What people don't say about this is what's fueling the crime, drugs, violence, and apathy. These young men are facing a lack of opportunities, racism, dysfunctional families, and more. There's also the fact that many of them join gangs not because they want to, but because they don't want to be victimized by gangs/criminals terrorizing where they live. In some cases, gangs force kids to join by threatening them and their family if they don't. Some of these people find family and support in gangs. Maybe if we did a better job of looking after the youth, they wouldn't get swept up by criminals. These headlines ignore these details as if these people were born criminals. That said, some people are lazy and refuse to work for anything. But frankly many of the rich are no different from criminals. We should see as many headlines about the evil greed of politicians and rich people as we do about d0pe boys and gangs. |
