Even Asian ladies too
And The Spanish speaking countries I assume.
Anywhere gender roles are defined.

That's also why we have girlfriends assuming the role of wives in their boyfriends' houses. Cooking and cleaning and showing him bed skills all before marriage.
That's how they show they are wife material and the guy shows he's husband material by providing her needs.

You're still looking for why the culture exists?
Family › Re: A by cococandy(f): 2:21pm On Jul 02, 2015
pickabeau1:
True

But I am sure its not every guy who spent on his girl that had the opportunity to sleep with the girl
Some women even tell you they are saving for marriage yet will be sleeping with someone else on the side

but it was done in the hopes that it would make her relax and open up.

Not totally true
I knew and know so many guys who are not getting anything yet they support their girls

ha. Ever heard there's no free gift? Guys as I grew up to find out don't give free gifts. I know you won't agree but when my mama was constantly telling us never to accept gifts from men, I personally though she was being paranoid. How can you accuse every guy of wanting something from you because they gave you things. Well it turned out to be true. In fact there's no free drink in that land. It's all building up to something and if it gets to 'relationship' level. Know that your body 'belongs' to the guy and it will only be a matter of time before he begins to ask for 'his right'

The so called movement you hear of is a result of guys saying NO To secondary virginity

whats wrong with secondary virginity? Anyway topic for another day.

You have answered the q

Girls see pocket money and allowances as an obligation
My addendum is that this holds true whether sex is involved or not yea. But I'd say some girl. I can't deny that to some girls, love is not enough and sex is always involved in such cases.

Let the women answer you

Q: Is there a culture of obligation to provide for your girlfriend/fiancé in Naija and why does this exist

CC: edwife cococandy Kimoni freecocoa
Because sex is for rent ish.
When I was in school, I'd hear the random guy say he was magad. I.e he was spending on his girlfriend and got no sex in return.
Or the girl would be like, "this guy has not even done anything for me and he wants to sleep with me. I'm not a mugu"

So in a way you see it's an affair of two people who think they are giving each other what they want. That's why the concept of a sexless relationship is alien to the average Nigerian guy. In his mind, there's nothing in it for him.
Go and say that in romance section and watch them shout you down.

As for the girl believing sex is a favor to the guy she's dating, if he's not taking care of her recharge cards and hair extensions, there nothing in it for her. The mindset is that after he must have slept with her (I.e taking some thing precious from her), he will probably abandon her and move on eventually to another relationship so if she gives it for free, there's nothing in it for her.

This is based on my observation and it's fairly accurate because even on NL of faceless people, you will see someone always say "if your girlfriend says no sex until marriage, then you say no spending until marriage"
Meaning the basic idea of why a relationship is to the average Nigerian youth is sex and money.

I apologize in advance to the plenty other people who this generalization has reflected poorly upon.

I know there are people who didn't see their relationship that way. There were some who shared their little pocket money with their boyfriends and vice versa and they chewed biscuit together in their hostels without problem, there were some who had jobs as students and didn't depend on boyfriends.

It's just a generalization.

Okay. Every individual defines their own version of the concept? Does this also apply to the concept of who a real man is?
Wow! Making sense seriously....So women attempting to define a real man may actually be following characteristics that match their perceived personality.
Feminists una don hear am? Stop trying to give us your universal view of who a real man is! There is no singular answer to that question.
OK. Now give us your own cococandy view of who a real woman is. We are waiting ! cheesy cheesy

oh i am shuddering and there is no justification for murder so this is insanity then.you enter into marriage with someone, sane and the only means to get out is this.if you arnt secured in such union where else would you be.i mean for something to do you this bad to choose a death sentence or live imprisonment... frankly this sh!t is really frightening. turning a man into a murderous beast takes alot of determination .
Lmao @ bold.

He was turned into a murderous beast.
It's not his fault.

Turning into a killer must be so easy to do.
Where's his own responsibility in all this?
Do you know the kind of evil it takes to snuff the life out of another person?
Probably in gruesome ways with the victim pleading for their life yet the killer went on and finished the job.

But nah he was turned into a killer. It can't be his fault. It's the victims fault.

I take with a pinch of salt anyone who says "err this is bad but..."
"Killing is bad but don't turn your husband into a killer"
It's like saying "rape is bad but don't be alive in the presence of a rapist"
Because anyone who is predisposed to such evil needs no excuse to carry to it out.

Maybe there's some insanity in the midst of some cases but It is never the victims fault.

I'm really tired of hearing subtle justifications for evil actions. "I know what he did is bad but women pls stop being...." Seriously? undecided

Would anyone here stop to think this way if their loved one was killed by her husband? That's how I comment on posts by putting myself in other people's shoes. It's not enough to be flippant as if those incidents didn't happen to real people.

Family › Re: My Mum Is Overdoing by cococandy(f): 2:32am On Jul 02, 2015
Your fiancé can express her milk and keep it refrigerated so that your mom can also feed the baby with it when she's not there.

I support her not letting her take the baby to school. That's major stress relief right there. Your girl won't know it until she has no one helping her.

Lol@no letting both of you have private moments together. She probably doesn't want another grandchild so soon. cheesy

I love that she's looking out for both of you. That's very sweet of her. Although it can be frustrating when someone smothers you while trying to show love. Especially for your girl. She might feel like she's not getting the bonding she needs with her child if your mom keeps insisting on doing everything her way. That's what what you should gently explain to her. Because her actions are done with your best interest at heart, so even when they frustrate you, don't react negatively to it or it could be seen as ingratitude.
For now you don't even have any alternative but her. So if you piss her off, okpari for you guys.

Be diplomatic about it. And above all thank her every chance you get.
Family › Re: What Is Expected Of A Married Man by cococandy(f): 10:36pm On Jul 01, 2015
As a priest; a husband subjects himself to Christ and opens the Word and leads his family daily through worship.
As a provider; the husband works hard to ensure that the family is well fed and nourished decently dressed and taken care of in all areas.

As a protector; he shelters his family from physical, emotional and spiritual attacks/harms. A godly husband the man of the house will stand up for his marriage and defend his wife and children and fight for his family's salvation.
1)not everybody is religious. So some married folks can be fine and successful even if the man is not leading them to Christ and daily worship.

2)that's a combined duty. Not for the man alone and doesn't mean if a man can't do all that, he's not worthy to be married. If in partnership with his wife, they can both achieve that, they are good to go. He doesn't have to be a mule or over worked. That's why he has a partner.

3) what's that? grin
Spiritual harms? Seriously? do you mean like warding off blows from amadioha and co?

And sheltering them from physical harm involves what exactly? Fighting a group of 4 robbers who attack their home or what? You guys are funny.
Nobody expects that from you. I certainly don't expect that from my man. Even though he'd sometimes be like "anyone who wants to physically hurt you will have to go through me"
Aww sweet. But no. Like I tell him and I'm telling you, pls don't be a hero when there's no need for it. That's for novels and movies. In the face of real physical harm, Let's just both run from danger. We don't wanna lose you while you're trying to save us.

On emotional harm, I agree. When you're married to someone, they've given you the power to hurt them emotionally and vice versa. So here you've to protect that person by not doing what will harm them emotionally or be an avenue for other people to get into them and hurt them that way too.
Family › Re: Where Are The Real Women? Abi Dem No Dey? by cococandy(f): 10:13pm On Jul 01, 2015
Dinachi ask and you shall receive.

What's your definition of real woman? Once you know who your real woman is, you will be able to identify her and stick to her when you find her.

Did you really expect someone to come and start listing what makes a real woman and that would be true in all cases?

Why can no woman tell you what a real woman is? Simply because no single woman has the right to define other women based on her parameters. I could try to define a real woman and unconsciously follow characteristics that match my personality (or my perceived personality. Because humans tend to see themselves as better than they really are wink . Proven psychological fact. But I digress)

can I tell you who a real man is, not really. I can only tell you based on my preferences. In the end, it's not the universal law as my real man maybe another person's douchebag.
Same way a man can list what makes a real woman for him and we'd all be free to disagree with him if it doesn't work for us.

The one answer you seek doesn't exist in general.

maybe its better black men and men taking wives from home just have a child or two out of wedlock just like its envogue with the whitemen.you settle with there mother to have full responsibility for your children.then find a woman to cohabitate with if and when you want to.the institution of marriage is even dying anyway.give it a few more decades.you look at the comments and lack of grace of women here even, am shuddering at the thought of getting married.maybe its the fear that has made me not yet married.
Why are you not shuddering at the thought of men killing their wives? Or some women killing their husbands.

People thinking there is justification to take the life of someone they are married to is what's killing the marriage institution.
