What do you mean by typical Igbo people? We marry other tribes. It depends on individuals. Nothing typical about it. PresVA: If your fiance's parents are learned, they may eventually come around... but if they're typical traditional Igbo people, no 'Jupiter' can move their stance, they are even ready to disown their son.... My dear, you may just have to move on if his parents are so adamant except you won't be coming to the village after marriage. .then, God forbid if anything happens to the man after marriage, hmmmmm
Then, what's your fiance's stand thus far? Is he shaky?
Whatever decision you make, I will advise he gets his parent's approval before proceeding to marry you. . Forget about his siblings who are indifferent about the whole thingy, they'll take their parent's side eventually if all of you don't come together to agree. ... All d best... |

Really you're comparing a means of transportation to outright bloodshed, rape, manslaughter and murder? You gat jokes bro. You gat jokes. Just imagine. Well let's give boko haram freedom to operate too since it's their way of life. They can kill just like Fulani herdsmen and we shouldn't do nada about it because Amish people use horse-drawn carts that also endanger other road users. Afterall danger is danger abi. My brain jut got wrinkles. saintdennis: Lols... ok Sebi fayose has banned them, other states should follow suit.
If BAN THEM SO THEY GO BACK TO THE NORTH is all u can endorse then there's no point responding to u.
Like I previously stated 'hate only breeds hate
U once asked if the amish were violent, no they are not BUT THEIR WAY OF LIFE ENDANGERS OTHERS ... Thats a link on accidents involving buggies and cars, it should make an interesting read http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSBRE9B605G20131207
how would u react if amish men are riding wagons on our roads in nigeria? Doesn't that endanger other road users? I bet by now you guys would claim they are a major cause of accidents, ban them!

This is gibberish that doesn't answer the question I asked. Why should a way of life that endangers others be encouraged? You only have a right to live your lifestyle if it doesn't hurt others. How many people will have to die before all of them will be banned? Is it until every single one of them commits a murder that we will see it fit to ban them? Hundreds nay thousands have died and you're still willing to risk it. Smh saintdennis: Hmm if two yoruba/ibo/hausa communities fight and lives and properties are destroyed it isn't the same endangerment? When akpabio said Abians made kidnapping lucrative didn't they kick? When buhari said nigerians are corrupt didn't we all criticise him? So why is it because some bad elements amongst herdsmen are fighting communities you guys suddenly find it convenient to tag ALL HERDSMEN criminals and tell them to go back north isn't that hypocrisy?
Conflicts are a normal thing jare, FYI herdsmen come to camp in my area jan-feb then return for 2months towards the end of the year, there's never been been any issue we didn't resolve effortlessly.
E.g they usually passed the main road to the estate leaving a litter of cow dung, we took someone who spoke their language and went to their camp, discussed with their head and now they take the canal routes. No fight, no argument. They don't steal.
Their cattle sometimes cross over and break people's pipes, we reported the issue to their head but on our path we started covering our pipes.
This sudden barage of anti-fulani rhetoric can only be politically motivated *simple*
If grazing routes cannot be carved out then other solutions should be tried *simple*
If you are now telling them to go back to the north then NO P.
Hate only breeds more hate. |

They are both violent towards each other and that to me is good grounds for divorce.
Her owning a house without his knowledge isn't a crime in my book. We all know Nigerian husbands will hardly involve their wives as co-owners of property they acquired together in the marriage. A wise woman will set something aside for herself especially in this case where the man has mistresses. Tomorrow one stranger from somewhere will come out and start claiming your property that you suffered to acquire during the marriage in the name of love child.
Typical control freaks like this dude won't want their women successful outside them. Else why is he upset she's doing the same lucrative business as him?

Do the Amish go about destroying other people's lives and property? If their way of life has to endanger others, then it must not be allowed. Your analogy is not adequate saintdennis: I ask you this question... have u ever seen any European family in the city TIE GOAT, RAM, COW etc in their compound them slaughter it and smoke it?
If tomorrow buhari bans all these won't we Christians mainly criticise it.
Don't talk about analogue and digital...the average Nigerian still has a backward mindset that is why the nation cannot develop.
A grazing reserve is a beautiful solution to all these encroachment crap. And ensures they stay in the forest and come into the city by themselves to purchase necessary items.
In u.k, america and other countries the AMISH people have their way of life which includes using horses and there are CONSTANT AND FREQUENT meetings between their reps and state officials to discuss ways of ensuring each party coexist peacefully. That's the difference between whites and africans.
You do not understand culture... grazing Is their way of life, since u can't convince them to modernise it then like the whites do with the amish you then look for ways to ensure both parties find a common ground.
Do you know the cost of maintaining a ranch? Forget cost of acquiring one (minimum 2 acres with a treeline close by)
In nigeria the solution to everything is BAN... doesn't that show how dull the average Nigerian is. Even nairaland na ban, NO WARNING lols.
If Africans had invented football there would be no yellow card...just red lmao.
Solutions are needed, I feel the pain of those attacked by the barbarians among the herdsmen...but we really do need to propose alternatives to ranches and grazing reserves. Since both are being objected to. |

Exactly Imagine this one almost done with school abandoned her final exams just because the man she's about to marry made her to. Negodu nonsense. Wasn't that the first red flag she should have looked at to run away? Yet she kept bending over backwards and rearranging her life goals to please someone who doesn't give a hoot about her well being. And she still wants to stay. Which kind advice person wan give this one? I guess we will just wait until he beats her to death with the pregnancy then we will type RIP. egopersonified: I felt you were crying while writing this post, when you started referring to your husband as 'you' instead of 'he' in your write up, I started crying too. If you can't leave now, why not look for a way to ensure you go to your parents from the hospital after childbirth instead of your mum coming over? You would have that three months window to make your decision.
Training our girls solely for the purpose of marriage should be discouraged, there is more to life than being a good wife and mother. |

Tearoses, edwife I believe anyone who has a gun should have a safe where it can't be accessed by the kids.
It's true the harm easy gun laws do. Because people are so careless.
but you have to know yourself and who you live with before allowing guns in your home and who has access to it.
Tearoses pls get an alarm system. We don't want to hear story o. Hmm. Idikwa precious.
There are options in alarm systems where you can set it to 'home' setting. So your pet can move freely from room to room without setting it off. It will only go off when someone opens the door from or to the outside. |

Tearoses what's the arms law like where you live?
Here you can own a gun as long as you pass a background check. Nobody is coming to do that in my house. God forbid. Even though this neighborhood is very calm, one can't chances. First of all the home alarm system will alert us that someone is trying to break in and we will be waiting, ready to blast them to pieces.
Even if I'm home alone, they won't go unhurt. At least one of them. I learned to shoot Hoping I never have to use the knowledge. But I'll if my life and that of my family is in danger.
Just imagine the wickedness. What if she'd gone into labor immediately from the stress of that break in.
I'd recommended the alarm system to anyone. At least if you can't own a gun, you can rely on outside help when someone breaks into your home because the alarm will go off and the if the company calls without getting a response from you, they will call the police who will dispatch a team that can get to your home in 10-15 mins. Time enough to catch the intruders while they are still rummaging through your house. |

I can't believe this is coming from you. Yes I believe male and female thieves should be dealt with the same way and that way does not involve being stripped unclad and burnt alive. #shudders. I'm a hard working person too. And I've been robbed at gun point twice. I won't even support the legal capital punishment for my assailants much less death by jungle justice. God forbid this cannot be an issue of gender equality. You want us to call for her death by lynching too, to signify that we truly believe in gender equality? Unfreakingbelievable! MBJ. Unbelievable. Every sane person out there should be condemning jungle justice. What's bad is bad and shouldn't happen to anyone regardless of if they considered the weaker or stronger gender. That the police is corrupt and often ineffective doesn't mean we should seek solution in a greater evil. BTW aren't there people in prisons in Nigeria? Still can't believe I'm having the discussion. MRBrownJ: what joke are you talking about... this is African reality: JUNGLE JUSTICE. you steal you die, no questions asked! the Aluu4 has absolutely nothing to do with this issues as they didnt steal anything. but if someone is wiling to steal in Africa (where thieves are lynched ON THE SPOT) then they should accept the consequences of their actions. this is Africa let us not pretend or fool ourselves.
now the important point, whether you like it or not, is to agree whether male and female thieves should be dealt with the same way.
do you really think that it would make any difference if it was women there? bwaaaah! thats the ammo of women, just read NL (here is a thread for example: nairaland.com/3046284/concubine-should-not-made-pay) people can only use what they have, to deal with their local issues. these practices should be a sound WARNING to thieves out there, who think they can defraud people and go unpunished. death is the only available solution to all these criminals who think they can cut corners and enrich themselves by stealing from hardworking people. but hey, if you guys have a better solution, i'd like to hear it (pls dont offend us by mentioning the police as a solution) |
