Please I am about to invest into this Uber business (cos I heard its a good business ). However I have questions plaguing my mind and would love to get answers.
Can I get a uber approved car with tracker on a budget of 1.5M? Also, how easy will it be to find a trustworthy driver? Also, whats the WORST amount that can be delivered on a bad business day? Please, I need pointers and advice.
Thanks a lot. Bros just ditch tracker and get yourself a comprehensive insurance. Thank me later. |

Car Talk › Re: My Experience "Ringing" An Engine by Crvrider: 7:06pm On Oct 04, 2019 |
temmym4: I have decided to share this with everyone just to help someone out there who might be in the shoe i was once in.
As a lover of Manual Tranny, i missed and wanted to keep one at home to drive so i eventually got a fairly used Nissan Primera p11 (1998) quite clean and ok, but one issue, Revving the engine brings out smoke from the exhaust, not a serious smoke actually but if u are the type that know your onions, it is clearly an indication that Valves and/or Rings and starting to worn out and allowing oil into them little by little.
*Please note that i knew about this before i agree with the deal and the price the vehicle was given out was ok for me to replace the engine if i wish to.
I guess this happened due to the Negligence of the former owner and the type of engine oil he uses.
The thing is, u cant find out yourself except if someone rev the vehicle for you while u watch from the rear.
Some other days, the vehicle brings out smokes for few seconds after parking overnight.
Apart from the smoking part, i took time to check underneath the engine bottom plate or oil pan (not a mechanic so i actually don't know what that is called) and found oil at the bottom, which actually indicates there is a leak. And d way thing look dow there, i can see that the pan hit a hard stuff and i guess there is a little crack
Now there are 3 things involved, 1. My engine oil is leaking from the bottom due to a crack oil pan 2. It sometimes brings out blue smoke after parking a long time, for instance, overnight.. then stops, i.e valve seals are bad. 3. Revving a bit higher brings out blue smokes too, visible only to people behind u.. i.e my Piston rings are beginning to go bad already.
Although the car moves well and the engine still very active, i know i v got to get solution to those stuffs before it kills the engine and probably smoking all day on with no compression later on.
Did i tell u i had to top 1L of oil every 2 weeks since it's shortening and after a long journey?
I decided to visit a trusted mechanic and i explained things to him.
On the issue of engine, i had an option of either buying another one which costs about 130k or rebuild my existing one with new valve seals and rings which costs around 30k.
I have heard a lot of sad stories concerning ringing so i opted that one out. Some even said it doesn't last more than 6 months. He smiled and explained some things to me.
"A successful Ringing involves an experience mechanic and also using genuine parts, " and that "some of the engines which is even sold to people as tokunbo are the refurbished ones, worked on with new rings by us here and resold as tokunbo"
I wasn't really convinced at first but after some months i made a calculation..
*A new Tokunbo engine costs around 130k (I wasn't ready to spend that on something am not even sure of the quality)
*My mechanic will rebuild my old engine for 30k
*I buy 1Litre oil for top-up every 2weeks at 2k, thats 4k for a month, apart from the regular service i do every 2 months with an oil of 4k.
So for a total of 6 months, l will use about 10Litres (10 cans of 1L) topping oil and 8Litres (2 cans of 4L) for regular servicing which makes a total of N28,000 just for the oil aside workmanship.
Now, why not put this money together and try out the engine ringing, use it for the same 6months. It's iron cast built engine anyway so it shouldn't be very hard for a successful rebuilding afterall, according to what i got online.
Besides, the money is not even up to what some people will give to a lady or buy drinks at a go. Even some people spend more than that to service their cars just one month.
Job started, oil pan was replaced.. New rings and valve seals done. The whole job took 3 days.
Before i went to pick it up, i read about what and what not to do after ringing an engine so i got that covered
Throughout my journey home, i wasn't convenient driving the car as i was busy listening to any sign of somethin breaking in the engine . .. Infact i go drive small and open the bonnet to check if water has mixed with the engine oil, or maybe coolant is now inside the gear oil
There was even a point where i could smell oil burning when the engine was warm after driving some minutes, i pulled over to see if oil has splashed all over the road
I have never paid attention to all my dashboard gauges like that single moment of driving away from mechanic workshop after the ring was done.
After that day, i began a countdown when that 6 months will come. More like someone who is waiting for a death sentence. Damn, some people can give u fear and discouragement ehn
To cut the long story short. 6 months has come and gone, car is used everyday and travels long journeys too, smoke no gree come o, instead na water vapor dey come out of it's exhaust every morning.. Especially steaming during cold mornings
Not a single drop of oil again either underneath or on oil stick.
The only thing i do now is change the oil and filter every 3 months or 3000KM whichever comes first. Nothin more.
Imagine still letting myself suffer till now and wasting money just because some Kazeems did a bad job for someone else, either an inexperienced one or he purposely bought knock off piston rings.
Also the first 1000KM after ringing matters too. I had to follow instructions online on how to break-in vehicle with new rings properly, i don't just depend on my mechanic advice only.
And yes, a "Kazeem" did the job for me,
My advice.
*Never let anyone push you, listen to advises, make use of the one that favours you, don't just just follow others' footsteps.
*Not everyone has got a lost of cash in the bank and can afford to buy a Tokunbo engine.
*Just because Mr A's job wasn't done successfully doesn't quite mean yours will follow the same pattern
*Don't be too stingy with your mechanic, you will be at the receiving end since they ll keep cheating you and buying you knock off parts, don't act too wise. Especially when rebuilding engine
*Get a competent mechanic with a fear of God who ll tell you the truth, it will help you and your car a lot
*I think Iron cast built engines are better rebuilt compared to the Aluminium ones. Infact i wont advice anyone with aluminium engine to rebuild, my own opinion.
*Personally, i feel getting competent mechanics that specializes on commercial vehicle will do a better job rebuilding an engine. My own opinion and from experience though.
My own story though. I hope it helps someone out there. Please share your experience too if you ever had an engine rebuilt, maybe someone out there can learn from the perfection and mistakes as well.
***UPDATE** It's almost 2 years already. Car doesnt smoke, everything is still in perfect condition. Just servicing as at when due will keep your vehicle healthy and it will serve you for long. What oil brand do you use for servicing; synthetic, synthetic blend, or just plain conventional? |

teeebest: Evening Elders, I got an 03 Camry that was bought as toks last year's August. The engine vibrates if I am in traffic or stopped at the red light. If the gear is in parked or neutral, the vibration stops. It is more noticeable if the AC is on. I told two different mechanics about the issue, they both told me to change the front engine mount. I did that today but the problem persists.
What do you think is causing this vigorous engine vibration please? Service throttle body and the air idle control valve. And if need be, change the gear mount. |

Independiente - Lanus 2:2 good luck to those that played. All we needed was Lanus to score just a goal, but they scored twice.
Like every other game, all you need is a strategy. Look for one that works for you and stick to it. Refine it to a point that it reduces your loses to the barest minimum.
I have been punting for a while now to know that straight winnings on favourite teams is a fallacy (though I play it occasionally), I have seen countless times where weak teams beat big teams silly with the big teams having miserable odds. So my strategy now is just to play over0.5.
Gambling addiction is real that is why my advice has always been, play with your beer money, and if you don't drink beer, use your olosho money, and if you don't do olosho, then use your cigarette money. But if you don't do any of these, use money you know if you borrow someone, and they don't return, it won't hurt you.
Apologies for derailing. |

Rubbiish: Those talking good about sport betting are those yet to stake with tangible amount of money, if u have stake with above 100k before & lost, u will know betting is evil. You will continue losing with d hope of u re going to recover one day. Till u are down. Betting and forex are just like blackmailers, they can reduce u to nothing. Whenever u stake on the game, the heartache that comes with it till d game ends is more than enough reason to quit punting. The day u play over 0.5, match will end 0, the day u play under 0.5, match will end 3-4, there is no perfect strategy. I am yet to see any family man taking care of his family with betting? Betting is nothing but false hope This is what I meant by staking what you can afford to loose. On any giving weekend you could do a couple of bottles gambling with your liver, or instead you could decide to throw that cash in. Day 1: 1000 * 2odds = 2000 Day 2: 2000 * 2odds = 4000 Day 3: 4000 * 2odds = 8000 Day 4: 8000 * 2odds = 16000 Day 5: 16000 * 2odds = 32000 Day 6: 32000 * 2odds = 64000 Day 7: 64000 * 2odds = 128000 The highest I have gone is 6 straight days without a lose. Please don't do this with your school fees or that of your children; your rent or your savings. But if you do it with your beer money, at least you have given your liver a chance. If you run the above system with 1h that will be 12k8h in 7days. Like someone said, just have fun while you are at it,1h won't hurt you if you loose. However the problem with a lot of guys is greed. Lanus to do over0.5 @1.60 |

ifyeez: I have my share of experience with that 2-3 odds daily, at first it was profitable, I turned 500k to 1.5mil in less than 2 months, I was balling and everything was stew for me, suddenly everything changed, after calculating my loses, I was losing over 6.5mil. How did it happen you will ask, I was making so much money so I kept on increasing my stakes for the 2 odds, I started with 20k stake, before you know it I was staking 200k-500k, I was losing So much money so I kept on increasing the stake to recover the loses in one game. I started with staking on sure teams either win or draw, live matchs, from the stats of what there playing, I will pick the teams that is playing beta to either win or draw, it was going well, until it wasn't, I changed to over 0.5 half time, usually the odds are always at 2.0, so I stake large, 50k-200k, depending on how the spirit leads, it was going well, until it wasn't, if I stake over 0.5, dey will play under, if I stake under dey will play over, it almost drove me crazy, b4 you know it, I was borrowing money and even sold one of my uber car, before I realized what was happening, I was way in too deep and in depts and addicted, am still trying to fight my addiction, thats why when I saw that advise, that guy gave, it provoked me, so i decided to speak out, so it won't happen to another person. My advice to anybody that wants to try it, please I beg you with the name of God, hold and save your one one naira you're making, I which I never got involved.
Sorry for going off topic. This will be the last I will comment on this matter so that we can let the peace of this thread to reign. Rule 101 of punting: never bet with money you can't afford to loose. At this your level this is addiction not business. |

muyiwaadekunle1: Brothers in the house, who can recommend a good AC technician that knows his onions? I want to call out the bluffs of two AC technicians at Maryland who said i need to get a new evaporator on a Tokunbo car that came in July and hasn't passed the road test. I changed the compressor before coming to Lagos last week and everything seemed fine until Wednesday when it started blowing hot, my friend took me to an AC technician on my street and the mofo said its the evaporator straight away without any diagnosis. I rebuked him immediately after consulting with the dealer that brought the car and the technician that changed the compressor, and he said i should pay to fill in a new gas which I did and that didn't last up to 1 hour, the passenger insulted me too much on that Wednesday, so i called him back to complain and he said its the evaporator leaking, yet no burning smell or any sorts from the AC vents. The most scary thing is when he said they will disassemble my car dashboard, gear box, steering to fit a new evaporator. That one weak me I have sent a message to Aunty raduautoworks about the situation and i observed another thing, ever since we serviced the car, the check engine light has been on, what could be the cause? I asked the local mechanic that serviced it at ijebu and he told me the check engine light has to be on at all time, if not the car won't work well. A friend who has been driving for long also shared the same view but i am confused . Car is an old fashioned Ford Mondeo 2001, purchased in July with 183k miles on it.
