northbird: What icon do you look for when checking for one way. quote author=stanuplane post=82192944] yes. believe me, google knows all the one ways. You just have to be careful and follow the map righteously. Like I said earlier, my map had a GPS issue, that's why it malfunctioned. All I can say is that google map try die. Like you rightly pointed out, if you follow the map it will take you to your destination without hassle. The only fear I have with the thing most times is that it can take you through some terrible road. Downloaded another one which more like updated the previous one I had that shows directions for inter state |

stanuplane: I encountered them on that yaba axis last week Friday. My map lost GPS signal, started misbehaving and I ended up on a one way road. They intercepted me immediately and opened my car door before I had chance to lock it. The guy was talking to me like an angel. He asked if I ve being warned before for taking this one way and I told him no. He said then I don't have anything to be afraid of. I will just have to drive to their office with one of them to check if my no is in there system. If they don't find my no there, then I can go and I happily agreed. My riders( an old man and woman with their teenage daughter in front) begged them from now till eternity to let us go cos they are already very late for their engagement but they might as well be singing, so I agreed and drove off to their office like a good citizen to prove that my no is not in their system, but then an angel in the form of one guy around there who saw the whole thing happen frantically called my attention as i was about to drive off and told me in my native tongue(Igbo). He said "nwokem, isoro ndia ruo office ha, nwanne ha 'rie gi". Meaning "guy if you follow this ppl reach there office them go chop you die" immediately I heard that a tiny gunshot went off inside my head and my brain had to rest to Lagos Factory Settings. This story get part 2. How did it end? |

confusedworld17: Are there drivers who feel inferior if a rider sat at the back seat? Picked up this girl and she was trying to explain to me that she needed to sit at the back in order to change her dress, needs space to arrange her stuffs... Had to interrupt and jokingly told her that the fare remains the same no matter where a rider sits and as a matter of fact, I prefer make dem sidon for back so that everyone go answer him or her papa name. I think for most people it is a conscious act, though a bit awkward. In case of a crash, and as a last minute decision to stop the car, which side do you think the driver will ram into an obstacle, his side or the passenger side? |

So sorry for your day... It's part of those challenges
Next time don't accept any request that will take after Festac. Festac is a good place for request.. But after Alakija is a no no
Mazamaza - No Old Ojo road - No Satellite Town - NO times 2
With time, maybe you will know shortcuts to those areas. But avoid them because of bad roads and tankers/trailers Grew up in these areas. Lived in agboju for a while, then mazamaza. Would sometimes go to badagry to buy clothes and shoes. Back then the roads where good, you could travel the entire stretch of road from mile2 to badagry in less than an 1hr30mins but now that area is a no no. Iyanaba leading to volks is treacherous... Travel at your own risk. |

Dovehorizon: Bruv, this is a very simple thing and let's not make it look herculean. If you find yourself in a new environment, what are u supposed to do? You are expected to ask questions, know where to park and where not to, know where u are meant to position yourself at certain hours, like I said it isn't rocket science... Yeah, like there is a handbook somewhere that lists all the bad roads in Lagos. Anyways, I really don't think this ish is really worth us arguing about, if it works for him, who am I to say otherwise. |

franksam2009: 5w-30 is designed for winter(weather below -1°c) , in winter time Texas go below -20°c(snow) which will freeze most engine oil, stress engine and cause poor emissions, while here in Lagos the lower hv seen is 20°c, even 50w-70 will flow freely at 20°c ( the lower it gets the chiller it becomes nd when it gets to -0°c it starts to snow) The 5w means at freezing point it will get to all engine parts in 5seconds, while the 20w will take 20seconds, but we dont hv such freezing weather here in Nigeria so they all flow fast anytime. So i think 5w should not be used on a taxi/Uber car cause the car is always on a motion and hardly sits for long The only problem with 20w is that if not changed on time it will cause slug buildup, but for the 5w if it's to be used it Should be an original synthetic(mobile,Castro e.t.c), Next is oil shortage, this is cause by either bad piston rings(delay in oil change or overheated) or worn out seals(which will eventually occur on all engine as they age), this doesn't necessary mean d engine is dead, as long as it's not smoking, oil stop leak can solve this problem (it swells all seals bck to normal shape).
Den oil filter issue, oil filters are not transparent so even the manufacturers cannot tell what's going on in there, those 10-15k oil filters are marketing strategies, they never last that long, most oil filters hv this inbuilt bypass technology built in them that once they gets clogged up, d oil bypasses and flow directly into d engine which might eventually cause premature wear to the metal bearings, Even the almighty shining Fram filter was cut open and compared to other high quality filters on YouTube , Fram was so bad that its paper breaks when touched lol. Do ur research be4 u argue bro, most of the cars made in Asia and south America do not hv this 5w written on them, some Don't even write anything on their oil covers, hv seen an Asian made BMW with 10w-30 written on its oil cap. I thought the numbers in front of the w's actually stands for the viscosity of the oil when the engine is cold or hot? Never knew it is the time the oil takes to move round the engine. Will re-read again. |

eherbal: I may sound As if I'm contradicting myself, but if you wanna buy a car for ehailing as the situation stands now,pls buy a dru23 bullet proof engine for quick ROI,but car is certain to diminish quickly considering the state of the roads and poor pricing by principal companies. the trick is to drive the car yourself,as giving it out on rentals comes with a lot of sifia pains Where are the figures to back this up? dru23: Yes I get what jesuson2020 is saying ...but keep in mind not all partners are the same... yes it is true that maintenance can eat up your profit.... But a lot of partners are not hands on their business, most will let the drivers handle the servicing of their cars , I will never allow that ...I do bring in parts for my cars, which a lot of partners can't do , I do have trusty mechanics ,and more importantly I screen my drivers and I try to be fair to them. And also the type of cars matter .. I use civics which are cheaper for me to get.. The civics are very strong and the maintenance on it is very cheap... Unfortunately I hate to admit the civics 2003 to 2005 are stronger than the Elantra ...I am not saying that Elantra is not a strong car or not suitable for uber ..but on the business side of things the Civics pays me more when compare to Elantras and the Corolla... For years have been shouting and preaching to owners to do the basics maintenance on theirs especially using good engine oil ...but some will hear and do and others will say am trying to sell market .. Than at the end people will wonder how I was able to run my business successfully .... The conclusion here is that the points I listed as help me to maximize profits.. Yes at times repairs will eat most of your profit... but if u get a good mechanic and good parts it will reduce the eating of your profit...
To go back to Jesusson2020 point.. When I had my old no good for nothing bleaching manager.. The profits I was making in one week. The manager will come back and collect it .. He will tell car spoil etc and funny enough it seems that we keep fixing the same issue that he collected money from. The money given to change oil ,he will not do it or better yet he will 5k naira oil .. I had to sell 4 out of 5 elantra because of him ..he basically ruined the engine .. This is how I got into the engine oil business. But at the end of the day am still here.. After changing mechanics and manager my outlook on the business has been very encouraging... Thanks, dru. Knew you won't let me down. |

Tyche: The boy knows what he's saying. When he was saying that Uber is heaven sent, he was just referring to drivers and not the patners.
The 5k he will take daily is safely saved, the 25/15 % or whatever percentage the company takes will be ploughed back for servicing and major repairs sooner or later. That's why he said the owners are just rotating money and think they are making profit Waiting for dru to reply this. Do you know he's still shipping in civics? But then the question is: will same repairs not be done on the keke? |
