Good Day My Good People, Pls Does A Self Employed Person Need To State A Monthly Salary In The Ds-160 Form Or Should He Leave The Column Blank Since His Income Only Depends On Anytime He Makes A Sale. This Is How It Is Stated In The Form; Monthly Salary In Local Currency (If Employed). I Will Appreciate All Your Good Response.

For those in self employment, it's a good practice to place yourself on annual salary and earn dividends, bonuses etc after a successful year end. The totality becomes your total earnings.

To determine your monthly salary, simply divide your total earnings as described above, by 12. Your total earnings in the previous year can be ascertained, so you should use the figures obtained for this period.

If you have been discharging your tax responsibilities, your taxable income as stated on your tax clearance certificate can be divided by 12, to arrive at your average monthly income.

Good day House. Please could any one be so kind to guide me on how to sort for a cheap flight ticket to US.The prices am getting is pretty high. Thank you

One option is to search for flights to nearby airports, and evaluate the possibility on continuing by coach or local flights.

Flights to New York are usually reasonable, you may also want to look at this option too, and there are so many affordable connecting flights from LaGuardia airport.

Look at you.. grin grin grin saying this with confidence... my friend is a protocol officer and he earns $385 per day on a 10 day trip and he does that twice a month.. apart from DTA and other allowances... bro forget ooo some civil servant schedule alone will earn you a million every month without steal or doing any fraudulent activities... open up your mind.

Why are you in a haste to respond to my post without comprehending it?

If you know that the person made money from DTAs etc, is that not explainable?

Again, I emphasize that US Embassy does not give visas to civil servants that have unexplained huge savings or properties.

You said civil servant and let's talk about the Education Officer, what if he's the state supervisor clerk or secretary do you know what his DTA per month will be? that alone is enough for a return trip to U.S. Like I said before open up your mind.

"Education Officer" is a position in the civil service and it's a Grade Level 08 job.

See this advert to be better informed:

https://ngcareers.com/job/2017-09/education-officer-ii-gl-08-at-889

The person that came here to seek for public opinion, has not contested what I wrote, so I don't understand why you're arguing on what you don't know.

Stay within the context of our discussion, this is a level 8 or at best level 9 civil servant that is sponsoring himself and not government. So the issue of DTA does not come in.

When I give opinion here, it is out of experience and a very rich one too.

so you think all civil servants earn 50k per month? For your information some that works in parastatals earn big with bogus bonuses and are millionaires as they climb up

Please let talk within the context of the discussion. The discussion is about an Education Officer that applied for US B1/B2 visa. Mention any state paying more than 50k to a Grade Level 08 Officer.

Anyone earning bogus bonus should be a criminally minded person. Any decent civil servant that is erroneously paid a bogus bonus, should return it to the treasury.

You can go to check whether your passport is ready for collection. You can wait to see what happens eventually. You can write the embassy. (Perhaps you printed out now, an old DS160 form.

Both the confirmation page and appointment confirmation have your passport number. The passport number on your confirmation page is derived directly from the DS160 form, upon submission. I think that if it were incorrect, you should have been turned back at the take-in before entering the consulate. (Gurus, am I right to think this way?)

I agree with you, and in addition the old passport would have been CANCELLED WITHOUT PREJUDICE by the Nigeria Immigration Service. So it couldn't have been presented to the VO without him noticing that.

An Education Officer is on GL 08, of which the monthly salary is about 50k per month in the state with best salary structure. This is just 600k per annum.

If you're honest with yourself, someone earning less than 600k in a year won't spend a year salary on holiday.

BabaRamota1980:

My brother, i respect your response there but i guarantee you some people have done it the way you suggested and still were denied.

The truth is these vo's use strong ties to the homeland as collateral but there are Nigerians who abandoned strong ties and overstayed their visa with calculation to become US residents.

Let's think about this for a moment. The whole selection process is not standardized, it's all "discretionary".

It's like a taste test to pick which dish is best in a cooking competition. Judges will grade differently.

That's the fvck we are faced with when you walk up to a vo (judge) who has a sniffle and inflammed nostril that morning and could not get a whiff of your delicacy to rank you top.

We are wasting money. We are supplying the funds that sustain operational cost for the US Consulate and Embassy and they reward us with humiliation.

I know, not all applicants are qualified and must necessarily be denied, nonetheless, our acceptance rate ought to be far more impressive than what it is.

This guy you respond to should be given a visa going by his posted interaction with the vo.

Look my brother, there are certain elements in the Nigerian society that have proven track records of self-starter and competencies, and are crime free. Those elements are a gain to the American society even if they left on a pretense of returning to Nigeria but remained behind in US. This guy falls into that category and the discretion should have taken this into consideration.

US does not want dependents, economic burdens on their social welfare system. Does this guy look like somebody that will go line up for their welfare checks?

This is fvckery! angry

So far, I adjudge this post as the best from BabaRamota. Save for the few words I don't like, I would have said I agree with him absolutely.

Having said that, let me point out that the I advice gave is only help self employed US visa seekers better articulate themselves.

I can personally relate to most of the issues you have raised. I work with a very reputable institution and travel to US very frequently on G visa, but had a very unpleasant experience when I applied for B1/B2 visa. I once shared that experience here, see attached.

I have also stated here before, that I prefer the UK's method of assessing visa applicants to US style.

General Information

The B-1/B-2 visitor visa is for people traveling to the United States temporarily for business (B-1) or for pleasure or medical treatment (B-2.
Generally, the B-1 visa is for travelers consulting with business associates, attending scientific, educational, professional or business conventions/conferences, settling an estate or negotiating contracts
The B-2 visa is for travel that is recreational in nature, including tourism, visits with friends or relatives, medical treatment and activities of a fraternal, social or service nature. Often, the B-1 and B-2 visas are combined and issued as one visa: the B-1/B-2.

Yes, if no income is involved but this is limited to photography and not video recording or film production.

Filming material for commercial entertainment or advertising purposes
A media visa cannot be used by applicants whose purpose of travel to the U.S. is to film, or work on a film, intended primarily for commercial entertainment or advertising purposes. A temporary worker visa is required".

It is quite disheartening to see Nigerians travel abroad in search of greener pasture. Nigeria is a land full of potentials and great opportunities, but why the search for a greener pasture elsewhere?

Believe me, Nigeria is known internationally to be endowed with virtually all the human resources needed to keep a country moving. This is confusing and thus comes this poser, why do Nigerians travel outside in search of Jobs?

However, this is a question I believe most people have an answer to. Trading from the East, West, South and North, I deduced that the reason for this act is linked to political instability, economic quagmire and social unrest.

Watch for yourself the video clip:

In the above video clip, a man said over 5000 Nigerians were alleged to have traveled to Dubia in search of jobs but were disappointed after all. Most of them have two weeks visa, a month visa while some acquired one year, two years and three years.

The message to intending-Dubai travelers is that ‘There is No Job in Dubai’.

Hello all.Silent reader here... Had my visa interview on Monday 26th but unfortunately wasn't granted. Below is my transcript:

V.O. Morning
Me. Morning and how are you?
V.O. Fine....... Can I have your passport please?
Me. Here you go.
V.O. So why are you travelling to the US?
Me. I will be taking some time off work to go on a vacation and it will be great to visit New York.
V.O. Why New York?
Me. New York is a cosmopolitan city that attracts lots of tourist ...... ( she just cut me off and move to the next question ).
V.O. how long will you be staying for?
Me. I will be staying for 14 days.
V.O. Do you know anyone in New York?
Me. No I don't.
V.O. What do you do for work sir?
Me. I am the owner of ..... ( mention my company name) and I hire out trucks , caterpillar earth moving equipment and I supply aggregate stones and sands for building construction.
V.O. How long have you been doing this?
Me. 6 years and 5 month and it will be 7 years by October 19.
V.O. How long have you been married for sir?
Me. (looked surprised) and told her am happily single.
V.O. she apologized and asked how many kids I have
Me. I don't have any.
V.O. Have you travel out of your country before?
Me. I have been to south Africa 3 times and I was there last year July for vacation.
V.O. Unfortunately your are not qualified abi eligible (didn't even remember how she said it) for a NIV at this time this paper( 214b) will explain why and bla bla bla....
Me. Thank you and have a good day.

No documents were checked, didn't even go with any since I have read here that documents are not required . They only want to have a conversation with you. I will be going somewhere else for my vacation by June and will apply again hopefully next year.
My sincere gratitude goes to all the gurus in the house ( Seyewest, Twoods, Lady Guinivere, omobendel, e.t.c) and those that share there transcripts to make someone like me have an idea of the application and interview process. I really learn a lot here. Please Gurus, kindly point out where I go wrong so correction(s) can be made for future interview. Regards

Do you believe that you have strong ties? If you think so, this didn't reflect in the manner you responded. Your response on reason for wanting to visit NY looked like a rehearsed answer, unfortunately, this answer also did not address the question. You should have talked about the reasons why you wanted to visit NY, rather than why other tourists are attracted to NY. Same for your response on how long your company has been in operation, you didn't sound natural.

Your company and the SA trips, for me are your strengths which you didn't use.

When asked about your work, I would have said something like "I am self employed, my business is CosAde Ltd which I started from scratch. The company is into ..... with a turnover of xx million naira last year. Next two years, I am hoping to double that".

For self employed, if you want your business to be seen as a strong tie, then say something concisely about the business, it's past, present and future in not more than two sentences.

Finally, be mindful that the VO can ask for proofs so no lies.

Apart from my official email, I have personal email addresses with my domain for my family members. This does not cost me up to N20,000 yearly.
