who gets more recognition is the student that was consistent/outstanding in all the exams he sat for. a student who fails in the promotion exams will repeat even though he tops the state wide common entrance exams. kaka scoring 8 league goals in 30 starts in serie a is a failure. cheesy cheesy cheesy

@ hnic,
exactly my point, why go that far if u don't really care about the competition? alex ferguson also uses his kids when playing in the carling cup. majority of the clubs do that until jose mourinho came to chelsea. if arsene wenger doesn't want his team to be walked over then it simply means he cares about the competition. its logic. beating liverpool 6-3 at anfield and beating spurs/everton means wenger was serious and wanted to win the competition. the only reason he left henry, gallas and silva on the stands was because he believed the lads he set out against chelsea were good enough to beat chelsea. afterall the same group of kids had licked liverpool, everton and spurs en route the final.

@ wormedup,
how can anyone say wenger doesn't really care about the league cup? no one wld question his managerial capabilities if he had won carling cups in the last 2 seasons. what about the champions league? he doesn't really care about that as well? cheesy cheesy why did he go all the way to the final last season if he didn't care about the carling cup?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cougar: 10:27am On Jan 16, 2008
@ loyika,
what else did kaka lead his team to win apart from the ucl(which they shouldn't even have played). kaka that scored 8 league goals all season, kaka that was stopped playing by makelele and vieira in the world cup, the same kaka that had only the ucl to play for as they were too far off winning the scudetto, kaka has nothing on cristiano ronaldo. he is too ordinary. why did milan have to wait for pato and big ronaldo to win their first league game at san siro after 5 months? the same kaka played and lost in the milan derby, lost at home to roma and even empoli. kaka? the only thing he will lead milan to is another 4th place on the serie a table. pato is the new box office in milan not the one-off donkey kaka.

@ debosky,
dayo and bigbadwolf are awo boys. they are notoriously lousy. how anyone in this millennium can come out to say bayern munich is better than man utd because they won 2 ucl titles beggars belief. i cannot remember the last time united failed to play in the ucl. bayern is not among the elite of europe.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Cougar: 11:52pm On Jan 15, 2008
ferguson doesn't give a damn about the league cup as well but he still had to win it so he can say he has won everything winnable at club level. wenger hasn't won anything in europe and is yet to win the league cup. he must try and win everything. time is ticking away. wenger wants the carling cup but it keeps evading him. we should just hope he overcomes tottenham in the coming weeks.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Cougar: 11:30pm On Jan 15, 2008
i am not in anyway related to jackal. there is only one me. arsenal's exit in 2006 was more disgraceful than man utd's exit. this is a competition united won in 2006. there's no hunger and drive to win the competition. ferguson is more focused to win the big ones. how do u explain the fact that arsene wenger has failed to win the same competition in 11 attempts? wenger was so determined to win it that season and he played pires, henry, bergkamp, reyes, hleb and van persie and still failed to win the competition.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cougar: 11:19pm On Jan 15, 2008
@ dayokanu,
united was skint at the back. no rio and evra at the back four. another factor is fatigue. united went to old trafford on the back of the goodison park battle when they came from 2 goals down to win 4-2 with 30 minutes to go. kaka and his comrades had 1 week off preparing for the massive game at san siro. i pray we meet milan again this season and lets see how good they are.
zidane played the game of his life against croatia. he was the best player by far on the pitch(never mind thuram's fluke goals). zidane was dominant in the middle of the pack and was spraying passes relentlessly. zidane won the player of the year because he stopped dunga and emerson from playing in the final. he outplayed every brazilian player in his way in the world cup final. del piero was nowhere to be found in the mundial. he got stuck playing against ji sung park and ann jun wai.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Cougar: 11:06pm On Jan 15, 2008
if u consider the fact that arsene wenger hasn't won it in 10 attempts as at 2006, it was shameful. man utd has won the carling cup before and it's the least in ferguson's priorities. wenger must try and win it so that he can concentrate on winning the ucl which has also evaded him. btw, can u skip the wannabe traits for once? its like u are forcing urself to act tough. it just doesn't match ur personalty. its like a village girl munching sushi. cheesy cheesy cheesy
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Cougar: 10:09pm On Jan 15, 2008
@ mcomo,
shit happens. i remember arsenal going under the hammer in highbury against wigan athletic in the carling cup semis in 2006 in a competition arsene wenger has never won before. that is more shameful. cheesy cheesy cheesy
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cougar: 10:03pm On Jan 15, 2008
@mcomo,
i have not seen anything in the last 18 months that suggests kaka is a better player than ronaldo. in the famous san siro battle, kaka had a ffield day playing against the weakest united defence without evra, neville and rio. ronaldo in his shoes will bag a hatrick on the night. henry dived at arsenal but does that mean adebayor is better than him on that issue? messi is a diver so we should conclude van persie is better than him on that note. your argument has holes bigger than the end of a cannon.
brazil didn't play well at the mundial but big players are expected to drag their teams along no matter what. maradona did that for argentina in the 86 and 90 world cups. ronaldo and drogba did that in the premiership but kaka could only help his team with a 4th position and now in the 12th position in italy. the most consistent performer in the last 18 months in europe is ronaldo. he featured in all competitions and was excellent throughout. this is not about club allegiance. its reality.

@dayokanu,
i will ignore your rants after this comment because u are proving to be a novice in the soccer world. how can u ask me where zidane was during france 98? zidane bagged a red card in the group stages and missed 3 games. he gave a virtuoso performance against croatia in the semis and had the game of his life in the final. ronaldo won fifa player of the year in 2002 because he broke a  30 year-old record by scoring 8 goals in the tournament. the tally was stuck at 6 goals throughout the 80s and the 90s.
ronaldo showed class against roma and scored against ac milan at old trafford. he also scored the last penalty shoot-out that eliminated england despite being booed by the whole world. kaka in that situation would have kicked the ball out of the stadium. ronaldo played against bolton? i insist u need to brush up your football knowledge.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Cougar: 9:36pm On Jan 15, 2008
@ debosky,
u are getting it wrong. someone asked me why a team that has lost only once is below a team that has lost thrice. the simple reason is arsenal draws too many games for their own good. united have won more matches than arsenal despite losing 3 games and that is what arsenal has to work on. arsenal adores unbeaten which can be deceptive because unbeaten in itself means victories and draws. the number of games won is the most important factor and the team that wins most games will take the title. united is looking more like that team if u consider their home run. it has a champion's foot-print written all over it. P12 W11 D1 L0 GF29 GA3 GD+26. only jose mourinho in his prime could have matched this kind of run especially when this united side have won 11 consecutive home games.

at this stage, i must admit nairaland forum needs a psycho-surgeon. everyone has turned to keifer sutherland in unraveling cougar. cheesy cheesy cheesy

@dayokanu,
your analysis has even damaged kaka's reputation the more by saying he picks his game. how is that consistent? a player that goes dark for 8 games and only shines after having 4 weeks rest in big games is a world class player? i saw ronaldo scoring 2 goals in 3 minutes at highbury at the age of 19. it seems arsenal is not a big team. the same ronaldo ran the arsenal defence back to the stone age at the 2005 fa cup final. kaka is a world class player and he couldn't save his team from defeat in the milan derby. he couldn't even show his class when milan lost at home to roma and even a useless side like empoli. kaka is the only fifa player of the year in the last decade that does not justify the title. what a shame!!! u dont know your football.

@mcomo,
kaka has been painting the town red? how old is ronaldo compared to kaka? ronaldo had a better outing in the world cup than non-existent kaka who was outclassed by makelele and vieira. ronaldo lit up the stage in euro 2004 at the age of 19 and was one of the best young players of the tournament. people continue to say ronaldo does not play at the big stage but he scored 8 goals in 11 euro2008 qualifiers. the countries he played against must be fulham, sunderland and luton fc. u guys need to brush up your football knowledge. i am disappointed and cannot believe what i am reading from youse.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cougar: 5:43pm On Jan 15, 2008
@ akinalabi,
you are 100% correct. what makes ronaldo great was the way he let his football do the talking after the world cup. a lot of people forget he was public enemy number 1 as at 18 months ago. he went about his football in a professional way and has convinced 90%(never mind the foolish 10%) that he is unarguably one of the best players to have played in the epl. seeing a midfielder performing consistently week in week out and outscoring all epl strikers despite playing 4 games less is phenomenal. without mincing words, i think he has continued where he left off last season whereas kaka had to wait for luiz ronaldo and pato to win milan's first serie a game after 5 months.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cougar: 4:13pm On Jan 15, 2008
@ dayokanu,
do u watch football at all? your last drivel does suggest u listen more to pub gists. ronaldo goes missing in big games? apart from san siro where fatigue got better of him, where else has he failed to light up at the big stage. he scored against milan at OT under 10 mins. he scored twice against roma. he scored twice against arsenal at highbury at the age of 19. he scored at the emirates this season, he has provided various assists against big clubs so this theory holds no water that ronaldo goes missing.

now to kaka, where was kaka when celtic bludgeoned them at celtic park this season. where was kaka against france in the world cup when zidane stole the show. what is kaka doing to milan's 12th position in serie a as we speak. what was kaka's contribution against inter milan when they were subjected to a collosal damage, where was kaka when barcelona came to san siro in 2006 to teach them a lesson. where was kaka when milan lost at home to roma(the same roma  united whupped 7-1 last season courtesy of cristiano ronaldo). kaka can be outstanding on his day but anyone who watches serie a week in week out would know that he is more inconsistent than ronaldo. ma point is, u cannot isolate a single match to define a player. henry, messi, ronaldinho and even maradona also had bad games in their career.

@ mcomo, dayokanu, mrpataki and co.
it seems u have ur cross-lines distorted for taking me for someone else. it seems any member that supports man utd and can stand tall to the gooners on this thread is jackal. jackal must be a legend on this forum which is why many of u think every man utd fan is jackal. was reading the previous pages of this topic and i noticed i-man, 4play and rikkyjean have been linked to be jackal as well. it must be the land of sherlock holmes.

@ loyika,
ronaldo is not a finished product yet but he is arguably the best player in the planet as we speak. in the epl, he is unarguably the best since henry left the shores of the country. football fans are up on their seats when ronaldo is in possession of the ball. he is very close to george best and will get better as he is still 22. all he needs is to improve on is his decision making in the final third and the sky is the limit. there is only one ronaldoooooooo.

what manner for heaven's sake? dropping points at home?? Did MU not do it? How does one result equal 'towing a dangerous path'? undecided

These premise-conclusion linkages you are making are not supported by rational deductive reasoning.

y'all need to calm down a bit, MU was expected to beat Bolton a couple of weeks back but slipped up, and they drew the game before this one as well which was not expected, so stuff will happen from time to time. Does MU slipping up couple of weeks ago mean they were heading for 3rd place?
i thought u know about the epl than this. man utd did not draw the game before the newcastle game. the last time man utd drew was at the emirates. no thanks to the eagled-eye line assistant. the only reason why man utd is on top of the table is because they have won the highest number of games.
apart from the 2 draws at the start of the season against reading and pompey, united has kept the draws to the barest minimum. while arsenal can gloat they have only lost once, they have enough draws to drown an elephant which is their greatest undoing.

@ loyika,
arsenal tv is a complete joke. tell the decision makers to ensure that tv programmes start earlier than 5pm. they should take a cue from mutv or realmadrid tv and see how things are done cheesy cheesy cheesy  the analysis i saw yesterday was so biased and can u please tell them to talk more about arsenal and leave cristiano ronaldo alone? ronaldo's name was mentioned over 500 times yesterday evening and one would think he actually plays for the red and white army.
SportsRe: Sepp Blatter Shocked About England by Cougar: 6:28pm On Jan 14, 2008
gerd muller? is this a joke? where is johan cryuff? franz beckenbauer the best defender in the world? where's paolo maldini? go and get ur statistics right before we talk about present crop of players. can we leave the 70s and below out of this? if drogba had played in the 50s he would be scoring 100 goals in a season. the football of them days is dodgy.
SportsRe: Sepp Blatter Shocked About England by Cougar: 5:44pm On Jan 14, 2008
they have a philosophy that has won 21 major titles in the last 21 years. 9 epl titles and are on the march again to retain it. mention one single player that is better than ronaldo in the whole bayern munich history. cheesy cheesy cheesy
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Cougar: 5:30pm On Jan 14, 2008
@ loyika,
if arsenal continues in this manner they might finish 3rd. arsenal is towing a dangerous path. birmingham is a team wenger should be beating easily especially at the emirates. you are right when u said the title is open but with the way things are, man utd's momentum is an added advantage. chelsea has shown they can buy one or two quality players plus they have 7-8 of their senior team coming back in the 2nd half of the season. strength in depth favours man utd and chelsea over arsenal. wenger needs to shore up and ensure his team nicks 3 points even when they are not playing well.
SportsRe: Sepp Blatter Shocked About England by Cougar: 5:21pm On Jan 14, 2008
@ akinalabi,
i drink to that. no club does it better than man utd. they have been able to work on a philosophy that guarantees result and entertainment. from george best to cantona to beckham and now cristiano ronaldo. man utd deserves praise in the way they stopped the roman revolution from taking everything. imagine the epl without man utd last season!!!! cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

i dont understand what you are about. what therapy are u talking about here? i hope u dont have me mixed-up with someone else. be straight and get your co-ordinates right. man utd will win the ucl as long as they can offload louis saha and get a replacement. united needs another body to cover up for the space of saha and solskjaer. at this stage, i will manage a kewyne jones or julius agahowa.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cougar: 4:30pm On Jan 14, 2008
@ dayokanu,
u seem to be missing the point. arsenal topping the group all this while can be regarded as a fluke. a team that couldn't finish as group leaders have no business topping the epl--it makes a mockery of the epl. as it is, the deserved team is back at the top of things. don't expect man utd to relent. they will open the gap especially when the african legion of arsenal are absent.

world class strikers will fashion out a way of playing with each other. i heard loads of that when tevez was to join man utd. u only need to see tevez and messi work in tandem to know that tevez and rooney can play together. now, drogba and anelka will be the new andy cole/dwight yorke combination. u can also see them as the new shevchenko/rebrov combination. drogba and anelka will flourish. i cant wait to see them play together. almunia/lehmann must be quaking in their boots by now. cheesy cheesy
