Steps: Clean vegetables to rid them of dirt, debris, and insects. Don’t overfill sealing bags. Follow instructions for your sealer to the letter; if you don’t use the machine exactly as the manufacturer intended, don’t expect good results. Always label packages, and include the processing date. When processing large batches, take breaks to transfer sealed bags to the freezer. Food should never sit out on counter for more than 2 hours. Remove bags from storage using the FIFO system – First In, First Out. That way, the oldest produce will get used up first (instead of getting buried at the bottom of the freezer where it will ruin). thehealthykitchenshop.com/vacuum-sealing-vegetables/ |
On average, vacuum sealing will keep vegetables fresh 3 to 5 times longer. To extend storage time far longer, many vegetables can be flash frozen first and then vacuum sealed. Some foods will last for up to 2 years when preserved this way. You need to research the proper way to do this. Yes, blanching is necessary for several reasons. Even when frozen, active enzymes in food can rob them of color, flavor, and nutrients. Blanching stops this process so that freshness can be preserved after vacuum sealing and freezing. Another problem addressed by blanching is the gases that are emitted by cruciferous vegetables. “Cruciferous” means vegetables related to the mustard family such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, radishes, and turnips. Left unblanched, your neatly sealed vacuum bags would fill up with this gas, and the produce would spoil. Timing and methods used in blanching can vary. The water method is recommended for most vegetables, and for complete details see this chart of blanching times provided by The National Center for Home Food Preservation. Two vegetables are NOT suitable for vacuum packaging. They are mushrooms and garlic. The problem is that some foods contain anaerobic bacteria, and this bacteria can grow even in the absence of air. That means that even inside a vacuum sealed pouch, the bacteria will continue growing inside the food, making it dangerous to eat. There may be other vegetables like this, do your research. Most important, by far, is cleanliness. Before you begin, clean your entire work area, including the counter tops and utensils. Wash your hands, but still, you should avoid touching food. Either use tongs or spoons, or wear food grade gloves. You also want to read about risks of food poisoning with vacuum sealed foods that are improperly prepared or stored. Steps in next post. |

The United States wants to expand security cooperation with the Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea, a US official said on Tuesday (Apr 26), amid concerns in Washington about China's motives for striking a security pact with the nearby Solomon Islands. A US delegation met Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape and its defence chiefs last week and plan to hold further security discussions in the coming months, said US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink. "There is a desire on both sides to ensure we take concrete steps to expand our security cooperation," he told reporters in a call. Last Friday, the United States said it had warned Solomon Islands Prime Minister Mannaseh Sogavare that it would have "significant concerns and respond accordingly" to any steps to establish a permanent Chinese military presence. China said previously that the security agreement signed last week does not pose a risk to the United States. China has criticised Australia, which is less than 2,000km away and historically provided policing to the Solomon Islands, for opposing it. Kritenbrink, part of a White House delegation that travelled to the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Fiji last week, said that Sogavare had reiterated in the meeting that the China agreement was focused on domestic security needs and that there would be no military base. However, the United States would monitor developments, because it was concerned by the lack of transparency and China's motives, he said. "They are completely unclear because this agreement has not been scrutinised," Kritenbrink said, adding that the concern was shared by regional partners, Pacific island nations and among the Solomon Islands' people. The Solomon Islands occupies a strategic position for shipping lanes and communications in the Pacific... Ethiopian authorities have arrested four suspects in connection with the Sunday bomb attack at a hotel in the historic city of Harar. In a statement on Tuesday, Harari Regional State Police Commissioner, Nesri Zekerya, said that the four suspects are being investigated. “Police are monitoring the situation closely,” the statement added. Eight people were injured after a bomb exploded inside the hotel in the capital of Harari Regional State, regional Police Commissioner said. The explosion happened on Sunday night as Ethiopians across the country were celebrating the Easter holiday. Four of the eight victims were treated for minor injuries and returned home immediately, while the rest remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the second in the region in less than two weeks. Sunday night's attack comes one day after Ethiopian authorities announced the arrest of 34 suspected members of Al-Shabaab terror group. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) said the Shabaab suspects were planning to carry out terror attacks in various parts of the country during the Easter holiday. Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) on Tuesday said it found oil in three new wells drilled off the coastof Guyana, raising recoverable oil and gas potential from its discoveries to nearly 11 billion barrels. The discoveries continue a run of exploration successes that date to 2015, and lifts potential oil and gas volumes by nearly 1 billion barrels. Exxon and partners Hess Corp (HES.N) and CNOOC Ltd (0883.HK) are responsible for almost all oil and gas output in the South American country. Guyana has emerged as a key source for Exxon's future production, with 31 oil discoveries in its giant Stabroek block so far. It and partners say they plan to pump 1.2 million barrels of oil and gas per day from the block by 2027. Exxon discovered hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone at Barreleye-1, Patwa-1 and Lukanani-1 wells, it said. The new findings are located southeast of its existing Liza and Payara oil developments, Exxon's first and third projects in Guyana. Liza Phase 1 is producing approximately 130,000 barrels per day using the Liza Destiny floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, Exxon said. Liza Phase 2, which started production in February, is steadily ramping up to its projected capacity of 220,000 bpd using the Liza Unity FPSO, according to the company. A third project, Payara, is expected to produce 220,000 bpd. Construction of a FPSO for Payara is running approximately five months ahead of schedule with start-up likely before year-end 2023, Exxon said. The fourth project, Yellowtail, is expected to produce 250,000 bpd when the One Guyana FPSO comes online in 2025, Exxon said. One of South America's poorest nations, Guyana plans to use proceeds from its share of oil production to build roads, bridges, houses, gas-fired power plants and solar energy projects. Guyana last week said it sold a 1 million-barrel cargo of crude oil that it calls Unity Gold through a competitive bidding process that Exxon won with a bid of $106 per barrel. Exxon has made a final investment decision on four Stabroek block projects so far and has said the number could hit 10 production units. reuters.com/business/energy/exxon-makes-three-new-discoveries-guyana-increases-oil-reserves-2022-04-26/ |

There are people working long hours in stressful jobs who don't get consistently paid. Even when they get paid, it's scraps. There are people with engineering degrees doing multiple unskilled jobs abroad. The problem isn't them, it's government. More specifically, it's a combination of outsiders sabotaging the country and economy, and the narcissists who enable them. |
Since when do oyinbos engage in fair trade? They go out of their way to steal billions (and ensure they can continue to) all the time. That said, there are indeed companies in Nigeria and all over Africa worth that much and more. There are also startups with that potential. |
Interesting. |
You can graft pretty much any nightshade vegetables onto a potato plant. And you can grow multiple things on a single plant, for example, eggplant, habanero, and bell peppers on a potato plant. You can also graft within a species, e.g. prunus (stone) fruits. However, you can easily kill the main plant or lose the graft if you're not very careful. You really have to do your research. But it's definitely worth it if you're growing in a small space for personal use.

lol That lady looks like she cheats. She looks like she'd marry a 102 year old man if the money was right. |
Honestly, you shouldn't trust someone like that. I wouldn't put it past him to be physically abusive. Furthermore, if a man thinks that little of women, he may like men. |
Yes. Why wouldn't that be possible? Unless he's a robot. |
Banuso99:I don't know about other places, but a lot of oil money is about to drop in Guyana. They're a small country with a very small population, so I think it's reasonable to have someone like that on their board (for now). It's not much different from using consultants. They need the help. |
So the development that's driving all of this is CLT, cross laminated timber. When you think about it, if this works, you can "print" a whole city. And it only takes 2 months to build one of these. Here's more on the material. apawood.org/cross-laminated-timber Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is a large-scale, prefabricated, solid engineered wood panel. Lightweight yet very strong, with superior acoustic, fire, seismic and thermal performance, CLT is also fast and easy to install, generating almost no waste onsite. CLT offers design flexibility and low environmental impacts. For these reasons, cross-laminated timber is proving to be a highly advantageous alternative to conventional materials like concrete, masonry or steel, especially in multifamily and commercial construction. A CLT panel consists of several layers of kiln-dried lumber boards stacked in alternating directions, bonded with structural adhesives, and pressed to form a solid, straight, rectangular panel. CLT panels consist of an odd number of layers (usually, three to seven,) and may be sanded or prefinished before shipping. While at the mill, CLT panels are cut to size, including door and window openings, with state-of-the art CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) routers, capable of making complex cuts with high precision. Finished CLT panels are exceptionally stiff, strong and stable, handling load transfer on all sides. |

Long-serving United Kingdom parliamentarian, David Lammy, has been selected by Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali to sit on the Natural Resource Fund (NRF) Board which will be chaired by former military chief, Retired Major General Joseph Singh, the Office of the President announced on Wednesday. Lammy, who is currently Shadow Foreign Secretary, is the son of a Guyanese mother who migrated to the United Kingdom as part of the 1948-1971 Windrush Generation. Also sitting on the NRF Board to help manage Guyana’s oil revenues is Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Carolyn Rodrigues who is also a former Guyana Foreign Minister. Other members are private sector representative, well-known city business executive Ramesh Dookhoo and former People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) executive member, former bauxite industry executive Dunstan Barrow. Nominees by the opposition A Partnership for National Unity and its coalition partner, Alliance For Change, for the parliamentary representative had been all rejected by the governing People’s Progressive Party Civic in favour of Mr. Barrow. The NRF Board Chairman served the Guyana Defence Force from 1965 until his retirement as Chief-of-Staff in 2000. He then went on to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Executive Director of Conservation International, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission , and Presidential Advisor. demerarawaves.com/2022/04/20/british-parliamentarian-on-guyanas-sovereign-wealth-fund-board/ |

The project, named Rocket&Tigerli, will consist of four buildings including one that boasts a 100-meter-tall (328-foot) tower. The development will be built in the Swiss city of Winterthur, which is located near Zurich. The design will offer modern, high-quality housing with a maximum inflow of daylight, according to its designers, the Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects (SHL). It will also seek to create an active neighborhood that will be "rooted in the area's historical context," according to a press release from the firm. The facade, for example, will be covered in dark red and yellow terracotta bricks combined with dusty green-colored details -- in keeping with the red roofs and yellow bricks of the older buildings in the surrounding area. "We approach this project with a great sense of humbleness," Kristian Ahlmark, partner and design director at SHL, is quoted as saying in the press release. "It is a big project that will have a significant influence on the community, socially as well as aesthetically. Because of the strong expertise Switzerland has, when it comes to building in wood, we are particularly proud to be working on this ground-breaking project." The four buildings will comprise of housing facilities as well as spaces for retail, a sky bar and a hotel. It is expected to be completed and ready for residents to move into by 2026. The project marks a milestone in the construction of timber buildings, said SHL. The firm added that, at 100 meters, it sets the record for residential buildings with a load-bearing timber construction, and "introduces an innovative construction system that examines wood as a natural replacement for concrete." "This makes it possible to build taller constructions while, at the same time, ensures that the entire building process achieves a lower amount of embedded carbon," the press release stated.
