How do you account for Rigor Mortis?

After how many days does decomposition commence?

A plausible explanation could be (And I emphasise,this is my personal opinion) based on the premise that rigor mortis sets in in phases; 1st phase-Delay period,2nd phase-onset period (reversible) 3rd phase-rigor (irreversible) & the 4th phase-Resolution.There is still a window of opportunity so to speak between phase 1 and phase 2 within a certain period.In addition, the duration it takes the different phases of rigor mortis to set in is also based on the climatic conditions of the immediate environment at the time.
One thing you need to realise is that in forensic,pathological practice,the intensity of rigor mortis is assessed on a purely subjective basis.Meaning whether skeletal muscles offer resistance when joints are moved (flexion/extension) may be determined differently by different physicians.

These kind of cases are rare but they do happen.It is referred to as the 'Lazarus Syndrome'.An allusion to the story of Jesus bringing Lazarus back to life.A more scientific term is known as a 'Near Death Experience (NDE)'. Where someone is pronounced 'clinically dead' but regains conciousness or a pulse is found moments or days later.So it is not a Nigerian phenomena as can be deduced from most of the comments here.

George Rodonaia underwent one of the most extended cases of a near-death experience ever recorded. Pronounced dead immediately after he was hit by a car in 1976, he was left for three days in the morgue. He did not "return to life" until a doctor began to make an incision in his abdomen as part of an autopsy procedure

That popular Nigerian soccer star,Nwankwo Kanu is one of the richest soccer stars to ever come out of this country is little news.

Recently,Kanu coughed out a staggering N2 billion in acquisition of 8 Duplexes at the choice Stillwater Estate in Lekki Phase I,Lagos.

The duplexes were said to have been Kanu’s major investment target for some time and it took quite a while for him to get the deal sorted out. People very close to him say it cost him about N300 million each.

It has also been confirmed that British Airways will henceforth offer a 20% reduction on Business Class tickets along the lucrative London-Lagos, London-Abuja routes.
I think this should take care of the discrepancy between the Accra and Nigerian 1st class costs.At least to a large extent.

The Federal Government has sensationally disclosed that it now has strong evidence on the identity of those involved in the recurrent bomb attacks across the country.  Following this, President Goodluck Jonathan has given an express order to security agencies to go after these terrorists and their sponsors, staing that they were testing his resolve to deal decisively with them.

Speaking, in Abuja, yesterday, while launching the new national driver’s license and number plates, facilitated by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Jonathan expressed regrets that since October 1, 2010, terrorists group have consistently detonated bombs in parts of the country and inflicted the nation and its citizens with undeserved and untold sufferings, pains and sorrows.

He said he was provoked by the last week Friday’s bombing of the United Nations House in Abuja, and has, therefore, resolved to place the terrorists and their sponsors where they belong.

Consequent upon this, Jonathan said he had already mapped out strategies and was turning the edge of his sword to crush all those who have sworn to destabilise and divide the nation under his leadership.

Said Jonathan: “Today’s launch has acquired greatest significance, following last Friday’s unprovoked attack, which led to the loss of lives and has left, in history, gory images for the threat terrorism now poses to the peace and security of our nation and the safety of our citizens. Since the last bombing and the October1, 2010, I had directed the hastening of efforts to build a credible database of drivers and vehicles in order to improve public safety. The importance of this project is reaffirmed by the consistence use of vehicles in the conduct of the recent bombing episodes.

“Let me use this occasion to reassure Nigerians and members of the international communities that we now have strong links as to those involved in this terror war on Nigeria and Nigerians. I have directed security operatives to go after them, no matter where they may be hiding.
