What’s a spade? that Nigerians are criminals and are looking to leach off the United States? Speak for yourself and perhaps the people you know because I don’t know where you’re from.

Read how he mentions Elon Musk as if he got the EB1 green card but the loser, with all his self-proclaimed first class and intelligent genes still married an obese homeless American then come back around here to petulantly vent his frustrations talking down on people with dreams that are looking to make a difference.

Now his younger brother is a plastic surgeon in America cheesy that one too ran away and lied to the VO that he was going to return to treat Buhari to help Nigeria save from his frequent London trips cheesy

Seriously, only victims of abuse would need some pathetic narcissist like Twoods to inspire them before they get their life together; and they need therapy.

Neither is he the first and last and neither will YOU. I guess you never saw when he mentioned he and his arrangee wife were voting for Trump and in support of stopping more Nigerians from going to the US. Well, having Nigeria on this list is something he and his American wife had always wanted.

I have seen just about anything on Nairaland over the years and I ignore but that guy is on a whole level of hypocrisy and stupid. If he is somebody that you look up to then, sorry to say you need therapy.

You’re right, live and don’t mention me so that you can live as well.

It just means even with funding and admission that it is not guaranteed. It was hard before and I can only imagine how it will be nowadays.

For some of us here in the US it hurts especially having some money and no immigrant intent but not able to invite family over to the US because they just take the fees and refuse visas on temperament of some VO that's going to transfer debt to their kids.

The Supreme Court of the US recently passed a wealth test requirement for immigrants. Look up.

They pretend denying Oyedepo was fake news as if they don’t normally deny people visas with major investments and family in the US routinely. Just because Oyedepo is very popular they don’t want bad PR so idiots like Twoods would continue blaming Nigerians like they’re the ones that blew up the WTC.

For implications, keep your options open and expand them. If you’re good enough to get funding from the US you can get from countries in Europe and it would be easier, I hope, to migrate to the US from because truly this is the land of immigrants.

Keep your head up. Visa denial from the US would be jealousy at this point and nothing to sweat about.

How does this affect people with interest in US schools?

Twoods that married for papers would blame Oyedepo for having criminal and immigrant tendencies. undecided The Supreme Court recently approved wealth test for immigrants ie. proof that immigrants would never have to use social services while in the US. Another day another hurdle. The other day they deported an Iranian student with a valid visa even with a court injunction for a stay.

So guys if you get a refusal, do not be too hard on yourself. Just do your best and also expand your options, I’m sure moving to the US would be easier from another country they do not have in their list.

She highly recommends that you to apply. That’s a good sign. Trust me, they ignore the majority of the emails they receive about group/research interest.

A simple ‘Thank you for getting back to me. I would/have put forward my application (as soon as possible)’ would do.

I usually would not respond unless I have a follow up question or until I have applied. Either way, be courteous in correspondence.

Except that ‘societal/society’ is a concept that isn't tangible and the societal failings are brought about by the same people you suggest not to hold responsible.

How can you create a decent and working society when Jesus/Mohammed is coming soon to destroy everything and take a few people away to paradise?

How can one have a good grasp of reality believing in such superstitious crap?

Extremist religious thought, especially the Nigerian brand that is mixed with illiteracy and willful ignorance is pernicious and antithetical to development and prosperity.

Nigeria is a nation obsessed with religion. You may blame it on poverty but are the rich, the so called educated, and elite any different in their fundamental beliefs in spite of the exposure their finances have afforded them?
GermanMelania:

Lol. Baby atheist. You are wrong. It is about living in an instable society. In the bible when they were prosperous they turned away from thier god. Likewise America is the most religious prosperous nation. There is very little social welfare. Gun violence. As is employment. And being poor is horrible. America is like naija where going out you don't know for surw you will be back home. You can easily get arrested for anything. It isn't about brain being done anything. But about life situation. If you live in japan and know that come what may that train will be there at 7am you will not need to be praying to meet it. In america you will not be praying for there to be light when you get home .If you live where you know if you get fired money will still coming you will not be stressing praying not to get fired. Until we create a better society please stop shaming people foe being religious. We should not hold individuals responsible for societal failings.

Certainly, huge cowards. I only said stupid out of empathy for the girl and anger towards the brainless manner these Christians go about advertising their pastor enriching crusades all up in people’s faces. So bloody annoying. One even told me ‘dead people come back alive’ in our church program undecided but the little girl constantly being raped and held because she held on ‘Jesus’ is now a Boko Haram mother.

Whenever I say religion is one of the main causes of backwardness and poverty in Nigeria many of them retort “what about UAE or Saudi or the US?” Stupid! A country obsessed with religion. angry
Freehuman:

Let's not call them stupid. Let's call them cowards . Many young and even middle aged Christians would not die today and go to heaven, they'd rather live on earth till they get old . That's the intuition , the natural wisdom in man that there may not be an afterlife. No christian believes 100 percent is heaven . Even the most extreme christian doesn't believe in heaven or love the Jewish God for his strict rules. It's the fear of hell that keeps them. It was why it (hell) was inserted in the manuscript centuries ago in Rome.

And stupid my brother. Nigerian Christians are some of the most stupid people on the face of the earth. Meanwhile, the God she refused to denounce is asking for tithes
Freehuman:

First of all Karma doesn't exist. Buhari and the Northern elites wouldn't have healthy children married to wealthy men and enjoying their lives across the globe.

Second, there is nothing out there to protect you. Hope and faith protects you until you meet reality.

Third, I do not support Boko Haram but I honestly think Christians in Nigeria are the most delusional and fearful people in this planet.

Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by CptCharlesVane: 8:14pm On Jan 20, 2020
But you saw your score on test day na. Retake if possible before any deadline you may be looking at. Admissions are increasingly competitive so you may want to give it your best shot.

Also, not to be unnecessarily pedantic but the correct grammar is ‘I took/sat for my exams in December.’ I’ve noticed Indians typically use ‘gave’ but that doesn’t make it correct. For example, a sentence may read correctly as: “ the ETS/ a professor/ a teacher/an exam body gives or writes (American context) exams for candidates/students/pupils to take/sit for or write (British/Nigerian context).”

Best of luck with your applications. Hope you achieve your goal(s).
goodguygonebad:
Hello guys

I am just stumbling on this page.

If only I had come to NL before my exams, I perhaps would have done better.

I gave my exams in December, but the scores were really poor - 299.

With the kind of results and comments I am seeing here, I really don't know if this score is okay for a top 100 school (which I already applied in).

Thus, I will like to ask if anyone knows if admission results are strictly based on GRE scores or on other requirements.

Thank you

You clearly have no idea of reality but I’m patient today, riddle me about this unseen Karma.
narit:

Clearly you have know idea how karma works, it goes beyond what the eye sees, that includes the physical realm. Karma is Real. And it is a complex phenomenon.
Romance / Re: I Am Depressed, All My Friends Are Successful Fraudsters... by CptCharlesVane: 10:11am On Dec 25, 2019
Exactly, Karma is another feel-good pill for poor victims. And many religions are based on that. The concept that your oppressor would be punished in the life after is a defense mechanism for the helpless/oppressed.

Someone mentioned Babangida who allegedly killed his best friend who he was best man to, and Dele Giwa, living the life worse still when he dies he will be celebrated, monuments built in his honor, Nigerian history books would honor him and he may even be known to future generations as the ‘good’ guy. Where is karma?

Simpletons will say he will burn in hell but they forget that the criteria for hell in their indoctrination is simply not believing in their fairy tale god. So me and billions of other who haven’t killed anyone would be in the same place with bin Laden and Hitler in Allah/Jehovah’s boiling pot of fire undecided

Where is/was Karma for Hitler? For someone who orchestrated the death of millions to have the luxury to kill himself is no karma. The OP highlighted the puzzle of life where he may, with all his good grades and education, live and die as a poor man in Nigeria while his fraudulent peers go on to achieve greater things. We see these around us in Nigeria but pretend that it is University education that is noble while illiterates, thugs, and drug dealers rule over the majority.

‘The good die young’ was coined from many of these observations that the indeed many ruthless and evil people live longer and more fulfilled lives than their victims and their relatives.
Viking007:
Sometimes I begin to doubt karma exists. I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that karma is just another 'feel good' pill for the poor.

Apt and well written. Your head is there Sir and may your oil never run dry.
Martinez39:
Happy Xmas.

Life is not fair. It's indifferent. Life is strictly cause and effect whether legal or illegal and it does not give a sh!t. As an analogy, imagine a rich man has a working bell at his gate. Consider the two cases:
1) If he invites me to his house and on approaching I press the bell, it will ring.
2) If he didn't invite me and I snuck to his gate without being caught and pressed the bell, the bell will ring and for me to stay safe, I must go away without being caught.

Pressing the bell and it ringing is making money. Pressing the bell with invitation is making money legally. Pressing without invitation is making money illegally. The fact that the bell rings is a rule of many life's cause and effect that's indifferent to whatever your process is legal or not. As long as you press the bell, it must ring. If, in the second case, you are not caught, you will be not different than the person in the first case. grin

Back in school, the illusion sold to many was that if they excelled in school, got to university and graduated with good grades, they would leave the life. Just like Hollywood, romance novels, and songs brainwashing people about love, teachers brainwashed students' naive minds instead of preparing students about the harsh realities of life. Most of the brilliant students are the once most affected because while being brainwashed in this regard, they felt so good about themselves even looking down struggling students only for life to give them smack down. Some of the struggling ones that dropped out to do business are making it big.

Education, especially a certificate, was sold as the end instead of the means to an end. This illusion is still prevalent. I guess this illusion came from the 70's and 80's were people observed that once someone went to school and graduated, they got a job and started earning money. So it registered in their heads go to school —> graduate with a good grade —> get a good job with good salary —> live the life. Even though it's obvious that this is not true, people still think like this only to be frustrated when they can get a job after 5 years of searching. This mentality also produces half-baked graduates because students focus on the certificate instead of quality and expertise, and they would do la crap la pour and pass (even though they don't understand what they read). Also, graduates stop reading and refreshing and developing themselves after school since they already have the certificate which they believe is supposed to open doors for them not knowing that to make money, either you do fraud or you go the legal way by offering, with your expertise or goods (if you're into business) services that people willing to pay for.

Na so life be.

Hello guys, my visa was approved today Dec 19th, 2019 at US Embassy.

School: Western Kentucky University
Graduate Assistantship: $26k
Balance: $3297

Before I delve into questions I was asked. I will like to say every single I was asked where questions I had written down prior and my interview went exactly the way I prayed (I prayed against being asked SOA and I wasn't asked

My interview questions in no particular order

V.O: How are doing
Me: I'm doing great thank you.

V.O: passport and I20 pls
Me: passed it. (At this point I wasn't having cold feet and pretty much calm. Btw he had denied two guys before me

VO: why are you goin to the US
Me: To pursue a masters degree in Chemistry @ Western Kentucky University (WKU)

VO: why WKU
Me: because WKU offers interdisciplinary specialty such as computational chem, materials chem, nanochemistry, Env Chem, Hybrid inorganic-organic polymer. (VO cuts me and said but all school offers dat) Then i said not all schools do; must schools.offer courses in the traditional fields of chemistry namely organic, inorganic, physical and analytic process. * Btw I failed to tell him WKU has an advanced materials institute dat specializes in the analysis and characterization of materials for research purposes* However he was pleased wit my response. I must also mention that when he cut me I didn't fidget rather I used it to drive home my point, I was assertive in a way dat showed I know what I was talking about.

VO: How many schools did u apply? ( Didn't ask me to name them)
Me: 4

VO: do you knw any about Kentucky?
Me: Yes I do. "WKU is in Bowling Green which is the third largest city after Louisville & Lexington. The Gov is Andrew Beshear. Motto of the state is United we stand divided we fall. ( Kentucky is bounded by Ohio River in the North and Appalachian mountains in the East - didn't remember to say dis as he was satisfied wit the aforementioned)

VO checks my i20 and said "oh you were offered GT Assitanship, so whose gonna support you
Me: My dad
VO: what does he do
Me: He is a business man. He owns an oil. & Gas coy and dey are into sales and distribution of Diesel.
He didn't ask me to show my bank statement. The only documents are asked for were my passport and I20.

VO: what are you goin to be doing after graduation
Me: I'll come back to 9ja take a new position as a researcher in our lab.
VO: what does your company do?
Me: we into Engineering and Laboratory research.

VO: I will be issuing your visa @ dis tym
Me: at dis point I couldn't believe my eyes. Beginning of 2019, I didn't know when I was gonna write GRE but I would write. Collected the white paper - I momentarily felt like a star .
Got to the queue to pay the reciprocity fee excused myself to d bathroom and I jst started praising God.

My advice : prepare well. Speak confidently if possible slow in order to pick ur words right and audibly. Above all prayer every single I prayed about turned out.

This is how my interview went y'all.

Till we all make it, we are all a work in progress. Remember a pregnant woman doesn't envy a nursing mother.
Thanks and bye

I strongly disagree. I think you trivialize what is going on concerning workers’ rights in some of these Arab countries by saying there is slavery everywhere. No, real slavery is right around you and you know it. There have been numerous NGOs set up with petitions stacked about this same issue.

The people who haven’t gone home in Europe or America never want to leave in comparison and it is never because of an employer or some employment ‘contract’ with passport seized.

Your agent and employer released your passport back to you but how would another person tell from their country of origin who would release or permanently hold on to theirs?

Anyway, good luck with everything. Hope you are really as free as you make it seem. I’ll continue reading.
Champagnemami:
@kelechi50

There's slavery everywhere.
Best bet is to stay in your home country.

You think its all rosy in Europe and the Americas.

Yeah granted no one holds your passport but you see instances where people live in advanced countries and dare not make a move out of the country, stuck there for even up to 10yrs cos its a requirement for papers

“walk up to your boss and tell him you no do again...” and if he doesn’t return the passport like the case of hundred of videos of Arab bosses out there? Why does it have to be one year? And who decides how long? what if the boss decides it’s 5 years or even 10?

Is your passport with your employer?
Champagnemami:

Your employer takes your passport to prepare your visa. When he's done, he holds on to it cos he has spent money securing your stay, money you have not worked for. To secure his investment, he holds on to your passport so that you wont run after one month. The day you tire, you walk up to him and tell him you no do again, this is usually after a year. He then returns your passport, cancels your visa, and the system gives you 28 days to either renew or leave the country
