I fear (truly fear) people who believe in this thing called witchery and wizardry. Like actually believe that there are other people among them who have supernatural powers. The type of illogic and xtupidity it takes to believe that type of a thing make such a person extremely dangerous. They can harm someone else and justify it with them being on the good side while the person they harmed is the bad person.

Indeed. Shows lack of thought on their part NoToPile: I find it discomforting when people talk about calling of wedding after bride price has been paid, is bride pricr payment not marriage rite. You are married already uncle.
That said, she never pretended or portrayed another thing to you. You and your family know how they are , you knew for 8 years now after paying bride price you are speaking grammer fear God nau, you think some other suitors wouldn't have come around those 8 years?
You didn't make a decision all this time, its after you have married her traditionally you and your people are realizing she doesn't have a degree and that they are poor.
Being poor is not a crime please.
Anyway you are married already, find a way yo manage your in-laws and your people. God be with you. |

FIXED Trojan8: Reverse this situation where the wife's family move into the house and see NL resident analysts wanking on the thread. One clown is even saying that the wife is at fault like he would have allowed his wife family take over a house they co-built.
All my experiences on Nairaland have shown me that the average Nigerian GUY is an hypocrite that generally hates women. Sometimes I see what women do and I understand where they are coming from. There's no love out there for most women here, it's crazy.
Op, your parents didn't exactly do well but there's nothing you can do at this point. The most urgent matter right now is how to get your wife to your side because that woman is angry at this point.
Just beg her to give you time, you should be looking at paying her before initiating any building project.
The house that your parents are currently occupying is gone. Know this and know peace. |

Acidosis: If I were in her shoes right now, I will NEVER agree to a joint contribute with you again. I believe this is why many ladies are skeptical about joint ventures with their husbands in Nigeria. There’s no guarantee (except love and trust) that they won’t be left with the short end of the stick. Even if the parents or relatives don’t move in, down the line, if he decides she’s no longer attractive and he wants another woman, his “culture” allows him to marry someone else and her sweat becomes the property of another Mrs John. But in the beginning stages, if she refused, she might come across as mistrustful or not a team player. Even though I support 50/50 because I don’t believe in strict dynamics, I don’t judge women who decide not to do that. |

Acidosis: One said he should look for N8m and build another house (even if it means starving his own kids I guess )? Millionaires everywhere They didn’t consider that it’s possible OP and his wife used most or all of their savings for that project. They should just cough up millions and start building again. Lol |

Crossroad1: Try to arrange their own house for them and let them live in yours till you help them build theirs.. Even if na 3bedroom bungalow. mastermaestro: Don't evict them. I am sure you are the breadwinner of the family. You should have considered building a house first for your parents before building yours. Start another one which may be cheaper into which the will move upon completion. Dude, this is the only realistic solution. Crossroad1: Try to arrange their own house for them and let them live in yours till you help them build theirs.. Even if na 3bedroom bungalow. Where una dey see this money ? The kind of advice y’all give on NL sha “Even if na 3 bedroom bungalow”. As if it doesn’t cost millions to build. So unrealistic |

1)Maybe your dad could afford multiple properties, don’t assume the OP and her husband can. 2)there’s nothing wrong with one’s parents living in their house. I believe It’s the way they went about it that’s annoying the couple. 3) also everyone is a little different. For them to offer to rent a place for the parents probably means they don’t want anyone living there. Maybe for personal reasons. 4) property in Nigeria can get dicey and I understand why people get hyper vigilant about it. From parents living there, one sibling can join them in a few months and before you know it, years down the line , it becomes a contested property. Especially since they are not home based. Emmanuel909090: Do you plan relocating to nigeria soon? If no, let them live there, its a blessing, you can provide shelter for your family, what is the need leaving it vacant and renting elsewhere when you might not visit nigeria in the next 3 years?
And it can even be burgled without presence. Let old man and his wife enjoy peace and free from landlord wahala.
It sounds stupid ejecting your parents from your property.
This was exactly my dads story, his parents took over his first property.
Peace. |

This is a big reason why many African women are hesitant to join funds with their husbands and do the 50/50 thing. I personally don’t mind it. But I understand those who refuse to do it.
In a situation where your labor and contribution is automatically credited to your husband and you almost have to beg for respect and consideration in a place that you contributed equally to build, it causes reluctance. If they respected her as a co-owner of that house, they would have asked her input before moving in.
Some women if they don’t build their place separately in their own name (sometimes without the knowledge of their husbands and of course I don’t encourage hiding things ) will usually have no place that they can actually claim and treat like theirs. It’s always the man’s house. Even when your money is part of it.
Guys you people need to do better. |
