maclatunji: ^Bye! Get better not bitter, ok. I mean that sincerely.

I will be taking a break soon too.
The harder I try to stay mad
I rememeber, "hey, thats my man"!
I will like to take you on a journey
Some place only your ex, god and I know
Buckle up, cos once I become a habitant in your heart
You would never wanna let me go! kiss kiss

maclatunji: Indeed and I have forgiven you #Hehehe. You know within your hearts of hearts that I am right but pride has inhibited you from acknowledging it. Never take people for granted and know that it is not everybody that criticises you that hates you and vice versa.

Laughing at your sense of indignation over the matter.
Maybe you need to stop advising and seek help yourself. I am out

maclatunji: For Cuddlemii

Cuddlemii is really angry at me
Sorry I was harsh
I didn't mean to be mean
Now I hope you see what I mean
I was just being me
To make you see things as they be
Save your breath
The harm has been done
Shall we move on

Freiburger: @ cudlemii did you received my mail?
No, I did not.

Tgirl4real: I will suggest a separate thread for the debate proper. This is already getting too long. If not, only the judges and debaters will show up. cheesy
Obviously! This thread was just for planning & preparations.

coogar: so many ways to circumvent that....but i guess it won't be needed anyways.
the debaters are attacking the issues not the person! i can work with that but
i still don't grasp what we are actually debating.

@ cuddlez,

how many words are we working with? 10,000 or 20,000? is this going to be a team thingy or one versus one ish. you need to be clear and concise about the rules, biko.
is there a prize at stake? money? a nice chic? return ticket to seychelles?
We are using word count(Oam4j would announce that soon).

What do you want for a price? Name it and its all urs!
We are funded by international parastatals that are bored sponsoring al qaeda.
We have a special escort service that doesn't believe in the "closed" sign...... "open forever" mehn! cheesy

davidylan: The list is too long already... 7 more people? How many arguments are we going to read before we get tired? grin

As long as you are adding more people... pls add Jarus. Another politically savvy dude.
Ha ha! You are so good with recommendations. Won't you refer yourself for a change?
Don't you have the capability to handle a debate?
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - You Are Cordially Invited! by Cuddlemii(op): 4:06pm On Jul 19, 2012
Sagamite: I have my broom!

ACN forever! grin grin grin grin

The 6th rule has to be explicitly there. I am not wasting my time on "I no go carry last in public" debaters while I have a rule 4 holding me back.

If your argument is killed, you can't defend it or is shown not to be rock solid, just shut it and move on.
Bros, which are one u dey do? Are u for or against?

RULES

1. All Nairaland Forum rules should be strictly adhered to. Extreme profanity or constant use of mild profanity is strictly prohibited. Debaters MUST NOT incite any form of criminal offence. This includes but is not limited to, threat of violence and incitement to RELIGIOUS and TRIBALISTIC hatred.

2. No personal attacks on other members would be permitted; debaters SHOULD NOT resort to personal abuse or harassment only comments relating to the subject being debated will be tolerated. Do not attack your fellow debaters! Specifically, members SHOULD address the argument and not the poster. Do not let them bait you into a rule breaking reply, if you feel you have been personally attacked call the attention of the Moderator to it so that it can be treated accordingly.

3. Do not assume that opposing teams are personally attacking you. Tone is difficult to interpret online especially in a debate setting.

4. No harsh wording.
a. Words like "idiotic", "moronic", "stupid", “cretin”, “dimwit” etc are not welcome here. You can debate without being inflammatory.
b. *NOTE: The words in quotations are an example only and not to be taken literally.

5. Word limits should be strictly adhered to.

Lastly, this is not another avenue to vent; we intend to rationally discuss topics of interest. If you feel yourself getting upset by a comment...take a step back and let other members of take over. Passion is great but don't let it get out of hand.

debosky: I don't see how you can have a good debate with so many participants at the same time - are you planning to ask a question and get all the debaters to respond one after the other?

I'd like to participate but would like to better understand what is proposed and what the ground rules are - e.g. are you allowed to use words like cretin and mooron? cheesy cheesy

How long are the posts allowed to be? It would be good to set a limit, else the more verbose debaters will write mind boggling epistles that no one will be bothered to read. Is quoting permitted on rebuttal?

Sorry for the jumbled up response and for repeating issues others may have already mentioned.
Thank you for responding.
The most important thing is the rules of engagement! That would be communicated today!
We are working around it to perfect it before representing it on here, bear with us.

THREAD RE-OPENED!!!!

You would be updated with the modalities today.
I am waiting on the project manager, Chrisbenogor and Judge, Oam4j to endorse and put finishing touches to it.

Check out the list of Judges on the first post. The topic of discussion has been re-written for clarity as well.

Thanks!

KEY TERMS OF A DEBATE

Resolution: the main argument – always stated in the positive

Affirmative: argues the resolution – tries to prove it correct

Negative: argues against the resolution – tries to prove it incorrect

Constructive Phase: each side will have 2 chances to construct their arguments

Cross-examination: each side will have a chance to question the other side after each constructive argument has been made

Rebuttal Phase: each side will have 2 chances to rebut the statements made by the other side and clear up any confusion surrounding their own arguments
