in Nigeria. They only think about their personal aggrandizement and not the overall good of the region.

I am an Ogwashi man, but i don't feel an airport in Anambra will in anyway threaten or cause the closure of Asaba airport. They have different routes to focus on and different functions to meet. If anything at all, it increases the accessibility of Asaba by air. The same way some of you argued that Asaba airport will cause the closure of Enugu and Owerri airports if allowed to operate. I am still waiting for the day they will say Owerri airport has been shut down because of Asaba airport!

Again, i ask, which state in the southeast deserves and desperately requires an airport to facilitate economic development of the region and Nigeria? Meanwhile, the same pipul losing sleep over Anambra have not extended the same silly argument to Ebonyi airport!

Silly pipul. grin grin grin

We are grooming a failed generation of youths who are not action oriented but blame all our problems on outsiders. It is very bad.
The guy is a bloody Yoruba and comes here to promote their silly "advise" agenda. If you want to know if Yorubas are truly on the fore-front of calumny campaign against airport development in the southeast region, then do yourself a favor and do a little google search on Internationalization of Enugu airport will kill domestic airlines, case on the Unviability of Owerri airport, downgrade Asaba airport because the runway is too dangerous, Anambra airport is an unneeded white elephant project etc. You will find that all those taking their time to dissuade the development of these airports in the southeast are 100% Yorubas. Yet, the same people don't often find the need for such press releases for airports in the north, even when it is clear some northern airports are probably only patronized by the state government officials and in many cases using the federal government resources for their construction.

What is it about southeast airports that gives Yorubas sleepless nights?? Even when the airports are not funded by the federal government as in the north, but by the cash strapped state governments or even the ordinary citizens.

You're not making sense at the part in bold. When you consider the cost/benefit analysis of building an airport, you won't be saying this. The truth is that every state that wants to attract investors, both foreign and local should make the building of airport a top priority. Do you even know that a lack of airport can deny a state an investment that could generate employment and also boost the economy? If you're an investor would you go to a state with no airport and considering the fact that most interstate roads are bad thus making it difficult for you to access your investments?

Do you know the impact of Sam Mbakwe airport has made on Imo State over the years?

You're even comparing the national airport of a country like Ghana with lots of embassies and diplomatic missions as well as the fact that tourism is popular there to airports in Igboland? SMH!
The truth is that the minion mktinsight knows the SE needs the airports to even stand a chance of developing the region at all. Everyone knows that in the absence or modern reliable rail infrastructure and roads, it does not make any sense to have one airport in the Southeast that is inaccessible by either road or rail. Even in countries with fantastic road and rail transport systems as in America, they still have airports every 100 KM or so. Even in places that are not so densely populated like Igboland. While in densely populated parts of America such as cities, they have up to 5 airports in many cases.

I totally don't understand why Yorubas are often the ones that feel highly threatened whenever there is an airport in the southeast. Perhaps they know that they have unfairly subjugated the region to force it to only use airports in Yoruba land. While they couldn't do such to northerners who have their airports in every state capital mostly built by FG and use Abuja and Kano airports as their regional hub. Yorubas typically look the other way when airports are built in Gombe, Lafia, Birnin-Kebbi, Katsina, Dutse, New-Bussa, Bauchi and many other places in the north that have built airports recently. But, once they see the location of the airport is in southeast, the wail and fall over themselves why it should not be built. I don't understand why they feel so threatened about development (especially airports) in the southeast.

I am only glad that Igbos have suffered so much in Nigeria to understand the the grand plan of these people is to under-develop Igboland under the guise of "one Nigeria" and use all sorts of sick logic to justify why Igboland should remain undeveloped, while their regions develop using the resources of the Federal Government.

PDP has zoned its 2023 presidential ticket to the Northeast zone and the Vice Presidential ticket and other cabinet positions to the Southeast. Let APC zone it's presidential ticket to southwest and leave the people of the east out of your macabre calculations. Tinubu's boys are really exasperated with PDP zoning its presidential ticket to the northeast. But, nothing will change it.

It is so hard to understand why it is the APC that has totally excluded the southeast in all developmental projects and appointments in the country that are falling over themselves to "force" the PDP into zoning its 2023 ticket to the southeast. Ask yourself "why the sudden love of APC for southeast?" But they won't give the APC presidential ticket to the southeast? SMH

The guilty conscience is killing Nigeria about what they are doing to nndi Igbo. We are asking common 1.5 cases bridge for 30 years that is evil the government should apologies for for nndi Igbo for bad policy against south east.
Thank you so much for this post! Abacha's loot was used to fund Lagos - Ibadan Expressway, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway and 2hd Niger Bridge.
But, you will never hear them shout or mention the other projects and shout Buhari is working for Yoruba or Hausa! Not to mention that in addition to these expressways, these other zones in the north have REAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS such as brand new railway projects, Gas pipeline projects etc funded by the FG. But the same Buhari has canceled and flatly refused any such railway development or gas pipeline development to happen anywhere in southeast Nigeria! I don't want to mention the state of the expressways in the southeast such as the Enugu - Onitsha expressway and the Enugu - Port Harcourt expressway, that appear as though the area isn't part of Nigeria. Yet, if a culvert is built anywhere in the southeast or southsouth, you hear them shouting that they should roll out drums to THANK BUHARI FOR HIS FAVORS!

The Enugu Intl. airport is a recent example amongst many. Where they destroy what was previously built in the region, close down the facility for more than one year, do the shoddiest job after a purported whopping N10 Billion naira ( $200 Million Dollars) had been stolen, then they asked Igbos to roll out drums to THANK BUHARI for an uncompleted project! Till date, the night landing facilities purportedly paid for in Germany has NEVER made it to Nigeria nor installed. Not to mention that no international flights can take place at the airport as it used to be....and this isn't due to just Covid-19. The infrastructural capacity of the airport to handle international flights and passengers were deliberately downgraded.

This is why the minimum that will save Nigeria is restructuring. So that nobody sits and frustrates the development of another section of the country under the guise of "One Nigeria" .

If we want to give thanks for the second Niger Bridge, we must equally remember the roles of the United States of America, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari. Making it seem as though Buhari did it all, when we know he was arm-twisted by the United States of America to include the project as part of a nationwide infrastructural project to be funded with the return Abacha loot as a precondition for America to pay $312 million dollars to the Nigerian government.

Also, if we want to thank people, everyone especially the last two presidents should be thanked! Not just one man who merely included it because US demanded a geographic spread of projects executed with the refund.

UPDATE NIGER BRIDGE ONITSHA
This bridge is technically not being built by Nigerian government. America demanded projects in different geographic regions that Abacha's loot would fund, and Nigeria included the second Niger bridge so that Nigerians abroad will not protest the release of the funds to disappear as other previously repatriated Abacha loot. Then US wrote the terms of funds release to make it clear to Nigeria that re-looting of the money, diversion of the funds due to nepotism towards the stated projects will have dire consequences. Obviously, the gratitude for the continuation of this project after 2015 should go to America!

If Nigeria broke the terms of the agreement that led to the United States release of the millions of dollars, they would confiscate Nigerian assets globally until Nigeria forfeits the funds back to the US.

Without such strong agreement, the highly nepotic despot in Aso Rock would NEVER have funded a bridge in an area of Nigeria he openly professed so much hatred for "not voting for him"

Meanwhile, the other infrastructural projects (Expressways) built in the north and west with the $311 million dollars Abacha's loot is free for the people and won't be tolled. But this bridge built between the East and Midwest will be tolled to extract the total refund cost of the project from the people. Go Figure!

Although i really didn't like Rochas for his penchant for low quality roads, truth is that he had practical vision for Imo state. Rochas had a technical mind on what was feasible or what was needed to achieve his vision for Imo state. Albeit, his urge to cut corners always made him settle for low quality construction.

However from the looks of it, Hope Uzodinma has ZERO idea about how to develop Imo state. He also does not have a technical mind, thus really embarks on silly unworkable projects just to appear as though he was doing something. I have been looking at his plan to demolish all roundabouts and replace them with 4 way-Junctions and i wonder why he hadn't noticed that the British knew we needed stable, constant electricity to power traffic lights to operate a system of 4 way intersections, than roundabouts which could function efficiently without electricity. Countries without constant electricity cannot operate the 4 way intersections else it would be totally chaotic and impossible to pass those junctions even in places with the most patient drivers. The same man bulldozing all roundabouts in Owerri as an "urban renewal plan" has no plans to improve electricity supply in the city to ensure his traffic lights would work 24 hours of the day and forestall traffic jams that result when traffic lights fail.

He bulldozed the tunnels without going ahead to construct proper flyovers at those spots to add value to what the tunnel was supposed to do. The same bulldozing mindset was why he pulled down a N1.6 billion naira building called Somto Hospital. If that building could not be used as a hospital, it could be used as a vocational training center for youths/artisans, a school for handicap, an indoor computer or phone market, or even a police station with some rooms converted to jails. Why would a poor state in Africa pull down buildings that could be used or donated for other uses?

It is becoming clear that Hope does not have any plans whatsoever to develop Imo state. All he wants to do is to blame the previous Governors for this or that, then continue to demolish this and that just to buttress his point, without adding any value to the state.
Actually creating beautifully designed and maintained roundabouts are better traffic control and urban beautification strategy than building 4-way traffic junctions. Roundabouts give the city an iconic identity recognizable globally that featureless traffic light junctions. Even American cities are introducing more and more iconic roundabouts in their cities than tasteless 4-way traffic light junctions. Mind you, Americans have enough electricity to run as many traffic light junctions as they wanted.

The problem with many Nigerian Governors especially in the southeast is a total lack of vision. Thus, they copy just ANYTHING to be seen as doing "something". In most cases, they don't think of what they are doing, it's practicability or it's relevance.

The truth is that until southern Nigeria takes farming seriously, the north will continue to emasculate and exploit the southerners by hiking the cost of foodstuff, especially in southern nigeria to be the highest food prices in the world.

It was designed by the FG to kill agriculture in the south and force them to depend on northern Nigeria for subsistence. Even root tubers as yam and cassava that were hitherto moved from the south to the north in the 1970s now come from the north to the south. Mind you, northerners don't eat root tubers, they prefer sorghum and millet. But they will use cattle to destroy cassava and yam farms in the south so that you will be forced to buy southern foods grown in the north for southerners!

If the PDP zones the 2023 presidency to the southeast as the APC plotted and expected PDP to do, then the APC's plan to massively rig out the PDP in the next election will totally succeed. The APC will simply explain away their fake victory on "well, Nigerians aren't quite ready for Igbo president yet" I don't know why it's too hard for the southeast leaders to simply understand this.

There is NO WAY that the PDP will defeat the APC when APC has all the powers of incumbency, control of INEC, Judiciary, Army etc, .........and worse, the PDP is fielding an Igbo President in 2023??

The best path to Igbo president is to first become a Vice President to a northeast candidate. After which they can now use all the apparatus of incumbency the APC has now to make the V.P run for the presidency. OR convince APC to zone it's 2023 presidency to the southeast for the sake of national unity, and use the apparatus of the federal government to support it. Any other path on this 1999 constitution is mere wishful thinking by those Igbo governors who just want to run and LOSE because they already know they can't win.
EXACTLY! One bottle of Hero beer for you Bro!

This is a game of numbers and APC being the ones clamoring for PDP to zone its presidency to the southeast is exactly to play into their hands. Igbo presidency is more realistic under an APC controlled federal government. Now, ask yourself, why can't APC zone its presidency to the southeast since it loves the Igbos so much and wants to be fair to all zones of Nigeria? Instead of clamoring for the PDP to zone it's presidential slot to the Igbos? Now you get the idea behind their game. The PDP has a ZERO chance of wresting power from APC controlled Federal Government with an Igboman as a presidential candidate and everyone knows it.

Once PDP zones its presidency to the northeast as it has done and the VP to the southeast, then they have totally checkmated the plot of APC to unite the north and southwest against the PDP, then they will use the power of the federal government to announce anything they like as election result. Then massively deploy troops to the southeast and south-south where they expect hapless youths to protest the rape of democracy. This isn't a game of emotional sentiments. it is about using the structure of Nigeria to keep the balance of power in APC's favor.

Umahi has ruined himself by trying to impose a situation where APC will easily claim to have won in 2023 and there will be no consequences whatsoever. Everyone that loves true democracy to evolve in Nigeria knows that Igbos should be given a chance to produce the president, but it is an impossible feat to do in 2023 with soldiers, INEC, Judiciary, etc controlled by APC. It said, "The Apex Igbo Youth Socio-cultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide had described the Tuesday's Persuasive meeting of National Leadership of PDP led by Prince Uche Secondus National working Committee, to convince the Southeast Governors Forum Chairman and Ebonyi State Governor, Engr Dave Umahi at Ebonyi State liaison office Abuja was the height of PDP'S deceit, last kick of a dying Horse and gathering of vultures to Continue to rape Igbo votes Unjustly especially in 2023 against the PDP Zoning Formula enshrined in her constitution that favours Southeast to produce the 2023 presidential Ticket and consequently produce President Muhammadu Buhari's Successor in 2023.

"OYC lauded the Southeast Governors Forum Chairman and Ebonyi State Governor, Engr Dave Umahi for the wisdom and Wealth of experience to seek for the Zoning Formula enshrined in PDP'S Constitution to be implemented, but PDP National Leadership is aware of the imminent collapse of PDP Strongholds in Southeast to Mainstream Party APC, which will surely bring electoral catastrophe to PDP in 2023 elections.

"OYC call on Southeast Governors that PDP is economical with the truth and had been compromised by Northerners to Scuttle PDP'S Zoning 2023 Presidential Ticket to Southeast because PDP sees Igbo as conquered people and incapacitated which is Unjustly facilitated by an ill-conceived elite conspiracy against Southeast, but PDP had already perfected plans to Scuttle the Zoning Formula that favours Southeast, for a Northerner.

"Southeast Governors should decamp to APC without delay, as PDP Leadership deceptive visit to Umahi was an affirmative evidence that PDP is already jittery of losing Igbo votes, but it's too late for PDP, as Igbo's decision of abandoning PDP is irreversible and final verdicts of Igbo Nation".

All these APC propaganda to throw Igbos in the middle of their strategy by shouting the "elusive Igbo presidency" will trick nobody.

PDP knows APC's gameplan to keep rotating the presidency between NW and SW zones, that it why it zoned the 2023 presidency to the Northeast (NE) and the VP to Southeast (SE). That is the surest strategy to victory and APC knows it.

Their APC trick is to somehow use faceless "Ibo" youths to try and force PDP to change its winning formula so that their game plan of rotating the presidency only between NW and SW will work.
