Oh...I missed the government owned part..sorry

Well ..businesses are best left under private firms...if we have learnt anything in the past ..the best way is govt to only generate money from taxes, royalties, customs and likes...

To meet our demand in fuel consumption which is over 40 million litres... Govt can not hire manual labour to dangerously refine crude oil the local way..it can never meet our demands..am not sure u have seen videos of how ijaw people risk their lives to run such buinesses....a standard refinery of high crude refining capacity (dangote refinery) is needed ..no two ways about it...

obinna58:
I said industries, companies owned and run by government
Low quality you call it? How can you even compare with professionally refined but it does it purpose, makes profit and there are times for improvement as well
A government with vision can find a way, start small as long labourers ready and wouldn't see Nigerian money as national cake, with time it can serve communities, can progress to serving the state and Nigerian as a whole.

PoliticsRe: Zainab Ahmed: We Can't Continue, Nigeria Losing N250bn Monthly On Fuel Subsidy by Cognitivereason: 8:22am On Nov 25, 2021
Lol grin.so u mean GTB, Zenith bank, dangote, BUA,GLO and the likes no dey make profit....

Anyways.. We are talking about refining large amount of crude oil to the best international practice for engines efficiencies

.the ones done in the bushes in the SS are of extremely low quality and low quantity

obinna58:
No be same crude oil naija delta people dey refine manually after mining illegally

Nigerian problem isn't not being able to refine oil, the problem is trusted people are not available to do the work, we all see government money as national cake.

No Nigerian government owned industries or companies are making profit. They're just there working with no passion or interest for their work, no pressure just work. Make profit or not at the end you'll protest for your salary.
PoliticsRe: Zainab Ahmed: We Can't Continue, Nigeria Losing N250bn Monthly On Fuel Subsidy by Cognitivereason: 8:03am On Nov 25, 2021
The warri and PH refinery are under rehabilitation by foreign firms to be operated by private individuals with some percentage of shares from NNPC...

Secondly...the govt is supporting dangote refinery which will come upstream next year...
The thing is dat govt doesn't want to pay subsidies to dangote ...a lot of myopic, cynical and over all illiterates will wail..when it more of a favour...and of course subsidies will just kill the new refinery like it did to the govt owned ones
I believe the dangote refinery will be ready mid next year..so once local production begins...govt will end subsidies totally...
The advantage is the govt gaining up to an excess of 3 trillion naira in revenue and saving more than 15% of our forex reserves..
Dangote isn't going to inflate the price of petrol...it will sell at the standard price which is averaging around $1...that N414...u can check the current prices of fuel in countries that don't pay subsidies... E.g Ghana, Benin republic, Togo ,Algeria, Egypt, SA....they ate averaging $1 per litre... But in Nigeria a litre of the same fuel is $0.4 ..meaning government spends $0.6 average to subsize every litre we all consume...

adonainana:
This is the easiest of the solution to the bigger picture problem now

So trust Nigerian doesn’t have the type of IQ sufficient leaders to implement such

A country has the raw materials to make petrol because it doesn’t have the factory to process the crude to petrol

It therefore exports the crude materials to other countries that can process the crude for it, it now imports it back twice the price it exports it out

So as not to make it expensive to the final consumers ( it pays the companies that imports the final material back into Nigeria a commission ) it’s calls is fuel subsidy

Now it wants to remove the fuel subsidy as it’s too costly

But what about the main problem in the first pragraph, you still don’t have functioning refineries to process the petrol you are removing the subsidy for

If the refineries are too expensive to fix

Why don’t you go to Russia or North Korea or even the UK and invite the government of these countries to take over the refineries and run it like it’s there’s

No need being scared about anything

In life if you neee help you ask for it

I trust a country like China they will run those refineries within 5 days and Nigeria will never suffer or lack from refining crude oil into petrol again

PoliticsRe: IMF Tells FG To Remove Electric And Fuel Subsidies, Give More Jobs by Cognitivereason: 2:11pm On Nov 20, 2021
Ur not in the system that is why ur thinking like this....
In short u don't even need to be in the system.. It common sense involving business. Nothing peculiar to Nigerian companies... Telecommunications industry is the most booming sector in Nigeria after oil and gas because obasanjo refused to subsidies it when it was luxury years ago...
Although the services are not world class..but there are significant investment in that industry Dan power or oil and gas...
At least anywhere u go in Nigeria.. If u go around Nigeria u should get average network availability from one of the 4 major networks because they are independent and are able to sustain the major companies that provide and maintain masts

Ur not reasoning on a long term...
Those policies recommended by IMF is what is needed for sake of tomorrow not even today...the more we keep ignoring it the more the cost of maintaining the old methods (subsidies) become high and the more we keep losing investment...

Subsidies can not be sustained anymore ...it has nothing to do with European or Africa...
Can't u see the glaring differences between power and petrol in ghana ,south Africa and in Nigeria

Have u taken out time to ask ur self if they pay subsidies over there..the answer is No
atiku07:
All u said is true but only in theory. it will not work in Naija. Which companies will upgrade services ? u are very funny Naija companies are criminal in nature. No just deceive ur self those companies will make mad profit and end up rationing electricity for u forget it see for urself what those distiribution companies are doing even the oil companies will not build any stupid refinery they will rather buy it from outside and sell since it is all about profit.

The truth is Naija is not yet ripe for those stupid advices by IMF. You want subsidy to go yet u have bad currency and a very low salary forgetting the fact you are a consuming nation and not a producing one, see ehn! u are wicked no be small. subsidy never waka small wey dem comot see where we are! inflation every where u all sit in comfort of diaspora or claiming experts consenting to some theoretical stupidity without looking at the realities on ground.

It appalling how Nigerians will celebrate the establishment of an airline and using state funds to boost the economy of western countries by buying jets..jets DAT only the politicians and their children plus an extremely small fraction of Nigerians will ever fly...
It will take years for that airline to record profits adding the fact that it under a government rather than private investors... I can only pray for it longevity....

But they despise Governors building flyovers dat eases vehicular movement for the masses flyovers that millions will use ...
Just read and article of Nigerians calling flyovers nothing to celebrate and dey use it daily and feel the advantages but celebrate jets and airlines even their generation will not near
We are truly insane...

Akwa ibom today lacks industrialization and the kind of business environment that will keep their people in their state rather than rushing to PH...
A simple deep sea port costing the same amount they used to buy those planes would have solved this problem DAT generations will forever be grateful for...

Akwa ibom is in dire need of a sea port not airline..if u know the potentials attached to being faced with the Atlantic ocean u will understand this...
This scarce blessing is what makes major cities around the world what they are ,from Lagos to Cairo to Capetown , Accra...check all them..their major driving force to their level vibrance in terms of economy and industrialization is their proximity to the sea

PoliticsRe: Udom: Ibom Air To Get 10 Additional Aircraft by Cognitivereason:
I think ur the extremely dull person here...
Benue had a cement plant DAT employed thousands of workers ...it now under dangote...that same plant has at least 800 full staff and more than a thousand truck drivers that transport the cements let me also include the thousands of business people who now earn a living buying the commodity from the trucks and retailing it....ur talking about nearly 3000 direct and indirect jobs already created by a single cement plant..

See u claim to have sense ..biko how many people can an airline employ...from pilots to the air hostesses and other staff ...they can never be more than 300.. 500 max ..how many Nigerians fly in total and how many does the airline want to fly...There is also no tangible indirect job created...now compare and contrast ... Am 100% sure dar the current staffs are paid from akwa ibom state budgets not from the revenue of the airline

The money the gov is using to buy 10 jumbo jets will build 10 factories that will create not less Dan 400 direct plus indirect each ...preserve forex especially if they are producing goods DAT were initially imported..
We r talking of projects that the masses will impacted directly not some delusional joy in one's mind that u have airline dat 0.05 of the total population of akwa ibom will use or Nigerians in total

If he used the money to establish a deep sea port which will cost around 260bn naira...
That port can employ atleast a thousand workers on different section direct and indirect... Go to apapa and see...it will transform akwa ibom to a hub for industrialization.... This is what made rivers and Lagos state buzzing with industries...this also the reason why delta state lost it glory when warrior port died. ..go to worry and see how many companies are gone...

Ur talking about generating revenue ...how much does an airline only flying 3 route want to bring.....the Lagos ports generate nearly a trillion naira yearly to FG accounts.. I have not included d other corrupt practices that profits thousands of lives working around the ports

Can u compare the number of people that fly to the number of people that import goods and trade....u just open ur mouth and talk rubbish...
Akwa ibom is not Dubai or new York..they are just wasting resources on white elephant project. .even a Lagos with a gdp of over 300 bn and the 5th largest economy in Africa doesn't have it own airline and sure doesn't need one....arrant nonsense..
Do u know that as rich as the US is along with it 56 states...the US itself along with all the states do not own a single airline... Google is ur friend
seniormallam:

What exactly is the advantage of this
How many akwa ibom indigene will ever step inside such planes....why not use this billion and establish a deep sea port to attract industrialization instead of wasting on useless projects without substantial impacts...

Apart from being the former capital of Nigeria, Lagos gained it status today simply because of the presence of two large sea ports which attracted business men and industries undecided
