It still remains sectional, because it's not the reality in the entire county.

And if the North is the reason people still scream women marginalisation today, then the narrative should be framed correctly, as "marginalisation of the girl-child in the north."
They are part of Nigeria. So why should it be seen as sectional.

And it’s funny that we would want to section them out as if they are the only ones with issues. When for example if you’re igbo, you have no real place among the men of your household. Is that marginalization or not?

Smh
You’ve been given a clear example of everyday people but you chose to use outliers (People of a different social class) as your reference.

I give up.

Shouldn’t have been bothered to engage in the first place because you have been determined from the beginning to be irrational

reddingtonblack:
c'mon we both know the example did not match our present world, no matter how good we are at denying, trust me a current reference would have shut our camp gas off grin

Who & what do you think gave Yusuf the right to slap his wife?
Half of them on that thread wanted to know what she did to warrant the slap, knowing very well that they wouldn’t be asking that question if the wife was the one who made that post.

Yet we are here debating if the Nigerian society has an issue with women or not.

Next up let’s debate if the sky is blue or gold undecided
Family › Re: Marginalisation: Women Playing The Victim Cards by cococandy(f): 8:37pm On Oct 13, 2021
PrimadonnaO:
I mean. I'm honestly trying to get what the real issue is.

Been reading through comments on the thread, can't find one logical case-study, except perhaps one person who mentioned the case of girls in the North... and girls in certain other parts of the underdeveloped world.

But those situations are now isolated cases, and don't speak to what's generally obtainable.
How is the north an isolated case when their population is almost a third of the country . A country of over 200 million people?

Because no one stopped you from going to school and getting a job doesn’t mean inequality has stopped being a problem in Nigeria.
Family › Re: Marginalisation: Women Playing The Victim Cards by cococandy(f): 8:35pm On Oct 13, 2021
Oh I gave you an example and suddenly it doesn’t apply.

The people who don’t know y’all’s gaslighting techniques na the people I dey pity.
If it’s happening right in front of you, you will still deny and try to make anyone who talks about it out to be a liar.

Relative to your present world, can your sisters inherit your father’s property that is located in the family compound passed down from great grandfather to grandfather to your father?
Because if yours can, in many parts of Nigeria, others cannot. Even though there’s no law that prevents women from inheritance, it still happens which means the law is not the problem but the underlying mindset and beliefs about women’s place in society.

Is that relative enough for your present world? Or do you need more examples so that you can gaslight your way out of acknowledging the truth?
reddingtonblack:
We are talking about the current world, not the epic world you read about, infact in today's world a lot of wives are acting landladies even before their husband died
in today's world, wives cut off their husband's family even when the man is still alive, will or no will let's be sincere most barbaric customs have been overruled to the barest minimum.
If you insist women are being marginalized, in what ? how? relative to our present world

Why has she not addressed the lopsided pay gap in her sector first before addressing the ones elsewhere??
Nigerian actresses are not paid more than their male
Counterparts. What lopsided pay gap is she supposed to be addressing?

Charity begins at home madam.
Why will she be speaking about the gap outside her scope when there is a gender pay gap IN HER OWN SECTOR?
She’s a woman. So even if she’s not directly affected, it still concerns her

reddingtonblack:
Just a simple question; how have you being marginalized.
naa epistle we dey see abi you want extra sheet grin
In a country where a woman who loses her husband starts to fret about if he didn’t leave a will while a man who loses his wife wouldn’t have to worry about such things even if the wife earned everything they own, you are asking me how women are being marginalized.

Many of you are being deliberately obtuse.

So why was Ini Edo complaining?? huh
It may surprise you to know that people speak on issues not necessarily because it affects them directly but because those who are affected may not have the voice and reach to make the changes they need.

Very surprising

The good thing about this thread is, suddenly MOST Nigerian women are doing well educationally and career-wise.

Suddenly, most NL guys would know rich independent women.

I am very grateful for this thread. I don’t want to see anyone say Nigerian ladies are dull and jobless again. kiss
Family › Re: Marginalisation: Women Playing The Victim Cards by cococandy(f): 5:57pm On Oct 13, 2021
The people you’re addressing are too dumb for this conversation.
As if outlawing gender based marginalization automatically means everyone’s mindset has changed and men in authority will stop their discrimination against women.

It’s like talking to goats. They won’t get it

FreeIgboho:
The vast majority of women in Nigeria are NOT in the category described by OP. They are indeed marginalized and expected to be comfortable being second class citizens and very subservient to men

-----------------------------

How many women are like your account officer? Nigeria is approximately 50% women. Look at the business, political, church, education, etc leadership landscapes in Nigeria. How many are wome??
-----------------------------

Remember 50% are women. How many of the following have been women:
Presidents
Senators
Governors
House of reps
Millionaires and billionaires
Church leaders
Top business owners
Heads if universities
Heads of the military branches
Heads of labour unions
Etc.
Remember women are 50% of the population. What percentage of these do you think are women?
-----------------------

The paternalistic society is stopping them. It is the way the society is structured. It is systemic. That's why they have a right to cry marginalixation.
----------------------

Not true AT ALL.
The fault lies with the paternalistic society NOT the women. It is the way the society is structured. It is systemic. Only the rare woman can rise above the conditioning and expectations.
-------------------------

Not true. There is something stronger than law stopping them. It is customs and culture. It is the paternalistic society. It is conditioning and expectations. It is the entire system. Much more powerful than a mere law!

Oh shut up

You can tell who’s about to say some thing extremely xtupid when they start using the term “wokeness” as of it’s derogatory when their foolishness is pointed out.

seunaj:
I don't support domestic violence of any form. I don't believe neither that women should be subjugated in marriage. But you see the wokeness of all these Instagram-woke generation African girls, it has taken away their sense of homeliness. You can't imagine the mental disorderliness in the minds of these good for nothing Instagram influencees that they are calling wokeness! Negative civilization. I can't believe that the girls of this generation have stopped dating, they will just be frustrating you like Ogbanje, cheating heavily on you with fraudsters, married men and any baga that can pay. If you catch or suspect them, they will say that you are too domineering. Infact, girls now believe and engage in friends with benefits throughout their prime. When all the virtues and innocence are gone, they will now find a man to retire, with all the mental baggages, spiritual initiations and medical infections. If you are married as of 5 years ago and beyond, my brother, you don't know what God has done for you. Social media have finished these girls. Girls full street but wife scarce than gold.

Very sad indeed.. I know that place.. They should've gone behind the nursing school, people live there and there is no Bush behind the school, if they politely searched houses behind that nursing school, they would catch some of the ugm..

Am sure they hid in people's house after the escape, but the people dare not report them to the security agencies..
So they should go to people’s houses and harass those living there? Are you stupid?

It really does take only a small event to occur for one to know how some of your minds truly are. It’s been enlightening.

If you’re so happy at the death of a group of people because they belong to a different tribe, why are you interested in being in the same country with them?
Why not support a dissolution of the union since you hate them so much that their death makes you happy?

This forum has truly been eye opening. That’s all I’ve got to say.

Not managing situations like this with sense and love is the reason why we hear stories of some rich guys blanking out cousins/family members. You never know what happened in the past when they were still in their formative years and forced to rely on family members. I just hope the OP is not capitalising on her cousin's situation to 'cut him down to size' just for her own satisfaction since his own immediate family are currently struggling. I say this because I have seen this play out in the past within my extended family.
You just assumed the girl can’t get rich too?
