But, The trick is how to get the tourists into Enugu, drive them to the locations and get them safely back on the plane to get home. These tour agencies will also work with Ethiopian airlines to help these tourists board a flight to Addis Ababa from their local countries and are transferred to the Enugu flight once they reach Addis Ababa.

The state government will work with major hotels in Enugu approved to participate in this program to provide 2 or 3 police escorts for the bus driving these tourists around. many countries in Africa do this very well and it supports their national economy.

I had proposed same thing a while ago.
Our people erroneously think tourism is something that happens by some chance.

I always asked who amongst my friends will voluntarily go buy a plane ticket to colombia for tourism, if they couldn't speak the language, knowing that foreigners are routinely kidnapped and sodomized until their family paid the huge ransom or they will be finally killed? Nobody wants to do it. but they will voluntarily visit colombia if a tourist agency here in nigeria organized the tour and arrange their hotels and transportation inside colombia, with an added guarantee of 24 hours police protection from the colombian state government.

It is the same way with tourists trying to visit Nigeria. if you help them out with those logistic issues and guarantee their safety, they will come in droves.

You are right there concerning Abuja. Awka already has beautiful well laid out estates with well paved roads. Obiano is not joking with his ongoing planning and infrastructural developments in Awka.

He is setting up Greenwood city with equally well planned roads/streets with pedestrian walkways/streetlights etc. Obiano has set his ball rolling with a very high target- and he has been. He has equally grown the IGR to about 1.3b to enable him implement more capital projects and has again set another target of 3b.

I would also wish he begins to develop a whole new modern AWKA CAPITAL CITY in the vast ample virgin land behind the state secretariat complex area. I visited the area last month and from what i observed, the state government need to act fast to plan the area well.

It is easier and cheaper to develop a brand new modern city in a virgin land, such as the vast virgin land behind the Anambra state secretariat, than begin demolishing the old Awka in the name of modernizing someone's ancestral village into a modern city.

That is precisely why it was easy and cheaper to develop a modern city in Abuja from a virgin bush, than try to re-design Lagos by demolishing houses in order to modernize it.

My hope is that Obiano will implement the Awka Masterplan and not just pay lip service to it as his predecessor Peter Obi did.

Good job Spyder. Although it may be cheaper for you to simply mix cement and stones and do a "German floor" street. Unlike the regular german floor in homes, you must not smoothen the surface of the concrete. You must allow the surface to be even but "rough". The german floor is cheaper than buying interlocking stones. But if you can afford it, do the right thing and make sure you pave the road from gutter to gutter to make sure the edges are not left to become water logged and road begins to collapse from the edges.Initially, people will think you are wasting money doing the streets. But eventually, the ambiance of the whole place, lack of dust from bad streets, the property rate will be skyhigh.

This is Trans Ekulu, a cool place. But the roads at Dental road is going bad.

I fervently believe using concrete or interlocking stones to build streets and roads is the way of the future.

1. it does not require any high level engineering know how.
2. it does not require any large construction equipments or manpower.

All you need is a few laborers to mix the stones and concrete, grade the road and make sure it is level, then pour the concrete. Perhaps using very tiny rods which further reinforce the road.

Concrete roads are not just cheaper, they last 5 times longer than asphalt.
