I have been to ALL the airports you mentioned before and after the previous pictures we’re shared.
It’s entirely different from what you are painting up there.
Please do not take it personal.
PH was an eye sore quote me anywhere - unless all the images flying around are after lock down.
You have been landing at the OLD international also used for domestic flights and now totally domestic. The NEW international airport is like a kilometer after the old one. When you are taxing, you might see it.
ogubolokento: Is this port Harcourt international Airport? when did they do this renovation that have not seen it, hope is not another lie lie moha.....
The new international airport is brand new and its like 1km down the road from the existing international/domestic. So if you fly in and out of PH locally, you won't even be seeing it or using it.
Don't be daft? All the rebuilt airports were done by CCECC with pretty much the same design and layout. That's why the pictures all look the same. Though size of the airports differ.
PH Intl was a totally new rebuild, bottoms up. So also is Lagos and Abuja. Enugu on the other hand is a refurbishment if I'm not mistaken. Not sure about Kano.
Still not clear how this will work though. Who determines the average number of hours i've had electricity per day in a month. And how does it work if I am on pre-paid where I am buying electricity before actually using it. What rate do I then pay?
I can understand it for post paid where it might be possible to determine availability for August, if I'm paying my August bill today Sept 1. But if I bought N10k pre paid on Aug 1 for the month of August, how is my rate determined.
Anyone who is sure how it works should please explain.
Abujaexpress: This government no go kill us o. Discos are increasing tarrrifs, DStv is increasing subscription and CBN is reducing interest paid by banks on our savings deposits. Make God help us!
I know it's painful, but trust me its the best thing for the power sector going forward. We need to move away from products and services being delivered below cost to enable those sectors to grow. The two sectors that have been plagued by subsidies and where we desperately need the private sector improvements to happen to improve our country are petroleum refining and electricity.
If electricity can become 24/7 in this country and the govt gets it's act together with industry, Nigeria can witness a big boom in manufacturing which will create jobs. Likewise, private sector petrol refining like Dangote refinery will create jobs and efficiencies in the sector, while freeing up subsidy ( or under recovery) funds infrastructure, health and most importantly education.
GamalNasser: This is one thing I hate about this country , all these incompetent corrupt junior civil servants never wants govt to privatise their incompetent organizations despite the fact the can't run it properly ..They deliberately create the rot so they can create a corrupt environment that benefits them ...Go to any airport run by FAAN you can't even use their toilet
Are you mind them? These are the type of nigerians that tell you that they are "due for promotion"!! Tell that to your boss in the private sector and you'll get sacked for suggesting that you are "due for promotion" on the basis of passage of time instead of performance.
Racoon: The runway is good-kudus to the Buhari government. However, this will pale into insignificance if some of the pictures currently on the net are depicting the true state of work progress in Akanu Ibiam Airport Enugu after the prolonged duration of closure.
The main reason for the closure was the runway. I believe since that is 100% complete, the airport can open while other civil works on the building et al continue.
Messi should just wait to next June and then leave for free since his contract says he can walk away from it in June. Abi is LaLiga saying that one is not contractual?
So long as government controls or sets the price of fuel there is a subsidy in existence.
For subsidy to be no longer on existence, it would be the marketers and fuel depot owners that would be setting the price instead of NNPC
Note. Anyone who abuses me will be reported to the moderators immediately.
I expect you to disagree with me. But don't use intemperate language doing so. You can be civil in your speech.
Thank you. You are free to disagree with me. But no abuse please
below...why subsidy underrecovery has to GO...
Unfortunately Nigerians won't see the long term effects of the impact on education, healthcare, infrastructure etc, but rather focus on the short term change in pocket. Even worse those who benefit the MOST can afford it at N200 I.e the upper middle class with 3 cars.
People should learn to use technology more. Have barely been out of my house in 5months due to covid, yet work and meetings are going on online.
kikero: If government removes subsidy for real, the price of fuel would be above 300 naira per liter.
That's why they don't want to remove it. Too politically expensive.
But since subsidy is associated with corruption it is better to lie that it has gone, than to tell the truth
Only time subsidy goes is when the crude oil price is too low for it to make sense, like what happened recently
I disagree with you. Everywhere in the world I have gone, diesel is a bit more expensive than petrol. So if unsubsidised, imported diesel is N195, why would petrol be N300??
What we need to do first is implement the Orosanye report. We have way too many agencies, parastatals than are needed, as well as associated staff.
Then we do need to commercialise some of the remaining ones. Like NTA. I always wonder what the need for govt spending billions on NTA is, if Channels is operating profitably? NTA should be made to stand on its own and pay salaries from its own revenues.
martineverest: funny how u were deceived by an unknown source, while major sources says Nigeria data is far cheaper than that of South Africa...south Africa data cost is almost 4 times more expensive than Nigeria's.
America has one of the most expensive internet in the world..
Don't mind people who take headlines in on nairaland as gospel truth and articles from unsubstantiated reports.
I am typing this from Houston and my internet is $45 (21k) for unlimited and download speed of 75Mbps for a fibre connection (xfinity), which is the cheapest bundle I could get. In Lagos, my broad based fibre service is N10K for unlimited data at 10Mbps speed.
You can argue that they earn better there, true but living expenses are also higher here. I save more in Nigeria than US. Here you make more money, but even with $10k a month salary, if you are not careful, you will not keep $1000 back every month.
crossfm: Just imagine a country that depends on us oh.
I have never been to Ghana before, but have had about the country. It'd really disheartening to see the way we are suffering in Nigeria. We have all it takes to develop this nation.but we have kleptomaniac as leaders.
How exactly does Ghana depend on us? We do not give Ghana electricity if that is what you are thinking? All we do is sell gas to them, which they use to power electricity, alongside their working dams. Don't blame Ghana for the useless and incompetent leadership we have had over the years.
FG is simply diverting attention away from their incompetence in managing the economy!! Nigerian's are shouting for a private business that operates in USD to reduce it's prices, but will not stand up to the useless Buhari government for alowing the exchange rate of the USD to fall from 199 to 470!!! That is more devaluation in Naira terms in 5 years than Nigeria has witnessed in the past 30!!
Why won't any business increase prices!? More so one that pays it's licenses in USD. IS it their fault FG increased VAT and allowed NAira to devalue?
joejah33: Your coleague in ghana?Continue to wait for your coleague in ghana as if nigeria is not a country of it's own.if you are not fit 4 a position, always reject it but bcz of LOOTING, we will not
Dude, investigations into what works against COVID 19 is a global effort. Scientists are collaborating with others the world over. Calm down!!
CuteMercury: Ladies and gentleman for so long AFRICANS have lost it, we have been made to accept things that were not right, things that have been said about Africa.
A recent video of pastor Chris oyakhilome surfaces when he Said AFRICANS should stop accepting that they are black and to my surprise.
lots of NIGERIANS started to attack him, well i really don't blame them because most NIGERIANS/AFRICANS are not Enlightened and this is why the whites secretly laugh at us.
Now taking a look at the new music video of Beyonce featuring Wizkid came out days ago and the song was titled "Brown skin girl"
Now was Beyonce trying to pass a message?
Why did she not use title like "Black skin girl"?
Why Brown skin girl?
What is with the name "black" that made her to refuse the name looking at the fact that according to general Believe, she is a black American.
Can't you all see that she is trying to pass the same message that pastor Chris oyakhilome is passing.
Let me ask you people especially NIGERIANS.
They say NIGERIA is the most populous black country in the world but are NIGERIANS truly black? How black are we?
A larger percentage of NIGERIANS are brown skin which is 100% fact.
There is nothing black about us so we should open our eyes and stop accepting Nonsense.
Perhaps the reason why AFRICA is where she is today is because we have accepted something that we are not supposed to accept from the beginning.
How do you expect good things to come to you when you accept that your life is black.
Little wonder BoB Marley said in one of his song. "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery' perhaps he was talking to AFRICANS.
Brown skin girl Your skin just like pearls The best thing in the world Never trade you for anybody else Singin' brown skin girl Your skin just like pearls The best thing in the world I never trade you for anybody else
Now like i said, why didn't she use "black skin girl'
Perhaps she knows something that pastor Chris oyakhilome knows too that is associated with the word "Black"
She was trying to pass a message but only the Enlightened will understand.
Dude, reality is that our skin is brown and not black!! Don't you know what the color black looks like? I have never seen a BLACK African. Even some of the darkest skinned people of Africa in Bayelsa, Sudan, Ghana etc can't be called BLACK.
Alex9999: The US trains are old models too. The US is looking to upgrade -- hyperloop and such. The Europeans are moving away from these nonsense, even China -- the salesperson. So to summarize, because the US does it does not mean it's latest/best. Wake up!
Hyperloop is still largely experimental and may not become widely used for the next 10+ years.
Not every country in Europe has bullet trains and even for those that do, not every route is bullet train. America does not have a single bullet train.
The reality is that we are just not economically viable for reall high speed trains like we see above.
If the new rails we are building can achieve 120 to 150km/hr and is operationally efficient and helps move freight much more efficiently and turns a profit, it would be a success story that we can build on. China of 1970 could not afford it. They can only afford it now due to economic might. Same way Nigeria of today cannot afford it.
Alex9999: These whole focus on interstate trains do not make sense either. We need to move goods not humans. Humans in African barely move between states. Even in developed countries these trains run at huge losses. Google Amtrak losses! So look at the mirror regarding your first statement and economic sense -- as for new I meant model.
I totally agree with you. Passenger rail has hardly been profitable anywhere in the world by itself if freight isn't factored onto it.
foreshore: That assertion is not true. The difference in rate is in the class. This same thing we are talking about is what Nigerians embrace when abroad. Maybe you haven't had the opportunity to travel outside Nigeria, then you will understand this.
And how many nigerians are abroad? Maybe 5mln, but we have 200mln here. Besides those abroad receive better pay than those here, so they can afford it. Still doesn't mean it isn't expensive for them there too.
HabaHaba: Hmmmm. I love all you've written up there. However, I also want to remind you that our dear Nigeria is so rich that if we have correct leadership, we will not be getting less. Nigeria is rich enough to have better infrastructure than it is dishing out to its citizens.
Very sad indeed.
Nigeriabis nowhere near as rich as you think. All that Nigeria is rich and we are giant of Africa is all old gist. Not relevant anymore. While Nigeria would be much better with sincere, purposeful leadership, Nigeria as at today is not rich.
Don't be daft. These are brand new. Not bullet trains doesn't mean they are old. Not every developed country has bullet trains. The economics have to make sense for bullet trains or any type of train for that matter.
A project that does not make economic sense with bullet train of $10bln, can make sense with normal train of $2bln.
