The best thing for us is gradually relocated to East. I support Biafra but am of that of the mind. Investing in outside Igboland have done Ndigbo no good but evil, they have mistakenly played in the hands of their enemies.

If ASPAMDA, Alaba and Computer Village found their ways in East, the rest battle have been won.
What you have advised is precisely what a wise business man should concentrate on doing right now.I wish they do so as a union instead of individually. Some great locations already exist, such as the wonderful Aba Mega mall, the Oba International market, the abandoned Enugu Intl. market at ninth mile area can offer locations for such businesses to relocate. Electronics traders can go to Oba, textile traders to Aba mall and Enugu will be a mixture of all.
But you know, they will not do anything if it is not an emergency yet. So don't expect people to heed your advise and start moving some of their assets to the safety of the south east. Which is precisely what a wise person should be doing right now.

Likewise, we must impress on our governors to open up industrial layouts quickly. Emene and ninth mile in Enugu, Kpirikpiri area in Abakaliki, Agu Awka in Awka, Osisioma and Onicha ngwa area for Aba, World bank and Egbeada area for Owerri and "33" Nsugbe or Oba area for Onitsha and Amachara area for Umuahia. It is an abomination for an industrialist willing to set up a factory in the southeast to be looking for industrial layouts in Igboland

I made this post in another thread and I think it makes for good discussion.

I blame squarely the unhindered borrowing by APC southwest states on the crash of the Naira.

WEMA Bank has since suspended consumer loans to it's customers. WEMA bank is one of many banks being owed by states like Osun.

The unchecked borrowing and inability to repay on their commitments is also threatening the very existence of banks like WEMA.
Why did Buhari allow SW states to borrow so much debt?

To achieve all that, the airport will have to be sold either to a holding company of the venture capitalists, or to ENSG.

With the N20bn (or more) secured, I'll completely pull down the current domestic terminal; and in its place build a befitting 21st century terminal. The runway would be expanded to, at least, 3.5km, ditto for the taxiway.

There will be an airport train to move people between the terminals within a few minutes. Each terminal would have a minimum of 7 jet bridges. The apron will have the capacity to handle 15 parked aircraft.

The traveling population in the SE and some parts of the Middle-belt (Benue), and Igbo expats abroad should make the Enugu profitable. As someone typed earlier, Libreville-Enugu-Europe/ Johannesburg-Enugu-US flights are financially plausible.
One reason why i love you so much, even when i disagree with you is that you ALWAYS think outside the box.
You have such practicable mind about how to solve problems or riddles from their root, its amazing! I hope you know it's a gift.

Selling the airport is the only practical way it can reach its full potential in a retrogressive tribalistic society like Nigeria

150m dollars is 30bn plus..i doubt any hotel in east cost up 5 billon to build let alone double that of 150m dollars..I doubt foreigners would leave their country with soul aim to visit hotels in another country unless there is something unic in that hotel and even if it is that there has to be other sightseeing spectacles otherwise I guarantee you that patronage of foreigners would still be low...forget festivities but things like exploratory caves, unic natural endowments, wild lifes, weather and historical sites are the greatest tourist pullers...great hotels are more of ancillary items
Perhaps not building as massive as the 450 rooms Montego bay hotel. My point is that even building an 80 room hotel, but incorporating the highest standards around the world in a smaller scale.
For example, I particularly love Chime and Godswill Akpabio because they believe in quality not quantity.

When Akpabio builds a stadium, hospital or library he strives to meet international standard in each category. Not just because his state is oil producing, because we have seen the standard of similar projects in Rivers and Delta which are also oil producing. That is precisely what i'm saying here. Try to build one which meets world standard than 300 which are all low grade stuff.

Back to the hotel thing, Two great hotels have sprung up in Akwa Ibom since 2011.
1.The Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort cost about $95 million dollars http://www.lemeridienibom.com/
2.The newly completed Four points Sheraton at Ikot Ekpene are standard hotels. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1718454&page=4
Now, since 2011, many other "hotels" have equally been built in Bauchi, Gombe, Ibadan, Owerri etc which nobody knows about because they have one thing in common-Third world hotels standard. As a billionaire already, Arthur Eze now needs iconic investments to his name. If he can afford $100 million dollars, let him invest it in this hotel and make it iconic. I believe he should strive to at the minimum replicate the standard of the Ikot Ekpene Four points by sheraton in this new Enugu Intl. airport hotel. Anything less will be disappointing.

The issue is, will it be a mega hotel with high class services or the usual 'bungalow' hotel we see around.
You are 1000% correct bro.

I wish our business people will graduate and start building world class hotels to attract tourists and not just chalets with rentable rooms called hotels. Grand Hotel Asaba initially started well, then suddenly relapsed into the usual room business focus of our hotel system.

A modern hotel should be a fun place not just simply a room to let and sleep in at night, the way we envisage what a hotel should be in Nigeria. A good hotel alone with world class facilities is enough to attract tourists into Enugu to holiday than all the local festivals, caves, waterfall we are so keen to advertise or market. That does not mean those caves or festivals are not important to develop, but the average regular tourist simply wants a good holiday vacation and not really the anthropology adventure of exploring medieval caves etc. That is why Cape Town SA leads the rest of Africa in attracting tourists, yet it has no festivals or carnivals, but great hotels!

Imagine this picture below is a hotel in a small town of montego bay Jamaica! Notice how they planted coconut trees all over the pool area to give it a tropical paradise feel.
Paradoxically, we Igbos living in the tropical Africa cannot do anything close to the standard of this hotel because we concentrate too much on the chalets/rooms part of the hotel. The hotel this picture was taken cost only $150 million dollars to build the entire place! Most of our shoddy hotels cost twice that price to build. Arthur Eze can build a hotel of this standard and with pool area, coconut trees like in the picture only if he gets the advise from well exposed architects. Such architects in our clime are very scarce in Nigeria.

Politics › Re: Jonathan Cost Us 2015 Elections -PDP by Cjrane2: 4:27pm On Jul 12, 2015
metroparrot:
Feeling empty and, perhaps, reminiscing the days when it wielded unimaginable powers at the centre and in several states, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said former President Goodluck Jonathan caused its failure at the last general elections.

Assessing events leading to, during and after the elections, on Saturday, even as the report of the Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu committee on the issue is being awaited, the party specifically traced its problem to the insistence by Jonathan to run for a second term. It would be recalled that the issue of an agreement that the immediate past President would not go for a second term was a thorny one, with ex-President Obasanjo saying there was such an greement, though ‘a gentleman’s deal’ that did not require the parties signing any document. The pro-Jonathan campaign however swore severally that there was nothing like that, challenging those who argue otherwise to produce the signed agreement detailing terms of the pact.

Notwithstanding, the party said it has learnt its lessons and would in future not take the zoning arrangement enshrined in its constitution for granted.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, PDP National Vice Chairman (South South), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh said it was pure mischief that prevented party members from insisting on the retention of the zoning arrangement, as he disclosed that the former president actually breached an agreement to run for just a term.

Taking a look into the past of the party yesterday and assessing what went wrong, Ojuigoh insisted that there was a gentleman arrangement by the 34 ‘great’ men that formed the PDP in 1998 that they would start shifting power eight years to the north and eight years to the south, adding that it was enshrined in the PDP constitution.

With former President Olusegun Obasanjo utilizing the eight years term of the South, the batton he said was given to former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who unfortunately died in offic,e even before completing his first four years in office.

Jonathan, he noted, was given the opportunity of being the party’s candidate, following the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Ojougboh stressed that President Jonathan, indeed agreed with the party leaders to serve a single term and let power return to the North, but breached the agreement. This, he regretted was with the connivance of some party leaders who threw their conscience to the winds.

At the last poll, President Muhammadu Buhari, he said, benefited from the anger of the northerners who overwhelmingly voted for him in a show of rejection of Jonathan who was perceived as a betrayer and treated so.

“When PDP had the first shot, everybody cooperated, Obasanjo became president. After eight years, it was the turn of the North to become president then problem started. Some people started toying with the idea of third term. PDP said no, PDP members of the National Assembly and other parties said no, it will not work.

“The PDP had to produce a candidate and that is how Yar’adua came. Unfortunately, Yar’adua did not survive so the North said look this presidency is our own, we have to utilise our allotted eight years and they were right.

“Jonathan himself said he will do only four years. Emirs, leaders and stakeholders in the country accepted that Jonathan will do only four years so that the power can shift to the North. When time came, a lot of Macabre dances started; people started putting pressure here and there, and people started encouraging Jonathan to contest. Unfortunately, Jonathan didn’t have the nerves to say no, I will keep my agreement.

“So Jonathan contesting meant that zoning formula had been breached. The North didn’t take kindly with it; they said no, this is not what we agreed. Even the christian North that used to be very friendly, especially the North Central said we had an agreement. Some governors about five of them left the party because of that because they saw what was happening. So it was this pressure that the North now agreed that they must take power back, that it was their turn.

“Fortunately or unfortunately, only two candidates were presented at the election whether you like it or not; Jonathan and Buhari. Buhari is from the North, Jonathan is from the South. The south had done more than enough for the time been for the agreement of 1998/1999. So the North said look we are going to vote for our son whether he is good or bad,” he said.

Politics › Re: Don't Grant Amnesty To Boko Haram- UN Warns FG by Cjrane2: 12:25pm On Jul 06, 2015
fkaz:
The plan of the federal government to grant amnesty to members of the Boko Haram Sect received another big blow as the office of the United Nations on Human Rights yesterday maintained that members of the terrorist group do not deserve any amnesty.
The spokesperson for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Rupert Colville , while briefing journalists in Geneva , said that the Commission has held that perpetrators of serious human rights violations, including by Boko Haram elements and members of the security forces, are heldaccountable, noting that amnesties are not granted to anyone responsible for very serious violations.
The spokesperson continued that: " Boko Haram has reportedly been responsible for kidnappings, killings and drive-by motorbike assassinations of civilians and politicians, members of government institutions, security forces and foreign nationals"
He also called on the Nigerian Government to abide byhuman rights principles during security patrols following reports that nearly 220 civilians were killed during violent clashes between military forces and the Islamist group Boko Haram .
“We are very concerned about the large number of casualties, reportedly including many civilians, and massive destruction of houses and property, as well as displacement that has taken place in over the past fewweeks in north-eastern Nigeria ,” Rupert Colville said.
“We call on the Government to make sure its efforts to achieve security are in full compliance with human rights principles,” he added, also urging security forcesand the military to respect human rights, and avoid excessive use of force when conducting operations, as the patrols stoked local resentment, especially when civilians were killed or had their property damaged.
The renewed calls are a response to incidents in Baga ,a town on the shores of Lake Chad in which fighting erupted overnight on 16 April and continued for days. OHCHR said the fighting was spurred by the killing of a soldier on a military patrol by the Islamic extremist group, Boko Haram which is based in the State.
Mr. Colville said that OHCHR welcomes President Goodluck Jonathan ’s commitment to hold accountable all those involved in the human rights violations perpetrated during the Baga attack, and urges the Nigerian government to carry out a “full and impartial investigation”
Secretary-General Ban Ki -moon said immediately afterthe attack that he was “shocked and saddened” by the civilian casualties and called all concerned to fully respect human rights and protect civilians.
“We repeat our calls for concerted efforts to tackle thecauses of the repeated outbreaks of violence in the north east of Nigeria and to put an end the cycle of violence and deadly reprisal attacks,” Mr. Colville added.
As part of an overall effort to stem the violence with means other than force, President Jonathan has established a Committee to work out modalities for an amnesty and compensation for victims, as well as to open talks with Boko Haram . OHCHR said it welcomes the establishment of the Committee as an “important step.”
It would be recalled that in last year, over 100 people were killed when the radical group attacked churches in Kaduna State, drawing widespread condemnation from the UN

shedraq1:
CORRUPTION WAR: PROBE YOUR APC SPONSORS – BALARABE DARES BUHARI
Second republic governor of old Kaduna state and chieftain of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, Alhaji Balarabe Musa has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the source of wealth of chieftains of the All Progressives Party, APC, that sponsored his election to reassure Nigerians that he is ready to tackle corruption.
Speaking during an interview with the Nigerian Pilot Sunday, Balarabe Musa said it is mischievous for any member of any of the political parties to be pointing accusing fingers in the direction of other parties as corruption is pervasive in all political parties and facet of the society.
He said it is impossible for anyone to spend several billions on presidential or governorship campaign without part of the funds coming from what is stolen from the public treasury.
“We know what we are talking about on credibility. Look, corruption has reached its peak in Nigeria. Virtually every Nigerians survive on some form of corruption or the other, knowingly or unknowingly, directly or indirectly.
“Now, the situation is that election in Nigeria can never be free and fair because the deciding factor in politics and election is stolen money factor.
“You have to spend money stolen from public funds to be relevant in the political party and to contest and win any election or defend the election victory. Now, how can there be free, fair and transparent election in Nigeria?
“We have estimated that for anybody to contest for the Presidency with the hope of succeeding, one has to spend at least N50billion. For a governor, at least N10billion, for Senate N1 billion, member of the House of Representative at least N200 million, member of State House of Assembly and Local Government Chairman at least N100 million naira and anything up to N400 million naira respectively.
“You have to spend that money from your own unearned income or unearned income of someone who is sponsoring you. Under this circumstance, can there be a free, fair and transparent election?
“And if you want to root out corruption in this country, you have to take that into consideration and you have to probe everyone and everything.
“I know people say it will take this government half the time doing nothing but probing. But it is worth it, it is better to spend two (2) years largely only probing and set things right after 2 years than to continue like this.
“For instance, if we have done the right thing five years ago, we wouldn’t have been bogged down with the present situation whereby you cannot win any election unless you are a thief.
“From Local government to Presidency, the amount required for campaigning can only come from somebody that has stolen public funds or somebody who rely on somebody who has stolen public funds.”
Responding to question on the possible involvement of APC members whose campaign was based on anti-corruption war; the elder statesman said no political party in Nigeria can win the presidency without stolen public money.
“Any party, even my party the People Redemption Party, PRP has to use stolen money to win the Presidency in Nigeria. Well, the question is where can we get that? Yes we can’t get that so let’s rule that out. But those who can will have to use it.
“During the 2015 general elections, APC must have used as much money as PDP used or even more. And it is not surprising because just as the PDP have Governors and President, so had the APC.
“So, if the President wants to clean up and succeed, he has to probe everyone and everything, there is no time limit, he said
-Nigerian Pilot
Of course Buhari cannot probe the crooks that have sponsored his electoral campaign. That is why his anti corruption crusade is fake and flawed from the start

Boko Haram: Buhari slams military for using South African mercenaries

KADUNA – The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari Monday expressed disappointment with the handling of the war against insurgents in the North East, wondering why the military could not secure 14 out of the 774 local government councils in the country without the assistance of “South African mercenaries.”
According to Buhari, Nigeria soldiers did not need to wait for South Africans before confronting the Boko Haram insurgents and going ahead to win the war against the terrorists in parts of the North East.

He spoke in Kaduna while playing host to the National Executive Council of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF.
His words, “The military has never been so incapacitated like now. It is a shame that the Military cannot secure 14 out of the 774 local governments in the country.
“What is more worrisome is the fact that Nigeria’s Military has to rely on South African machineries before it could gain recent success in the war against Boko Haram. This situation is shameful and unacceptable.
“My administration will concentrate on three major areas on assumption of office, that is insecurity, the economy/unemployment and corruption. We will ensure we nip insecurity in the bud.

Everyone warned Buhari not to sack the winning team that drove Boko Haram away from all its strongholds at minimal casualties on the Nigerian army, but he was a dulllard to see the connection between beating Boko Haram and a professional military group as the south africans flying the attack helicopters that wrecked the Boko Haram military vehicles.

Now the dulllard has expelled the South Africans and diverted the attack helicopters to Calabar to bomb civilians, Boko haram has regained the initiative and started bombing us again.

Nobody can say for sure what the hidden agenda of Buhari is all about. Perhaps, Buhari wants Boko Haram to resurrect itself so that he can argue for amnesty for them and reward them financially for their killings.

I don't blame the dulllard, i blame those who gave him powers of life and death. Knowing he was too much a dunce to know how to use it.The are the people responsible.
