Seems like the casualties are from the 5% and the bandits from 97%.

Y cant other languages be used for data science/Machine learning? What's d big deal about this python lang? A slow insecure language that's fast to bang out hard to analyse code in but easy for noobs to pickup and hence for unprofessionals nd sloppy thinkers to flood into d industry.
Slow down bros...I share your opinion on "why python must be used for ML, AI and Data Science lesson?", but I have come to realize the support of python for Data Science is already huge and will always attract more people seeking to learn AI, ML and DS towards python as a lang.

One thing I also realize is that python was meant to trade off security features for ai-centric task accomplishment and speed. It is just a matter of python as a language being tailored to be like that purposefully and not necessarily a flaw.

Now you argue that funding is a problem and that age matters but yet you are the first people to populate the internet with your so called exploits - first uni in Nigeria to budget xyz for research, first uni to do this and first uni to do that.

All of a sudden, age now matters but you lack respect for UI as she is always continuously bashed by you guys all in an attempt to project a false representation of yourselves.
I had to extract this part out for more appropriate reply.
CU promoters as you call them aren't the aggressors here but in fact the public schools are the aggressors always out to rubbish what comes out of private schools as overrated forgetting that the also enjoy similar level of funding. If CU promoters are making excessive noise about 'overrated' achievements, why not calmly sample yours that isn't overrated? Is CU thread the only thread on Nairaland?

One of the painful problem of folks I see on this platform especially the guys promoting CU is that they think that by much speaking of high sounding words and razzmatazz folks would just swallow hook line and sinker all they say.

They forget that like the Berean Christians, there are people who still study to sift out thrash from contents.

Now you argue that funding is a problem and that age matters but yet you are the first people to populate the internet with your so called exploits - first uni in Nigeria to budget xyz for research, first uni to do this and first uni to do that.

I would not dignify you again by responding. I believe your subsequent posts show you are bereft of basic and well grounded knowledge that can enable you make sensible contributions on this subject matter.

Do have a splendid morning.
Lol . . . you guys felt the CU attention was getting too much and started the needless debates. In every school, there are the academic giants who have more quality research than their peers and such people exist for every school.
My point here centers around the fact that CU is a young school that favours the recruitment of relative younger and inexperienced hands. Couple this with the young age of the school itself ( less than 20 years) and you see why CU is not like most Nigerian schools.

What we are seeing today from your likes regarding the research works of CU was also experienced in the labour market by CU graduates just about a decade ago. It is natural the older guys in the trade feel entitled to relevance by reason of being older but don't come and rubbish an impressive job because you feel 'they' are too noisy about it.

In academics, age is irrelevant. ∆Mind you UI or CU can't even compete with many post 1992 universities on the UK. What about NTU or KAUST who though young are boasting impressive publications?
Please if you want to compare schools be fair in your comparison. What are the funding level of these post 1992 schools? CU was established in 2002 so factor that into your skewed comparison.

Don't just spew stuff. Not all readers on nairaland are gullible.
Oga, age is very relevant in research as you cannot argue away the effects of papers accumulated by older schools over the years. They have that age advantage as long as they have produced papers over the years and those papers are included as part of their RG profile or impacts it.
The bold applies to you.

And yes, if you find people’s values to be “shitty” why are you struggling and risking life and limb to be surrounded by such values?

Nigerians love to make “show” of their supposed piety, but meanwhile their loudest pastors are keeping and impregnating mistresses and concubines. SMH

Notre Dame is a private Catholic university, so your driveling is ill-informed...

Again, many Nigerians keep chasing shadows in derogation of substance. Even the founder of your religion was reportedly keeping the company of a well-known prostitute, perhaps because he was not mistaking the trees for the forest. Funny how so many ignorant Nigerians turn their noses up at the West and their supposed “uselessness” - but will then go to prayer meetings and fasting to get a Western visa. SMH
You problem is low level of wisdom combined with knowledge of too many irrelevant facts. Jesus was sent to those people you call prostitutes but Covenant Uni as a school wasn't commissioned for the sake of handling such characters ( prostitutes ).
The fact that Jesus was with a prostitute is no excuse to open the doors of a school with a different vision to such characters.

So becos people fast and pray for visa to those countries we can no import all the shitty values the have into our system? You are plain dull.

The above shows that UI has a research impact that is about 200% that of CU based on quality!
UI has been there for decades and it is only natural that they accumulate more good works. CU becomes strong when you look at their growth rate or work rate as a whole school for the past few years.

If you want a Christian school, you will see students at Notre Dame with dreadlocks as well (a natural state of hair btw). A university is NOT a seminary or convent, it is supposed to be a place of academic and intellectual freedom, inquiry and training - and a component of such freedom is being free to be DIFFERENT! Furthermore, universities are supposed to prepare one to be functional in a real world of diversity and while rules are important in the real world ephemeral rules bordering largely in individual tastes amounts to nonsensical shadow-chasing. SMH
Stay there and be talking pure rubbish about how rasta hairstyle is part of one useless creativity. If you want to do rasta, there are many useless and open campuses that allow those and even allow gangsterism.
The private schools have their visions and it will be stupid for a student to gain admission and start demanding that the school change rules so their peers can regard them as big boys.

Does that warrant the students to misbehave? If he churns out students not worthy of sound character and learning, who would they held responsible?. Should any misfortune happens whose university would be painted black? The school has integrity to keep hence drastic measures must be put in place
People think paying fees for a service is such big deal. The man is doing his VC job according to agreement the parents/students signed at admission stage.

That is the misconception many Nigerians have about private universities but the reality on ground shows that many parents take loan to send their kids there. Cultism still strive in many public universities that is why many parents that are not financially buoyant take loan to send their kids to religious universities.

Everyday Nigerian glorified secondary schools(private universities) keep on black mailing it's students to conform with its rules because they know admission its hard to get admission outside of private schools. I just hope this country will be better one day so students unable to gain admission will be able to gain admission to better public schools.

I came across this picture sent to me by a friend.

Be doing fake freedom fighter on faceless forum there... did they blindfold you when you were signing to abide by rules?
If there is one big thing wrong with Nigeria today, it is the open disregard for rules and regulation.
How can a man sign up to obey rules only to gain admission and start forming freedom fighter because of peer pressure?

Even with the Op’s lies/semi-illiteracy, whichever the case is, covenant cannot even come within a mile of UI’s reach.

Covenant was founded in 2002 and by 2017, had recorded about 550 pubs (according to the Op).

That’s an average of about 36 pubs annually.

However, the Op posits that the output from covenant hit 1100 by 2018 making the output for the period 2017-2018 at least equal to the cumulative output of the school from its inception in 2002 to 2017!

I probably don’t have a good understanding about these things but these figures look heavily skewed.
