I wish to make a correction here:

The first Nigerian female candidate was Mojisola Adekunle-Obasanjo, ex-wife of former president Olusegun Obasanjo. She ran for the 2003 presidential elections, but came in last. She vied again in 2007 where again she was last with 0.01% of the vote.

In the 2011 presidential election, another woman ran for president, Ebiti Ndok Jegede, but only managed to get 0.06% per cent of the vote.

Remi Sonaiya, is the third female presidential candidate a retired professor of French, finished 12th out of 14 candidates in 2015, managing to pull just 13,076 votes, in an election with nearly 70 million listed voters.

Professor Remi Sonaiya: is the first woman in Nigeria to seek to become Nigerias President

is the first woman in Nigeria to seek the highest seat in the land running as the Presidential flag bearer under the Kowa Party at the recently concluded 2015 Nigerian Presidential Elections. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) graduating with the best result in her faculty and also received a PhD in linguistics from Cornell University. She became a professor of French Language and Applied Linguistics in 2001
I disagree on this: the first nigeria female to aspire for the presidential candidate is sarah jibrin under the umbrella of PDP who later became a special adviser to president goodluck jonathan on ethics and values, thank you.

The Shoprite located in Ilorin, Kwara State, had to completely shut its doors after a crowd of people stormed their store for the public holiday today. According to eyewitnesses, when the crowd became too much, they quickly shut their doors to prevent others from coming. However, residents of the state still eager to get in, stayed put at the door awaiting their turn. Lol. See more photos after the cut.

I have been a guest on nairaland for 4 years. This is my first topic here. PLEASE DO NOT READ WITHOUT GIVING YOUR COMMENT, THANKS.

In December 2014, I met this beautiful woman while I was enjoying the xmas and new year festivals with my parents in Ibadan. She is schooling here but lives in Ogun state. I never thought we could go far, so I wanted to chop and clean mouth. I was serving at the time and I told her I was serving at Abuja instead of Kwara state. After my NYSC I told her I have settled down in Abuja instead of Oyo state. I have a well-paid job and live comfortably but everything is in Oyo state and not FCT. I didn’t want her to know I am living nearby because I didn’t see a future with her at the time. She didn’t appear to me as a good girl when we met, I thought she was a runs girl but now I know I was wrong, she is even more innocent than me and she gets all I crave for in a lady. Well, I picked her up by the roadside but I didn’t get to sleep with her but we became friends and she still thinks I served, live and work in FCT. We usually see when there is a festivity or holiday like easter, xmas etc. under the pretext that I came to celebrate with my parents. Anyways, I want to propose to her now. I don’t know how to tell her the truth because we are now in love and I do not want to lose her. PLEASE NAIRALANDERS HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS WITHOUT LOSING HER.
you must tell her the truth anyway, assume you intend travelling to lagos from oyo and u missed the way and found urself in zaria would rather continue the jony or retrack to the right direction?

PoliticsRe: Fayose’s Ogboju Pass Power- Daily Trust by creepsyme(f): 4:44pm On Jun 28, 2016
HungerBAD:
There is a standard tactic employed by people scared of being brought to justice in Nigeria: attain notoriety by mounting a pre-emptive campaign of calumny against the authorities so that when eventually investigators knock on the crook’s door, the suspect can scream persecution! Bias! Political victimisation! When a hardened pickpocket is caught red handed, he doesn’t beg for mercy. He tries to bully/bluff his way through. In Lagos-speak, the trick is called “Ogboju pass power”.

The suspicion that Ayodele Fayose rigged his way to the governorship of Ekiti State is not a new one. Indeed, a series of investigations had been commenced by the various security and anti-graft agencies after the release of audio tape evidence by Capt Sagir who witnessed the grand heist. Now the EFCC, having followed the trail of slush funds deployed to subvert the people’s will, have frozen Fayose’s account in furtherance of their investigation.

Of all the salacious stories that have made the rounds in the public space, the one that struck me was how Fayose’s share of the N4.7 billion were moved. It reads like a Nollywood script.

*“The N1, 219, 490,000 was in two consignments but flown in the same aircraft twice in the morning and in the evening. From FAAN records, the first cash of N724, 500,000 arrived at Akure Airport at an estimated time of 9.38am and the second was at 17.57 hours.

*Obanikoro handed over the funds to Fayose’s associate, Abiodun Agbele (alias Abbey). This Abiodun in company with the bank officials moved the money to Zenith Bank in Akure.

*The N1, 219, 490,000 was not deposited in any account but it was kept in a vault in the bank. It took the bank officials about 10 days to count

*On June 26, 2014, the wanted associate (Abiodun Agbele) paid N137 million into Ayodele Fayose’s account 10003126654 with Zenith Bank through Teller-0556814. Fayose’s BVN on the teller is 22338867502. On August 22, 2014, he paid N50 million into the same account. By the records from the bank, Abiodun paid another N118, 760,000 into Fayose’s account on 27/8/14.*

*Based on the transfers, Fayose moved N300 million to a Fixed Deposit Account No 9013074033 with Zenith Bank ….*
*After that, Abiodun deposited another N100 million from the N1, 219, 490,000 into Spotless Hotel Account run by Fayose and Helen Olayemi Fayose with Account No. 1010170969, Fayose’s BVN is 223338867502 and Helen’s BVN in the account is 22298990256.*
*The governor and Helen are the two directors and signatories of Spotless Hotel account.*
*On June 19, 2014, the same account received N300 million and another N200 million on June 23, 2014. The BVN of the account is 22235692890….” Et cetera.*

Fayose insists that the EFCC has over-reached itself by freezing his account as his position as governor constitutionally guarantees him immunity from prosecution. As usual, lawyers are divided on the issue. Not that they are famous for unanimity on anything anyway. Fayose says his campaign was funded by Zenith Bank. The bank quickly issued a rebuttal.

Rather than deny the cold facts unearthed, Fayose has resorted to the standard “Ogboju” of counter-allegations. His public protestations are like those of a man accused of stealing who, instead of denying, accuses his neighbours of worse crimes and says, “Why not catch my neighbours first?”

Eminent lawyer, Femi Falana endorses the EFCC move and adds that, “If he is indicted, Fayose ought to be prosecuted by the EFCC since the immunity of a governor is put in abeyance when the legitimacy of his election is in dispute”. His analysis makes sense to me because it appears to toe the line of argument of the Supreme Court on the freezing of assets. Delivering the leading judgment of the seven-man panel of the Supreme Court on Friday 10th May, 2002 on whether a governor can be investigated, Justice S.O. Uwaifo, J.S.C (as he then was), held inter alia: “That a person protected under section 308 of the 1999 constitution, going by its provisions, can be investigated by the police for an alleged crime or offence is, in my view, beyond dispute”. I agree with Falana. Fayose’s goose is cooked.

As the Fayose drama was playing itself out, PDP senators fired their own ‘Ogboju pass power’: “We the PDP Senators … deliberated on the state of the Nation and to examine our position on unwarranted threats to the legislative arm of government, particularly to the Senate leadership by the executive arm as well as the on-going intimidation and persecution of the opposition party (PDP) by the ruling party (APC)”. They said they were therefore withdrawing their support for President Buhari. Blackmail, cheap shameless ‘*jankara’* blackmail!

Is Buhari now expected to stop the anti-graft war so as to be in the good books of those over-pampered freeloaders? Anyone who has a case to answer should just go and face the courts. This *‘gra-gra’* will not wash. The campaigns of hate making the rounds will fail. For once, those who have looted our collective patrimony all these years are about to find out that while they may succeed in eluding justice a hundred times, the law has only to be vigilant once to nail them. And since some of them are saying they have dossiers on other people in government, the public expects them to overcome their cowardice and publish those dossiers. Otherwise let them remain silent forever.

Fayose is just a man of many troubles.

Science/TechnologyRe: Ogun River In Kara Did Not Actually Dry Up. This Is What Happened! by creepsyme(f): 6:50am On Jun 21, 2016
azundu1:
I read this thread about Ogun river in Kara drying up suddenly. I was surprise at various speculations people were making about the incident including. See the thread here https://www.nairaland.com/3174249/ogun-river-kara-turn-dry

All of you are very funny! grin
Earth quake ko, drying up nii.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED AT THAT RIVER.

Those green grass you see are plants that grew by the riverbed, they were either uprooted in very large quantity by the river current at various locations and carried by the flowing river. Due to some possible barricade under the bridge, the grasses could not flow across and thus causing the very large pile of the grass.

Due the pressure by the flowing water and the inability of the grass to cross the obstacle under the bridge, the large pile of grass was so tick that people could even walk over it with the water flowing under it.

With time, if the blockage under the bridge was not forcefully pushed by the weight of the accumulated grass or removed by someone, the grass will decay and gradually flow away and the water will become visible again.

So this explains why you have water flowing on one side of the bridge and the other a very pile of grass.

Hope you now understand the mystery behind the dried up water.

Source: Personal experience from similar incidents around canals.
Tnks. its not even a mystery afterall its just a natural phenomenom.

PhonesRe: How Smartphone Makers Are Defrauding Nigerians by creepsyme(f): 7:42am On Jun 10, 2016
TechRez:
A case where phone makers deliberate set out to rip off the wallet of Nigerians with juicy marketing, only to make a U-turn and do what they ought to do in the first instance. What do I mean? Now, I have seen a couple of phone makers make a certain phone with 1GB RAM, and then 3-months later, they release the same phone with 2GB RAM and add appellations like “Plus, Max, Pro” at the end of the original name. These OEM’s have no “trade-in” policy, they deliberately want Nigerians to dump their new phone and purchase the same phone with a re-branded name. Ouch!

For other phone makers, they make the two variant, 1GB RAM and 2GB RAM, release only the 1GB version in Nigeria and send the two 2GB version to Kenya and UAE because those countries have a government – This is fraud!

The United States has a regulatory body called FCC that checks the quality and authenticity of phones coming into their country. Even the highly rated Xaiomi had a tough time entry the U.S market because of the standards the Chinese OEM had to meet.

Over here in Nigeria, the Standard Organization of Nigeria and NCC allows anything into Nigeria, as if our dear country is dumping ground for some of these phones that should be destroyed at the shores of Nigeria.

I earlier decried the so-called Yezz Mobile Jumia wanted to flood into the market, I am glad the brand was dead on arrival. There are other OEM’s who have established their brand in Nigeria, but now take us for granted with their bizarre business policy – This is fraud, it is dumb and delusional.

It’s even more disheartening that some OEM’s create phones without parts and accessories. They don’t want to offer repair services even when they know their stuff is inferior, they want you to keep buying the same sh!t with the money they don’t deserve.

The world is coming to an end! From people selling their flesh for money to others having sex in broad day light. We really need a saviour. A video making the rounds on social media shows this Hot Kenyan couple were caught having sex in a bush after a church service. The two seem to have been on a dry spell and while the preacher was conducting the summon, they were thinking of how they were to quench their thirst.

After church, they made a stealth detour into a nearby bush to partake of each other's forbidden fruit. Unluckily, they were caught by a group of young men as they were bonking in the throes of passion. The angry youths stopped the couple mid-coitus and started questioning them. They were hard pressed to explain why they chose not to book a lodging to quench their thirst. The crowd beat the couple like dogs leaving them with some flesh wounds and other minor injuries. The sad part is that the youths focused too much on the woman and even forced her to put on her customised church headgear with a cross sign while they blasted her with flogging

PhonesRe: SARS officers Arrested Me For having A Social Media (kik) App On My Smartphone by creepsyme(f): 6:41am On May 31, 2016
Samtoby:
Like an hour ago, I was at the back sit of SARS vehicle with handcuffs in my hands. They said am a Yahoo boy for having a kik application on my smartphone.

I was traveling from Omu Aran to ilorin, I pressed up, wearing my blue Jean, T shirt, my newly bought African shaped neck chain and All stars sneakers. So the journey began and we passed the first police check point and few minutes after continuing the journey, we got to SARS people (at a junction in about entering Oke Onigbin town) and we were told to come down (all boys), I first feel scared but also I have nothing to be scared off cause I have the receipt for all my gadget with me, so I keep calm and answer his question perfectly. He check my pocket and found my two phones (Lumia 535 and Infinix Note 2), he check my bags and found my belongings (books, wires and my laptops), he asked if I have the receipt and I answered yes. Then he said I should unlock my phone (Note 2), I did and he start checking then he saw a social media app (KIK) on my phone, he asked if am a "game boy" and I said yes, all my mind was he is asking about video games because I have up to 20 games on my phone. He check other guys then told me to follow him, I did and he said "it's good that I don't lie", he asked my school and my name and I told him. Then from no where he said am a "Yahoo boy", the soul in me seems to left my body that moment, I realise am in big soup and I start swearing on everything that comes to my mouth. I deny his allegations then he start frowning and threat to destroy my career in school and that I will go to jail if I didn't confess, so I decided to come down to his level and ask how much to settle him, he said 20k, I started begging but he's desperate and then he called his boss, an old man, to my surprise he also lay the same allegations and all I can do is start begging and swearing am not a Yahoo boy.

After begging and rejecting their allegations, I was told to sit behind their vehicle, I did and they close the door on me while one of them keep saying they should handcuff me, I keep rejecting their allegations and then the guy earlier attempted to slap me right in the vehicle I sat in, he then decided to handcuff me from then. They start claiming they will destroy my life, that I agreed to been a Yahoo boy and then I started denying it again. I decided to keep shut and wait till my dad comes since we are not too far from home and I have signal to my brother (we both traveling together) to call my dad which he did, I waited and didn't talk to them anymore. Every cars passing were all looking at me right behind the vehicle, I felt embarrassed.

My dad came and they attended to him, they tell him what they said I am (yahoo boy) and that I have admit it, he knowing fully well who I am, told them that I am not and he knows fully what I do online. He told them that I am an importer and also work online as a freelance graphic designer. They said the app is for Yahoo boys and not app to import goods. I can't help but burst into tears because am presently embarrassing my dad along with me.

The boss then show my dad an app on his phone but my dad doesn't know anything about this stuff, the boss told me to explain what happened in front of my dad, I did and he ask why I have those apps on my phone, I explain am an importer and also an online person but he left and asked the first guy to attend to us. So my dad asked what the solution is since he knows they all want money, I didn't hear what goes next but he later gave them 2k after demanding for 5k, they removed the handcuff, gave my phone back to me and we left.

I have never experienced anything like this in my entire 20 years on earth, I only hear it but it happened to me today. It makes it my first time in their car or police car and first time of been in handcuff (which breaks my heart).

This is purely violation of human right and I regret that I have no evidence to follow this up. But never can I forget their faces on this earth.

***The app (Kik) is a social media app which I used to chat with a friend in Los Angeles, not a very common app in Nigeria but one of the most used app in USA making it the only social app to connect with her.

If this is what Nigeria has become (became), then it's a sad story.

Don't know if this is the right section, mods plz help forward to Front Page.
soorry abt dat, but pls stop dressing like a yahoo boy. ppple address u d way u r dressed.
