Charity Commission appoints Interim Manager to charity under investigation 12 August 2014

The Charity Commission, the regulator of charities in England and Wales has appointed an Interim Manager to the charity Christ Embassy (registered charity number 1059247) ('the charity'). The Commission used its powers under the Charities Act to appoint Mr Rod Weston of Mazars as Interim Manager of the charity to the exclusion of the charity's trustees as a temporary and protective measure. He took over the management of the charity on Monday 11 August. The charity's trustees have been informed of the decision, and the Interim Manager will be communicating with the charity's beneficiaries. In July 2013, the regulator opened a statutory inquiry into the charity to investigate a number of serious concerns relating to the financial management of the charity, including in particular large connected party payments. Since then a books and records inspection has been carried out and the regulator has obtained information from and met the trustees, however, the regulator's concerns about the financial management of the charity have not been resolved. The appointed Interim Manager will: take over the management of the charity, including its staff, assets, interests, and relations with third parties discharge the functions of a charity trustee of the charity to the exclusion of the current charity trustees of the charity take any steps necessary to secure and take control of the assets of the charity The religious activities of the charity are not affected; the Interim Manager is taking steps and working with the pastors to ensure this remains the case. It is the Commission's normal practice to publish a report on its website on conclusion of an inquiry setting out what issues the inquiry looked at, what actions were undertaken as part of the inquiry and what the outcomes were. Debt itself is not really the problem. It's only really a problem if it's symptomatic of bad financial management.

If the guy has got a sound financial head on his shoulders then things should be fine on that front. It looks like responsible debt since it's a student loan, which was used to upgrade his skills (unless the credit card debt is astronomical).

In an age where the world is providing more equal opportunity to both sexes, there will be many cases where the woman is ahead of the man financially. As long as the man has good prospects and financial discipline, the woman providing support for him in a serious relationship/marriage shouldn't be an issue as it is likely to be temporary.

...and the assertion that the white/light skinned woman with the long straight hair is the most beautiful continues. Not a single dark skinned woman in the entire list!

There are probably more single ladies that favour polygny than we realise. A lot of it is financial. They can't understand why a wealthy married man should share all his wealth with just one woman. They must get their share, either as a mistress or as a second/third/fourth wife. Of course the greed goes both ways as the man too believes he should have as many beautiful women as he can handle.

It's the poor to middle income guys that are suffering, hunting up and down for a woman, while the rich man is handling 3, 4, 5.. at the same time.

There are many single guys out there ready to settle down, they just don't meet the financial requirements of a lot of these "big girls".

The point I was trying to make is about the income disparity in the Nigerian economy that leads to someone spending almost double an adult workers salary on one dog's FOOD.

Over here in England, I come across blue collar workers (labourers, plumbers, etc) and most of them can afford to keep a dog as a pet and buy proper pet food. Comparing it to the Nigerian situation described by the poster is disheartening.

For me, the rich man feeding a dog with more money than he pays a worker is not something to judge him for personally. It's just a function of the economy he lives in. Everybody should be free to spend their hard earned money however they wish. However, if we can step back and look at the bigger picture, ie take the above situation as a microcosm for the Nigerian society in general, then it leads us to the real issue of income disparity.

Let's not look at this story too narrowly, but think of it as a microcosm for the Nigerian society.

It's unfortunate that most of the people centred leaders that Africa had (Samora Machel, Thomas Sankara etc) died before their time. They had pointed some of these things out decades ago.

In the absence of such leaders, we can follow the posters intentions, with everyone doing what they can for others. For example, if you employ workers, as long as you can afford it, try to pay them a "living wage" which will be more than the minimum wage set by the government.

It's all down to personal experience. Many people have seen both bad and good marriages, and they have seen how some couples use great PR to make their bad marriage appear good to the world. Hence their cynicism.

Having said that, on a forum like this, I try to abide by the rule that what people say about their personal lives is true (unless as someone mentioned before, it's too outrageous to believe).

I think another issue, that we may not have touched on, is that people present their ideal relationships/marriages while giving advice to others. So for example, they may say "don't ever take this from your man/woman, in my own relationship, that can never happen" etc. While it may be true and I don't think we should go about questioning peoples' personal stories, it can be a little bit irritating when there's no attempt to tailor the advice or recognise there are different dynamics to other relationships.

When a lady has a marriage proposal, aren't her priorities misplaced if her worry is about being called cheap?

This judgement sets the wrong precedent and creates a moral hazard.

What legal deterrent is there for any woman planning to, or already passing off someone else's kids to her husband, if she knows the law will always be on her and the kids side?

In general, I'd say that people should no longer be surprised about any domestic judgements against men in the West.

It's a difficult one, but I think the views of the parents (even parents that were willing to give their child out as a maid) can't be ignored.

The fact that you respect her parents decision will go a long way in her also maintaining a certain amount of respect for her parents.

Assuming that the wife earns a reasonable amount relative to her husband, her demands for an allowance are unreasonable.

However, the OP has already married her. As for me, I always tell people, once you're married, you have to deal with the person you married.
