Afam4eva: Owerri is very similar to Enugu but has more nightlife and oringo. But i will prefer for Owerri to focus more on being an educational town. As for Orlu, it should just be a residential town with minimal commercial activiity.

Ola Johnson: I would have profitted you more if the money used for this upgrading is used to address the gully erosion that is ravaging the SE. After all, who benefits from the airport upgrading, if not the rich?

bismarck: I think the OP may have some point. Enugu Airport will surely depend on the goodwill of travellers in the South-east to help make it profitable.

However in terms of medium and long-term economic objectves, it is quite hard to point out the rationale for the choice of this particular airport. If there is airport that needs to haul passengers in and out of this country from the Southeast, the FG should have settle for the one in Owerri. That airport commands far more traffic than Enugu, despite its being functional only as late as the mid 90's. Then, there is its strategic location between the commercial nerve centres of Aba (60kms) and Onitsha (90kms). Even the the clusters of cottage industries between the area of Nnewi-Ideato would benefit from cheaper access to international markets and infact, this would improve indigenous production activities deep in the Southeast.

But again, this is Nigeria where we choose to play politics with just anything.... to the detriment of socio-economic recovery

It is well known that drug smuggling is Igbos forte, You know in your heart that it is a big problem with your people but you are too ashamed to accept this fact so instead of dealing with the issue , you are deflecting from it, responding to criticism by accusing other tribes of committing crimes as well.
